Hello and welcome to Vinyl-O-Matic, Season 4, Episode 35 for those of you playing along at home. I am Your Old Pal Will. This week we continue our journey through singles that begin with the letter L. We start things of with a little something from the amazing Polly Jean Harvey. Heck yeah. That was another Nuggets classic from Minneapolis' own The Castaways. I am talking about of course "Liar, Liar" on Soma Records from 1965. We also heard the b-side of "Sam". For those of you who are curious as to what The Castaways were like, check out their appearance in the 1967 film "It's a Bikini World", especially if you're a fan of API beach shenanigan films. And we got the show started of with PJ Harvey's 2004 single "The Letter", along with the b-side of "Bows and Arrows" from her album _Uh Huh Her_. Like her 4-Track Demos release, she plays all instruments except the final drum mix, and she was the engineer, mixer and producer. Coming up next, a classic movie theme song that actually doesn't appear in the movie at all, not even the credits. Welcome back to Vinyl-O-Matic here on the Fun 88 point 1 KWTF. I am Your Old Pal Will. If you cast your minds back all the way to the beginning of that set, you will recall that we heard from Gene Pitney and "(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance" with some snazzy drumming and tic tac bass and penned by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, along with the B-side of a Leiber and Stoller tune "Take It Like a Man". That is on Musicor from the year 1962. If you're partial to classic Westerns and haven't seen The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, I can certainly recommend it. Besides an excellent menacing performance from Lee Marvin, the are themes of freedom of press and veil between fact and history. We also heard from Dick & Dee Dee. While the a-side "Life's Just a Play" is a bit meh, that b-side "All I Want" is pretty fine. That is also from the year 1962 on Liberty Records. And of course we rounded out that set off with crazy Joe Walsh's ode to the 70s rock and roll lifestyle "Life's Been Good", along with the instrumental "Theme from Boat Weirdos" on the flipside. That reached the #12 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1978. Anc here's a fun fact for you audio enthusiasts: Joe Walsh's publishing company is called Wow and Flutter. Before we continue with the music, let me remind you that KWTF is an all-volunteer non-profit organization and we primarily supported by listeners like yourselves. All right, we just heard from The Capsules with their 2004 Isota Records singles club release (on beautiful transluscent orange vinyl I might add) "Light the Path" and "It Hangs Over Me". Prior to that we heard Los Campesinos! with a-side of "Light Leaves, Dark Sees" and the double-a-side "Four Seasons". That was the first issue of their 4 issue magazine series Heat Rash that is also accompanied by a 7" x 7" zine featuring band writings and artwork. So fine. Next up, we're going to close things out with a 7" release from 2014 by Nadja featuring not 1, not 2 but 6 whole and (unusually for Nadja) brief songs. Crank it up! Yes indeed, that was the Nadja release entitled _Tangled_. On the a-side we heard "Like a Hand on Your Brain", "I Don't Mind if Your Hands Are Cold", and "Corrupting Host to Appease the Parasite". On the b-side we heard "Freedom from Death Machines", "Caught", and "The Smell of Bastards". That is released on Broken Spine, as are most Nadja efforts. That about wraps it up for this week.
