Hello, and welcome to another episode of Vinyl-O-Matic. I am Your Old Pal Will, and once again, we embark upon a journey through singles with A sides beginning with the letter Y as in Yankee. Those of you wishing to play along at home can follow the show notes at vinylomatic(dot)com(slash)s04e72. Do you like cats? I like cats. How about a whole year of cats? We just heard the snappy sounds of Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames bringing us their 1965 single "Yeh, Yeh" backed with "Preach and Teach" on Imperial Records. "Yeh, Yeh" was originally penned as an instrumental and first recorded by Cuban musician Mongo Santamaria in 1963. Shortly thereafter, Jon Hendricks of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross added lyrics. And soon after that, the talented Mr. Fame recorded this super catchy version. At the top of that last set, we had Scotsman Al Stewart and his Alan Parsons-produced smash hit "Year of the Cat" along with the b-side "Broadway Hotel". This single was released on Janus Records in 1976. Fun fact: Janus Records was started initially as the American extension of England's Pye Records. Throughout this current season of Vinyl-O-Matic, we've heard a number of releases from the Isota Records singles club. Well, here is the very first record in that catalog. Welcome back to Vinyl-O-Matic. If you cast your minds back to the top of that last set, you will recall that we got things started off with Birds of America bringing us "Yes! I Know I Am Free" and the flipside "Untitled". As I mentioned, this is Isota Records sody001, released in 2001. As with all Isota Records singles, the sleeve is a terrific letterpress work by Birds of America's Nathaniel Russell printed at Berkeley's Kala Art Institute. We followed that up with an MCA Double Play! That's right, two hit Loretta Lynn singles on one 7 inch record. The a-side was her 1966 "You Ain't Woman Enough (to Take My Man)", her eighth single to make it into the top 10. The flipside features her 1971 single "You're Lookin' at Country" which made it to number 5 on the country charts. Next up, we have a sunny single from across the Pacific. Now that is a classic Shimmy Disc single from 1988 featuring the illustrious Bongwater, featuring Ann Magnuson, Dave Rick & Kramer. We had a Roky Erikson number on the a-side, "You Don't Love Me Yet", and of course, the fantastic Goffin-King-by-way-of-The-Monkees b-side, "The Porpoise Song". This was preceded by Jun Mayuzumi. The a-side translates as "You and the Sun" from "Fushiga Taiyou", although loyal Vinyl-O-Matic listener Trane points out that the transliteration would be "Strange Sun". And we had "My Love, My Love" on the other side. This is a Capitol Records release from 1969. And now, have you had your well checked recently? That was a smoking single to be sure from Etta James. We heard her 1968 Cadet single "You Got It" backed with "Fire". This was her follow up to her rendition of "I Got You". Somehow it only made it as high as 113 on the charts. I guess there must have been a fair amount of competition? It seems a shame. And we got that set started off with the late, great Harry Dean Stanton joined by friends Jamie James, Skunk Baxter, Slim Jim Phantom, and Tony Sales. That Rx Remedy Records release from 1993 featured William Bell's Stax classic "You Don't Miss Your Water", which was followed up by the b-side "Across the Borderline".
