What I am learning from Jesus is…See people with eyes of compassion. Matthew 9:35–38 (CEB): Jesus traveled among all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, announcing the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. 36 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The size of the harvest is bigger than you can imagine, but there are few workers. 38 Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers for his harvest.” Seeing people with compassion and being open to divine conversations is the way Jesus is leading me. Jesus is teaching me to listen to people and to speak the Gospel into their lives in the midst of a simple conversation. It’s not about beating people over the head with a Bible or being obnoxious by shouting through a bullhorn the four spiritual laws. It’s about being present and having compassion on the people in your path. When we do that, we are looking a lot like Jesus and making a dent on the harvest. The little things we do every day to show compassion like Jesus are just as important as the big things we do for Jesus.
