Al Hi everyone, before we get started we wanted to let you know that we recorded most of our Luke Cage rewinds before the resurgence in black lives matter protests after the killings of George Floyd and countless others. As you probably know the Luke Cage Series goes deep into the kinds of racism faced by black people every day. Al As hosts who are not black, we have not covered as well as we should have, but we are trying to get better. Tony We stand in solidarity with the black lives movement so our non discussion of the issue in these episodes comes from recording before the tragedies and not ignoring the issues. Al But the Marvel Cinematic we want podcasts, rewatches reviews and response to every movie show an one shot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm al Rodriguez. Tony And I'm Tony Camarena. Al And before we get into things we want to. Al Beg you beg follow us on Twitter. We are at MC_rewind and if you can give us a rating on Apple podcasts or your favorite podcast app that would be awesome. And plus you could tell your friends about our show. Please tell them good things. Anyway today we're talking about season one episode 11. Al Of Luke Cage, now your mind, which originally premiered on Netflix on September 30th of 2016. Tony And as always, here's a rundown that I wrote two days ago and didn't bother to re read. So let's see how this goes. Tony Luke cage escapes from the kitchen with Misty while striker takes Claire. Candace and the remaining civilians hostage. The police around the club, Luke and Misty, escaped to the basement using a secret entrance in the kitchen before strikers Menken Storman. He tells her everything that he's been hiding from her player, finds out the truth. Tony About Mariah killing Cornell Cornell from Kansas, Kansas. So Macy's as well as well as the location of the secret spot in front of the kitchen, Claire escapes and joins the Luke and tends to Missy's wound. Tony Striker talks about being the spurned ******* son of a preacher threatens to kill the hostages unless a Luca meets with him. Shades finds the entrance incumbrance Misty unclear who managed to overpower him. Strecker kills the Councilman boom and uses canvas to as cover to escape as Luke arrives. Tony Unfreeze the other hostages. A SWAT team storms in and forces Luke to surrender using the juice boards provided by Mariah Blue. Kitten Shades are arrested while striker escapes. Tony Yeah, dramatic. Tony Alright, going in to our fast facts. I left. Tony All my left got. Speaker 3 Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast. I would catch it. You didn't see that coming. Tony Out what fast facts do you have for this? Al You know I don't have any. Nothing popped out at me to even research and try to look for something. Tony OK. Tony I I got you as always, the um. Tony The episode's title comes from a gangster song from the album, hard to earn. Tony Let's see I didn't write down how I found it connected to this. Well is now your mind, so I assume that striker thinks Luke is his or the Councilwoman. The council man misses. Or just everything in Harlem is his. So now your mind connects that way, I assume. Al Yeah, that makes sense. Diamondback just kind of wants everything to himself, OK? Tony Yeah, um we also, Luke says Harlem's paradise, belong to Lucky Luciano when he explains why there was a stairway going under the basement. That guy was a real guy. Apparently he was a crime boss and the bootlegger in Harlem in the 20s through the 40s. Tony Oh nice, someone did some real research awesome yeah and and connected to the godfather that I've been talking about the whole season. Tony In the Lou Lucky Luciano. Tony Worked with the military in World War Two, so when they arrested him after World War Two for bootlegging and doing all his mob stuff instead of arresting him, they deported him to Italy and in the first godfather, when Michael kills a cop, he goes to Italy to go hiding so. Tony Another godfather rethink. Al Oh yeah, I thought you were going to say that this real person actually. Al Like was in the godfather, or referenced in that movie. But alright, not not at all. Still cool. Alright, yeah. Tony And then my last one is they actually call Clara the night nurse in this when actually looking up at the clear in the comics, she actually wasn't the night nurse at all. She was just a doctor friend of Luke Cage is. Tony The night nurse was three other people, Lynda Carter, Lynda Carter, not the one who played Wonder Woman in the 70s. George Jenkins and Christine Palmer, who is actually a doctor in Doctor Strange movie. So while they demoted Claire to become a nurse, the elevated Christine Palmer to become a doctor and completely unfair. I don't know why it's unfair. Al I mean they they could have just promoted both. I mean it's yeah or promoted one and left the other one the same. But yeah. Tony Yeah, both, now she's Night Doctor an then Christine Palmer, Hospital owner, was above doctor. Tony Well, no, you said she was upgraded from nurse to doctor so that that Yeah, but yeah, but you said promote both. I'm like then you have to bring about. Christine Christine. Tony We are Claire, Claire, Claire Yeah. Al Yeah, well, I mean super doctor, right? That's the next level. Tony Superstor doctor, well, I mean, isn't that what Doctor Strange is? Tony Damn Bruce Banner. And then he started talking about superhero Super Doctor. Al You go Super Doctor Supreme, there you go. Tony Doctor doom Tony Not a Doctor Who we learned. That's one thing I've ever remember from this podcast. Is Doctor Doom is an actual doctor. Al What a fraud never would have thought that from him. Tony I know he seems like a such a upstanding gentleman. Yeah, exactly. Tony Alright, any other fast facts? Nope, that was as fast as I could affect them. Al Alright, so I guess we'll move on and talk about the heroes. Maybe it's enough, but the world thinks I'm a hero. I saw you. Speaker 4 You're a hero like a for real superhero, which is. I'm not like a Groupie, Stalker type. Speaker 3 I'm Luke Cage. You can't burn me, you can't blast me. Speaker 5 And you definitely can't break me. I am Harlem and Harlem is me. Al Where do you want to start? Start with Luke. Tony Sure. Tony Um, let's see. Tony Uh. Tony So I guess This is why it's really good to be friends. Real close friends with the hero 'cause all those people are in danger getting shot, but Luke only cares about Misty protecting her, I mean. Al Yeah, in in a sense, but I mean they're kind of in a holding pattern, right? Like Luke knows that the hostages are leveraged an they're not going to be killed unless they're going to be used for something for that leverage right? To get Luke out ofe hiding, which is exactly what striker does at the end. Al Um, or they're also being used to stop the SWAT team from going in and and stuff, right? So while they're unsafe from, you know, just their general surroundings with situation there. Al There it's not like horrible. It's not like they're about to be killed. Al Oh, OK, but Al You're right, the. Al I'm sure if he you know if Luke and Misty weren't like acquaintances in some way. Al He wouldn't have cared as much about about saving her life and not like he would just ignore her, but like he wouldn't be more invested personally. Tony Yeah, so we really should be in the hold up with Claire 'cause no one seems to care about Claire. Al Yeah exactly yeah. Tony Um, let's see. So they talk about in the subset that Luke was in the Marines for the first time, and I can't remember, but I don't think they ever mentioned it again that he was in the Marines after this episode. Al Yeah, I think that too because I don't remember that at all. Al I I remember what his job was before he went to prison. I did not remember him being in the Marines. Tony Yeah, I mean um when he's like he learned how to do it in, uh, what is it called force Recon which is short for for marine force reconnaissance as like well I feel like me myself could also do turnock it without being in the Marines. Then Claire gets on him for putting the tourniquet too low. Tony So like maybe not 'cause I thought, looked at a really good job, so I guess. Al I mean, I have no idea how easy or hard it is to make one, but he probably made one really well, but placing it in the right spot, yeah, OK, yeah, I I just thought you just had to. You know what Luke did and just tie off the wound so no blood flows to it. But not that close to the wound apparently. Tony I don't know. Although Claire is not a real doctor or a nurse, she's an actress, so that might be wrong too. I have no idea. Al That's true, yeah, we we can never tell. I mean, This is why you probably shouldn't be taking your all of your medical advice from a TV show. Tony Um, well, that's what I got and that's why we continue to do so. Tony Alright, don't put your life in my hands. Al Alright, well, I mean which TV shows? Do you get your your info from from like is it scrubs or house? Tony Oh well, must be scrubs 'cause I've never watched an episode house, OK? Tony Alright, well actually all all my knowledge comes from Claire and Doctor Strange. That's it. Al I don't think he got a lot of info out of Doctor Strange. Tony Um, yeah, like if you use a defibrillator, you get extra powers to fight your ghostly enemies. That's why I looked in Doctor Strange. Oh, I totally forgot about that. You're right. Tony Yeah, it's not too long until we're covering that one well. Tony For you and Maine. Tony For the listener, is it still gonna be like another month and a half? Al Yeah, a little bit of time, but yeah, yeah. Al OK. Tony Well, see after Luke. Al So actually so rewinding just a little bit. So when Luke gets Misty to the kitchen and they're kind of, you know, held up in there a little bit before they go through the door into that cool secret room. Al He, uh, he tells Misty that they can't call for backup, 'cause she's saying, hey, we we need to go out the back door or whatever, call for backup that kind of stuff and so. But Luke says, oh, we, we can't do that because striker and team have already secured the back exit. Luke says it's what he would do right like he himself would would do, why? Al Is this? I mean, I guess maybe oh I, I can't imagine that that was a normal part of his training for force Recon of the brakes. I don't know if he had it. Tony No, but he was also a cop. Al That's true OK. Tony Yeah, I mean he he is trained in this though we don't. Tony I feel like we don't get his. Tony History as a cop as a real part of his personality. I feel it's just like back story but it doesn't come into play very often. Yeah, that's true, but also Misty's a cop. Wouldn't she know that that's something that would be done an also striker. Al I don't remember if Stryker was in the military, but he definitely not a copy. Tony He talked about this. He went to Juvie while Yeah, Luke went to the Marines to get out of the jail. Al That's right, OK, yeah. So I. Al Mainly what I'm going with is I don't understand why Luke had that line of like, yeah, it's what I would do because why I don't? I don't. I don't see the the parallel there between him and in striker is it? Is it because they're half brothers? That's it. They have the same ideas. Tony Yep, is all about genetics. You know you get your tactical genetics from your father's side. Al Oh OK, yeah. Al You also get the the hair loss gene from your Mother's side I learned recently. Tony Not only hair loss like all of your hair genes, 'cause I'm going Gray very early in my early 30s. My mom apparently was like all white hair. By she time she was twenty, she just died it since then. Al Oh OK, yeah yeah. Oh God, I've had Gray hair since high school and it's just it's just more and more, especially 'cause right now. I haven't had a haircut in like 3 months. 'cause of quarantine stuff. And yeah, it's a lot more noticeable. Tony Yeah, I've patches of Gray in my head, but now I'm growing out Beard 'cause The Quarantine. I had a lot of Gray in my beard. Oh OK, are you more like salt and pepper or is it like is it spots like you left spots, spots and my wife wants to like when she sees it? She tries to pull the Gray hairs out and it hurts. Don't pull hair out of your face. Al Exactly, yeah. Tony Anyway, Luke Cage doesn't have a lot of hair, so we should get back to him, that's true. Al He does have a. It's it's not a beard, right? It's it's facial. Go to what is that goatee? OK, I go to I guess yeah. Tony Yeah, um. Tony Let's see. Tony I always break down like I never get the context, but he took out a sugar with this lap. I love it when he just slaps people and they go down. Al Yeah, it's It's so nice. It's also really good. You know when we when we realize he can just do that an earlier in the season. What was it like the first or second episode? He thought a bunch of people and he just completely wrecked Gangus Khan ES restaurants. Yeah, he didn't have to do that at all. Tony No, you know I feel bad about Gangus counties. What if they like paid someone to replace the window and like two days later it gets blown up? Al Yeah. Al That that's going to be an interesting call back to your your insurance company, right? Like, hey, listen, something happened. Some people broke the window like what's the deductible? OK, alright, well it sucks. You'll probably still have to pay like half of the costs or whatever, but you know, hey, at least the insurance companies covering part of that. OK, so you pay for that two days go by. Al You have to now you have to call back the insurance company. Hey, um? Al So the whole building blew up. Al What's the deductible for that? Are we covered? Tony Well, I mean in New York City, Pat Post The Avengers, there has to be some sort of coverage for. Tony Well, he's not like that was Cornell. He wasn't even a super villain. I don't think. Even if they had superhero deductibles. Tony They would count that. Al Yeah, exactly like is that I is that covered under anything normally like I don't. Tony I don't think so. I mean, I don't know. Al Yeah, it's not arson, it's not. Al An act of war it's. Tony Well, I mean it is. Tony Kind of an act of war. Tony I know the war on crime. Al Yeah, it's internal. Al In America, it's all American citizens. Tony I I don't I don't know. We need an insurance. If you're inserting insurance agent and you listen to us, please let us know if your house gets the blown up by rock grenade shot by a crime boss. Are you covered or what kind of coverage do you need? Al Yeah, exactly house or or building a restaurant right? Your business. Al Either way, yeah, just just kind of curious. Maybe you get different results based off. Tony Of that yeah. Tony Yep. Tony Alright, I've got one more, um, know that Luke is just like this. Great exchange that they have between Luke and striker when Luke walks out says couldn't we have made amends a long time ago? Spectre goes couldn't you have died during childbirth like oh cold but accurate for what he's feeling? Al Yeah. Al Is that uh, or? You know, I'll bring that up a little bit later when we talk about him specifically, just 'cause then we'll end up on more tangents. I don't have anything else about Luke, but no, I mean what? What, you're right, yeah, super cold dude, yeah now. Al Children say things like that, right? But they don't really know what they're saying. The students in its 30s or 40s. I don't. I can't tell. I didn't actually look at how old the actor is, but damn. Tony Yeah, well he is acting very childish like he's doing all this just because his dad liked his brother more. Yeah, that's true, yeah? Tony Alright, moving on to Misty Yeah she. Al Did it too much. She survived. She made it through the end of the episode. Yeah, she had to stick her finger in her own arm. Oh God, that was tough to watch, Yep. Tony I mean, this whole episode was a misdirect for. If you know the comics Misty has her bionic arm, she lost her arm and got bionic. One may or may not happen in the future. This these programs. Tony But it's like made everyone think hey, she's gonna get bionic arm. She's gonna lose her arm. And then, Nope, she just gotta stick her finger in her arm. Al Yep, exactly well. She even at the How was it this episode or next one? I didn't write that down. OK? Yeah, at the end of this episode. Al Um, they they tell her that or what? Al Well, I think it might have been clear. I mean, uh, who says? Yeah, if you. Al You know, if you stay like this for a long enough time, your arm might have to be amputated. Tony Yeah, so yeah. Every comic book fan got excited and the amputation of a woman's arm. Al We have some problems. Al Yeah. Yeah. Tony Yeah, um. Tony I need get frustrated that she tried to call Ridley on her phone and it was like wonky but sound like they could hear each other kind of but she just hung up and gave up. Al Yeah, now I know the screen was pretty messed up, but she could have at least tried to send a text, or at least maybe have Luke do that. Tony But she just got. She just got shot. Does she really needs a? Tony Cut on her finger from glass. Luke can do it. He won't get cluster true. Al And then later when Claire shows up, maybe Claire has a phone. Tony Yeah, well, Claire having a phone that might be better. I think it might have been the the connection down in the basement 'cause they don't want text since it could be anyone texting on her phone. Al Yeah, I guess that's true. Oh, send a selfie right of like her Anne Luke smiling or something. There you go. Tony Yeah, that's why he wanted Luke in there smiling with her. That doesn't seem suspicious at all when they think Luke's doing everything. Al Yeah, exactly, you're not going to both be smiling. Al Not that he's a bad guy exactly. Al Or I mean, if he's like one of those crazy bad guys, but so far we don't know of any of those existing in the MCU, right? Al Like waiting a crazy bad guy. Well like the Joker right? Like like Haha smiling. I'm doing evil stuff, yay, I mean kilgrave, I would think Kilgrave was like that. Al Yeah, you're right. He kind of was, huh? Tony Yeah, I guess I think if there's any other ones who are like that. Tony I don't think so well. I mean, there aren't a lot of villains like the Joker. Al That's true and he's, uh. He's definitely a unique type, yeah? Tony Doing this carnage, I mean he's not in the MCU, but carnage would be like that, yeah? Al He definitely would be. He's he definitely loves murdering. Tony And that kind of loves the murder, yeah? Tony Uh. Al It's gotta be someone else. Al Dead pool. Al Like that one big pool, I forgot what it was called, but it was number one there. There was a like an evil dead pool type character in one of the comments. Tony I'm sure there is, there's like. Tony The dead pool gets so weird I don't like try to keep up with all the weird stuff and Ethel. Yeah, yeah, I enjoy the dead pool in Spiderman Comics are like my favorite Deadpool ones, but I don't read a lot of his stuff. Al Yeah, dead pool with other characters is always fun, but I there was a point where I just had to stop reading anything deadpooled because there were so many things like just it was too much and so I just like it. Went cold Turkey for awhile. Tony Probably something in dead pool about cold turkeys probably I'm sure, so I feel like I know the dead pool is entertaining and I love the movies. Tony I feel like Deadpooled Comics are kind of like the Family Guy of comics is like. Sometimes they have a joke that just hits really good, but most of the time it's crap. Al Yeah, that's fair, yeah, and then you know it's also one of those things where once you have a a big following then you have like. Al You have the jokes you have to do like like he has to go eat Jimmy Changas. Yeah every time yeah. Al So alright, and stuff like that. Al I don't have it. Al Apparently, she finally believes Luke's a hero. Yay. That's good. All it took was her almost dying from the real villain. But yeah, you know, at least a it works out. Good thing Luke was there to stop other bullets from hitting her. Tony True yeah, couldn't be there for the first bullet. Tony Dang it and then. Tony Yeah, all those ricochet bullets, probably killing other people, I'm just assuming. Al Ah. Al Yeah, I'm. Al OK, they do always ricochet, right? Tony Yeah, OK, like they. I mean they have to you don't see them drop like you'll see that coming off of Superman or not is like they flatten it and they just fall. They just lose all momentum. Don't know how something to do with this alien DNA. Tony But it seems like they bounce off of of Luke. Al OK, so so Luke is is more like like metal skin kind of thing, so he's more like a a Man of Steel and Superman 'cause he's like absorbing it. I guess he's more like fleshy or something, so he's. He's kind of kind of rubbery here. He's able to take that force, OK? Al I I don't have a good like yeah I need to call him yeah. Tony It's like a a powerful man. He's like a power man. Al Yeah, yeah, there we go, yeah. Tony Alright, on to our villains. Speaker 3 I ask you to what end? Speaker 3 Read it. Speaker 3 Run from it. Speaker 3 Destiny arrives all the same. Tony It's funny, isn't it? Leaving the best demand can be. Tony Deceived by their true nature. The hell does that mean? Tony That I am the L intent. Speaker 3 What about turning the other cheek? Speaker 3 Jesus saves. Speaker 3 I don't. Al Alright, we've got a few. Al Right, I guess who should we start with? Uh, well, I mean we we keep I like start starting at the top so let's go with the let's go with Diamondback Mr Strike. Al Oh OK, I I didn't really write down a lot of notes in this episode. Nothing really like jumped out at me like to to really talk much about. But I mean one of the things we definitely are seeing is he's. Al He's, uh, he's very obsessive about making sure he kills Luke and. Al As a result, shades keeps kind of bringing that up, an mentioning that he's he's going a little overboard here, and he does not like that. Striker striker doesn't like being told, hey, you gone crazy man. Tony Yeah, so although I'll change those deal with little humor 'cause he does say what you talking bout Willis to have a little striker? Tony Yeah, that's right I. Tony Like how list calls out that it's like how long have you been waiting to say that? 'cause my note right after that, like I paused it to write down how long were the writers waiting to say that? Tony And then he says that shades. Al Yeah, well and then but striker also says at one point like why did you use my real name so he was not happy with that? Speaker 3 Yeah. Al Because you can't pass up a comedic opportunity like that. God, that's true in front of so many people who won't get the reference because they don't know his real name. Tony That's true. Why did randomly quitting good times or different strokes not good times, different strokes? Tony Anyway, yeah um, I thought that when they pull out the Bible and it's all marked up, I thought it was like showing that he was unstable, but it's probably not thinking back. It's probably because the Bibles from his dad, who was a preacher, got to write in it all the time for notes. Al OK yeah I I like tried pausing it here and there to see if there was any like message or something that they would bring out. But no there there wasn't anything. Nothing you could really see. Yeah, but it was his notes. OK I was I. I thought it was his moms notes. Tony No. 'cause he says that he got that Bible from his dad who is a preacher. Tony OK, I thought he said she got it from or or or maybe she got it from his dad. Anyway it it came originally from his dad so I figured that's who made all the notes and stuff. Al Oh, OK, alright, that makes sense. Tony Yeah, I mean, although I still think well, just not just because he's obviously unstable, but he must be crazy 'cause he wrote in a book and I feel like even when I was in college and you know you're supposed to take notes and stuff and like books to keep notes, I always have problems with writing in books. I feel like it's terrible. I'm very protective of my books. Tony So yeah, it that's just a sign of his madness that he'd be willing to write in the book. Al Alright, so remember out there everyone Tony says if you write in books you're crazy villainously Tony Also also, if you dog your books, then you're a mad person as well. Tony I'm standing by that, not taking it back Alright Alright. Al Uh, So what else have you got about Mr Prager? Tony Oh the his super glove. Tony That makes no sense. Tony Why? Because because he puts out is just. It's just a glove attached with wires, suitcase, right? Tony You get your like. The power punch doesn't come from your hand. Tony It comes from your arm and the way your body moves into a punch. The hand is just the blunt object that's hitting them. So if I put a glove on. Tony Unless it's like. Tony Maybe metal you know? Or an iron fist? It wouldn't really it would hit him hard, but it wouldn't change the force that is hitting him. Shoot him across the room or killing him. Al So I didn't look at the. Al The fist itself, or the glove, but I mean it, it's possible that something about the glove is the thing, actually. Al Giving the force like. Al Like he doesn't have to move his hand very fast like a like a normal punch. I mean he could just kind of touch someone and then they'd go flying. Tony Right is that so? I mean. Al That's a possibility, is what I'm saying. Tony I it it? I guess it could be a possibility like. Tony I don't know how you'd explain it, like if it was like more like a magnetic force. I know he's not metal, but an just like a force field blowing him away more than the actual force of the punch. Tony Yeah, that could make sense, yeah? Al And that's kind of what I was. What I was going with, right? Like basically just. Al The the glove is just pushing someone and it's putting all of that force in a fist sized spot, so that's easier to I. I assume that makes it easier to kill someone, right? 'cause you have like all of the force localized to 11 area now, I'm sure that's not at all where they were going at with this weapon. Al But you know, I'm sure that can be explained in some sci-fi enough way. Tony Yeah, I mean I feel like it was supposed to just give him super strength in his arm an that isn't how it will work at all. Al Exactly, yeah I I agree with you. Tony But yeah, that's that's all. Oh he. Also he's a failure. He pushes Kansas off the balcony. Luke makes her lesser survive, and then he misses killing Luke with his last Judas bullet. Like come on man. Tony You had one shot. Al Yeah he, I'm sure he was not happy about that, yeah? Al Yeah, and you know what he said, OK so. Al What we saw of him earlier. Basically when he first showed up, was that he is very calm and calculated, and if he really wanted to kill Luke, he would have done something to make absolutely sure of it right in in terms of seeing the OR. Sorry not saying in terms of making sure that he actually hit Luke. Al With the last Judas bullet so. Al I kind of think that this is another example of him just losing it, right? 'cause he had to be the one to hold was a new canvas, so he said yeah OK canvas. So he he had to be the one to hold canvas instead of having someone else around like shades or like it. Shades was gone but someone else right holding her and then striker would have been off in a corner. Al Pointing the gun. Tony Now I don't know how stable he was in general. He like he came in guns blazing in public, destroying those poor people's theater. Al Yeah, that's true. Tony Like I, I don't know how different it would be if he started losing it because he seems like constantly crazy. Al Yeah, plus, let's not forget what started this whole thing when Misty walks in to arrest him and he says no. And he just started shooting her. He didn't even know Luke was there. He thought he was just about to kill Misty. Yeah, just about to, you know, nonchalantly killer croc. Yeah, exactly yeah, yeah, they don't retaliate at all. Tony No, well, actually remember. I mean was it part of his plan? Didn't he want it to seem like Luke killed Misty? Al Yeah, but if that were true, he'd use that glove, right? Not a gun. Tony That's true, they actually called it out. I think this episode where like a gun isn't his style. Al Yeah exactly yeah. Tony Interesting, yeah. Al So I'm gonna go with what you said he's a lot less stable than we thought when he first showed up. So OK. Tony That's all I've got for a striker. Al Yeah, same here. Yeah, who else do you want to move on to? Tony Uh, I've got a little bit about shades. Al OK, so. Al Before we talk about shades, I just want to be clear shades is. Al A villain, not a guy in the Chair, Right? 'cause I'm I'm. Tony Yeah, I always. Tony I say Guy in the chair is a supporting our hero. Everyone else is against him is a villain. Al OK, that sounds good. Al Yeah. Tony Um shades is getting a little bold. He's starting to treat striker like he's Cornell. Al Yeah, well, I mean, there's that direct parallel of being very angry with Luke Cage and wanting to kill him over anything else. So yeah, he he literally just got over that a week ago. What the hell? Tony I mean, yeah, I'm but my thing is the reason he could talk to Cornell the way he did was 'cause he had Stryker backing him up from the shadows. Tony So no one back in upstream she's against Riker as far as we know, or as far as the show is told us. Al Yeah, that's true. I mean, all we know is everyone scared of striker for a good reason. Yeah exactly yeah. So I Mean Hell we saw him kill most of the other gang leaders a week or two ago. So yeah, yeah and nothing has happened to him since then. Tony Sure. Tony Um the other note I have for shades, is shades finds the Hatch that goes downstairs and he tries to take on the two women right? Who you know ones woon. Did the other ones, Claire so it makes up for it and they kick his *** Tony But what was his plan if Luke was down there? Tony I mean, yeah, he lost the two women, but he could like in his mind reasonably say I could take them even though he's wrong. Tony She couldn't take Luke Cage, that's true. Al OK, so thinking about this a little bit. Just try to give him some sort of benefit of the doubt 'cause he he is. Al Um, pretty calculated and in thinking through stuff right? He wants to survive um. Al By the time he found the secret entrance. Al He had. Al Or a striker I think had already given the announcement that Luke needs to show up or he's gonna start killing a hostage every 10 minutes. Is that true? Tony I think so, Yeah, 'cause he had already busted through the wall and left. Al OK, so then in that case the the assumption would be on in in terms of of shades, he's assuming all right? Well, Luke is like going Tord Strecker. So I'm free to go find Misty and get rid of one of the few people who can. Al Like really get rid of our story. Tony Yeah, I mean, I guess although you know he has no evidence that Luke isn't still down there, 'cause Luke takes the longest time apparently to get from that basement all the way back to the lobby or the dance floor or whatever you call it because it takes longer than 10 minutes 'cause he kills the Councilman. Al Oh, that's right. Tony So for all he knows, Lucas still hiding out down there. Al Alright, Yeah, well there goes that that plan then yeah, you're you're right. I you have no idea what change was thinking. Al Being an idiot. Tony Yep. Al Um, do you have anymore villains? No? Um, so Mariah wasn't in this episode. Visually, they talk about her. Al Uh, but that's it. Like that, nothing I've got. Tony Yeah, I don't know where to. Al Put Blake Tower who's the guy who ends up from the DA's office. Yeah, which we last saw in the Daredevil. Yeah, but yeah, I, I mean, in a sense we could throw him around, guy in the chair 'cause? Al Or 12%, but I mean definitely out of hero or villain. Tony Yeah, well, then we'll talk about it later I guess. Al Alright, so we're done with villains. Let's take a quick ad break and then we'll get back into the show. Talking to baskin-robbins, would you like to try our mango fruit? Blast injuries named a flavor after me so. Speaker 3 Stark raving hazelnuts. Speaker 3 For your consideration. Goodyear Al So Tony, as a homeowner, I feel like a failure for multiple reasons. For example, I don't own a chainsaw. Do you know the other big item missing in my home? Tony A working fan. Al I shouldn't have told you that story before we started recording exactly tell me a secret room. Well, we all had that childhood fantasy of sneaking around the House and popping up without anyone noticing. Some people even have that fantasy as an adult, but hey, no judgment here. It's your home. I hope the team came out in order. Al To make sure that we trust our sponsors, we always test their product first. So I have first hand knowledge of what it's like to have a secret room added to your house. The team came out, they planned where it would go and took care of all of the hard work for me. They told me to leave and when I came back six hours later, they were done. I paid them with a credit card and then they left. Al The best part I don't even know where the room is. It's that much of a secret, but it's OK. I paid them. I know it's somewhere because I paid them a lot for it. Al Use promo code MCU. Rewind to get a free upgrade in your choice of hidden door handles. Al Dennis Yeah also Tony. Just a heads up. I keep looking up at my ceiling fan every so often and I don't know if it's moved and like is about to fall on me. Fingers crossed but we'll see what happens I I think I think it'll at least make it to the end of this recording. Will see what happens. Excellent listener if future episodes is just me recording this by myself. Tony Because a fan fell and killed L as we were recording this. Al This is another reason why I feel like a failure of a homeowner. I can't mess with things in my house. Tony I mean no, you can, you shouldn't. Al Yeah, that's that's the better, better phrase. Tony 'cause you did but yeah anyway. Tony Moved on to the guy in the chair or as I should say, the woman in the basement. I think that's what I want to do. Help people. Speaker 3 Abilities. Speaker 5 No no, no no no, not those three wombats no way. Al Who are we starting with Claire? Tony Yeah, I mean that's the only one I have. Unless you have someone else. Al Um? Al Detective Wrigley I had a little point about it. I mean similar to you know how you were talking through the text, really analyze will throw up like tower in there too. Yeah exactly, Yeah. But yeah, let's talk about Claire 'cause she's the the main supporting character here for the for the hero. Al Um? Al Yeah, I you know we we keep talking about like how awesome Claire is from the perspective of like yeah she. Al Um, I don't want to say that she has like she is fearless, but like you know she doesn't have a problem with going into the dangerous situation an she did a really good thing here of, you know, having a good plan to escape from the team and look for loop or escaped from the hostage takers. Al Right she she told the other lady to pretend you're diabetic and then she, you know, got escorted down and then. Al Was attacked now how she knew to look for Luke? Yeah how she knew to look for him that way that she was I don't actually know. did I miss something? Yes. Tony She she ask Candace if there's any other way out and he said yeah, you can go down. OK, Alright, That's right that that does sound familiar. Now that you mention that, OK? Al So cool, so she she thought of a plan in like 10 seconds of talking to Candace and that's about it. And then better plan than I would have thought of because it wouldn't have occurred to me to hit the wall adjoining it with a whatever she used the wrench or whatever. Yeah exactly. I mean I would have used my hand and then realized wait a minute, this is doing nothing and then I don't know. Sat down. Tony Yeah, I would look for a door and then then like. Well if there's no door. I guess we're all gonna die. Al Yeah, I guess. I mean I shouldn't be surprised. I don't know why there would be a door into a secret room, but OK. Tony I know, I mean, why would you expect that someone to build a secret room for you? Tony Um, yeah. Also, I don't have any friends that I know of who can just punch down a wall, so I guess that's not the type of mentality I have in general. Al Yes, that's true. Yeah, all you have to do is let them know that you're there, and then they'll do the rest of the work. Tony Uh huh. Tony True. Tony Yeah um, yeah she she saves people she kicks. Ah she gets looked out and then she crushes shades glasses. Al Yeah, I'm sure that felt really good, yeah? Tony Now what do we call him? Tony Oh, come on, we don't know his name until next episode. We could call him anything. Al That's true, um, the villain formerly known as Shadez Yeah. Al Yeah Claire, yeah that's all I have clear fixing looks crappy job at turning it but we talked about that. OK alright well in that case we'll move on. So I mentioned Detective Ridley Right Detective Ridley. I don't know why I wrote down to the inspector inspector really alright. Tony Like like gadget, not Pikachu. Tony Inspector gadget detective Pikachu she's a. She's a cat person. Al OK. Al So at the end of the episode, um, you know she and Mr. You're talking an A Ridley tells Misty she's like, hey, I trust you like I believe you what you said about Luke being the good guy all this stuff, but we need to verify the story right? And so I'm I'm gonna give her bonus points for that like as a character like hey cool trust but verify. Al Like unfortunately, given how messed up all this is, yeah, it it kind of sucks with that situation, but at least she's trying to help. She's not like yelling at Misty and saying I don't want to hear anything. You have to say go lose your arm over there or something, so at least we're saying, yeah. Tony She's bleeding in the corner, she said leave me alone. Al Yeah, that's it. That's all I had, yeah. Tony I've got a little bit about Blake Tower, who we already talked about that he showed up last in Daredevil. Tony Um and he's giving her the our, her people, the advanced weaponry that he doesn't want them to use. 'cause it will end up on the streets. Is there like no rumbling about what's happening with the vultures? People at this time? Al That's a good point, I mean. Al OK so so timing wise I guess we don't know. I mean we do know definitely that the Vulture is doing stuff. Yeah, but and he started in 2012, OK got it. 'cause that was right after the the stuff in The Avengers. OK so. Al Huh? Al So I guess that's part of the question. It is he like how, how well is he known for doing stuff? Tony Yeah, I mean his thing was he wanted to keep it low level because he didn't want The Avengers coming in. Tony But I if people are committing crimes with his weapons. Tony They've gotta be aware that there's alien tech on the market. Al Yeah, that's true. Tony Yeah. Tony Um, yeah, moving away from this. Who do we know who the mayor of New York is like in the MCU at this time? Do they we ever see them? Al I don't think so do do we ever get told that at any point in time and everything I'm trying to think because. Tony There's a future season of these. These Netflix shows that gets into politics, but I don't know if they get into who the mayor is. Tony I want to like spoil anything. OK what? But is it possible? Tony From the comics, the mayor is J. Jonah Jameson. That's why he's fine putting this stuff up against heroes. Al Um, I'm gonna go with no just because of the five seconds we get of him at the end of far from a. Tony Well, I mean. Tony It is not unheard of nowadays that a politician would then become a media personality. Tony After their out of politics. Al I guess that's true, yeah? Al Huh? Tony We have to wait till the the J Jones Jameson Disney plus show. Al Ah, damn. Al OK, I watch the J Jonah Jameson things like that would be like a school like 1015 minute episode thing that they do. You know, once or twice a week they release and they do that for a couple months. That would actually be kind of interesting and just like any mostly jokes. Tony You know Disney owns the rights to Spiderman on TV, which probably would connect with. Tony Spiderman Disney Plushes. Tony So they can do whatever they want. Al So if they wanted to make a live action Spiderman TV show, they could. Tony As far as my understanding is yes, interesting Casoni has the TV or the movie rights. That's why all the Spiderman cartoons are on Disney Plus. Al OK, I I wasn't sure about the cartoon stuff specifically like cartoon versus live action, but huh? Al That could be interesting if if Disney wants to do like a cool like a Disney Plus Miniseries or something with Spiderman and. Al Yeah, instead of like a third movie that could get interesting. Tony Yeah, well, I mean like he, they're signed on for Spiderman, a third movie and a third team up movie or another team would be. This will be the 4th one. Tony But I mean after that, if they don't care about keeping a good deal with Sony, keep throwing Tom Holland in the net for the Disney plus shows. Al Alright, that would be interesting. Al Um, well now great now to just bring all this stuff up since I'm curious. Al Yes, I wonder at that point if Tom Holland has any more things in his contract that he has to do with Sony for Spiderman 'cause I wonder at that point if he basically only goes into Disney plus four for a TV shows. Tony Yeah, it's a. It's a big question Mark 'cause he can be in any Sony stuff they want. Tony The Spurs contract test Spiderman so I'm like what's going to happen with Morbius. I mean in venom two and. Tony Whatever else they do with that weird connected universe. Tony ***** Al The Sony Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. OK, I was never gonna think Sony Pictures. OK, Alright Where were we? Who else do we have for the guy in the chair? No, I think that's it but tower and Spiderman. Al Ah, perfect. I'm glad spytty showed up to help right there at the end. Al Um, alright. So then let's move on 12% of the plan. Speaker 6 Stark tower is your baby. Give yourself 12% credit. 12% an argument can be made 15. Speaker 6 12% well I tried, they did. Speaker 6 Do all the heavy lifting literally. I lifted the heavy things. Speaker 4 You know, I'm 12 months older than you. Speaker 3 Oh, what percentage? I don't know 12 percent 12%. Tony That is not a plan. Speaker 4 Barely a concept you're. Al Taking their side. Speaker 3 I am group so. Speaker 6 What is better than 11%? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Tony What about two things for this? Tony Um, one striker plays son of a preacher man by Dusty Springfield. I just wanted to mention this because growing up my parents used to put on a lot of 60s and 70s music. 'cause that was like when they were kids and teenagers. Tony So I don't have a real nostalgic feel for that song. I just want to mention it. Tony It was weird 'cause of how in the black history and everything this is they use this version instead of the Aretha Franklin version that came out in the 70s. Al Oh, OK. Tony Yeah, but I don't know why. But anyway, and then my other thing is when shades goes downstairs to wash his hands right right before he finds basement of the ******* ladies, uh, he's in the kitchen and you look behind him and I rebounded to double check. You see no damage from that grenade they shot in there earlier. Al It's fine, it's perfect, oh. Tony So I'm just like you know what? It's nice that they decide. After all this. Um striker just has everyone clean everything perfectly for whenever Harlems Paradise gets back on his feet, well, they can't have any evidence of you know high explosive weapons used inside, that's true. Al Like that that doesn't go with their story of trying to. Al Um, pin everything on Luke Cage. Tony Yeah. Al Alrighty, anything else or is that I know that that was my 12% alright. Well, in that case let's go ahead and rate the episode. I know my value, anyone else is pending. Doesn't really matter. Speaker 4 Earth just lost your best defender. Speaker 3 So we're here to fight. Speaker 7 Strongest Avenger Access denied. Strongest Avenger Access denied. Speaker 3 Damn you stock. Speaker 7 Banner. Speaker 7 Welcome strongest Avenger. Al Oh Watt, Let's rate the episode with how many? Al Um? Al Broken sunglasses. Tony Do you rate this OK? Tony That that reminds me, I'll. Tony I should have chosen that, but oh OK, I thought oh that's right, 'cause you? Oh, sorry, well sorry I'll do it next week. I'll do it next week. Sounds good. Tony How many broken sunglasses I would give this one? Tony This is hard, 'cause a lot of stuff happened in this, but also. Tony Not really, I, I mean, but entertaining enough. I think it's 3.5 three point, 5 out five broken sunglasses. Al Alright, and and for the exact same reasons I'm giving it the same score, right? It's you know stuff is happening, but it's. Al It's it's the reason why I don't like the Netflix shows as much, right? There's there's so much story that's going on, but so much of the shows themselves are. Al Little slower because they can take their time with things and and as a result it's. Al Yeah, it it. Al Less, I guess less entertained, less less. Stuff is happening. That's exciting. So yeah, I mean, I guess I thought you maybe give it a little more just because they could have put strikers whole back story into a big flashback, which they decided not to. Your right. I'll give them a, uh, a nice even for that sounds OK, sounds a little better. Al Right? Al Oh alright, well in that case let's close this out everyone. Al So until next time, Please remember to follow us on Twitter. We're at MC_rewind and if you could also subscribe to the show, preferably do an auto download. I think. I think that's the the better way to listen to podcasts with the auto download. It's not like that. You know boosts our numbers or anything and also again. Al Uh, listen. Next week we will be talking about season one, episode 12 soliloquy soliloquy of chaos. So until then this has been episode 11 of season one of Luke Cage. Now you're mine. This is the Marvel Cinematic rewind signing off. Tony Have a marvelous day. Speaker 8 I know I caught you out there, you got no clouds here and I doubt there is any way that you can stop the beat down your order. Play the background and sit back down chumps like you, I gotta keep him in line so prepare to suffer boy, 'cause now you're mine. Speaker 8 Yeah.
