Hello and welcome to another episode of Vinyl-O-Matic. I am your old pal Will and this time we continue our journey through singles with a-sides that begin with L, and we actually make it into singles with a-side that begin with the letter M. I'm sure you're finding it hard to contain your excitement so let us get things started off with a Kill Rock Stars 7" singles club release from 1999. Welcome back. How are you feeling? Did you have a good trip? Can I get you a beer to ease you back down? We just heard from NYC noise rockers Reverb MotherEffers and their single LSD 25 from 1991. I used to see these guys play quite a bit in the East Village many moons ago and oddly enough I came across this 7" just a week or two ago all the way out here in Santa Rosa at The Last Record Store. Prior to that we heard from Kill Rock Stars Mailorder Freaks August 1999 single featuring Jason Traeger. The a-side was "Love, Love and Love" along with "We Can't Avoid Dying". If that last set was too intense for you, perhaps the warm ooey gooey guitar tone of Mr. Waylon Jennings can help bring you back down. O hai, it's me Your Old Pal Will. We got that set started off with the Waylon Jennings smash hit "Lukenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)" and the b-side "Belle of the Ball". That is from 1977 on RCA Records. Evidently Waylon was not really a fan of the song when it was presented to him and like the writers of the song had never been to Lukenbach Texas, but he definitely heard the hit potential. We followed that up with my second favorite Madonna single "Lucky Star" from 1983. That was the fourth of five singles released from her self-titled debut album. Before we continue with the music, let me remind you that KWTF is a listener supported all-volunteer non-profit radio station. Just to keep the lights on and a roof over our board, we greatly rely on listeners just like you! Please consider donating $5, $10, heck even $25 a month so we can continue to bring you quality freeform radio. Visit KWTF(dot)net for more information about how you can help. Up next, an a-side disguised as a book report and a b-side disguised as a Janet Jackson hit. Yup, we got all classic rock there for a few minutes. We just heard from Steppenwolf and their song "Magic Carpet Ride" backed with "Sookie Sookie" on Dunhill ABC Records from 1968. Before that we heard Madison Wisconsin's own Killdozer with their ode to Flannery O'Connor entitled "Lupus" and their entertaining take on Janet Jackson's "Nasty". That single is out on Touch and Go Records of course (T&G#44 for those of you playing along at home), from 1989. Let's head out to the country now with Neko Case and The Sadies. Ahh... you know what, we _are_ going to make it afterall. We just heard from Hüsker Dü and their 1985 SST release "Makes No Sense at All" and the wonderful flipside cover of "Love Is All Around" aka the Mary Tyler Moore theme song. Prior to that we heard the 1998 Bloodshot Records split with Neko Case accompanied by The Sadies bringing us the murder ballad "Make Your Bed", and The Sadies all by themselves on the b-side with "Gunspeak" and "Little Sadie". I hope you enjoyed this episode of Vinyl-O-Matic. As always, if you have any questions about what you have heard or just want to say howdy, shoot an email to will(at)vinylomatic(dot)com.
