Announcer: Welcome to the Holistic and Scientific Podcast with board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Whitfield, Austin's natural choice for plastic surgery and the expert in smart laser and energy treatments. Dr. Robert Whitfield: We're doing this podcast to increase our visibility, awareness of our message. Right? Holistic in nature, scientific in approach. You can have a noninvasive treatment to tighten up your cheek or get rid of your double chin. You can have a smart tummy tuck instead of a tummy tuck scar. I feel like, if we can do things naturally and give you the best appearance, that's important. It goes along well with what I care and feel strongly about with your nutrition and air quality and water we drink so that we have the best results afterwards. These things coupled with our approach for both noninvasive and minimally invasive treatments gives the full spectrum that I can offer somebody that most people don't really know exists. Dr. Robert Whitfield: There's a lot of technology now. The technology of bipolar radio frequency specifically what I leverage in my office, as well as artificial intelligence. The technology that's available now in cosmetic medicine and in surgeries, it's pretty amazing. I have things you can wear, like a pair of Bose headphones on your face, and actually remodel your jawline. I can get rid of your double chin. If you want to get rid of stretch marks or unevenness of your thigh or knee or abdomen instead of a tummy tuck, I can do that for you. I can offer minimally invasive treatments to give you skin tightening results without surgery, and then of course we can provide surgery. Dr. Robert Whitfield: Many things we do now are adapted to our lifestyles. I rarely do as much surgery at the surgery center as I used to. I do my face lifts under local in the office. I do many of our cases under local in the office to provide patients with logistical challenges or concerns about help, just a way to get this done for them so they can improve an area that may have bothered them for a long period of time and they never had an option to take care of, and now they do. We can do it for them under local in the office or noninvasively in the office and get a result for them and teach them more about how to care for themselves and maintain that result over time. That's probably, when you think about it, the more rewarding aspects of what I do, if we can make that adaptation for them, and then they'll do better overall. Dr. Robert Whitfield: Each patient's a little bit different. They have a different desire, a different need, a different experience. What plan can I put together for you to give you the best outcome? Many patients say that I'm a good listener. I've found over time one of the most important things is basically to just sit back and try to understand exactly what the underlying issues are for each client and listen as closely as possible just so that you don't miss something subtle that may be a bigger component than they want to let on. Dr. Robert Whitfield: I'm going to educate you on how to eat better so that your recovery process is smoother, so that you're happier, you get a better result. We want things to be, obviously, naturally beautiful. I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada where nobody actually grows up. I started out wanting to be a heart surgeon. Volunteered in college in cardiac ICUs and watched and learned from cardiac surgeons, so I started out, that was my goal. Dr. Robert Whitfield: Through a couple different things that happened in research experience, I adapted that into microvascular surgery which led me to reconstructive plastic surgery, and I became assistant professor of plastic surgery and taught at a university, finished up as a associate, and then ultimately joined a private practice here in Austin to do microvascular, vascular reconstruction. After about five years, started my own solo practice. Dr. Robert Whitfield: That journey from Las Vegas to Indianapolis to Milwaukee to Austin has a lot packed into it. The aesthetic experience between my mentor, William Zamboni, in Las Vegas, it's all coupled together with my interest and obsession with technology delivering results that used to only be surgical to get us to this point where I now can offer noninvasive treatments.
