Hello and welcome to another edition of Vinyl-O-Matic. I am Your Old Pal Will bringing you Episode 37 of Season 4, in which we continue our journey through more 45rpm a-sides that begin with the letter L. Ok, there's one a-side that is 33rpm, but still... you get the idea. Let's kick this installment off with what proved to be one of the big European hits for Sonny & Cher. All right. Turns out Your Old Pal Will has goofed again, confusing the a-side with the b-side. Nevertheless we just heard from Clarence "Frogman" Henry with what I thought was the super catchy a-side of "Little Suzy" and the flipside of "You Only Hurt the Ones You Love", a song made famous by The Mills Brothers. That release is on Argo records from 1961. Alas, "Little Suzy" is actually the b-side, but it's still a killer track. Prior to that we heard the Mediterranean-influenced "Little Man" from Sonny & Cher from the year 1966 on ATCO records, as well as the b-side "Monday". "Little Man" was a huge hit in Europe but failed to perform as well here on this side of the Atlantic. Next up, we have one of the gold standards by which glam rock singles are judged. Welcome back to Vinyl-O-Matic. Casting your minds back, you will recall that we got that set started off with The Sweet and their 1972 smash hit "Little Willy" and a tune called "Man from Mecca" on the other side. That release is on Bell Records. We followed that up with the Bay Area's own Future Twin and a song about some badass motorbike ladies called "Lockits" and the flipside "Badseed". That is a release from 2012. Shout out to Jean if she's out there in listener land. Before we continue with the music, you know that KWTF is non-profit community radio station but did you also know that we are an all-volunteer organization? It's true. We could very much use your support whether it be through time or money. For more information about how you can help, visit kwtf(dot)net. Let us continue with the music. Next up we have the awesome noise duo from New York, Talk Normal. Well that b-side wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be based on the title. We just heard from Detroit-area blue-eyed soulsters The Shades of Blue with their hit Edwin Starr-penned single "Lonely Summer" and the b-side "With This Ring". That is on Impact Records from 1966. Prior to that we heard Sarah Register and Andrya Ambro aka Talk Normal bringing us the songs "Lone General" and "Hurricane". That was relased on M'Ladys records in 2011 and the sleeve features artwork from a painting by Kim Gordon. Moving into our final set of the show, let's take a journey over to town we all know well. Well there we go. We started things off with 18 year old Ricky Nelson accompanied by The Jordanaires with "Lonesome Town" backed with "I Got A Feeling" from the year 1958. We also heard from former Torontonians/current Berliners Nadja with a cover a song from the 1996 Kids in the Hall film Brain Candy entitled "Long Dark Twenties". That release is on lovely transluscent orange vinyl from Anthem Records circa 2008. This concludes our seven inch sojourn for the week.
