Audio file Episode 176 - Luke Cage - 112.mp3 Transcript Speaker 1 Hi everyone, before we get started we wanted to let you know that we recorded most of our Luke Cage rewinds before the resurgence in black lives matter protests after the killings of George Floyd and countless others. As you probably know the Luke Cage Series goes deep into the kinds of racism faced by black people every day. Tony As hosts who are not black, we have not covered as well as we should have, but we are trying to get better. Tony We stand in solidarity with the black lives movement so our non discussion of the issue in these episodes comes from recording before the tragedies and not ignoring the issues. Tony Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic rewind, the podcast that rewatches reviews and raps about. The hero of Harlem for every movie showing one shot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm Tony Camarena. Speaker 1 And I'm not religious. Tony And you all can follow us on Twitter at MC_rewind. Tony And give us a five star review and throw us on the auto download on your podcast. Capture and do all those things. Tony But this episode we are covering Luke Cage season one, episode 12 soliloquy of Chaus original air dates, September 30th, 2016. Oh, I think I said that wrong soliloquy of chaos. September 30th, 2016. Speaker 1 I think he still got it a little wrong 2016. Tony What did I say when I say 2016? Yeah yeah. Tony It's OK, that's. Tony Right, yeah, you're right. It's after after 25 you gotta stop saying. Speaker 1 Alright, let's yeah, yeah, let's just get into the episode. Here's the here's the summary of what happens. Speaker 1 Mr gives Iluka message before he's transported to the police precinct. He understands her message and breaks out during the transport. Speaker 1 Misty keeps her investigation into this whole mess she meets with Candace, who tells Misty that it was Mariah Dillard who killed cottonmouth. Missy takes Candace into her protection shades, doesn't give up any information while he's maintained once he's let out, Diamondback tries to have him killed by zip. It doesn't work out at all. Speaker 1 Domingo decides to kill Diamondback and take over his business. It doesn't work out at all. Luke finds diamond backs, location an gets Domingo out before a creative C4 explodes. Domingo gives Luke a cryptic message just before dying. I don't. I don't think that really worked out for him, 'cause I don't think he gave him real info. Finally, shades and Mariah. Speaker 1 Go to Pops Barber shop to make a deal with Luke Cage. They want to give him proof that diamondback framed him as Carl Lucas, but right after that Misty tries to arrest Mariah. Then diamondback walks in with some kind of power suit. Tony So let's go into our Fairfax Test. Tony On my left guard. Speaker 3 Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast. I would catch it. You didn't see that coming. Tony Right now, what fast facts, you got. Speaker 1 All right, I don't. I don't know how well to bring this up. If this is a fast fact or not, but it's pretty obvious that in this episode Method Man has a has a cameo, and so we talked about him a couple of weeks ago when. Speaker 1 Zip was talking about, uh. Speaker 1 Uh, the weapons that he was selling, so we had this like indirect reference to Method Man slash. Speaker 1 Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider, Yeah. Also one of the things during his during his rap that he he does. He mentions Iron Man directly like I don't think this they've ever in any of the Netflix shows so far have mentioned any of the other heroes from the movies by name we. Speaker 1 We've definitely gotten a few times where they talk about. Speaker 1 You know a billionaire with a suit of iron or a hammer that fell from the Sky. Tony Yeah, I mean one thing I do about have about that rap though. Also along with Iron Man, right? They didn't mention Tony Stark by name one time. Also, yeah that's true. Yeah Yeah, but one thing is he also mentions in his rap heroes for he's a hero for hire, which is a reference to the comic, obviously. Tony And Lucas specifically, to him, not hero for hire. He tells him he's not going to get paid for this, or he won't accept money for this. That's right. Tony Um an for anyone who doesn't know who a Method Man, part of Wu Tang clan, or as I knew him in the early 2000s. Tony A playable character in a Def Jam vendetta, which was game I played a lot. Speaker 1 Personally, Tony, you knew him personally. Tony Yeah, I played against him in Def Jam vendetta. He would always choose Redman, Redman, Redman, what the hell is wrong with me? Tony Bill Redmond. Tony And I actually actually don't know who else was in Def Jam vendetta like I always actually play it as Method Man and I know Redmond was in there till Redmond was also in there. Tony Anyway, um as well. Oh, also, I might throw that rap as our final episode instead of the song Cancilla Queen of chaos. Tony Which is from a gang stars album called daily operation. I've been trying to think there was a lot of chaos in this episode. Was anyone giving out soliloquy's in the subtitle? Speaker 1 Um, I no I I don't think so. I think I told you just before we started recording that I had to look up with soliloquy means it's. Speaker 1 It it's when a character is talking to themselves, but out loud. Tony Yeah, it's very common in Shakespeare. I remember how much experience do some other queries, Huh, OK. Speaker 1 Yeah, I don't think so. I don't think anyone. Speaker 1 Spoke to themselves out loud. It definitely wasn't Luke who did that, 'cause He's usually a. Speaker 1 Quiet kind of person, quiet care I don't know. Tony Yeah, I mean. Tony The one when I hit the chaos I would think it's diamondback, but I remember him talking to himself. Speaker 1 But yeah, yeah, you're right. Every every scene of his that I remember he was talking to someone. Speaker 3 Bush. Tony Well. Tony The first time they failed in the episode title. Alright, we also see Stanley who makes a cameo on this. Tony 'cause there's a poster with Stanley on it outside of the, uh, the corner store that he meets Method Man in. Speaker 1 That's right, um, has he shown up in any of the other Marvel shows? Tony That poster, that specific poster is shown up in all the other seasons. Speaker 1 Gotcha OK wow? How did I miss that OK? Tony Yeah, I I the only one I remember off the top of my head is season one of Daredevil. Tony Um, in the police station like they go. Tony I remember Daredevil listening to police officers and is like right over your shoulder, but I remember seeing it like on the IMDb trivia section that's in this episode right there and then. I never saw like Super Tiny. Tony OK, yeah. Tony Uh, we also get diamondback, so really dumb looking comic accurate costume at the end of this episode. Tony And then we get a reference to the movie 7. Have you ever seen the movie 7? Speaker 1 I don't think so, no. I I think there's a movie. I always mix it up with. Tony Is it 8 1/2 weeks? I don't know nine mile. No, I I I know I don't. I don't think I've ever seen seven. I don't know my own title of the movie. I mix it up with lucky number Slevin said, Oh yeah, that's that's a movie. I actually OK yeah, that's why it's a weird movie. I enjoyed that one I haven't seen in a very long time. Tony It was it was good. Tony Right? Tony I don't know how much I want to get into uh about 7 because it really spoils. The ending of the movie oh so maybe? Yeah. Speaker 1 Yeah, well, what's with the reference in the show? Tony Um, what's in the box? Well, yeah, OK, well I I I know of that I've heard people talk about that a lot but. Speaker 1 OK, yeah, I guess we don't want to talk about the ending or or what that is then. OK, no one ever really finds out what's in the box, right? Speaker 1 Yes I do. Oh, I didn't know that, OK? Tony Oh well, you know what? Tony How about every listener? Fast forward one minute 'cause I'm going to just go into it. If you don't want to know what's happening, go Skip Skip 30 seconds twice. I'll try to keep it in a minute. Tony Alright, in a 7 the killer is killing people based off the seven deadly sins serial killer. Tony And at the end it's Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, and they get a box delivered to them. Tony And they found out that you know Brad concealing what's in the box. They opened the box and it's wrath, and he killed the killer, killed his wife and it's her head in the box. No, yeah, killer killed his own wife or Brad Killer killed Brad Pitt's wife. Oh yeah, and and then they opened up in Gwyneth Paltrow's heads. Tony Right in the box. Tony And the the signifier of that is wrath. Tony I really don't remember why Ralph, but he also says it's one of the seven deadly sins in. Tony Allocate so I mean it makes sense. Speaker 1 OK, also I looked it up online, it is one of the seven deadly sins. Tony Yes, yes, just wanted to be sure and OK, we're at one minute so we can still go into the seven deadly sins. 'cause That's not doing anything else. Was it wrath, lust? Tony Greed, Gluttony. Tony And three more. Speaker 1 Yeah I I have no idea. All I know is wrath because I looked it up and it was in there. Tony Pride prize ones since. Tony And then two more. Tony Yeah alright, those are all my very long fast facts. My slow fast facts. Speaker 1 Ah OK, Alright, Well let's let's move on to the heroes. Speaker 4 Maybe it's enough. Speaker 4 But the world thinks I'm a hero. Speaker 4 I saw you. Speaker 4 You're a hero like a for real superhero, which is. I'm not like a Groupie, Stalker type. Speaker 5 I'm Luke Cage. You can't burn me, you can't blast me. Speaker 5 And you definitely can't break me. I am Harlem and Harlem is me. Speaker 1 Who do you want to start with Luke? I think we usually. Tony Just yeah, when we started we usually start with Luke. Tony Um, so Luke escapes um. Tony Mostly because of that one cop who believes in that looks a hero and used to go to pops. Tony Um? Tony Why? Tony Why does like look goes to pops eventually? I mean, I know I'm fast forwarding to the end. Yeah, but since we're talking about that, is there only one place in all Harlem that he knows? Speaker 1 That's a good point, I mean. Speaker 1 Where does he live? 'cause when Gangkiz Colonies was blown up, was that? Tony I'm I'm guessing he lives in pops, yeah? Speaker 1 I I guess yeah, yes we moved there. Speaker 1 He probably wouldn't go too. Speaker 1 Claire's place because he doesn't know if she has one. Tony It doesn't do anything with her mom, right? Speaker 1 Yeah, it's a good point. She probably is. I mean he knows how to get to the restaurant, but. Speaker 1 Uh. Speaker 1 Yeah, I, I guess he. I mean he has to know other places but ah. Tony But I mean you gotta think. Tony Every place he goes to for more than like 5 minutes blows up. Tony 'cause of his bar his bar in Jessica Jones. Tony Pops gets shot up. Gangus Khan ES. Tony Harlem paradise when he's in there and then pops again at the end of this episode. Tony You know he just needs to become really good friends with Stryker and eventually that guys house will will blow up persistent, right? That's the plan that just gonna become best friends. Well they were best friends, weren't there? That's true they were when they were kids. Yeah, yeah. Speaker 1 Yeah, so those guns that they were going to use to shoot Luke right? They were from melted down Judas Bullets. Speaker 1 But we never see if they actually worked or not, right? 'cause like it's the material, but it's not. It's not the drilling part of a truce bullet never go in. It's not the exploding part of a Judas Bullet, it's it's just the material, right? Tony From what I can see, yeah. Tony So I'm not. Tony You're right, I'm not sure it would work. Speaker 1 Yeah, now maybe it would puncture like maybe like you know death by 1000 cuts but. Tony Which was an episode? Jessica Jones? Speaker 1 Oh, that's right. Speaker 1 So, so maybe it can actually hurt like what I'm saying is, I'm curious. I kind of want to know I I wish they had like kind of shot him like in the arm or something just so we could know like how effective these are. Tony So yeah, that's it. So there's still 1. One more episode left he might. That's true an you and I have famously said we don't remember what happens in these things that we watched years ago. So it's true that very well I think I remember, but I'm not 100% sure, so I'm just going to pretend like I don't remember. I have no idea what's going to happen. Speaker 1 Alright, well that's good 'cause I don't remember what happens in the season finale next week, yeah? Tony Why are these cops so sure that these bullets are going to penetrate the skin there? Haven't tested them, they're just taking this word for it or the mayor's word for it I guess. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's a good point. I I don't know, uh. Speaker 1 I mean, maybe that's it. Maybe they just have the one track mind or like. Yeah, we're told that these are super bullets an the city paid $50,000,000 for us to get a couple hundred of them, I don't know. Yeah. Tony I mean, if Luke Cage doesn't die at the end of next episode. Tony Someone in the government is going to be in big trouble. Tony I mean the government wasting money is unheard of. Speaker 1 Yeah, exactly, they're really good about, you know, saving every last set, yeah? Tony Well anyway Luke, after he escapes he goes takes down some muggers 'cause. Speaker 1 He he has to he's Luke cage. Yeah, protect everybody. Yeah OK so this is kind of what I was a little hinting at. We talked about this last week right about bullets bouncing off of him. Speaker 1 So in this he has a couple of shots. Hit him. I don't know like two or three from a pistol right? And then he just kind of shrugs it off and knocks the guy out so. Speaker 1 That's gotta be very unsafe for those two pedestrians, right? For Method Man an. I'm assuming the person who owns the shop, yeah. Speaker 1 So like, why didn't he move in faster? He just wanted to be like, hey, I'm bulletproof. Look at me. You kind of want to show off. Tony I like the cynical part of me thinks that he didn't care if was Stan or bystanders got hit until he realized it was method Method Man. Speaker 1 OK, that's possible. Tony Yeah, I I think I mean honestly, I it's the psychological impact of you shoot a guy in the bullets bounce off of 'em then it pretty much takes my everyones danger except for those bullets that are bouncing off him. Speaker 1 OK, so it's um, I I forgot his name doctor Manhattan from the Watchmen like he just he just doesn't care anymore like he can do whatever he wants and like. Well no I don't care about humans. Speaker 1 Well, Yeah. Tony OK, I mean, I feel like that's how Iron Man is at least up until civil war. He's like something bouncing off of him and. Tony Uh. Tony Like I think of that Iron Man one, when he shoots the tank and just starts walking away before the tank explodes. Tony It's like he doesn't care if the machine guns on the side of the tank are still shooting down people. It's just cool to walk away from explosion. It's cool to have bullets bounce off of you. Tony That's true, yeah. Speaker 1 OK, yeah, I'll take it. Speaker 1 Oh alright, um, let's see what else about Luke in this episode. I don't really have too much else. Tony Yeah, Luke wasn't in this episode that much. I do have the part with him questioning Barrett. Tony And then leaving him in the dumpster. That's right. Tony Yeah, I thought it was funny. I thought there it was going to go back to Hells Kitchen in his words where it's safe. Speaker 1 Yeah, I guess he did it. Or I mean that again, it's Manhattan. It's like 3 miles from Hells Kitchen to there. I don't actually know how many miles it is from Harlem to Hells Kitchen, but it's not very far. Tony Yeah, well they had to lure him back too, but like he went to see striker earlier. Well again, that would kinda bear it probably. Tony But yeah. Tony Uh. Tony I feel like I don't know. I mean I know bear it's not a good guy, but everyone hates him and like Luke, just leaving him inside the thing and he tells Misty where he is. But Misty can't unbend that the dumpster. He's just stuck there for awhile. Yeah, also probably neither can. Speaker 1 The people who were meant to go and like take the trash out of there. What do they do? They like call someone called the fire Department used to call Luke cage. Tony Call Iron Man. Speaker 1 Yeah, they. Speaker 1 Yeah, like it's not gonna be like just the morning it's it's gonna be like mid morning, noon something like that yeah. Tony I mean, OK, if this is within six months of civil war, they could call Spiderman 'cause he got his powers six months before civil war. Speaker 1 OK, that's that's possible. Assuming they can call. Tony I thought he took his shows up and he just waved down that kid that red, the red sweater kid. Speaker 1 Yeah, OK, that's possible. Tony There's all. There's a lot of God. I don't know how they're going to get him out of there. Speaker 1 I, I mean, I honestly think like. Speaker 1 Realistically, jaws of life. That's all I could think of. Yeah, yeah. Tony Alright. Speaker 1 Ready to move on? Yeah, ready to go and Misty Yeah sounds good let's talk about her. Tony Alright, I Tony I would have misinterpreted or did I misinterpret? Or did Luke misinterpret her secret coded message? Tony I thought the message was that diamondback escaped and not to do anything before they got to the precinct. Speaker 1 That is also how I interpreted that. Speaker 1 OK OK yeah, I thought about a little bit more later and I realized, OK. Well, she also said that Claire is Scaped. Speaker 1 Um, so she's basically telling Luke, Hey, you don't have to worry about her, she's good. Speaker 1 But yeah, saying Diamondback escaped. Speaker 1 Don't do anything stupid. I'll get you out like, yeah, that that's also kind of how I interpreted her message. Tony OK, I mean like in your recap, you and it sounds like you interpreted it a different way. Speaker 1 Well, I mean I all yeah I guess I just wrote I I wrote a bad recap today. I'm I I gotta own that one but no. I mean she gives him a message. Speaker 1 And then he chooses to break out during during transport OK? Tony You think should be like it would show her being more angry about that *** ** * ***** Speaker 1 She probably just didn't care either way. She was like, well, I guess he got out and he will go do something. I don't know what, but something. Speaker 1 Honestly like it, it's it's really unsafe. I think for Luke to try and get out because he's not bulletproof anymore, right? Like she was basically telling him, hey, these weapons that may or may not actually be able to kill you. Could it be used by a lot of people, so there goes your main advantage. Speaker 1 Maybe a scaping is a bad idea. Tony Yeah, at least right now although. Tony I I don't know how the precinct would be safer for him. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's true. They do think he killed the cop so that that would not go well for him. Tony Yeah, and they're going to keep arm people with the Super bullets on him. Tony Yeah, unless it's like her plan was for him to like break through a wall in the precinct, which people wouldn't be expecting that. Tony I mean, that's true, but that would be loud. People would notice it. Oh yeah, yeah, whatever or sneakily break through a wall. Speaker 1 Very quiet, yeah OK takes him like an hour but he's able to do it. Tony Yeah, just like one. I mean you know you put it in the cuffs of your pants and just shake out the dirt. Speaker 1 Little bits of concrete. OK yeah yeah. Tony Alright, let's see Misty. Tony Um? Tony Candace finally tells the truth. I mean, this is absolute last episode. Everyone is just filling her in on all the stuff. She wasn't there for. It's really convenient. Speaker 1 It's it's always weird when that happens in a show I I feel like I've said this before, right? Like, Oh yeah, that's right. This character doesn't know that this is her first time getting actual proof. If only she found out about this thing two weeks ago then play. Tony Only if only she watched the show, but unfortunately it dropped all at the same time and she hasn't had 13 hours to watch it. Speaker 1 That's true, she she's only had three and and then that hasn't gotten very far. Nope. Tony Yeah, Cornell still alive as far as she knows. Speaker 1 And she's going to be real surprised when she finds out who killed him. Tony Right? Tony Um, one thing she does when she's talking to Candace is she takes off her sling so she can like protect Candace better. I see this a lot in shows and movies. That makes me think that you know getting shot in the arm's, just not that big a deal. Speaker 1 Yeah, included if you were shot in an artery. Tony Yeah, not a huge deal. Although you know it could just make her like lose her arm. Tony A good consequence. Speaker 1 Yeah, I'm a little worried that that might happen. 'cause you know she keeps working like this. She was told she might lose it so. Speaker 6 Yeah. Speaker 1 That was also literally my my one note about Misty, so I don't have too much, but I guess she only really had like 3 scenes. Tony Yeah, method for Misty for me also right. Speaker 1 Yeah, show she tried to. Speaker 1 To, uh, be the person to interrogate shades that didn't workout for her. Tony Yeah. Tony Um, which to be fair. Last time she interrogated someone who didn't workout for her that well either, and that was like a day ago or two days ago. That's right, another roller coaster of a week or a month. I mean, we talked about this at the end of Daredevil, right? We it. It was like every episode was right after the other one, but at the end we found out the final episode was like 3 months later. Speaker 1 From the season premiere, so yeah, II don't know. Maybe maybe it's been a month anyway. I don't have anything else for any other heroes? Is there anyone else. I don't. I don't know. No, I think we're good for Heroes Alright. Let's move on to villains. Speaker 3 I ask you to what end? Speaker 3 Read it. Speaker 3 Run from it. Speaker 3 Destiny arrives all the same. Speaker 6 It's funny, isn't it? I leave in the best command to be. Speaker 6 Deceived by their true nature, the hell. Does that mean that I am the L intent? Speaker 7 What about turning the other cheek? Speaker 7 Jesus saves. Speaker 7 Adult. Speaker 1 Oh, who do you want to start with we? I mean, we gotta start with Diamondback, Alright? Sounds good. Speaker 1 Alright um. Speaker 1 So he's he's very obsessed, like are continuing what we saw last week, right? He's very obsessed with wanting to kill Luke this week. Tony As well, surprisingly right. Tony He was so calm previously. Speaker 1 I mean, he kind of. Speaker 1 Was when he first shows up I think. Tony I don't. I don't think he was. Dude, you said that you said that before. Speaker 1 Right I I think he was less do stupid things. Tony But he was still obsessed, but he was he. He wasn't like slipping up. He wasn't doing the the big. He wasn't taking big gambles. I think. Yeah, well, I think he had one plan which was to kill in his mind, Carl. Tony And that didn't workout, so he's just like winging it for the rest of the time. Speaker 1 That's a good point unless his plan was always to use that suit that we see him with at the end of the episode. Tony Yeah, I kind of want to just skip to that suit, but. Tony Now we got this stuff first. Tony Ah, he buys off him Mariah. Tony Given our seed money for, Um, Harlems Paradise. Tony Or at least you think so, right? Because ** *** still gonna work against him. Speaker 1 Yeah, I mean she she hates working for him with him, so yeah. Speaker 5 Yeah. Tony And then, um, yeah, uh, I don't have a lot for him. 'cause there's a lot of the same stuff. We are kinda already talked about. Tony Yeah, and let's talk about a soup you were excited about that I am. Where where did you get the soup? Is this a hammer tech I? I think so. I I mean, my assumption is everything that he has is from hammer. Tony So is this what they moved on to after the suits didn't workout in Iron Man 2? Speaker 1 Oh, I mean, maybe they just had a different team working on it, right? But maybe. Tony Well, I mean now I know that's how real technology company works. But in in um shows you work on one thing at a time. Speaker 1 That's true, you're you're right. You're right, I forgot about you know that that that makes it a lot easier to tell the story. Yeah, so as a as a giant multinational company, they have probably 20,000 employees in total. Plus, you know miscellaneous contractors and you know third party companies that they work with, but. Speaker 1 Most of that doesn't matter, and it's only a ten person team that's working on one product. So yeah, so this is probably a prototype that they got and they only had the one prototype and Diamondback stole it. So now they have to go on and move on to something else I guess. Tony Yep, you can't replicate that because the one person who knew how build it. Tony Had the blueprints in his mind an never wrote it down and I got killed in this situation, here's kind. Tony Yes, so you know just PSA out there everyone for the love of God used some sort of cloud backup, something default for Christ sakes. Just just come on everything you know it really upsets me when I hear about Tesla. Like Nikola Tesla who had all these plans in his mind and it just died and never told anyone. Tony Like I don't know how much of that is true, but it really depresses me. Um, well. Speaker 1 He did have, I mean, yeah, there was that, but there were a lot of things that he wrote down and the was that the US Navy that went in and took a ton of his paperwork after he died. Oh really, yeah, a lot of that stuff like was released decades after he after he died. Tony Including the death Ray. Speaker 1 Um? Speaker 1 I don't know, uh, I I? OK, I think so. 'cause I think the death rate was this the one. Speaker 1 Or am I thinking of something else there? I remember someone made a a death Ray based off of some kind of plan and they actually tested it. Tony And it feels it. Tony Killed the town of Saskatchewan, Missouri. Speaker 1 So like like in real life they they checked. It was supposed to be like yeah and you can kill someone from a mile away and basically yeah it it could. But like the person has to stay there for like 12 hours in that one spot. Tony They have to stay there for six weeks and then they get blood clots in their legs and I yeah something like that. Yeah yeah. So with the result. Yeah hopefully they don't die of dehydration. Tony That's how they die. Tony Anyway, his suit, yes. Tony Well, yes, it's coming accurate. But unlike a lot of things, comic accurate in the MCU, it just looks so stupid. Tony It really does with his little his little cap and stuff like that. Speaker 1 I you know, I just see the like the material and just something about it just feels very. Speaker 1 Like cheap so like the which maybe it was the prototype. Maybe that's why. Tony Yeah, I mean, and the fact that it rippled like water when a bullet hit it. Tony Like how does that work? Speaker 1 Yeah. Speaker 1 So OK, so this is one thing. Speaker 1 That that happens a lot in the comics that we really don't see in any of the MCU stuff right where villain gets hold of some cool gadget made by some company or something, and then they go on evil villain spree using gadget or multiple gadgets, right? Speaker 1 I kind of wish we saw more stuff like this in the MCU. That would be so cool. I feel like we're missing out. Tony I mean. Tony So far that's been like I mean. Tony Yeah they built it, but that seems like the Spiderman's villains. So far with vulture and Mysterio is like someone elses technology or technology paid for by someone else in mysterious case and they just go on a crime spree with it. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I just. It's one of those things, right? Like 'cause they do mention hammer industries. Well I mean again, we we see that diamondback gets all of his weapons and everything from hammer, so like it would be cool. Hammer showed up in other things we were like, yeah, they I, I guess hammer is doing really well now that Justin Hammer is in jail. Tony Yeah, that it is no longer see you 'cause remember they had one guy they kidnapped from Russia developing all their stuff. 'cause apparently they had that whole factory that he just built by himself. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's right. Tony You saw no one else other than avanco hammer and Hammers Butler the whole place. Speaker 1 Yeah, you're right. Speaker 1 I didn't think about that. Tony Yep. Tony OK yeah and Venco. He built all those um drones by himself and like a six week. Speaker 1 Alright dudes, resourceful, I know. Tony Alright, so I've got nothing else to say about diamondback. I don't know if you don't know the next thing I want to do is zip, because I also wanna talk about shades, but they kind of like intersect. OK, sounds good. Tony It says it reminds me of a lot of, um. Tony I guess underprivileged kids at my work who might be have family in the gangs and think they're hard and then. Tony They like deal with someone who is really hard and they're not up to the task. Speaker 1 Yeah kinda has that like he, he just kind of fell into that. Yeah that world and he's he's trying to get through there but then as soon as yeah, as soon as he has to deal with shades yeah yeah. Tony Yeah, he tries to be shades. Actually he comes in with the glasses. Speaker 1 That's right, hey hey, that's still you know uh oh, now I forgot the phrase copycat imitation is the serious in CSS sincerest form of Flattery. Tony Yeah, you got there. I'm very proud of you. Thank you. Speaker 1 Um, Yeah, but Oh God, I was just to say hey, I mean, I'm still worried that my ceiling fan is going to fall on me so just say it. Tony Man, it's been a week. Tony Not really record the last weeks the back back. Anyway. I don't want people think you just have that fan like that for a week. Speaker 1 Yeah, no, I found the other scroop, so after this, I'm I'm. Speaker 1 Hopefully putting it. Tony More up together there, there's what there's like the the main connector is is not going to be coming right. Well, if you if you die, have Amanda text me so I don't try to record next week, OK? Tony Um? Tony Uh, yeah, so uh, yeah, zip ends up getting killed. Tony By Shades hilarious. I don't know why you're laughing. OK, I, I'm laughing from what we're talking bout second ago I realized I shouldn't be so happy about this part. So zip zip fell in battle 2 shades in a really poorly planned out assassination 'cause they had the two guys with guns right there with her back turned. Speaker 1 Yeah yeah, they they really. Speaker 1 Uh, really bad at this? Um, I'm assuming none of them have ever done it. I would assume zip has never done it. Speaker 1 I don't know why I assumed that, but. Tony All zip, like I said, zip seems very immature to me, so I think this is his first real chance to impress. Yeah, I mean the the rest of what we've seen him throughout the season. Speaker 1 You know he kept accidentaly and ending up, um, you know, going up against Luke, Yeah, so. Tony Yeah, and uh, you know I. I feel free to share or for um, zipping this, but not as much as I feel for sugar all the time. Tony Sure, the big guy who. Tony It's like I feel sorry for sugar. He's like that guy. He fell into this. He can't get out and they keep putting 'cause he's a big guy. They keep putting him against like Luke Cage and never ever works out for him. That's right. I mean it works out for him against literally anyone else, but he just keeps having to go against Luke. Speaker 6 Ah. Tony Poor guy I mean, this switch gears to shades is which kind of talking bout him already OK, yeah. Tony I like shades interview with Ridley. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's smart, right? Like I mean they always say you know if you're if you're arrested, just ask for your lawyer and keep doing that until you get a lawyer. So he was smart. I guess. I mean it's not his first time doing this from what we could tell, he's been to jail and I don't know how many times that's happened, but yeah. Tony Yeah, but I'm. Tony Like how he kinda breaks, pretends to breakdown, says he's about to give up everything and he's just like give me a name, La Urc. Speaker 6 Ah. Speaker 1 I every time I hear someone do something like that, it always reminds me of the The Simpsons joke of when The Simpsons go to Australia. Anne Marie just tried to order a coffee at that bar and the bartender just. Speaker 1 Like every time she says coffee, he just says beer right car fee be here. Speaker 1 I'm going to watch that episode soon, 'cause now that's all I can think of. Tony The next episode of my other podcast. Tony After school movie were covering the movie ATL and there's this one part there in front of a drug dealers house and these two Hansmann of drug dealer out there and this one guys like trying to finish like he's holding up his his drink or whatever it goes. Low carb and the other guy has this big like wrapped up stand when she goes. Cheese steak is disgusting. Tony Alright. Tony Yeah, so he goes and gets a Mariah. 'cause I I first of all, I forgot that I tried to kill him and I was like it was really looking like it was working and then I'm like, I'm pretty sure he's in the next season. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's one of the few things I do. I definitely remember shades being in season 2. Speaker 1 Yeah yeah. And then when he's talking to Mariah, I completely forgot about this, that he he said that he was going to harm his paradise so that he could kill Cornell. Tony Uh, huh, yeah. Tony So yeah. Tony I mean. Tony Yeah, I, I think he he thinks he's smarter than everyone else, which he is. Tony He might not be smarter than Mariah because mine is pretty smart, but he's smarter than Cornell and he's smarter than diamondback. Speaker 1 Yeah, so far we have not seen him do anything like stupid, emotional obsessive right. We absolutely have to do something maybe. Speaker 1 He hasn't had the chance yet. I mean, last week Claire broke his sunglasses, his shades so maybe the next time he sees her he he will. Yeah but yeah, yeah. Tony Oh yeah, we didn't mention we didn't mention he kills it and then takes his shades. Speaker 1 Oh. Tony Yeah. Tony Yes. Tony Yeah, I mean I have a little bit about Mariah. Tony About she's kind of embracing her dark NIS. Tony And she's accepting that. Well, she can't escape this crime life. She's might as well embrace it. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's true. Tony You can't beat them. Join 'em, which is literally what she's doing with Luke Cage. Speaker 1 True, yeah she she couldn't and this kind of goes back to to you know what I've been saying about her in the past couple of weeks, right? Like she just kind of fell into this an she she tried getting out right like she wanted to get out of, you know Cornell's business. But then diamondback showed up and said like no no that's not how this works you're you're still going to be. Speaker 1 Doing this with Maine and so then he had to convince her to. Speaker 1 To be his hook up to sell all of those hammer weapons or bullets, at least to the police. Speaker 1 And then even in this episode, she was really not anger, not happy with with diamondback, because Harmon's Paradise got all shot up, but she was yelling about it, and she doesn't want to work with diamondback anymore. And she even tries to get out, but that doesn't work out for her like she's stuck doing it. So I mean, kudos as a character. Speaker 1 Like for like making it far in you know how she has to like to survive kind of thing but. Speaker 1 I This is why it's so hard for me to see her as as a. Speaker 1 As a proper villain like yes she does a lot of bad stuff. Um, you know she. Speaker 1 Uh, you know, especially in the trying to clear her name for killing, uh, Cornell, you know bribes and that kind of stuff, right? But? Speaker 1 But it's it's weird because you know we're so used to seeing other villains like Cornell and Diamondback, and they're just like. Speaker 1 You know evil bad villains, but then you got Mariah who is just kind of trying to survive and it's a It's a very different character. Tony Yeah, I mean. Tony Unfortunately, the fight to survive kind of brings her down to the darkness. 'cause like I said at the beginning of the season, I feel like she legitimately wanted to do good for Harlem. Speaker 1 Yeah, exactly, and unfortunately she also wanted to kind of raise herself up like that status and then that just you know those two ideas kind of clashed at some point. Speaker 3 Yeah. Tony Well, the last thing we see her doing before the place is just getting shot up is she goes to um, pretty much offer a deal of Luke giving him, like exonerating him from killing Cornell and. Tony Uh, getting Carl Lucas free or like clearing Carl Lucas is name. Speaker 1 Uh, huh, yeah. Tony Still, there's the fact that even though he was innocent, he still escaped from prison, which is still illegal. Speaker 1 Yeah, unfortunately it is illegal in this country. Tony Yeah. Tony I I I feel like I said this before, was like if you escape from prison like you should just be done with it 'cause you worked so hard to escape. I feel like that was that was punishment enough. Speaker 1 Yeah, exactly, that's. Speaker 1 The only country I know where it is legal is is Mexico. I'm sure there are a lot of other ones, but really it's legal in Mexico to escape from prison. Yeah, that's that's what I read. Like I don't know, 10 years ago or something. But yeah, it's the the reasoning behind that is because as a human, you want to be free, so it's just a natural human thing that you would do. Tony I see flaws in that, but then again, I'm not in the Mexican government. Who am I to say? Speaker 1 I mean, I'm not a. Speaker 1 Uh, I. I mean I've I've never like sat down and really think of like you know pros and cons kinds of things I could understand escaping from jail being legal. However, maybe the means that you do it could be illegal, right? Like if you heard anyone on the way out, that kind of stuff like see that. Tony Yeah, but if you're you're or yourselves just left open and you just walk out. Tony Yes, not big deal. Speaker 1 Yeah, yeah, that's the guards fault. At that point. I mean, come on. Yeah, get fired. Yeah, you know, like what we saw with Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil? I mean, everything else you know, really bad all the murders but escape from prison like he was. Just let out the kingpin. Just just told me he wants to get let him go. Speaker 1 Yeah. Tony Alright, I'm good with villains unless there's anything else you want to add. Speaker 1 No, I've got nothing. Speaker 1 Alright, you're ready to to pay some bills with an ad read. Speaker 3 Sure, welcome to baskin-robbins. Would you like to try our mango fruit? Blast injuries named a flavor after me so. Stark raving hazelnuts spin. Speaker 3 For your consideration. Speaker 3 Goodyear Speaker 1 Alright so Tony IE I I I need to look for my notes. I vaguely remember this week sponsor but while I look around for the ad read, can you tell our listeners who our sponsor is this week? Tony Um yeah Buddy. 'cause I love being put on the spot like this. Tony Um, it's fan installation incorporated. Speaker 1 No, no, that can't be right. Oh hey, here it is. It's lawyers. What I mean that's right, dear listener. This week we're sponsored by our lawyers an we could never make fun of them. He's probably code MCU rewind to get one free stamp on your law punchcard? Remember that's lawyers. Speaker 1 First name law second name years. Tony Very nice. Speaker 1 Thank you. Tony Alright, moving on to the guy in the chair. I think that's what I want to do. Speaker 6 Help people. Speaker 3 Abilities. Speaker 7 No no, no no no, not those three wombats no way I. Tony Only have one guy in the chair for this episode. Speaker 1 That's good 'cause I didn't write anything down for for this. Tony Right, my guy in the chair is a Method Man. Speaker 1 Um, well now I feel bad for bringing him up earlier. Tony No, no it's not a big deal. I was going to mention him anyway, but I mean first of all, his song is actually a track he wrote for the soundtrack of Luke Cage. Tony So makes it very convenient for me to find it at the end of this sub. Tony But also I like how him on the radio it inspires other people to wear, like holey sweaters to like, distract the cops and confuse them and give Luke a better chance of. Tony A Scaping Speaker 1 Yeah, I didn't think about it from that perspective. Speaker 1 I mean, I did see that. Speaker 1 Yeah that one guy, uh. Tony Yeah, I I if it reminds me of Spartacus the old. I don't know 50s or 60s movie. If you ever saw that I never saw the movie but I've seen the scene here referring to in like a commercial. I think it was like an account with a Pepsi commercial is a Pepsi commercial Pepsi is this is a Spartacus on that and then saying I think I am Spartacus. Tony That was. Tony Really stupid, but I remembered it so it was good advertising. Speaker 1 OK, I thought it was insurance. I don't know why. Tony Yeah, but The thing is that seen people saying he's Spartacus to spark is wouldn't get executed or something like that. It's been a very long time since I've seen that I saw that in film class in my first trimester. Call is like 12 years ago, so, but yeah, it's like they wanted either kill him or arrest him or something like that. Tony But everyone was saying their Spartacus to defend themselves so like here. They're wearing those jackets to put themselves in danger to defend Luke Cage. Speaker 1 OK, yeah, it was really, um. Speaker 1 What is the you know, helping helping the community in that sense, right? 'cause you know they see Luke Cage is a good guy helping the community. And so yeah. Speaker 1 So there like helping him and that's helping each other. Speaker 1 So going back to that. Speaker 1 What has Luke done to help the community recently like? Speaker 1 I, I mean I there was literally, you know, in this episode there was stopping that robbery at the store. Tony Well, I mean he's gone like there was that whole episode where he was just literally solving people's problems. That's right. Well, which was which was caused by Cornell because Cornell was angry at Luke, right? Yeah, but still it's there. He's defending them. Yeah, that's true. OK, yeah, I mean. Tony Now, do you know that could have been three days ago or six months ago? We have no idea how time works in the show. Speaker 1 The show. Tony Yeah, but it's like. Tony The Method Man talks about this. A bulletproof black man inspires people in Harlem. Tony So they want to believe that he's a good guy and he's been framed and all this stuff. Speaker 1 Yeah, I mean he was so yeah yeah. Tony Yeah, and then I mean Method Man backs you up. He saved method man's life. Potentially, that's what another man believes. Speaker 1 Good thing a bullet didn't bounce off of him, yeah? Tony Oh, by the way, how stupid were those two muggers taking off his mask using the real names? Speaker 1 Oh so stupid. Speaker 1 Well, OK, I'm gonna give that guy. Speaker 1 I I don't want to say I'm going to. I'm not going to say I'm gonna give him points but I'm gonna say it it wasn't so bad when he took his mask off. So like. Speaker 1 Try to talk to Method Man 'cause you know it's. Speaker 1 It's not like there's a big chance of him being caught right. Like I guess we don't know where the the camera is like. I don't know where the corner of the store, if it wasn't pointed directly at him, then you know now they all they have to go off of is like an artist drawing, which those are notoriously not that accurate. Tony Yeah, this is true. Tony But still they they go like, not that mathematically, they didn't call the cops, which is fair, but even if they did like they put so much. Tony So much value into eyewitness accounts which as you know, they're not always accurate. They're usually not accurate. Yep, but that doesn't change the fact that they do it, so you'd want to keep your face covered. Speaker 1 Yeah, that's true. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, definitely a stupid move on both of their parts. Tony Alright, um yeah, that's all I have for Method Man and the guy in the chair. Speaker 1 Alright um, then yeah, I only had one thing, but we already brought that up earlier. So Yeah, Alright Tony, how do you want us to rate the episode? Speaker 6 I know my value, anyone else is pending. Doesn't really matter. Speaker 4 Earth just lost your best defender. Speaker 3 So we're here to fight. Speaker 3 Strongest Avenger Access denied. Strongest Avenger Access denied. Speaker 3 Tell me stock? Speaker 6 Banner welcome strongest Avenger. Oh what? Tony I al how many? Tony Stupid Diamondback helmets. Would you put on this up so you really hate his suit? Oh God, I do. OK so far so far I'm not gonna say forever. So far it's my least favorite, quote, Unquote comic accurate thing. OK, I'm I'm going to have to pay more attention. Speaker 1 For the next episode for the season finale right here because. Speaker 1 You see a lot more. Speaker 1 Yeah, OK, yeah I I remember like you know, seeing it for the you know 5 seconds. It was on in this episode and I remember thinking OK that looks kind of stupid but I I didn't think it was as bad as what you said. OK, well we'll see I'll I'll think about it some more. Speaker 1 Um, anyway, out of five bad suits that Diamondback is wearing um? Speaker 1 A 3 1/2 honestly like kinda exactly the same reasons I've been saying. You know, for for everything right it's very. Speaker 1 You know very story driven somethings are actually finally coming together, so that's nice, but it's not. Things aren't coming together in the sense of like. Speaker 1 Leading directly to cool final action like it does, that is what happens, but it feels a little bit more like that's just kind of how things went by chance, so it's not like excitingly coming together. So yeah, 3 1/2. Tony Yeah, well first of all I sent you a link of what his super suit looks like and I'm looking at right now. Speaker 1 And thanks for the reminder. It does look incredibly stupid. Yeah, yeah. Tony I will give this a uh, probably A3. I usually like the penultimate episodes which you know we gotta use that word because I like the build up to the final battle, but it seems like abrupt that that diamondback just bursts in. And that's essentially all the build up to the final battle. You think there'd be more hype or something. Tony Yeah, yeah yeah yeah, I mean. Tony This is another setup episode. They're just putting all the pieces in place to use. Bobby fish is. Tony Example. Tony But yeah, I I, it was alright, it wasn't bad. It wasn't great. We got the Super suit. Speaker 1 Yeah, exactly right. Speaker 1 Alright, I'm good to close it out Tony. I'm free to read whatever from that script, whatever. Right whenever you're ready. Tony So I waited a couple of minutes. Well, no, I'll just do it now. Join us next time as we cover Luke cage season one episode 13, the finale called. You know my steez, I don't know what that means and remember to follow us on Twitter and give us that rating. As always, this is the Marvel Cinematic rewind for Luke Cage Season One Episode 12. Tony So like why of chows? Signing off have a marvelous day. Speaker 7 When no one obeys the law, and then we know Iron Man, it could come and save the sole power to the people in Luke Cage the cards and the cops got him from. We don't think Cajun bar look dark hero never had. Well nobody took him up anymore and this is the last one I beg your pardon somebody put it in the past one. Speaker 7 Now we gotta hear about hiring a black one and put that whole hoodies in the past yard. We use all the fabric guys. Jelly cap done yet. I'm bout to treat the mic but we're mad dumb. Skip up my life to trade bar in the half wind chill 'cause this is bulletproof flow and you already know what the full of poop does so you can take it from a bullet.
