Daniel [GM] (00:00:30): Welcome to Explorers Wanted. We are a weekly Numenera Actual Play podcast. I will be your humble GM, Daniel Andrlik. With me today is Marietta Jones. Marietta [Atalia] (00:00:43): Good evening, everyone, who's here listening to us. Daniel [GM] (00:00:50): Alex Finn. Alex [ChaCha] (00:00:51): Hello, my lovelies. Daniel [GM] (00:00:53): Sampson Davis. Sampson [Dili] (00:00:54): We needed to normalize a week-long fall break to complement spring break because I am dying. Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:00): That's what Thanksgiving's for, obviously. Clearly it's equivalent. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:05): And Stace Babcock. Stace [Nix] (00:01:06): Maybe they would give you a break, Sampson, if you helped with the harvest. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:11): We do pigs here, you know? Also pigs are in the Northeast? Northwest... Daniel [GM] (00:01:15): Mm-mm (negative). Sampson [Dili] (00:01:17): I'm in this middle. Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:18): Do you mean us? Iowa land? Sampson [Dili] (00:01:21): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:21): Okay. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:21): Yeah, that's where Ames is. Stace [Nix] (00:01:26): [crosstalk 00:01:26] Iowa land which encompasses Nebraska, Iowa, that other square state... Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:33): That's kind of what I was meaning with that statement. It's kind of all, even Eastern Colorado, mostly, let's be real. It's just kind of, yeah... Daniel [GM] (00:01:43): Who remembers what happened last time? I am going to pick on Stace. Stace [Nix] (00:01:50): Hell yeah! So last time on Explorers Wanted, nobody disguised themselves and went down to breakfast at the Dockside Hotel. It's accurate, Sampson. Sampson [Dili] (00:02:02): Yeah. [crosstalk 00:02:05] Kind of missing some context there, Nix, in your morning runs. Stace [Nix] (00:02:08): I said nobody disguised themselves, that seems accurate. Lo and behold, there was a wanted poster for the gang, for ChaCha and Nix, specifically, behind the bar and the bartender's a narc, alerted the guard who showed up. Stace [Nix] (00:02:22): And... I'm not going to look at you guys while I do this. Your facial expressions... Sampson [Dili] (00:02:28): Look at your notes. Stace [Nix] (00:02:30): I am looking at them. They're half a post-it note. I don't know what you want! Stace [Nix] (00:02:35): The party goes outside, encounters six city guards who are like, "Hey, you're the people from the posters!" And ChaCha's like "Attack!" And Nix is like, "No!" And takes the attack, and takes a ray gun projectile to the back. Stace [Nix] (00:02:50): Atalia, noticing nothing, attacks, with Onslaught. I think it was Onslaught. Or was it Flash? Daniel [GM] (00:02:56): Flash. Stace [Nix] (00:02:57): Flash. Sampson [Dili] (00:02:58): Aha! Stace [Nix] (00:02:58): Dili threw down some illusory shit to make the crew look like vaguely recognizable versions of themselves. Daniel [GM] (00:03:12): Stunt doubles, yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:03:14): Yeah. Stunt doubles. Stunt doubles. And Nix throws down the temporal mine to freeze the guards in place. I apparently made up that the mine lasts for four hours? It lasts for eight. So... But they're stuck there. Marietta [Atalia] (00:03:28): For eight hours? Stace [Nix] (00:03:29): Not aging, can't be damaged, they're fine. We run away and decide to go shopping. Stace [Nix] (00:03:35): And while shopping Nix got a sweet new outfit, Dili did something and ChaCha bought a nuke! Daniel [GM] (00:03:42): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Stace [Nix] (00:03:43): Doomsday device, which can obliterate everything within a mile and turn it into ash. Daniel [GM] (00:03:49): Yeah. Cha-cha is a nuclear power, now. Stace [Nix] (00:03:52): ChaCha is a nuclear power. Alex [ChaCha] (00:03:54): Which one? Stace [Nix] (00:03:54): We're not going to speculate. And Atalia got a really cool [crosstalk 00:04:00] time reset thing that can undo the previous five minutes. She gave lie-eater to Nix who is going to use it soon, just because... Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:04:10): Did anything else happen while we were shopping? Hang on. Atalia is now specialized in understanding Numenera. Marietta [Atalia] (00:04:18): Yes. Thank you, thank you. Stace [Nix] (00:04:19): And then there was a brief consideration of planting insignias or making illusions of Qi assassins to distract the queen and make her more paranoid about Qi than Nix's parents. There was no follow through on that. Stace [Nix] (00:04:36): And then Atalia reaches into her pocket. It's a note, pulls it out. It's from her mom. And it says, "Meet me at G-Ma's tonight." Marietta [Atalia] (00:04:46): "We need to talk." Stace [Nix] (00:04:47): "We need to talk." Marietta [Atalia] (00:04:49): "Love, mom." Stace [Nix] (00:04:50): Is that really what it said? Marietta [Atalia] (00:04:51): Heart, heart, X, X, O, X. Stace [Nix] (00:04:54): Okay, I get that this is a fantasy game... Daniel [GM] (00:04:59): Bam. Stace [Nix] (00:05:01): Your mom is great. Tell her to I miss her, okay? Daniel [GM] (00:05:04): And it's at this moment, ChaCha, that you notice a small figure staring at you, from down the alley. The figure appears to be somewhat translucent. Daniel [GM] (00:05:19): They look like they could be, maybe, an eight-year-old boy with the exception of that where that boy's eyes would be, there are instead black pits from which emits a strange purple vapor. Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:35): It's the season. Daniel [GM] (00:05:37): And that kid looks at you, raises his fingers to his lips in a shushing expression and then crooks his finger at you to follow. Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:49): Oh, ChaCha's going to follow it because clearly, clearly this is ChaCha's jam. Daniel [GM] (00:05:55): Mm-hmm (affirmative). It's a horror and it's a kid! Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:57): I know it's just like it was built for ChaCha! Daniel [GM] (00:06:00): Mm-hmm (affirmative). So the kid leads you into the hustle and bustle of the street. You're able to keep up with them, no problem. Which is interesting because you know, you're both much, much shorter than everyone else around. You're just weaving between people and you guys are already here in the academic ward and the kid leads you along the street. Daniel [GM] (00:06:29): He hops around a cog courier that is wandering down the street, picking things up. And it doesn't take long before you start seeing familiar parts of this neighborhood and the kid ducks into an alley and goes into a door that seems to be just hanging on its hinges. Daniel [GM] (00:06:54): And it's a door that you know very well because it's a door you once re-keyed the locks to. Alex [ChaCha] (00:07:01): Oh no! Daniel [GM] (00:07:02): For Pollis's shop. Alex [ChaCha] (00:07:04): Awkward! And side note, it's actually super easy for a shorter person to weave through crowds. Daniel [GM] (00:07:10): Yeah. Alex [ChaCha] (00:07:11): I do it frequently and it pisses people off. I think ChaCha's going to approach, but not as gung-ho, running into it, like she did with her special little friend, blob, but kind of making sure no one's waiting for her. Daniel [GM] (00:07:35): Okay. So are you trying to sneak up, or are you just trying to peer in first? Alex [ChaCha] (00:07:41): I think both. Daniel [GM] (00:07:42): Or both. Okay. So let's start with a stealth roll of... Daniel [GM] (00:07:49): See, the kid is leading you there, so if there's anybody in there, they would already know something's going on. So it's probably a stealth roll of 18 to start. And then if you've got any skills or effort you want to spend... Alex [ChaCha] (00:08:02): I don't think any of those skills apply because I don't think Cirque du Soleil would apply, unless... No it won't. Alex [ChaCha] (00:08:12): I can't think of a good perception-based thing for Cirque du Soleil. And it's just a speed roll? Daniel [GM] (00:08:17): Right. Well, right now it's stealth. This is stealth, so it's speed. Alex [ChaCha] (00:08:18): I'm just going to roll it because it's funnier this way, because ChaCha, surprisingly, doesn't have a good speed roll. Daniel [GM] (00:08:21): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Okay. Alex [ChaCha] (00:08:28): I got a 10. Daniel [GM] (00:08:34): Okay. Yeah, so you creep your way up there and you think you're being pretty quiet. I mean, if there's one thing from performing and from running and things like that, you know how to be light on your feet. Daniel [GM] (00:08:46): It's just that you suspect that if there's anybody in there, they know you're coming because you do hear a deep resonant voice from inside. Daniel [GM] (00:08:55): Sounds a lot like Bodica, saying, "ChaCha, no need to be coy. You can come inside." Alex [ChaCha] (00:09:01): Oh no!. ChaCha does not say that. I guess ChaCha gives up the act of being quiet and just walks inside. Daniel [GM] (00:09:12): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Okay. You come in and you see that eight-year-old, or apparent eight-year-old kid is now sitting up on one of the counters in the back of the workshop area. Daniel [GM] (00:09:25): The living area is pretty much undisturbed, right now. But in that workshop area where you guys initially subdued the snake, the kid is sitting up on a counter and kind of kicking his feet back and forth. Daniel [GM] (00:09:39): And Bodica is standing there, basically in the center of the room, the way he always is, in his ebon and flame. Daniel [GM] (00:09:50): Atalia, you have just found this note in your pocket from your mother that says, "Meet me at G-Ma's house, tonight." Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:01): I think... Where are we right now? Daniel [GM] (00:10:03): I think you're just in an alley, somewhere, after shopping. You ducked over somewhere to talk Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:09): You guys. Look what I found in my pocket. Sampson [Dili] (00:10:12): What's that? Stace [Nix] (00:10:13): Paper, Atalia? Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:16): Yeah, and do you want to read what's on the paper? Sampson [Dili] (00:10:19): Okay. Read noise, read noise. Holy shit! Stace [Nix] (00:10:27): Oh, your mom? Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:29): Yeah, remember her? Me neither, I don't. Stace [Nix] (00:10:37): But, like, canon Nix never met... Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:39): No. Stace [Nix] (00:10:39): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:40): No. Sampson [Dili] (00:10:41): How did she get that into your pocket? I'm fairly certain- Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:45): How did my grandmother escape a bunch of handlers trying to knife her? Sampson [Dili] (00:10:50): No, I know, but I had us all disguised. Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:53): Also when did this... This could have been in my pocket that whole time. Stace [Nix] (00:10:57): Yeah, although, didn't that crab king say that your mom was waiting for you in Shallamas? Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:02): Yeah, I think that was just a weird experience. And I need to not talk to people who say they know me, because they probably know her, and apparently she just wants to kill everyone. Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:14): Also, I don't know if you guys remember, but we recently found out that Tamara was my mom's BFF, and incidentally, she's no longer alive. And that's a direct result of me, actually. Stace [Nix] (00:11:25): [crosstalk 00:11:25] Well, Atalia... Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:26): We can discuss that further, but it's definitely my fault. So I just can't imagine that it's going to be a great conversation. And we have another meeting tonight. Stace [Nix] (00:11:34): So Atalia, in all fairness, I could have not killed her. Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:38): We didn't know! She was never like, "I actually have your best interests at heart." Stace [Nix] (00:11:43): Oh no. I'm not saying we did the wrong thing, but I'm just saying give me a little credit, okay? Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:48): I'm not mad about it... I'm just, okay, yes, I guess you did the killing aspect, but... Stace [Nix] (00:11:53): Thank you. Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:55): It's my mother. Will she see it that way or will she'll just be like, "It's always Atalia's fault." Stace [Nix] (00:12:00): I have no idea, dude, I've never met your mom. Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:02): She's not my grandmother. Minimally. Stace [Nix] (00:12:06): That may or may not be true, dude. Sampson [Dili] (00:12:09): That... That is a fact, Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:12): I'm just saying why hang out with mom when you could hang out with grandma? Daniel [GM] (00:12:16): Dili, as they're talking about this, you notice that you have lost track of ChaCha, and when you turn to look around, you see what you think is a flash of a red cape moving amongst the throng of the streets. Sampson [Dili] (00:12:32): Oh. Hey guys, ChaCha just kind of... Well, she's not here and left that way. And I point [inaudible 00:12:39]. Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:39): Did she say anything? Sampson [Dili] (00:12:41): All I saw was her cape just fucking vanish. I think, make sure disguise is up Dili will go to the end of the alleyway and try to see where she's going. Daniel [GM] (00:12:53): It's hard to see her in this crowd, because she's so much shorter than everybody else. Sampson [Dili] (00:12:57): And I'm just not as short. Damn it. Daniel [GM] (00:12:59): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Sampson [Dili] (00:13:00): Yep. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:01): I did not see where she went. I was too busy looking at the stupid note. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:06): Should we be worried? Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:08): Maybe, but also it felt like ChaCha had some soul searching to do, still. And maybe we... I don't know. I don't know! Stace [Nix] (00:13:17): Oh, you know what we could do. We could ask Mamma J to look in her fire. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:22): Yeah. I'm sure that fire looks at everyone. Do you think it looks at everyone? Or does it have to be, do you think they have to be like... Stace [Nix] (00:13:28): No, Atalia, I think it looks at whoever Mamma J wants it to look at. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:32): So you don't think they have to be like magically tied to the fire? Okay. Well, we'll see. Stace [Nix] (00:13:38): I don't know what magic is, Atalia. Daniel [GM] (00:13:38): And they just have to be in the bathroom so that she can see it through her hidden cameras throughout the city. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:44): She's got to pee sometime. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:46): What time of day is it? Daniel [GM] (00:13:47): Late morning. Stace [Nix] (00:13:48): We did brunch. We shopped. For a refresher, Nix is wearing a denim jacket and 90s windbreaker pants. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:55): Oh, Dili's also wearing new duds. It's more outdoorsy, sturdy stuff. Without holes in it. Daniel [GM] (00:14:01): But you guys are all still disguised, right? Sampson [Dili] (00:14:04): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:04): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:14:05): Except for ChaCha, who's now out of your range. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:08): Without the disguise, Atalia wearing the same outfit. Sampson [Dili] (00:14:12): Oh, do you not want the disguise, Atalia? Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:13): No I want the disguise. [crosstalk 00:14:15] Stace [Nix] (00:14:14): Didn't we decide that Atalia's disguise is just Atalia with her hood up? Sampson [Dili] (00:14:18): The Fucking Marvel disguise. Captain- Daniel [GM] (00:14:20): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:21): No one will recognize me, [crosstalk 00:14:23] obviously. Daniel [GM] (00:14:25): Yeah. Her hood is up and her hair is blonde. Those are the only two changes. And the hood covers up the fake, blonde hair. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:30): Amazing, I love it. Like real life. Stace [Nix] (00:14:33): But Atalia is the only one not publicly wanted, so... Daniel [GM] (00:14:36): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:37): Nobody wants me! Until now. What the fuck, guys? Stace [Nix] (00:14:41): I'm here to help you work through whatever this is. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:44): I don't really want to go meet my mom. That seems like a horrible idea. "Yes, let's go meet my mother at a predetermined place and location in which she will have the advantage." And I just can't imagine she's very happy with me right now. Stace [Nix] (00:14:58): Why? Like you haven't seen her in a decade. I don't know how I know that, it's just instinct, man. Sampson [Dili] (00:15:05): Just the vibe you give off. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:07): I might even be longer than that. Stace [Nix] (00:15:08): Since I met you, dude. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:09): Yeah. [inaudible 00:15:11] twelve... Yeah, just a little over a decade, now. Stace [Nix] (00:15:13): You keep track of time? Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:15): Sometimes. I try not to think about it because I feel like focusing on the negative aspects of our life isn't really beneficial, but this is a negative aspect of my life I really want to resolve. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:26): I just want to live my life without her. Stace [Nix] (00:15:29): Okay. Then live your life without her, dude. Let's not go to G-Ma's, let's just go to Mamma J's. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:33): Yeah, exactly. My mom really wants to talk to me, clearly, she can find me. Stace [Nix] (00:15:38): Okay, but I had an idea. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:40): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:15:40): All right. And at this point, I spend four XP and advance Nix and add four points to her intelligence pool. Daniel [GM] (00:15:50): Mm-hmm (affirmative), okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:50): Because you've been hanging out with Atalia. Sampson [Dili] (00:15:52): Nix what's that blood vessel? Just kind of popped out of your temple. Stace [Nix] (00:15:56): That's my thinking blood vessel, Dili! It increases blood flow to my brain. And I know that now. Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:02): Is that a human thing? Or an ab-human thing. Stace [Nix] (00:16:07): Atalia, you seem really calm. [inaudible 00:16:09] So I was thinking, you know about the Qi assassins and distracting the queen. What if we distracted her with something only my parents could help with? Stace [Nix] (00:16:21): So I think we need to go back to the house and see if my mom's calendar is there. Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:28): What if we tell the queen is that my mom is a Qi assassin? Stace [Nix] (00:16:31): How are we going to tell the queen that? Atalia, think, think! Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:35): Right, okay, sorry. Sampson [Dili] (00:16:36): Don't work the blood vessel too hard. Sampson [Dili] (00:16:37): Okay. What do your parents do? What does your mom do? Stace [Nix] (00:16:44): Oh yeah. She works near the palace. She's always talking about other countries and stuff. She writes a lot. Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:55): Letters or books? Sampson [Dili] (00:16:57): Nix, do you not know what your mom does? Stace [Nix] (00:16:59): No, she works for the queen. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:02): What specific task? Stace [Nix] (00:17:04): Policy? Sampson [Dili] (00:17:05): About? Stace [Nix] (00:17:07): Other countries, Dili. I feel like I said all this. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:12): So [crosstalk 00:17:12] very vague. Is she a diplomat? Is she an ambassador? Stace [Nix] (00:17:16): No, she's not an ambassador. She gives the ambassadors information and stuff. And, well, she used to give the queen information. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:25): That's cool. Wait, your mom's a spy? Stace [Nix] (00:17:28): No! Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:29): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:17:31): My mom works in an office. She writes papers, Atalia, Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:34): Right. Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:17:36): I feel like I'm confused. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:37): I feel like none of us have enough information. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:40): What's your dad do? Stace [Nix] (00:17:41): He works for the city. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:43): Doing? Stace [Nix] (00:17:45): City administration. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:46): So how would either of them know about Qi assassins, is what we're trying to get to. Stace [Nix] (00:17:52): Oh, I'm sure my mom knows all about Qi. She was really good at her job. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:56): So what do you think we can convince the queen that she only needs your parents for, besides like, "Hey, we misplaced the document somewhere." What do we do? Stace [Nix] (00:18:05): I don't know yet. That's why I want to go back and actually look at their papers. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:09): You want to go back to... let's go back to your house. Let's go do that right now. Stace [Nix] (00:18:11): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:12): Yeah, let's go. Stace [Nix] (00:18:13): Atalia, I think you should go in, because you're the sneaky one. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:15): Okay, I'll break into your house for you. Sampson [Dili] (00:18:30): That was quite the mood change! Stace [Nix] (00:18:30): Oh, thanks, Atalia! Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:31): Yeah. Should we go do that now? Stace [Nix] (00:18:32): Yeah, fuck it. Or we could go to my dad's office. But I don't know if they would have took his stuff or not. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:38): Probably, at this point, and also it might not be great to wander into your dad's office in the middle of working hours. Stace [Nix] (00:18:44): Oh, it is working hours. Daniel [GM] (00:18:45): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Stace [Nix] (00:18:46): So smart, Atalia. Go to the house. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:48): Yeah, let's be sneaky about it, though. Daniel [GM] (00:18:50): Okay. So you guys head to Nix's house. Sampson [Dili] (00:18:53): Disguised. [Crosstalk 00:00:18:55]. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:56): Yes. I want to take us on a sneaky route. If possible. Daniel [GM] (00:19:00): Okay, so give me a stealth roll of nine. With your specialization, that'll be a three. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:08): That's a six there! Daniel [GM] (00:19:10): Okay. You find a nondescript way to get them back to the house. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:15): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:19:16): How do you plan on entering the house? It is the middle of the day. Stace [Nix] (00:19:20): Dili, can you cast an illusion that looks like the front of the house? Sampson [Dili] (00:19:24): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:19:25): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:26): But is there a way to get into the illusion without being seen? Daniel [GM] (00:19:31): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:32): Okay, I'm going to move into it then. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:35): I can also disguise us as city guards, just coming here for like city guard stuff. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:40): Or Queen's guards, probably. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:43): Queen's guards? City guards? Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:44): Yeah, yeah, sure. Let's do that. I like that option. Daniel [GM] (00:19:50): Okay. Dili, probably cost you more intellect points, but you can do that that way. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:55): We can take a quick breather when we get in right? Just quick... Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:58): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:19:59): So Atalia, done this a couple of times now. So you don't have any problem opening the lock, and yeah, you guys are now inside the house. What would you like to do? Marietta [Atalia] (00:20:09): Where does your mom keep her letters? Remember, they've already searched through here, too. So... Stace [Nix] (00:20:14): Yeah, I just want to look through the papers, and I imagine maybe during her ailment, she would still do some sort of work or at least had for awhile, maybe from home. So just see if there's anything left of that. Daniel [GM] (00:20:29): Not much. And most of the work is from at least a few months ago. Most of the stuff that she has at home is pretty benign reports on trade routes and things like that, that are happening. Daniel [GM] (00:20:45): You, Nix, probably have the impression that your mom probably dealt with more sensitive stuff. It's probably just not the kind of thing that she brought home Stace [Nix] (00:20:54): Nix will take it all. And then any contact books, I guess, even if it's her parents' friends, instead of their coworkers. Daniel [GM] (00:21:02): Okay. Yeah. There's a few, there's a small book of names, there. Nothing fancy. Stace [Nix] (00:21:09): I can't believe I didn't think of this last time, you guys. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:12): Wow, that's like an address book. Stace [Nix] (00:21:14): A what book? Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:15): It's totally like a Third World... Stace [Nix] (00:21:19): We're actually in the Eleventh World. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:20): Yeah, I'm saying it's like really old Numenera. Stace [Nix] (00:21:24): Oh, gotcha. Sampson [Dili] (00:21:26): Is it like a PDA? Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:26): Yeah, like email, or... Daniel [GM] (00:21:26): Atalia, you feel like a weird thrumming from your bag. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:34): I investigate the thrumming in my bag. Daniel [GM] (00:21:37): It is the plate. The plate seems to be glowing and vibrating faintly in a strange pattern. And it seems like the glow is growing and then it suddenly dims and stops. Like somebody flipped off a switch. Sampson [Dili] (00:21:50): How you doing over there? Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:52): Yeah, that was fucking weird. Can I, understanding Numenera, to see what happened to that, maybe? Daniel [GM] (00:22:00): You can try. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:01): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:22:02): It is a 21. Understanding Numenera roll. You are specialized. So it makes it a 15. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:08): Then I'll spend two levels of effort. Daniel [GM] (00:22:11): Okay, so that brings it down to a nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:13): I would also like to just have a friendly reminder that I'm a superb infiltrator, and sometimes I can tinker to make devices work for me. Daniel [GM] (00:22:22): Are you going to try to tinker with the plate? Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:24): Maybe not. Okay. Let's just understand it, that's fine. That's a three. So... Daniel [GM] (00:22:30): Yeah. You're not sure. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:32): It's really annoying. Daniel [GM] (00:22:33): It's weird. Didn't do that before. But you're not sure. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:38): Guys, this is really not my specialty. I don't know, something definitely happened. Sampson [Dili] (00:22:43): Isn't it entirely... Aren't you specialized? Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:46): Not in fucking whatever order the... Sampson [Dili] (00:22:50): BTS. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:50): Yeah, yeah. Benevolent Traveler Society. [crosstalk 00:22:54]. Sampson [Dili] (00:22:54): Sorry, BST. Stace [Nix] (00:22:57): BSOT is what we like to call it, when we shorten it, Dili. Sampson [Dili] (00:23:00): SOT? Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:00): BSOT? Stace [Nix] (00:23:03): [crosstalk 00:23:03] Benevolent Society- Stace [Nix] (00:23:03): ... Dili? Sampson [Dili] (00:23:03): SOT? Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:03): SOT? Sampson [Dili] (00:23:03): Oh, yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:23:03): Society of Travelers, it's basic vows Daniel [GM] (00:23:08): You mean like you were soaked in water? Sampson [Dili] (00:23:12): That would be sotted all the time. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:12): Who you're like passionately in love with, maybe a slightly sexual context? Sampson [Dili] (00:23:17): What? Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:17): Besotten? Stace [Nix] (00:23:17): Atalia... Sampson [Dili] (00:23:21): Atalia, focus. Stace [Nix] (00:23:21): Atalia, it's okay. Numenera is not really my thing, either. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:25): Okay. But I feel like I maybe could have understood this had circumstances been different, but they weren't. Sampson [Dili] (00:23:33): Okay. What about this, it's been too long, Nix, what if we just did the thing that we've been putting off and go talk to Doc Taraz? Stace [Nix] (00:23:41): Oh, have we been putting that off? Sampson [Dili] (00:23:43): Well, you have. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:44): You're the one who's like, "Oh, she's so nice and fine." Sampson [Dili] (00:23:47): She might be an expert on this. Stace [Nix] (00:23:49): Atalia, this is not how you treat your friends. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:52): Doc Taraz is not our friend, she's been ripping you off. Stace [Nix] (00:23:55): No, Atalia, I am your friend. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:57): Okay. Well, let's go talk to Doc Taraz then. Stace [Nix] (00:24:00): That was rude, dude. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:02): What was rude? Saying that she's been ripping off your family when I've been saying that for a minute? That's truth. Don't you want truth from me? Stace [Nix] (00:24:10): It's more your tone, you know? Sampson [Dili] (00:24:12): It's okay Jeskey, they're just fighting. They do this every now and then. Daniel [GM] (00:24:20): Jeskey has sort of huddled behind Dili like, what's going on? Why are mom and dad fighting? Stace [Nix] (00:24:21): I just feel like you're yelling at me. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:24): I'm sorry. I'm just angry that I don't understand this really intriguing plate. Stace [Nix] (00:24:29): Oh, it's okay Atalia. I don't understand it either. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:33): Anyway. Yeah. Let's go talk to Doc Taraz, you know? Stace [Nix] (00:24:37): Okay. It's Doc Taraz, I would appreciate it if- Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:40): Doctor Oz? Sampson [Dili] (00:24:42): Taraz, Taraz. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:42): Taraz? Stace [Nix] (00:24:47): We broke Marietta. Daniel [GM] (00:24:48): That was a canonical decision that Stace made so that we don't get sued. Stace [Nix] (00:24:57): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:57): I literally did not know. Stace [Nix] (00:24:59): Yeah. Sampson [Dili] (00:25:00): Dr. Oz is also fake, so it's fine, right? Stace [Nix] (00:25:06): All right. Yeah. I can take you to Doc Taraz. Okay. So if there's one thing that Doc Taraz likes it's to be paid on time, okay? So we should not be me. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:16): You know, you've done plenty of that I feel like, paying her and that hasn't really gotten you the results you wanted so maybe we should try not being nice to her. Sampson [Dili] (00:25:26): We made the last payment on time I thought. Stace [Nix] (00:25:28): Technically, I made it late, but I'm just saying we should be new patients or something. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:34): She knows us though, doesn't she? Wait, wait, I haven't met her, have I? Daniel [GM] (00:25:38): Na-huh. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:40): Cool. Do you think she knows my mom, because if she doesn't know my mom I could be very ill, you know? I'm seeking care. Stace [Nix] (00:25:48): I have no idea if she knows your mom, Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:51): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:25:53): Me and Doc Taraz ain't like that. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:55): Okay. Maybe it should be Dili who needs assistance? Do we have money, though? Sampson [Dili] (00:25:59): I've got money. Daniel [GM] (00:26:00): I don't know. You guys just spent a shit load of shins. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:00): Yeah, I just spent all of my shins. I think I have 12 left or something absurd. Stace [Nix] (00:26:07): Nix holds up to bulging bags of shins and she's like, "Is this money? Is this what you're talking about?" Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:11): Yes. Yes. Stace [Nix] (00:26:15): I'm just saying maybe it would be smart for me not to go as me since I'm wanted. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:18): That's what I'm saying. We'll go under illusion. We can be a family seeking help from this nano and then once we're being treated, we can jump her and be like, "Tell us things." Stace [Nix] (00:26:34): I have the squid hat. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:36): Oh, the lie eater, or an actual squid hat? Stace [Nix] (00:26:40): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:41): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:26:42): They're the same thing, Atalia. You gave it to me. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:44): Let's see if we can set up an appointment with Doctor Taraz. Stace [Nix] (00:26:50): Wow. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:51): That's not her name, Doctor? Sampson [Dili] (00:26:57): Taraz. Taraz. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:57): Taraz? Sampson [Dili] (00:26:57): Taraz, Doc Taraz. Stace [Nix] (00:26:57): Her name is Taraz. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:57): Oh. Stace [Nix] (00:26:58): Her title is Doc Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:59): As in like Doctor? Sampson [Dili] (00:27:01): As in Doc. Stace [Nix] (00:27:01): I wouldn't know, Atalia. Daniel [GM] (00:27:05): If you're from a rural, middle of nowhere like hillbilly town yeah, you'd say doctor instead of doc. Stace [Nix] (00:27:13): Yeah. Honestly it would be kind of rude to call her doctor. She's just some sort of barn surgeon, Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:21): She's not any type of surgeon? Okay. We need to go find this lady. I would like to find her. I personally have some questions for her after you're done asking yours. Stace [Nix] (00:27:32): I really feel like we should think harder about how we're going to approach this. Dili, do you have any suggestions? Sampson [Dili] (00:27:40): A question on the lie eater, is it only visual or only from seeing the tentacles move that it tells you that something's lying? Stace [Nix] (00:27:49): I think it also changes colors. Sampson [Dili] (00:27:55): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:27:55): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:55): Well, I think we just need to get alone in a room with her, which would be a reasonable thing if we were patients or if we were there for a patient. Sampson [Dili] (00:28:02): Yeah, but that would probably get one of us in a room alone with her. Stace [Nix] (00:28:06): I have a plan. What if I... Stace [Nix] (00:28:07): No, it's worth it's too much money. Say, what if I told her I had the back pay I owed her? Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:12): She probably knows that your mom has been arrested, though. Stace [Nix] (00:28:16): Atalia, you sneak in. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:18): Oh! Yeah, I can do that. Stace [Nix] (00:28:21): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:21): You want me to sneak in and talk to her? Stace [Nix] (00:28:23): You search her office while Dili is being a patient. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:27): Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. I can do that. Stace [Nix] (00:28:29): If the exam room is separate. Is it? Would Nix know that? Daniel [GM] (00:28:33): Nix doesn't have any idea. Nix has only gone there for payment. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:35): We'll go as a family. Dili is our sick, sick son. Stace [Nix] (00:28:42): Cousin. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:43): Cousin. Daniel [GM] (00:28:44): Please, my son, he's very sick. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:48): Well, I thought we were going to be under illusion or disguised anyways. Sampson [Dili] (00:28:52): Just a quick thing, my illusion also only lasts if I have line of sight so if we get separated then... Stace [Nix] (00:28:59): Dili is also wanted. Sampson [Dili] (00:29:00): That, too. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:01): Well, I'm not. So how about you guys say together and I'll leave. Stace [Nix] (00:29:05): All right. You're our sick cousin. Sampson [Dili] (00:29:07): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:07): Me, or Dili? Sampson [Dili] (00:29:07): Yes. Stace [Nix] (00:29:08): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:09): Oh. Yes, I'm so sick. Stace [Nix] (00:29:14): Because you can be undisguised and go into a room without us. Because again, I can only disguise you if I can see you. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:19): I thought we would just all go in together and then you guys could go see her and I could have to pee and go check out her office. Stace [Nix] (00:29:26): Atalia, we can't see anybody, especially not a nano who might be able to see through illusions. Sampson [Dili] (00:29:31): Oh shit. That's right. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:33): Okay. So let's go case to joint minimally. Stace [Nix] (00:29:37): It is settled. We will go case the joint. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:41): Let's go check out her office. I want to see what that's like. She might always do home visits. Let's see if we can find out her schedule. Daniel [GM] (00:29:48): She only has her home, so she either does home visits or she sees people in her home and she's not that far away from Nix's family. She's in the same nicer area of town. Her house is incredibly respectable, very well, but together. There's clearly a lot of money flowing through here. And what would you like to do? Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:10): I want to case the joint. I want to sneakily walk around it and see entrances and exits and people coming in and out and if she has guards or if there's any weird new menera traps, that kind of thing. Daniel [GM] (00:30:22): Okay. So let's do two things then, first give me a stealth roll of 12, that'll be a six for you. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:33): It's a 17. Daniel [GM] (00:30:33): Okay. So it's unseen. Now give me some sort of perceptions, searching role of... Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:40): I'm trained in perception, searching, and listening. Daniel [GM] (00:30:43): Okay. So then for you it'd be a nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:45): Ah. Stace [Nix] (00:30:47): Got any XPs? Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:48): Yeah, I have two. I'm going to spend one. That's 19. I like that. I like that 19. Daniel [GM] (00:30:55): What would you propose as a minor effect? Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:57): I'm confident if there are guards and what their routine is and I think I might've found a way in. Daniel [GM] (00:31:04): Okay. Yeah. So I would say there aren't any guards. Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:08): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:31:09): You are aware of servants in the household. There are two, a butler and a maid, and apparently, from what you can tell, Doc Taraz is not there right now, but the servants are there moving around and you've identified at least a couple of windows that you could try to go into and you can see the servants moving around, but you don't necessarily know everything that they're doing, so it's hard to predict where they'll go. Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:37): Okay. I will share that information as I'm casing it or when I come back around. I presume I did a loop. Daniel [GM] (00:31:44): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:45): Yeah. So I don't think she's home unfortunately. However, I could just see if she has a home office. Maybe she's got a calendar in there and I can see where she is and we could catch her while she's on her way home. Sampson [Dili] (00:31:59): Nix, you've been in there, right? So you know where the home office is? Stace [Nix] (00:32:03): Oh yeah. I know were her office is. That's where she accepts fat stacks of cash. Sampson [Dili] (00:32:09): All right. Then Atalia could probably just sneak right up in there. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:11): Yeah. How do you feel about that? Stace [Nix] (00:32:13): Good. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:14): Okay. I'm going to go break in and steal stuff out of our office then. Daniel [GM] (00:32:18): Okay. Are you just going to do that or are you guys going to still have the others provide a distraction for the servants? Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:26): Do you want to knock on the door and ask where she could be? You could just be showing up to pay and to ask what happened to your mom or not? I don't know. Does she know that you're wanted? Okay. Sampson [Dili] (00:32:36): What if we did this, we are in the market for a family doctor so we're just asking about rates and stuff, just basic questions that I would assume servants would be able to answer. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:47): Yeah, definitely. And it could be like, I thought this is where her office was. I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was her home. Stace [Nix] (00:32:53): No, it is the same thing, Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:55): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:32:56): She works out of her home. Sampson [Dili] (00:32:57): No, but we don't know that, Nix. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:58): Yeah, exactly. Stace [Nix] (00:33:00): Oh. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:00): Be like, oh, I'm so sorry. I thought this was her office. Oh, her office is here. That's really cool. Where is she? Stace [Nix] (00:33:05): Okay, that's good. Let's do it. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:07): Okay. You guys do that. I'm going to go around back and I think I can climb in through that window. Where is her office in the house? Is it upstairs? Daniel [GM] (00:33:15): Second floor, yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:16): Okay. Is there a window that I can climb into on the second floor? Daniel [GM] (00:33:19): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:19): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:33:20): There's also a wall. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:21): I can climb. You go talk to them at the door and I will get in. That's my job. And Atalia will disappear. Sampson [Dili] (00:33:28): Where's Jeskey? Where's Jeskey. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:30): Jeskey, stay. Stace [Nix] (00:33:34): All right. This is Stace talking. Stop asking about Jeskey because she just goes, she just appears places where she's supposed to be. It's the way she works. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:42): I think that Jeskey might actually be able to completely turn invisible. We've just never seen her do it. Daniel [GM] (00:33:49): Jeskey has provided Atalia assets on stealth in the past, but climbing a wall is probably not the thing that would be helpful with Jeskey. Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:00): So yeah, I think Atalia would tell Jeskey to wait in the bush slash trees that we're sleuthing in. Daniel [GM] (00:34:05): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:06): Like, here, please be a stealth Jeskey. Okay, Love you. Bye. Stace [Nix] (00:34:10): All right. Good plan. Daniel [GM] (00:34:11): So let's start with Nix and Dili. Sampson [Dili] (00:34:16): Well, first I take an action recovery roll because disguise takes so much. I feel relieved. I do that then I disguise Nix and myself as some like hoity-toity, upper-class. Nix is kind of like some very demure, elegant looking lady and myself as kind of like some big, just like grr. Daniel [GM] (00:34:38): With an extravagant mustache? Sampson [Dili] (00:34:41): No, I have like this kind of neck beard that I really should shave, but too much money to... Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:48): It's okay. He has money, so it doesn't matter. It's fine. Daniel [GM] (00:34:52): Gotcha. Sampson [Dili] (00:34:52): I can do what I want. Like that kind of beard. Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:55): Exactly. You will still respect me because of how expensive my clothes are. You don't care about my neck beard and stuff. Stace [Nix] (00:35:01): I would like to roll, I don't know if this would be applicable, social interactions to see how well Nix does emulating the hoity-toity ladies that she knows. Daniel [GM] (00:35:13): Okay. We'll get to that. Stace [Nix] (00:35:13): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:35:15): So you guys are going up to knock on the door, I take it? Stace [Nix] (00:35:17): After you, husband. Sampson [Dili] (00:35:20): Oh, okay. Daniel [GM] (00:35:20): Oh come on. This is the ninth world. It's not like that. Stace [Nix] (00:35:26): No, I'm too good to knock on a door. Daniel [GM] (00:35:28): Oh, okay. Sampson [Dili] (00:35:29): Of course, wife. Stace [Nix] (00:35:31): There you go. Sampson [Dili] (00:35:34): We need a bard. Fuck. Dili knocks. Daniel [GM] (00:35:39): There's a moment and then the butler answers the door. She's a handsome woman in her thirties with sort of dark hair, but sort of streaked with gray. And she answers the door and says, "Yes. Do you have an appointment?" Sampson [Dili] (00:35:58): I presume that you are the Doctor Taraz? Daniel [GM] (00:36:03): No, Doc Taraz is not in right now. She's currently occupied with business with the Queen's court. Sampson [Dili] (00:36:11): Oh. Stace [Nix] (00:36:13): Well, we just moved here from Shalmis and we're looking for a new doctor. Raz, Doc Taraz. We're looking for new nano for medical treatment. Daniel [GM] (00:36:23): Oh, well, Doc Taraz is not really general practice. Is there something specific you're looking for? Stace [Nix] (00:36:32): Well, we don't like to talk about our projects with servants, but kind of. Daniel [GM] (00:36:38): Okay. So now give me the social role. That was well done. So I'm going to give you an asset to start, so it's a nine, and then you're specialized if I remember, so that's a three. Stace [Nix] (00:36:48): Who needs a bard? Yeah, that's a seven. [crosstalk 00:36:55]. Daniel [GM] (00:36:57): Okay. Well, they look mildly offended, but they're like, okay, well she probably won't be back for at least an hour. I'm not exactly sure how to help. I can try to see if we can get you an appointment for later this week. Stace [Nix] (00:37:14): Well, what sort of services does she offer? Sampson [Dili] (00:37:17): Indeed. Daniel [GM] (00:37:18): Highly specialized. I'm sure a servant like myself wouldn't really know all the details. Stace [Nix] (00:37:23): Probably not. But does she do house calls or does she only accept consultation in the office? Daniel [GM] (00:37:30): She does consultation in the office, but she does do house calls for treatment. Stace [Nix] (00:37:33): That's very convenient. Sampson [Dili] (00:37:35): What's her specialty? Is she a [inaudible 00:37:42] doctor or a bone doctor or does she specialize in range or the weird? Daniel [GM] (00:37:48): She deals with a combination of unusual cases and high profile wildness. [crosstalk 00:37:57]. Stace [Nix] (00:37:53): High profile wildness. Sampson [Dili] (00:37:53): High profile wildness. Daniel [GM] (00:37:58): As you can see from our array of jade eggs, she has a very burgeoning business there. Stace [Nix] (00:38:04): I know what you do with those. Sampson [Dili] (00:38:09): Indeed. It's well known what you do with those. Daniel [GM] (00:38:12): Okay. So we're going to cut over to Atalia. Atalia, please make a climbing roll of nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:38:19): Okay. I'm trained in climbing. It's a nine. Daniel [GM] (00:38:24): Okay. So you climb up to the window no problem. The window is currently latched so you're going to need to try to do some sort of infiltration type roll to get the window unlatched so you can open it and get inside. Marietta [Atalia] (00:38:39): Okay. I think I'm trained in lock picking now. Yep. Superb infiltrator. Yeah. There's that. Daniel [GM] (00:38:49): Okay. So it is a 12 to start. You've got suburb infiltrator, which brings it down to a nine, and I think you have light tools, right? Marietta [Atalia] (00:38:55): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Daniel [GM] (00:38:56): Okay. So it's a six. Marietta [Atalia] (00:38:59): That's an 18. Daniel [GM] (00:39:00): Okay. So you get the window open no problem. As you come into the house I need you to make a stealth roll of nine, so that's a three for you. Marietta [Atalia] (00:39:10): I spend my other XP. Stace [Nix] (00:39:13): Oh my. Eat that die. Marietta [Atalia] (00:39:16): That's a 17. Daniel [GM] (00:39:17): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:39:19): I need a dice jail. Yeah. Tweet me your favorite dice jails at I'm on a hike. Daniel [GM] (00:39:29): Yeah. Okay. So yeah, you slip in as far as you can tell unheard. So how in game does this re roll work? How does she manage to pull this off? Marietta [Atalia] (00:39:38): I think it's like kind of breezy outside today, so I think she climbs up no problem and she opens the window but then it slams back down or something and she's like, shit, but then she waits a second and there's no other noise. She slides it back open and she gets in it and it's fine. You know what I mean? It's like, oh, that was just the wind. Daniel [GM] (00:39:58): Okay. So you're now in Doc Taraz's office. There are various paintings and numerea on display on the walls and a fairly large, quite beautiful, sort of sit desk in the center with rather extravagant accents on each of the corners. Marietta [Atalia] (00:40:20): All right. The first thing I'm going to do is scan the area. I presume the office is not massive. Daniel [GM] (00:40:25): No, it's not. So your scan tells you that there aren't any numerea on the walls. Some of them are ciphers of various types. None of the ciphers on the walls are more than level four. You'd have to look at them in more detail to kind of figure out what they were. There are no traps or alarms that you can detect. Marietta [Atalia] (00:40:48): Okay, so she doesn't have like a webcam in corner just filming me. That's kind of what I was looking for. Daniel [GM] (00:40:54): No, as far as you know, not. Marietta [Atalia] (00:40:56): Okay. Then I'm going to quietly tiptoe over to her desk and begin my investigation of the papers. I want to see if she has any sort of records system. Can I find the information on Nix's mom? Any correspondence with the Queen? You know, that kind of thing. Daniel [GM] (00:41:09): Okay. So give me a search roll, searching or investigation roll, of 12. Marietta [Atalia] (00:41:18): All right. I'm trained in searching. Daniel [GM] (00:41:20): Okay. That's a nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:41:21): That's a nine. Daniel [GM] (00:41:23): Okay. So there are various files. They seem to be to some degree in a shorthand that you don't recognize. They're not encrypted per se. It's something you can figure out if you had time. You could spend time trying to decipher it, but we're talking half hour to an hour, it's not going to be something you're going to figure out immediately. One thing you do find as a calendar book. You notice that there is an appointment in there that was initially just once a month just listed as SE and then now it seems to be listed for every three days going forward in the future. It wasn't like that before now, but starting this week it is now every three days going in the future. And there is a note there that it is essentially at the Tower. Marietta [Atalia] (00:42:21): And that's where the Queen is? Daniel [GM] (00:42:23): The Towers is the Queen's prison. It is not the palace. Marietta [Atalia] (00:42:29): Okay. And it started when Nix's mom was captured? Daniel [GM] (00:42:32): It looks very close to that. Marietta [Atalia] (00:42:34): All right. I'm going to look over this and try to memorize the schedule a little bit, especially to see if there's any place that we could find her, like cross paths with her. Daniel [GM] (00:42:43): Okay. One of her appointments, it should be wrapping up right now and it is the SE appointment at the Tower. So in theory she should be wrapping that up and there's nothing else in her calendar. So presumably she's... Marietta [Atalia] (00:42:55): She'd be coming back home. All right. Based on this SE scheduled appointment, can I find any notes relating to that? Daniel [GM] (00:43:07): There are notes there, but again, they are in a sort of shorthand, it would take you time to decipher it. I mean, you could take the notes, but the likelihood is that they would be noticed if they were missing at some point. You don't know, but given how often these appointments are scheduled for SE you would assume that those notes are probably checked rather frequently, then. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:36): Okay. I guess I will... Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:36): Shoot. Atalia will look at them a little bit more and memorize where they are and try to make sure that everything is like put back the way it was so that she doesn't realize that I even was in here. Daniel [GM] (00:43:42): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:43): And sort of do a slow circle to see if there's anything else that seems as though it would be pertinent to any of our situation. Daniel [GM] (00:43:52): You don't see anything else that's necessarily pertinent to your situation in this room. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:53): Okay. I will sneak back out then and leave the notes responsibly. Daniel [GM] (00:43:59): Okay. I think you get out no problem. We cut back to Nix and Dili chatting with the butler. So are you looking for something like... Daniel [GM] (00:44:15): I understand you can't talk about it, we could try to schedule an appointment. I'm afraid Doc Taraz is quite booked up. It might be a week or two before she can consult with you. Sampson [Dili] (00:44:26): Oh, we're just shopping around. Tell us, these high profile conditions that you talked about, is this the word you use? Daniel [GM] (00:44:36): High profile wellness and very specialized conditions. Sampson [Dili] (00:44:40): Tell us, what kind of high-profile wellnesses? Daniel [GM] (00:44:44): She can provide general wellness advice for those with sufficient capital to afford her services. As I said, we have these jade eggs. We also have some aroma therapy candles that are specialized. Sampson [Dili] (00:45:00): How well versed is she in crystals? Daniel [GM] (00:45:07): I can't speak for Doc Taraz, but I'm happy to schedule a consultation for you where you can discuss with her. Stace [Nix] (00:45:13): Yes. Let's do that and I'm wondering if we could perhaps examine your jade eggs. I am in the market for a new one. The old one... Stace [Nix] (00:45:22): I don't want to say what happened to the old one. Sampson [Dili] (00:45:25): Suffice it to say, it's getting quite, what's the word you used earlier, dingy? Daniel [GM] (00:45:30): Well, these eggs here are just display models. They're not intended for use on the wall here. Stace [Nix] (00:45:40): I understand. Do you have some in stock for sale? Could I pick one out today? Daniel [GM] (00:45:44): No. Doc Taraz doesn't believe in just having random sales there. It requires a full consultation so that she can review your needs and your biological details to make sure that she finds the egg that's most suited for your needs. Stace [Nix] (00:46:01): Alabaster, did you hear that? Daniel [GM] (00:46:03): ... suited for your needs. Stace [Nix] (00:46:03): Alabaster, did you hear that? Sampson [Dili] (00:46:04): He's prudent. How very intriguing. Much better than the one we hired in Shallamas. Stace [Nix] (00:46:10): I would love to schedule a consultation with Dr. Oz. Daniel [GM] (00:46:16): Okay. Just a moment. If you want, you can come in here to the sitting room and I will check Dr. Oz's calendar. Sampson [Dili] (00:46:26): [inaudible 00:46:26] Perfect. Thank you. Daniel [GM] (00:46:27): So, butler leads you in to the sitting room. Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:31): Atalia's over here, fucking being prudent and y'all are like... Daniel [GM] (00:46:35): Yeah. So, they lead you to the sitting room. The sitting room is what we've described before, for when Nix was there. There are some portraits of Dr. Oz on the walls. It's a relatively nice, comfy sitting room. The butler leaves. Daniel [GM] (00:46:50): Atalia, you're sneaking out and no problem, but as you're climbing down the wall, you hear the door to the office open and somebody walks over to the desk and then leaves the room, comes back down and the butler reenters the sitting room, carrying a book, presumably a calendar-book and says, "Yes, I see, I have an opening here a week from today at 10:00 AM." Daniel [GM] (00:47:15): Stace, you said something, but we couldn't hear you. Stace [Nix] (00:47:19): Yes, please put down Stacia Featherwhite for an appointment next week. Daniel [GM] (00:47:26): Okay. So the butler writes it down and says, "Excellent. Do you need a card? Or will you be able to remember?" Stace [Nix] (00:47:31): I'm going to need a card. Sampson [Dili] (00:47:33): A card, how fancy! Daniel [GM] (00:47:35): Certainly. And the butler pulls a card out of her jacket, pocket, jots down the date and the time, hands it to you, says, "We will see you in a week's time." Stace [Nix] (00:47:47): Thank you. Sampson [Dili] (00:47:48): [inaudible 00:47:48] Delightful. Daniel [GM] (00:47:50): And they lead you out that front door. Daniel [GM] (00:47:52): ChaCha, Buddy Cop is standing there. He looks at you and says, "I thought we should have a talk away from the others. And luckily enough, Bastian here was willing to assist in bringing you along." Alex [ChaCha] (00:48:09): I mean, yeah, I think we should talk, because people are making a lot of wild accusations now, and I have a bomb now. So... Yeah. People need to respect me now, and tell me, honestly, what they're really thinking. Daniel [GM] (00:48:28): I couldn't agree more. And I'm sorry that you've heard these things. I do you have a question for you before we get started, ChaCha. There's something different about you. Daniel [GM] (00:48:42): And then you hear a voice in your head go, "Oh no." Alex [ChaCha] (00:48:45): Oh, yeah. I think it's from that time I got cloned and then we were on the ship, and there's just a bunch of crazy stuff in that ship, man. I've also grown as a person. Daniel [GM] (00:48:56): Yes. I'm sure that's the case, but it's odd for you to have this other entity inside of you. Is that a wanted thing? Alex [ChaCha] (00:49:07): I mean, so far so good. He's not annoying, like the snakes. Daniel [GM] (00:49:15): As soon as you said "Snakes," the little boy looks around, startled, and starts checking the sidelines. But there isn't any sign of any of these snakes. Alex [ChaCha] (00:49:25): The snakes seem to be having an interesting time, but I don't know. I'm still in the air about him. Nothing's wrong. Daniel [GM] (00:49:36): "Yeah. That's fair enough for me. I'm just along for the ride." Daniel [GM] (00:49:40): So, do you have any concerns about having a heart-to-heart with your little friend, riding along? Alex [ChaCha] (00:49:48): From what I understand, the bigger threat is unknown horrors, rather than my new friend. Alex [ChaCha] (00:49:57): They don't seem to really be able to go anywhere. So it's just like having an easy second opinion without having to explain everything. Daniel [GM] (00:50:07): All right. Well, if that's what you feel. We can have a discussion. Bastian, would you do me a favor and watch the door? We want to make sure that none of our friends come and disturb us. Daniel [GM] (00:50:21): Bastian looks up at him and says, "Okay. I mean, I can deal with the snakes, but if it's the other ones, you're on your own, because they creep me out, man." Daniel [GM] (00:50:32): And Buddy Cop looks at him and says, "You couldn't do anything about the other ones anyway. Looking for the imps will be fine." Daniel [GM] (00:50:41): And so Bastian hops off the counter, comes by, looks at you and says, "I used to be just like you." Daniel [GM] (00:50:48): And then he wanders out the door, and Buddy Cop looks at you and says, "I understand that you've talked to other individuals who have questioned whether or not I'm leading you down the right path." Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:03): I mean like... That kid? Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:07): What he said right there, that throws up red flags, like he used to be just like me. That's one of those things where I'm like, "Man, that really gives credence to other people's suggestions that you are not a good person." Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:20): But at the same time, just think of our history. Think of the times you helped, like the time we went to the ruins and you were like, "Yo, this way. And they were that way." Daniel [GM] (00:51:30): Yeah. Bastian is where he is because he made his own choices. He was not unlike you, at one point, but I didn't have anything to do with him becoming the way he is. Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:43): So, depending on what happens to me, I can become a horror, too. Daniel [GM] (00:51:48): Oh, you're capable of many things, ChaCha. That's why I'm so interested in you. Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:53): And Nix says, I shouldn't just kill people, but at the same, it's just... What about self-defense? Murder in self-defense is okay. And I don't think people get that. Daniel [GM] (00:52:05): Oh, I would agree. I mean, sometimes violence is necessary. This is a dangerous world that we live in. Not everything can be solved peaceably. Daniel [GM] (00:52:16): ChaCha, I wanted you to be able to trust me. And I understand there've been others saying things that are not... You've met some of the others in our court already that have not been as kind to me, but I can promise you this, ChaCha, I will never lie to you. Daniel [GM] (00:52:39): I realize that's a big leap to make, but perhaps something more transactional would make it easier for you to trust me. Alex [ChaCha] (00:52:48): Like you're going to pay me to open the door? Or are you going to... What? Daniel [GM] (00:52:53): I'm thinking of a trading of favors. Alex [ChaCha] (00:52:57): That could be useful because we have to get Nix's parents out of jail. There was an oopsy and they're in jail now. Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:05): And I've been told that we're supposed to not have many casualties helping them escape. Daniel [GM] (00:53:12): Hmm. Yeah. That's a difficult situation. I think I remember her family from one of our earlier meetings. Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:25): Yeah. You were at brunch. Daniel [GM] (00:53:25): Hmm. I might be able to help with that. We could at least try to figure out how I might be able to help. Daniel [GM] (00:53:35): Let me ask you a question, ChaCha. Do you have any of your special medicine on your person? Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:47): Yeah. I always have some. It's one of those things that when I go out to get supplies, you always see it in the forest. Daniel [GM] (00:53:49): Okay. Would you be willing to take some now? I might be able to enhance your sight, in order to see farther, not just across the veil. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:00): What would it cost? Daniel [GM] (00:54:02): This is just exploratory. There's no cost yet for this. I'm trying to figure out how I can help you, and perhaps giving you insight will help us figure that out. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:16): I mean, the worst that could happen is I lose my eyes and become like Bastian. So no harm, no foul. Let's try it. Daniel [GM] (00:54:24): If you'd like, I believe there's a more comfortable chair in the living space of this building. I'm afraid I'm not sure who tore off the door. Daniel [GM] (00:54:33): Certainly not me, because I don't need to, I can just go through walls. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:38): It was probably one of the people chasing Dili. We made some pretty bad enemies, and now one's living in his head. So I consider myself lucky to not have one of those. Daniel [GM] (00:54:51): Hmm. That's truly unfortunate. Shall we begin? Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:57): Yes. Daniel [GM] (00:54:58): Okay. So you chew your herbs once again, it takes a moment and then this room starts spinning and glowing. And Buddy Cop seems wreathed in both traditional flames, but there's an inner nimbus of purple flame. Daniel [GM] (00:55:19): And Buddy Cop says, "All right, ChaCha, I just need you to relax and look at my heart." Daniel [GM] (00:55:29): And he takes these deep black ebon claws and pushes them into his chest and peels back flesh there. And there's just like this dripping black goo. And you see this orange pulse in the middle that seems to spin and you seem to be falling for a moment. Daniel [GM] (00:55:54): And then you're standing somewhere like when you look down at your hand, you're clearly sort of translucent. You don't think you're really are where you see, you're in some sort of building. Daniel [GM] (00:56:08): There are... It looks like fixed stone walls for the most part. But up ahead, you can see various arrays of barred doors. Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:29): I think ChaCha's going to take a moment and collect herself and start investigating the doors a little bit, but not get too close to them. Daniel [GM] (00:56:31): Mm-hmm (affirmative). So the doors look pretty large. They have pretty strong bars pressed against... They're latched very securely. They're key to entry, like it's not something where they just open. Each door in this hallway seems to require a key. Daniel [GM] (00:56:49): And actually, while you're looking at it, one of the doors opens and a guard comes through, shuts the door and locks it and then proceeds to walk right through you, as if he can't see you and you feel a cold chill through your form as he passes by. Alex [ChaCha] (00:57:07): Would ChaCha recognize the guard's uniform? Daniel [GM] (00:57:10): It's definitely a guard of Charmonde because it looks exactly like the same uniform, maybe a little rougher, but very similar to the guard uniforms that you guys were accosted by, outside the inn. Sampson [Dili] (00:57:23): I think, then, ChaCha's going to try and stick her head through the door that the guard just came in, to see what's on the other side. Daniel [GM] (00:57:31): It tickles when you do that, but you do manage to. It takes a little bit of effort, but you manage to push your head through the door, and you can see a long hallway of what looks to be barred cells. Daniel [GM] (00:57:47): And you think you can hear somebody weeping. Alex [ChaCha] (00:57:53): ChaCha's going to go investimigate. Daniel [GM] (00:57:54): Okay. So you go through the door, and as you walk down the hall, you see, as you get closer, you notice that at one of the far doors, there's a tall woman standing there in robes. And there is light pouring out of one of the cells and into a small device that she holds in her hand. Daniel [GM] (00:58:17): And when the light stops coming in, you hear a voice from inside the cell say, "Dr. Oz, she can't take anymore. This is... can't you see how weak she is?" Daniel [GM] (00:58:32): Dr. Oz says, "I'm just doing what the queen asked. She doesn't want your wife disappearing from the jail again." Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:41): I think ChaCha's just going to try and somehow hurt Dr. Oz. Daniel [GM] (00:58:47): Okay. How would ChaCha like to do that? Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:48): I wonder if an onslaught would work. Like a mental onslaught. Daniel [GM] (00:58:54): Don't know. Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:55): Let's try it. Daniel [GM] (00:58:56): Okay. It's a 12 to hit... Actually a 9, because she can't see you at all. Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:02): Well, it sucks to be Dr. Oz because that's a 20. Daniel [GM] (00:59:06): Hmm. Okay. So that changes a little bit about how that's going to work. So I will say this. Daniel [GM] (00:59:11): Under normal circumstances, your onslaught, while in this form would have no effect, but because you've got a major effect, keeping in mind that you're going from doing nothing to something, what would you propose as a major effect? Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:27): I think... Would giving her a really heinous migraine work? Daniel [GM] (00:59:33): Yeah. It could be that. Yeah, so it's maybe it's not the same thing as direct damage, but you've definitely... Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:59:42): So, Dr. Oz grabs at her head and says, "Oh my God. Oof. I'm sorry, Lasher, but this is... Ow, goddamn it. This is the Queen's orders and she's not teleporting." Daniel [GM] (00:59:56): And now you can definitely hear that voice is Nix's father. And he's like, "But look at her, look how weak she is. You can't... I don't know what you're... You're coming too often." Daniel [GM] (01:00:08): And she's like, "I'm sorry but the queen doesn't want to... Ow! Leave any room for error, she's insisted on every three days." Alex [ChaCha] (01:00:16): Can ChaCha try and go in and do a healing check on what she assumes is going to be Nix's mother in this cell, as well? Daniel [GM] (01:00:24): Yeah. So you can go over there and now you can see that Nix's dad is there. He looks okay. He's a little gaunt, but you think mostly from worry and stress, not from an actual health problem or anything like that. Daniel [GM] (01:00:40): Nix's mother, on the other hand, her eyes are sunken. It's like she's shrinking in on herself. And for as long as you've known her, in part, because of the stress she's under, with this condition, she's always looked a little fragile, but she never looked sickly like this before. Daniel [GM] (01:00:58): She also looks a little, maybe even jaundiced, like she's just... Her eyes are only half open, and she's just breathing shakily. Daniel [GM] (01:01:10): And Dr. Oz says, "Oh God, I have this killing migraine... I'm sorry, Lasher, like I said, I'll do what I can. I'll put a word in, but I need to go, now. I'm not feeling well." Daniel [GM] (01:01:23): And she takes her device and puts it into the folds of her cloak. And she goes over to a far door and knocks on it and says "It's Teroz." Daniel [GM] (01:01:35): And the guard opens the door and lets her through and it shuts behind. And Lasher simply goes over and cradles Nix's mom in his arms and weeps. Alex [ChaCha] (01:01:48): Using her healing skill, would ChaCha be able to determine how much longer Nix's mom could keep going at this rate? Daniel [GM] (01:01:57): Obviously, you've only got so much context, but I think with your training, it would still be a 9 because you've got, you know, some other background. Daniel [GM] (01:02:06): And there are these other things that have been said about Dr. Oz, and things like that. Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:11): Okay. 13. Daniel [GM] (01:02:14): Nix's mom can't stand much more of this. If, considering the way she looked in the ship on the way back, and the difference between that and now, you don't think she's going to be able to survive another treatment. Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:31): So that would give Nix's mom three days. Daniel [GM] (01:02:34): Yeah, assuming that Dr. Oz was communicating the correct timeline. Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:39): Hmm. Trying to think. I don't think I can use healing to give Nix's mom more energy or anything, because it's... I think that's an advanced skill. Daniel [GM] (01:02:50): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Yeah. And you're not exactly sure what this state you're in here. Like you're clearly not fully you, present, like it's more like your perception is here, than anything else. Alex [ChaCha] (01:03:02): I guess ChaCha's going to then run after Dr. Oz and see if she can catch up and figure out what's happening. Daniel [GM] (01:03:14): So Dr. Oz, she goes down a series of staircases and comes out and this is clearly some sort of tower attached to the palace, or near the palace, rather. Daniel [GM] (01:03:26): And she comes out on the street and she still occasionally putting her hand up to her forehead and just massaging her brow, like we all do sometimes with headaches, even though it makes no difference. Daniel [GM] (01:03:40): She seems to be suffering. She doesn't like... She's definitely responding poorly to light. You definitely think it is like a migraine. So it's a little light-sensitive, but she pulls up the hood to kind of block some of the sunlight and begins walking down the street. Daniel [GM] (01:03:59): And you're a little disoriented because the only time you've been over by the palace was... Unfortunate. So you don't know this area of town particularly well. You could guess by where the sun is in the sky, that she's probably heading back in the general direction of either Ward Kala or Nix's neighborhood, you're not sure which one. You'd have to know the town better to be sure. Daniel [GM] (01:04:26): As you're following her, you feel your sight getting a little fuzzy and then you're back in Poloss's shop. Daniel [GM] (01:04:36): Where we cut back to Nix and Dili. Sampson [Dili] (01:04:38): Have a wonderful day. I don't know... Daniel [GM] (01:04:45): [inaudible 01:04:45] She looks at Dili for a moment, almost with pity in her eyes, and then looks at Nix and says, "I hope we can find some thing to help out your family." And then leads her out the door and shuts it. Stace [Nix] (01:05:02): Nix is just thinking, "Be cool! Be cool! Be cool!" As we're walking [inaudible 01:05:07]. Marietta [Atalia] (01:05:12): I think Atalia is waiting there. Daniel [GM] (01:05:12): Yeah, Atalia is definitely back, there by now. Atalia he is back there, petting Jeskii and Jeskii licking her face. Marietta [Atalia] (01:05:17): I think Atalia's laying on the ground, leaning on her elbow. Jeskii's is like on her back, living her best life. Daniel [GM] (01:05:24): It's like you guys walk in and Jeskii is licking Atalia's face in that moment, where some dog owners get with their dogs, where you're just like, "Yeah, I don't know why you're allowing this to happen right now." Marietta [Atalia] (01:05:35): Such a good Jeskii! Hey guys! Sampson [Dili] (01:05:41): When we get back to Atalia. Sampson [Dili] (01:05:44): Nix, what was up with the eggs? Stace [Nix] (01:05:47): Oh, some people think that they help keep your vagina clean. It's kind of like a cleanse. [crosstalk 01:05:55] Sampson [Dili] (01:05:55): Oh. Oh. Stace [Nix] (01:05:57): Strengthen. It can help strengthen because you got to hold it in. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:00): Oh, [inaudible 00:20: 03]energy was a bad word, then. [crosstalk 01:06:07] Holy shit. Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:09): Wait, what are you guys talking about? Now you have to tell me. Stace [Nix] (01:06:13): They do lose their shine, Dili. They do lose their shine. [Crosstalk 01:06:16]. Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:18): What loses its shine? Stace [Nix] (01:06:18): Jade eggs, Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:20): Oh. So Dr. Oz is that kind of person. I see. Stace [Nix] (01:06:27): I don't understand, Atalia. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:29): High profile consultation. Stace [Nix] (01:06:31): High profile wellness, Dili. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:33): Wellness, damn it! Stace [Nix] (01:06:34): I can't believe you forgot again! Daniel [GM] (01:06:36): Dr. Oz has a lifestyle brand that she manages as well as her medical practice. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:41): Oh, we should have asked about goop. Damn it. [crosstalk 01:06:45] Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:47): That's what she promotes. Jade eggs. This whole thing is a goop joke. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:51): Oh, shit. [crosstalk 01:06:53] See, I only know the brand. Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:56): We'll add an asterisk and some news articles for reference. Sampson [Dili] (01:07:00): Guys, I don't go onto Twitter that often. I think my life is better for it. I want to interact with the fans, but... Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:06): That's why you should come hang out in the Discord. Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:10): All right guys, I didn't do a reckless thing. So I need positive reinforcement for that, first of all. Sampson [Dili] (01:07:16): What? You didn't go in? Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:18): No, I went in, but I did not steal the notes because I think she reads them every day. Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:23): She's been seeing your mom a lot. Pretty sure that's your mom on the calendar there. I looked at that calendar book and then they came in and took the book right after I left, it was like, "Wow, I'm really glad I left when I did." Sampson [Dili] (01:07:36): Oh. Well, what did you learn? Stace [Nix] (01:07:38): You were still in the room when they came in? Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:40): I had left the room. I just left the room when they came in and got the calendar book. Stace [Nix] (01:07:45): Cutting it close, Atalia. What did you learn? Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:48): Oh, well I learned that she's been seeing your mom on the regs since she's been locked up at Yoldi Tower. Yeah. So... Stace [Nix] (01:07:57): That's good. Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:57): It's the same initials as from the appointments when she saw your mom, I matched it up to that one appointment that you told us about. Anyway. Stace [Nix] (01:08:05): That's really kind of her to continue to treat my mom while she's in prison. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:10): Dear... She's not treating your mom! Stace [Nix] (01:08:13): Well, she's taking the dark energy. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:15): Okay. Well, I don't think she's helping your mother. I think you need to get out of your head that this woman is helping you in any capacity and is not just utilizing you for her own benefit. Stace [Nix] (01:08:26): But if she's not helping my mom, that means that we gave her a lot of money and bankrupted ourselves for no reason. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:32): Okay, so then don't you want fuck this chick up and get her shit, so that you can have some money back? If she's Miss Jade Egg Candle lady, I think she's doing just fine. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:43): I'm just saying denials are only going to get you so far, and I don't think this lady should be allowed to get away with it, you know? Stace [Nix] (01:08:50): Well, that's fine, Atalia, but I just want to keep in mind that our ultimate goal is to free my parents. Stace [Nix] (01:08:56): Oh my God. She visits every three days? New plan! [crosstalk 00:01:09:00]. Marietta [Atalia] (01:09:02): All the time. [crosstalk 01:09:02] Stace [Nix] (01:09:02): Dili disguises himself as Dr. Oz! Stace [Nix] (01:09:03): ... disguises himself as Doctaraz [phonetic 01:09:05] . Marietta [Atalia] (01:09:05): Or I do. Stace [Nix] (01:09:05): Are you capable of disguise? Marietta [Atalia] (01:09:08): Maybe not, but I would be capable of getting us out of there if I was in. Sampson [Dili] (01:09:10): I can disguise one of us as Doctaraz and the other two is like servants or something. I should not be Doctaraz because I clearly didn't know what the jade egg it was for, so I should not do the talking. Stace [Nix] (01:09:21): Well, I mean really only a very few people know what the jade egg is for. There are alternative uses for the jade egg. You probably could get by, Dili. Sampson [Dili] (01:09:30): Let's not take the chance. Also, Dan what reputation does the Tower have for the armies of Stromand [phonetic 01:09:38]? Is it a hardcore prison? Is it just like a holding cell? What's up with it? Daniel [GM] (01:09:44): It is a scary prison. Sometimes people go in and they don't come back out. Sometimes people do go in and they come back out. It is very much shrouded in dread and mystery. The Tower is a place where people go where you don't ask questions about them. Sampson [Dili] (01:10:02): Also, the Tower, fuck, right? Like, holy shit. Hey, you know who would probably know a way to get into the Tower? Mama J. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:12): Yeah. Why don't we go to our evening meeting? Sampson [Dili] (01:10:16): Dan, what time is it? Still early morning? Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:18): It's 2:00 P.M. Daniel [GM] (01:10:20): It's early afternoon at this point. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:22): We could go get tapas. Sampson [Dili] (01:10:23): We could go to Mr. E's cart. Daniel [GM] (01:10:26): Yeah. It's not that you have to do something to fill this time. I'm just making you aware that you have time before the evening. Stace [Nix] (01:10:33): Wait, aren't we going to check on ChaCha? Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:39): Do you know where ChaCha went, because I don't know where ChaCha went? Sampson [Dili] (01:10:40): Actually do you think Jesski [phonetic 01:10:42] could like find her, like with the gnomes? Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:44): Do we have a ChaCha item with us? Sampson [Dili] (01:10:47): Nix, you've got to have something. Daniel [GM] (01:10:48): Jesski is currently like rolling around on her back, like scraping her crystals against the ground and tongue rolling out the side. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:57): Jesski. Sampson [Dili] (01:10:57): She's so precious. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:02): Have you ever, have you guys ever met a seskey [phonetic 01:11:04] like this before? Are all seskeys [phonetic 01:11:05] like this? Sampson [Dili] (01:11:06): I mean, the loyalty is pretty spot on, but I not this much dirt, no. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:12): She does dirt very good. Sampson [Dili] (01:11:14): Also, super quiet. I sometimes forget she's here. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:17): She has some mad dexterity, man. Sampson [Dili] (01:11:19): But yeah, besides that seems like a typical seskey [phonetic 01:11:25] I think. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:25): Okay. Jesski, do you think you can find ChaCha? Daniel [GM] (01:11:30): Jesski looks at you and wags her tail kind of slowly but unsurely, like excited but clearly not really understanding what you're asking her to do. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:40): Yeah. I think we need to talk to Mama Jaron. As lovely as Jesski is we have no... Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:45): I'll take something off ChaCha the next time we see her in case this happens again, but I don't have a dirty sock or anything. Sampson [Dili] (01:11:53): Hasn't ChaCha used her clothes to stop a wound on Nix or somebody? Did that happened? Daniel [GM] (01:12:02): He did help with some bandaging on somebody, but those bandages probably smell more like the person who was wounded at this point than they do of ChaCha. Stace [Nix] (01:12:12): Has ChaCha ever given Nix anything besides the money? Daniel [GM] (01:12:16): Just the money that I'm aware of. Stace [Nix] (01:12:17): He gave her the bag. Well, I guess we don't know what ChaCha smells like. Daniel [GM] (01:12:22): So you guys have some options, you've got some time to kill. You could either try to look for ChaCha, you could try to do further investigation, you know that Doctaraz is probably on her way back home at some point here, or you could go check out the Tower, you could do all sorts of things. You could try to look for the automaton. You could case out Gemma's site. You could do all sorts of things. Stace [Nix] (01:12:51): My personal dream is that we encounter the automaton on a dusty, desolate, deserted street wild west style. It wears a cowboy hat. Atalia is being very weird about her mom, so probably not Gemma's. Marietta [Atalia] (01:13:07): I just don't think it's going to help us with your family situation and I would rather have [inaudible 01:13:13] Sampson [Dili] (01:13:13): I actually had a question about your thing, and don't get weird, but how would your mom know that you are involved with Tamara's death? Marietta [Atalia] (01:13:24): You think Tamara didn't tell my mom the second she became my handler? Sampson [Dili] (01:13:30): I wasn't quite there, but it sounds like Nix killed Tamara before Tamara really had a chance to tell anybody. Marietta [Atalia] (01:13:38): I'd already been in contact with Tamara for a couple of days. I just feel like there's no way my mom didn't know. I don't know. I don't know anything about their dynamic, I don't know what's going on with my mother, I really don't even care. Stace [Nix] (01:13:50): Listen Atalia, first of all when I killed Tamara, I killed Tamara, I also hide her body. Marietta [Atalia] (01:13:59): Like it's still there? Like how good? Stace [Nix] (01:14:01): Fuck if I know. I hope not. Marietta [Atalia] (01:14:03): Did you like bury at 10 feet below the ground and perfectly concealed the ground to look as though it wasn't disturbed? Stace [Nix] (01:14:08): No, I put it in some trash. Marietta [Atalia] (01:14:10): Yeah, exactly. I'm sure that her body has been found by now. Sampson [Dili] (01:14:13): Hey, it's Ward Calo, so who's to say. Stace [Nix] (01:14:17): I think it was in Ward Ana, actually. Daniel [GM] (01:14:19): It was Ward Ana where the auction was happening. Stace [Nix] (01:14:22): Atalia, I'm starting to think maybe you have some hangups related to your mother. Marietta [Atalia] (01:14:27): Oh really? It's like she abandoned me when I was a child. Yeah, no, I don't want to go. Stace [Nix] (01:14:35): Are you sure you don't just want her to have kept tabs on you, Atalia? Marietta [Atalia] (01:14:39): Look, even when my mom was around, she really wasn't around. She was a very shit mom. I would prefer it to never have contact with her or see her again. My grandmother Wyn is like so much better. I wasn't kidding when I said I'd rather hang out with grandma than mom, of course. Stace [Nix] (01:14:55): What makes you think your mom would start caring now about what you do? Marietta [Atalia] (01:14:59): Why did she bother to send a letter to me if it wasn't over Tamara or the situation we're in right now? Stace [Nix] (01:15:05): She sent a letter? Like she'd put it in the mail? Sampson [Dili] (01:15:08): Also, what happens when you don't show up and then she comes to find you again? This may be your chance to say like, "Hey, fuck off," and then you never see her again. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:19): We just already had another meeting scheduled. Like she did not consult my calendar. Clearly she has no respect for who I am as an individual, so why should I show up for her fucking meeting? Daniel [GM] (01:15:29): She couldn't even be bothered to use the scheduling assistant in Outlook. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:31): Hash. Stace [Nix] (01:15:32): Wait, there's a scheduling assistant and Outlook? Daniel [GM] (01:15:35): Yeah. Stace [Nix] (01:15:35): I've got to tell everybody at my work so they can fucking use it. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:41): We apologize if anyone from Stace's work is listening to the podcast right now. Sampson [Dili] (01:15:45): Also, thank you for listening if you are. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:47): Yeah. Thank you. We're happy you're here. Daniel [GM] (01:15:50): Thank you for listening if you work with Stace. Stace [Nix] (01:15:54): Atalia, I think really you should take some space and maybe think through some things before you act rashly, because you're all over the place today. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:03): I'm all over the place? I've been pretty concise on just being like, "That's cool that you want things from me. I want nothing to do with you," that seems reasonable. Sampson [Dili] (01:16:12): Actually, I agree with Atalia. She's been pretty on the ball and chill, I would think, I would say. She didn't steal notes off a desk when she totally could have. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:22): Yeah. I thought you'd be really proud of me. Stace [Nix] (01:16:25): Atalia, I'm always proud of you. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:27): Well, it doesn't feel like it sometimes. Stace [Nix] (01:16:30): It's just because I know that you're going to be the best thief this city has ever seen, Atalia- Sampson [Dili] (01:16:37): Or not seen. Stace [Nix] (01:16:38): ... if you remember to put your hood up. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:39): I just want to be more than that, though. Okay. Anyways, that's fine. Stace [Nix] (01:16:43): You're going to be the best nano this city has never seen. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:48): Yeah. Yeah. So do you want to try to jump Doctaraz when she's coming home or do you want to... Stace [Nix] (01:16:56): Not yet. I think that we have enough materials here that we should go through them. Marietta [Atalia] (01:17:01): Because I could not translate all of her notes. I would have had to take them. Stace [Nix] (01:17:06): No. Yeah. It's totally understandable. Maybe we should go just take a peek at the Tower. Marietta [Atalia] (01:17:11): Yeah. We could do like a large, long loop and do a little boat scoping. Stace [Nix] (01:17:16): I wonder if they do tours. What is it, Dili? Sampson [Dili] (01:17:19): I've always wanted to do the night tour there. Maybe the Tower is haunted. Daniel [GM] (01:17:24): The ghost tour. Sampson [Dili] (01:17:27): They do that at Alcatraz I think, they may have stopped doing tours of Alcatraz at night. Stace [Nix] (01:17:32): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (01:17:33): They do a super elaborate haunted house at Eastern Penitentiary here in Pennsylvania. It's crazy. It's this like gothic prison out here. Sampson [Dili] (01:17:42): Also Atalia, I think we only need to meet Mama J at evening and your mom seems like the kind of midnight, one o'clock in the morning meets. Marietta [Atalia] (01:17:52): Yeah. So why don't we go meet with Mama Jaron and be like, "Hey look what I got," and she could be like, "Ooh, maybe it would be advantageous if you went," or she can be like, "Yeah, you don't really need to go." Sampson [Dili] (01:18:00): Atalia, if you don't want to go I feel like it should be because you don't want to go. Stace [Nix] (01:18:05): What would you regret more? Sampson [Dili] (01:18:07): Tell your mom to fuck off. Marietta [Atalia] (01:18:09): I just don't get tangled up in it again. I just don't want anything to do with her. Sampson [Dili] (01:18:14): It's too fucking late. Somebody gets tangled up in shit. It's too late. Marietta [Atalia] (01:18:19): Okay. Well, I'll think about it. I'll take some time and I'll think about it, but I would like to talk to Mama Jaron first. That seems very reasonable. Daniel [GM] (01:18:27): "I'm curious about this Mama J, dear," you hear a voice from behind you in the shadows as Gema steps out in the alley. And that's where we'll end this episode. Sampson [Dili] (01:18:40): Fucking Gema. Marietta [Atalia] (01:18:43): I was wondering when I'd see grandma again. Daniel [GM] (01:18:46): Okay. So Marietta no, not Marietta. Yeah, Marietta, something about this episode? Marietta [Atalia] (01:18:54): I liked the notes instead of taking them, even though she knows that she could've gotten more information out of it because it was the not giving away it thing. Anyways. Daniel [GM] (01:19:03): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:05): She's grown. There's been some character development. Daniel [GM] (01:19:09): Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Very cool. We have a segment that we do each week called, Player Intrusions, that's where we offer you an XP to check out something that we think you would really dig. This week it is my turn. I will offer you all an XP if you check out the book series, The Laundry Files by Charlie Stross. The Laundry Files is a... Daniel [GM] (01:19:33): Imagine all the cosmic horror stuff that you've heard about is real and it is moving towards an apocalypse and that there are specialized intelligence agencies that are designed to deal with it. But those intelligence agencies are as mired in bureaucracy as you would expect. So The Laundry Files follows the laundry, which is a British occult intelligence agency where they have found out that magic is essentially just computational. So demonology and things like that is essentially a branch of mathematics and computer science. And it is these agents who have to solve for these things to try to avoid the eventual apocalypse conditions of these cosmic horrors while at the same time dealing with their expense reports and the scariest thing in the organization, which is the auditors. Daniel [GM] (01:20:32): The series follows several main characters. The first few books follow the stories of Bob Howard who is tasked with both field work in this as well as information technology support within the agency because they are chronically understaffed. And it's really brilliant. It like bounces a line between being sort of serious drama as well as also almost a satire of it. Daniel [GM] (01:21:02): Each book is sort of patterned off of a historical, not historical, but a previously famous spy novel and storyline except it's then placed with that. The first book in the series is called The Atrocity Archives, which is really a collection of short stories. I would actually recommend you start off with the second book in the series, which is like a complete novel called The Jennifer Morgue where Bob Howard is being sent totally unprepared to essentially try to deal with like a James Bond level issue with a megalomaniac that's trying to surface things from the deep ones, deep beneath the sea that are currently in various treaties with the different governments. It's really good. It's both funny and really clever and the way things go on you really feel for the characters. Daniel [GM] (01:21:55): Bob Howard is the protagonist of the first few books and then there's at least one book that his wife is the protagonist, who's also an amazing agent. She is Dominique and she carries essentially a violin, basically the violin of Erich Zahn that is made of bone and sinew and things like that and is a sentient creature of its own right. She's like a super weapon that they send out to investigate things. Later on there are a couple of other agents that you get to know of, like minor characters from the first books that become major players. Daniel [GM] (01:22:36): It's a really elaborate series. It might be up to six books now, but it's really fun. I love them a lot. They're quick reads and they are just kind of fun. If you've ever read Charlie Stross he's really good. He's done a lot of great, like hard sci-fi and then he's also done these Laundry Files, which are sort of cosmic horror meets bureaucratic satire meets classic spy novels. Daniel [GM] (01:23:08): And it's really good because you get into also not just the tensions between these occult players and the government but also the different occult agencies across the country. So there's the Laundry in the UK, which is very bureaucratic and very much very Cold War and then you have the Black Chamber in the US which is very secretive, it might be just as bad as anything else. And they're dealing with these occult threats beyond space time, all trying to avoid what they call Case Nightmare Green, which is the ultimate apocalypse when the stars align and everything comes. And that's the other problem is that magic, since it's computational, there's the risk that they always have to be monitoring people because if somebody has too great a breakthrough in mathematics they could be actually sounding something into the world and they need to track them down and bring them in and things like that. Daniel [GM] (01:24:07): It's a really fun series of novels. I highly recommend it. Once again, I'd recommend starting with The Jennifer Morgue because it's kind of got sort of a classic Bond style framework, which is easy for you to group into it. But the rest of the books are amazing as well. I highly recommend it. The Archives has some great short stories around like Christmas time and unicorns, which in this world are really scary and disgusting and freaky and all sorts of other things. So I highly recommend The Laundry Files by Charlie Stross. Sampson [Dili] (01:24:46): That's fucking dope. Daniel [GM] (01:24:48): Yeah. It's good. It's good. Has anybody else read The Laundry Archives at all? Marietta [Atalia] (01:24:53): One day I'll read it again. Sampson [Dili] (01:24:55): The closest I got was listening to a few episodes of the Magnus Archives, which is kind of what this sounds like, but in book form, more James Bondy. Daniel [GM] (01:25:03): Yeah. A little different. I think you would dig a lot of the later books, Sampson, but I think The Jennifer Morge is the best jumping off place. Yes. So read The Laundry Archives. I will give you an XP for it. And the latest book just came out for it or will come out very close. There's so many books in the series now it's going fast. And Charlie Stross is amazing. He's written a lot of great, like I mentioned, hard sci-fi stuff like Saturn's Children about AI entities after humanity has disappeared trying to find meaning amongst themselves. And he wrote Singularity Sky about different types of AI. He's a brilliant author and some of his books, especially later on in The Laundry Archives, some of the political stuff that comes involved with these occult things rising have very scary analogs to what we see in modern politics. He's really brilliant at weeding that stuff together. Daniel [GM] (01:25:59): Anyway, if people wanted to reach out to us to tell us what they think of the podcast or about The Laundry Files if they've read them, how would they do that Marietta? Marietta [Atalia] (01:26:07): Well, if they were wise they would just go to our website, exploreswanted.fm, they would find links to all of the following. We are active on social media. You can find us on Twitter at Explores Wanted. We are also on Instagram Explores Wanted podcasts. We have a Facebook page, Explorers Wanted podcasts on there as well. And then if you're looking to support us financially, which would be extremely helpful to help us reach some goals we have with furthering our content for you, we have a Patreon. Obviously, if that is something that is accessible to you we would really appreciate that. We are Explores Wanted on Patreon and we have a variety of tiers and stretch goals and you'd get things like letters from cast. And we are hoping to do another campaign one day, maybe, we'll see. Stace [Nix] (01:26:53): Do you mean the journals? Marietta [Atalia] (01:26:54): Journals. Stace [Nix] (01:26:55): Are we writing people letters? Marietta [Atalia] (01:26:56): Journals. Journals. Daniel [GM] (01:26:57): She means the charter journals. Marietta [Atalia] (01:26:59): I mean he character journals. Anyway, our Patreon is a way to support us. We would appreciate that if you can, obviously. And then really the best thing you can do for us, if you want to hang out with us, interact with us and give us feedback and tell us what you think and feel and show us pictures of your dogs or your plants, come hang out with us on our Discord. There are links to our Discord channel on all of our social medias and our website and that is where we were most active. And we're still getting some new people to come hang out with us and that feels really good. I love the community we have built on there. Still getting more people in our Discord. We're growing. Daniel [GM] (01:27:40): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (01:27:41): Come grow with us. Daniel [GM] (01:27:42): It's like we're a real show with people who enjoy it. Sampson [Dili] (01:27:46): Oh, fuck. Marietta [Atalia] (01:27:48): It's kind of crazy, actually. Daniel [GM] (01:27:50): It is. It is. We are both humbled and delighted- Stace [Nix] (01:27:54): And emboldened. Daniel [GM] (01:27:56): ... at the community. Marietta [Atalia] (01:27:57): We're really excited to have this community. Daniel [GM] (01:28:01): Yes. Everybody should be scared when Stace says emboldened. Marietta [Atalia] (01:28:05): Should be afraid, definitely. Daniel [GM] (01:28:07): Yes. But if you like the podcast one of the best things you can do for us is to tell a friend and tell them what you like about the show and why they should listen to it. The second best thing that you could do for us is to leave us a five star review on a podcast directory, specifically Apple Podcasts, Pod Chaser, and Stitcher. Those written five star reviews make a big difference to people trying out the podcast. The actual play podcast market, for lack of a better word, is there's so many shows and so those reviews make a huge difference when people are looking through and trying to figure out, should I give this show a shot, because we understand an hour is a big commitment for people. But we actually have some new five star reviews. We have a new one. Stace, tell us about that. Stace [Nix] (01:28:54): Yeah. Pugjellyfish left us a five star review on iTunes titled, "Explorers Wanted is RPGing at its best. These are friends creating a story together and having a lot of fun along the way. Numenera is a great game and this gang does it proud with their quirky characters and engaging encounters. Whether you're a player, GM, or just enjoy storytelling and good times, this podcast is for you." Daniel [GM] (01:29:18): Awesome. Thank you so much for that review. Stace [Nix] (01:29:20): Yes, thank you. Also, Pugjellyfish is a dope name. Daniel [GM] (01:29:25): Yeah, it's very good. So, thank you so much. Those reviews make a huge difference. If you didn't like the podcast or if you just felt it was meh, well, I'd like to remind you, this is coming out amidst the winter holidays and here are the end of this hellish year of 2020 I hope you can find some warmth and light. Ignore the scraping sound coming from your rooftop or the moaning from the lower floors. Those things aren't real, but they are hungry, hungry and so very patient. If you'd like to reach out to us individually on social media, you can. You can find me on Twitter at Andrlik, A-N-D-R-L-I-K. Stace [Nix] (01:30:04): You can find me on Twitter at Stacewindu. Daniel [GM] (01:30:07): And wish me happy winter holiday at Slampotato. Speaker 2 (01:30:11): If you have also started playing Genshin Impact and are really confused at what's happening, but are just like, everyone is so adorable, tweet at me at Realityunicorn. Marietta [Atalia] (01:30:22): You can tell me where to find the best LED Christmas lights at imonakike. Daniel [GM] (01:30:28): Okay. That's it for us. Hope you enjoyed the show. Have a good night day, afternoon, weekend, whenever you listened to this and bye. Marietta [Atalia] (01:30:35): Bye. Stace [Nix] (01:30:35): Bye. Sampson [Dili] (01:30:35): Bye. Speaker 2 (01:30:35): Bye.
