O hai it's me Your Old Pal Will bringing you yet another episode of Vinyl-O-Matic. We are travelling through singles beginning with the letter N as in November. Let's get this show started off with one for all you working stiffs. All right, we got that set started us off with the mighty mighty Dolly Parton and her title song for the film 9 to 5 from 1980. With this song Dolly was only the second female country artist to reach number one on both the country and Hot 100 charts, the first being Jeannie C Riley for "Harper Valley PTA". And if you haven't seen the film 9 to 5, check it out... it's just as relevant today as it was 39 years ago (sadly). We followed that up with Cliff Jackson and the Naturals with their rendition of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Nine Below Zero". Next up, let's shed a tear or several tears as the case may be. Hi, welcome back to Vinyl-O-Matic. I am your old pal will. We just heard from Nena and the Cold War classic "99 Luftballons" and the slightly less good English version. That is on Epic Records from the year 1983. That was preceded by Question Mark and the Mysterians and the Vox Contintental rocker "96 Tears" backed with "Midnight Hour". That was released in 1966 on Cameo Records. Before we continue with the music, let me remind you that KWTF is a non profit listener supported community radio station and is completely supported by listeners just like yourselves. Please take a moment to visit KWTF(dot)net(slash)donate and help us out with whatever amount you can. Every dollar goes a very long way for us. Moving things right along, we have an exemplary Apple Records single that isn't by The Beatles. Right on... if you cast your minds back you will recall that we opened that last set off with Badfinger and their hit single "No Matter What" with the superb stereo guitars and fantastic rotovibe effect. The flipside was another movie theme song, this time for The Magic Christian from 1970. Evidently, Def Leppard covered "No Matter What", but I cannot give you an opinion on that version as I have now interest in listening to it. That was followed up with a split of sorts from Polyvinyl Records. The a-side is David Bazan singing his own lyrics to Deerhoof's backing track of "No One Asked to Dance", in this case "No One Asked Bazan to Dance". The b-side is a live David Bazan track called "Gas and Matches". Do not try this at home kids. This a lovely translucent blue vinyl release from 2012. And now, did you know that life's a risk? On Mom+Pop records from 2012 that was FIDLAR starting that last set off with the a-side of "No Waves" and the b-side of "No Ass". A sad situation I suppose. But don't we all want a perfect left and a sunset shore? We rounded things off with White on the Moon UK and their fun trippy release on Isota Records from 2002. That a-side consisted of "noam chomsky spring break" and "forty dollar rug", backed with "flippin bump with goldie" and "sailing by night". A pretty fun project from Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear.
