Daniel [GM] (00:00:30): Welcome to Explorers Wanted. We are a weekly Numenera Actual Play podcast. I will be your humble GM, Daniel Andrlik. With me today is Alex Finn. Alex [ChaCha] (00:00:41): Hi. Daniel [GM] (00:00:43): Sampson Davis. Sampson [Dili] (00:00:44): All hail to [inaudible 00:00:44]. Daniel [GM] (00:00:45): Marietta Jones. Marietta [Atalia] (00:00:47): Oh, hello. Daniel [GM] (00:00:48): And, Stace Babcock. Stace [Nix] (00:00:50): Pop quiz, Sampson. What happened last time? Sampson [Dili] (00:00:57): Bugs happened, and you got us lost. That's what happened last time. Stace [Nix] (00:00:59): No. I think in that shaft, we found ourselves. Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:05): When we got shafted, we found ourselves. Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:08): Are you referring to the proverbial we? Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:11): More like the royal we. Marietta [Atalia] (00:01:15): Oh okay. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:16): Yeah. Those tunnels where the ship was literally trying to turn you all to ash because you were obstructing the airflow. Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:22): Yeah. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:23): Nix. Although, that's really all the episode before that. Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:30): Dang. Sampson [Dili] (00:01:30): Which might be the most important thing that happened there, is ChaCha going up and kicking Nix in the shin. Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:35): Yeah. And y'all didn't say no to that, so ChaCha has now learned it's okay to kick people in the shin when there's been a disagreement. I hope you're happy what this child is learning. Stace [Nix] (00:01:49): Nix is going to have a long talk with ChaCha about affirmative consent. Alex [ChaCha] (00:01:53): After she kicked Dili. Daniel [GM] (00:01:56): Dili's had a rough enough time. He doesn't need to be kicked. So, before we get started today, we have an important item of business and that is, we have a new patron. Sampson [Dili] (00:02:08): Right. Alex [ChaCha] (00:02:09): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:02:09): Yeah. Sorry. That, was genuine excitement. I'm very excited. I'm so hyped. Sampson [Dili] (00:02:15): So hard, what? Marietta [Atalia] (00:02:16): Hyped. Daniel [GM] (00:02:17): Our newest patron is Andrea. Andrea has joined us. She's been in our Discord for a little bit now. She is Andreajdav on Twitter, and she has also produced some awesome fan art for us of Nix carrying ChaCha around, with ChaCha barefoot, with her fist in the air excitedly. Alex [ChaCha] (00:02:40): Saying "Fuck yeah." Stace [Nix] (00:02:42): It was really cool to see. Marietta [Atalia] (00:02:44): It makes us feel like the most special. Alex [ChaCha] (00:02:48): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Daniel [GM] (00:02:48): It was fun seeing an image of Nix with the green hair. Marietta [Atalia] (00:02:52): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:02:53): Thank you so much, Andrea, for the fan art, for hanging out, and also for your support, it means the world to us. Alex [ChaCha] (00:03:00): Thank you. Daniel [GM] (00:03:02): But yeah, pop quiz, Samson. What happened last time on Explorers Wanted? Sampson [Dili] (00:03:06): Last time, the ship finally got to Charmonde, but is now in a holding pattern above the city. Although it got noticed, so we had to do something about that. Last episode started with us finding the breach in the ship that we were looking for, and we found that it was covered in hurik juice. So, we decided to split the party. ChaCha and Dili go to cargo Bay. Nix and Atalia go to the bridge. In the cargo Bay, we found that the huriks had laid a bunch of eggs in the carts, something Nix had apparently missed quite a few episodes ago. Way to go, Nix. Stace [Nix] (00:03:42): I just wonder if it's like a salmon-type situation. Marietta [Atalia] (00:03:45): Or were you just missing hooks doing the nasty? Sampson [Dili] (00:03:49): Like they laid the eggs and then there was like a mist? Marietta [Atalia] (00:03:52): Right. Sampson [Dili] (00:03:53): Oh, okay. Stace [Nix] (00:03:54): Yeah, I'm sorry. I was nodding. Yes. That's what I'm talking about. Sampson [Dili] (00:04:00): Maybe. I don't know. Wind was blowing the wrong way, that's why you didn't notice. Marietta [Atalia] (00:04:03): [inaudible 00:04:03] . Sampson [Dili] (00:04:07): Anyway. Yeah. So, when Nix and Natalia get to the bridge, while the Dili and ChaCha are doing their thing, they find that the city is mobilizing down below because some ship has showed up in the middle of their airspace, so that's a thing. Atalia figures out that there is a teleportation system, but it is offline. It needs a few parts. Dili and ChaCha, meanwhile, are heading back to the bridge when they get attacked by real huriks and also robot huriks, because they were in the copying room basically. As it is, Dili runs, and Nix enters the fight. Then we win, and then we find out that there are 35 huriks left on the ship. That was it. That was the stinger. Daniel [GM] (00:04:48): Yeah. So, you guys have just heard that announcement from Stannis that says, "I think I figured out how to find the huriks. Four of them just died, but it looks like there are about 35 more of them all throughout the ship." Marietta [Atalia] (00:05:01): Great. That seems great. Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:04): ChaCha would like to kick Dili in the shin. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:07): Ow. What? Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:08): You can't just leave me in the fight. That's not how we do things. Remember, we yelled at Atalia for doing that. You can't just leave. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:16): Why didn't you leave with me? Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:16): They were going to chase us and corner us. You don't go into a [inaudible 00:05:20]. That's how you die in the wilderness when you're pooping in the forest. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:24): Huh. Not that Dili would anything about that because he refused to poop outside the city. Marietta [Atalia] (00:05:29): Constantly constipated. Daniel [GM] (00:05:33): It's why Dili is so grumpy. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:37): That's why he waddles. Marietta [Atalia] (00:05:38): It all makes sense now. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:39): He's actually a very fast runner, he's just clenching. But we were so close to Nix, and Nix saved us, so it's fine. So, we'll let Nix handle it. Nix did handle it. Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:52): You don't use Stannis as bait until you have to use Stannis as bait. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:52): Stannis bait? Alex [ChaCha] (00:05:56): We're saving Stannis for ultimate bait when we need it. Sampson [Dili] (00:05:56): Cool. Daniel [GM] (00:05:59): "Okay, guys. I think I got it figured out," Stannis says as she walks into the room. And says, "I think, I mean, there are a bunch of these things. Also, there's something weird still complaining about that breach you guys went to go look at. It's still blinking back there. I don't know if you were trying to do something to it, or if you just looked at it and turned around and came back." Alex [ChaCha] (00:06:24): We just looked at it because Nix missed the huriks having sex. Daniel [GM] (00:06:27): Oh, so that's what happened. Okay. God. How do you miss that? Alex [ChaCha] (00:06:33): They're pretty big, so you would think that she would look at them and be like, "Oh damn, they're having sex on the cart." Daniel [GM] (00:06:39): Yeah. I mean, everything I've heard is that they're pretty loud when they're mating. Marietta [Atalia] (00:06:42): [inaudible 00:06:42] and just throwing shade. Stace [Nix] (00:06:46): Huriks need loving too. Sampson [Dili] (00:06:50): I feel like this is off-topic, but where are 35 huriks that you mentioned? Are they in one central location or just around? Daniel [GM] (00:06:58): No. They seem to just be wandering the ship in groups. Packs, you might say. Alex [ChaCha] (00:07:03): I think we need to kill them before they have sex again. Stace [Nix] (00:07:06): Guys, I'm going to be honest with you. I think we should probably just concentrate on getting off of this ship because I'm really starting to consider that parachute thing that ChaCha has. The only reason I'm not is it might, if we can teleport, it'll be faster than me trying to fly down there and land outside the city and get in. Sampson [Dili] (00:07:29): Did you guys find a way to teleport us out? Marietta [Atalia] (00:07:31): I've found a teleportation mechanism that's on the ship but it needs to be repaired. Do I know how long it will take if I could repair it, or what it would take to do that? Daniel [GM] (00:07:44): That's the kind of thing you'd probably need to consult with a wright for. Stace [Nix] (00:07:47): If only we knew a wright. Marietta [Atalia] (00:07:49): Man, a wright might be really helpful for repairing- Sampson [Dili] (00:07:54): You want me to look at it? I can just look at it. Marietta [Atalia] (00:07:56): Yeah. I can maybe look at it with you. Sometimes I'm really good at making things work. Stace [Nix] (00:08:02): Me too. Daniel [GM] (00:08:02): So what you did, though, Marietta, what you were able to figure out from, this stuff just as a reminder from last episode, is that essentially what it needs is this device that sort of operates as a capacitor that also... It basically keeps the power coming from the heart of the ship, which it needs in order to teleport, but this thing essentially provides some buffer to the systems so that it doesn't destroy the teleportation circuits when that power comes through. Essentially, you're trying to, you know that what Dili needs to somehow help you do, whether it's finding something on the ship that could do it or trying to build something from scratch around it, is some sort of intermediary battery to help provide buffer to the systems. Marietta [Atalia] (00:08:50): I summarize that really efficiently to Dili. Sampson [Dili] (00:08:55): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:08:56): Jeskii just goes, "Woof." Marietta [Atalia] (00:08:57): Yes. Sampson [Dili] (00:08:58): [inaudible 00:08:58] point, Jeskii. Marietta [Atalia] (00:09:00): Can you do it right, Dili? Sampson [Dili] (00:09:02): All right. Can you or Nix, or maybe even ChaCha crank open some of these copy androids we have running around? They might have a battery that we could use. Alex [ChaCha] (00:09:11): ChaCha starts busting up the hurik copies. Daniel [GM] (00:09:15): Okay. ChaCha, roll me one D6. Alex [ChaCha] (00:09:15): Six. Daniel [GM] (00:09:19): Okay. You don't anything that's an obvious battery, but you do find what could be six cyphers. Alex [ChaCha] (00:09:25): Woo. Sampson [Dili] (00:09:27): Oh. Damn. Stace [Nix] (00:09:29): Oh, Daniel, you do care. Marietta [Atalia] (00:09:33): Daniel's like, "Finally, they're looking for things for Dili to use to build. Oh my gosh, I must reward them." Daniel [GM] (00:09:44): Okay, so the first cypher is a temporal mine. Once set, any pressure activates it. It paralyzes the activator by freezing them in time for a number of time equal to the cypher level. So, roll one D6 plus two. Stace [Nix] (00:10:02): Plus two. Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:04): Damn. Stace [Nix] (00:10:04): A two hour minimum. Alex [ChaCha] (00:10:06): Six. Stace [Nix] (00:10:07): I guess it's a three hour minimum. Daniel [GM] (00:10:09): So, this will freeze whoever activates it in time for eight hours. While they're in that stasis, they're immune to damage and do not age. Alex [ChaCha] (00:10:18): Part of me wants give it to Dili, but the other half of me remembers caustic storm. Sampson [Dili] (00:10:23): You weren't there for that. Alex [ChaCha] (00:10:26): Alex, the player, remembers. Stace [Nix] (00:10:28): ChaCha remembers the aftermath. Alex [ChaCha] (00:10:30): Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:10:31): It's hard to forget because it's so visible. Alex [ChaCha] (00:10:33): It's a constant reminder. Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:35): Atalia spontaneously twitches. Daniel [GM] (00:10:39): Yeah. Jeskii paws at her own snout. Marietta [Atalia] (00:10:45): Oh, Jeskii. Daniel [GM] (00:10:45): So, the next cypher is something. It is like a small container of fluid that could be extruded. It is what is called "No paint," as in N, O. Applying this paint to a non-living object smaller that a person makes it transparent to light, rendering it invisible for one hour, after which the paint flakes and falls away. Alex [ChaCha] (00:11:08): In all seriousness, there will be a "I want this" where people, if you think of one that you really want, just say, "Yes, me." Marietta [Atalia] (00:11:16): I can carry two. Alex [ChaCha] (00:11:18): Just saying. Daniel [GM] (00:11:19): This one sounds like a Dili special. It's called "Flesh eater." It bursts in an immediate radius, eating away any organic matter that it comes into contact with. Living creatures take damage equal to the cypher's level, so roll one D6, Sampson. Sampson [Dili] (00:11:37): Four. Daniel [GM] (00:11:38): So, it does four damage. Stace [Nix] (00:11:40): Could be worse. Daniel [GM] (00:11:41): Wow. Okay, this is awesome. Portable bio-lab. Inside this device is a complex, self-sustaining ecosystem that creates a useful compound plant or creature. When it's activated, this device releases a red speckled mushroom, that when licked causes the user's mind to open, decreasing the difficulty of all skills related to perception, telepathy, and telekinetics by one step for 28 hours. Alex [ChaCha] (00:12:11): I kind of want to take that one for ChaCha. Stace [Nix] (00:12:13): Seems like a real ChaCha thing. Alex [ChaCha] (00:12:15): All the drugs and stuff. Daniel [GM] (00:12:17): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:18): Can you potentially drop the [inaudible 00:12:21] Discord later? Sampson [Dili] (00:12:22): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:12:23): Maybe. Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:23): To take pictures maybe? Stace [Nix] (00:12:25): Pictures are for the week. Marietta [Atalia] (00:12:26): Sometimes it's just really hard to write down all the wording. Daniel [GM] (00:12:32): Tether, fires a metal spike at a target within range that inflicts two points of damage. Then, as part of the same action, the spikes shoots a second metal spike at a different target within an immediate range of it that inflicts the same damage. The spikes are connected by a tether. Until either target uses an action to remove the spike, neither target can move away from the other. Stace [Nix] (00:12:52): Yeah. What's up? Alex [ChaCha] (00:12:59): My brain just went, "Wow. That's an extreme child leash." Sampson [Dili] (00:13:02): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:13:04): Oh. Last but not least, a mist animator. It allows the user to control the movement and shape of a gaseous substance. The amount of gas can not be increased or decreased, but it can be moved a short distance in a single round, be reshaped so that the mist envelops selected targets, or be dispersed harmlessly. The animator functions for one minute. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:27): Kind of like that for Atalia. All the sneaky snake. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:31): You should probably also get the No-fluid. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:33): True. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:34): Because the thief should definitely have invisible paint. Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:36): True. Stace [Nix] (00:13:36): But it's only for inanimate objects, so she has to paint her clothes or something. Sampson [Dili] (00:13:42): She can have an invisible knife. Alex [ChaCha] (00:13:44): Oh, or Dili could have it for hiding in it. It'd be like- Marietta [Atalia] (00:13:48): Just paint a bucket. Stace [Nix] (00:13:51): I'm just thinking if your clothes are invisible, yourself still are organic matter, so I don't know if that would actually work. Daniel [GM] (00:13:56): It would make the clothes invisible, and then Atalia would just be wandering around naked, essentially. Stace [Nix] (00:14:03): Perceptibly, but not actually. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:05): I do want to paint it on skin now, though, to see if you see through, or if you see inside. Daniel [GM] (00:14:12): It doesn't work on living matter. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:14): Oh, okay. Stace [Nix] (00:14:14): It's just for things. Alex [ChaCha] (00:14:15): But, like, can you paint it on a blanket and hide underneath a tarp? Stace [Nix] (00:14:19): It's see-through, though. Daniel [GM] (00:14:20): Well, then the blanket would be see-through. It only makes the blanket transparent to light. Alex [ChaCha] (00:14:24): Oh. Stace [Nix] (00:14:25): You could paint a weapon, though. Daniel [GM] (00:14:28): What it would be good for is, say if you wanted to paint, say, your temporal mine to make it invisible, so that nobody can see it when you've set it. Alex [ChaCha] (00:14:37): Modern problems, modern [inaudible 00:14:40]. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:42): Was the flesh-eater four points of damage total or per round? Daniel [GM] (00:14:47): It's just one blast that happens, so it's just four points total for each creature within the immediate blast. Sampson [Dili] (00:14:54): Oh. Marietta [Atalia] (00:14:54): I would take that one or the temporal mine as my second. Alex [ChaCha] (00:14:58): Okay. Anyone else have extreme preferences? I know I want to take the portable lab. Daniel [GM] (00:15:05): The drugs. Alex [ChaCha] (00:15:07): Yeah. All the drugs belong to ChaCha. This is actually Breaking Bad ChaCha edition, so... Daniel [GM] (00:15:13): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Stace [Nix] (00:15:15): How long is this taking, just curious? Daniel [GM] (00:15:17): To bust these open, I would say this probably took about 10 minutes to bust these things open. Stace [Nix] (00:15:22): Sweet. Nix is just leaning against the wall. She's like, "I'll help you in a second, ChaCha. Got to catch my breath." Daniel [GM] (00:15:27): Ah. Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:30): I'll take whatever, but I can carry two. Daniel [GM] (00:15:33): Stannis says, "That's all cool and everything, but like I said, there is... Nix has got us in a good wide circle beyond the city, but there's these huriks moving around, and it's still complaining about that containment breach in the aft." Marietta [Atalia] (00:15:47): We didn't really fix that, did we? Stace [Nix] (00:15:49): Guys, I know a shortcut. Sampson [Dili] (00:15:51): No, you don't, Nix. Daniel [GM] (00:15:52): So, speaking of which, I did say that from Nix's perspective, it would take longer to walk back through the corridors. I will say that when you guys actually walk back through the corridors, it was about 15 minutes faster to just take the corridors. Stace [Nix] (00:16:04): Excellent. Great. Love it. Alex [ChaCha] (00:16:07): Oh, that was a good role. Sampson [Dili] (00:16:08): I use my excellent memory to tell her the minutes and seconds. [crosstalk 00:16:14]. Which cyphers are up for grabs still, because I have none. Alex [ChaCha] (00:16:17): The mist, No-paint, tether. Is tether still- Stace [Nix] (00:16:21): No, I took the tether and the temporal mine, although I would negotiate. Alex [ChaCha] (00:16:26): So we have No-paint, the mist, and the first one Daniel said. Stace [Nix] (00:16:35): Flesh-eater? Alex [ChaCha] (00:16:36): Flesh-eater. Stace [Nix] (00:16:37): Was that a thing? Alex [ChaCha] (00:16:38): So, that's three. Oh, and then Nix took the temporal mine and the tether, and I took the lab. That's those three left. Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:49): I can hold one more. Stace [Nix] (00:16:49): Got it. Sampson [Dili] (00:16:50): Atalia, which ones are you thinking? Marietta [Atalia] (00:16:53): I have lie-eater right now, if you would like lie-eater, or I would take... I'm not really interested in flesh-eater, I prefer to cause my own damage. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:06): I'm just so amused at lie-eater. It's like the perfect cypher for Atalia's storyline for figuring stuff out, and she's just always disparaging of it, and never uses it, and complains about it every time she talks about herself. Stace [Nix] (00:17:20): Don't give it away, because I really have my fingers crossed for like a squid-headed Atalia busting in- Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:26): It's just like not subtle at all. Alex [ChaCha] (00:17:30): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:30): I think that's what really pisses Atalia off about it. Sampson [Dili] (00:17:33): You have stealth. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:33): This is the antithesis- Sampson [Dili] (00:17:35): Just throw up a hood, you'll be fine. Stace [Nix] (00:17:38): Yeah, throw up a hood, we know about that now. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:40): You wouldn't see [inaudible 00:17:41] Medusa if you fucking throw up a hood. Stace [Nix] (00:17:44): We understand the importance of hood-wearing. Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:44): Great, guys. Thanks. Daniel [GM] (00:17:49): I mean, the whole point of a lie-eater is so that you could demonstrate to somebody like, "Yeah, I know you're lying. Do you see how it's moving while you're talking to me right now?" Marietta [Atalia] (00:17:57): Wouldn't it have been great if I'd used it on someone like, I don't know, Tamara? Daniel [GM] (00:18:02): Mm. Sampson [Dili] (00:18:02): Did she ever lie to us? Stace [Nix] (00:18:03): You really can't regret the past, I found. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:07): No, I really don't, actually. I'm like, "No, Atalia definitely wouldn't have, though, so that's just what happened." Tamara just thought she was better than she was. Alex [ChaCha] (00:18:17): Okay, so I'll take the flesh-eater I guess, then, and then [inaudible 00:18:21] is filled up, unless Dili wants the flesh-eater. Sampson [Dili] (00:18:23): I want the flesh-eater because I need something that deals damage. Alex [ChaCha] (00:18:26): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:27): Yeah. Alex [ChaCha] (00:18:28): Atalia, watch out. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:31): Does that give you just one cypher? Sampson [Dili] (00:18:33): Yes. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:34): Do you want no-paint? Or do you want the mist? Alex [ChaCha] (00:18:37): Or do want us to hold it, because we can hold more, and then we can do this later. Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:42): Why don't you take no-paint? Sampson [Dili] (00:18:44): I'll take no-paint. Daniel [GM] (00:18:45): You guys are also in a ship that is effectively like a flying Numenera ruins. Sampson [Dili] (00:18:51): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:18:52): Yeah, we should try salvaging, because we're all very proficient. Stace [Nix] (00:18:56): Yeah, maybe we should salvage stuff. Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:00): Okay, I'll take mist animator for right now, and that just creates a mist cloud? Daniel [GM] (00:19:04): Well, it allows you to control any sort of gaseous substance. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:08): So if we walk into a poison cloud, that would be useful. Daniel [GM] (00:19:13): Right, exactly. Or, if one of you has a really bad fart and you just want to send it to your opponent's face. That kind of thing. Stace [Nix] (00:19:17): Would it have worked on the caustic storm? Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:19): No, those are missiles. Daniel [GM] (00:19:21): Yeah, they were kind of roiling fluid. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:26): It was also 10 episodes ago, so maybe just let it go, huh? Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:27): Oh, could I just create a vacuum? Just remove the air around people and suffocate them? Daniel [GM] (00:19:35): You could. Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:37): Fuck yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:39): We're thinking of new ways to kill people. Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:42): Awesome. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:43): It's like season three of Legend of Kora. Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:45): Yeah, that's actually what I was thinking. Stace [Nix] (00:19:52): Daniel instantly regrets this. Sampson [Dili] (00:19:55): No, he doesn't. Alex [ChaCha] (00:19:55): I don't, yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (00:19:58): This seems exactly Daniel- flavored, actually. Stace [Nix] (00:20:02): Daniel is an enabler. Marietta [Atalia] (00:20:04): It's great. He's like, "Oh, man, they're walking to their doom. Let me just help them right along." Stace [Nix] (00:20:11): Let me give them a couple of cyphers to help them run. Daniel [GM] (00:20:14): So Stannis says, "So, what do we want to do? I mean, the ship is flying in circles. It's complaining about, it doesn't seem like it's going to blow up, but those huriks are moving around, and we need the teleportation online. I got to be honest, guys, I'm a little nervous about flying back to Shallamas with a bunch of huriks, and me being alone in here." Alex [ChaCha] (00:20:37): We could dump the huriks on Shallamas, and it'd be like biological warfare. Sampson [Dili] (00:20:39): Why would we do that? Daniel [GM] (00:20:40): I don't want to harm Shallamas. I just want to get back there so I can turn into crystals. I don't particularly want to go to Charmonde if I don't have to, for reasons. And she kind of darts a glance at Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (00:20:54): Is there a way to change the environment in the rooms that the huriks are in? Outside of, are we on the bridge, question mark? Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:00): Are we on the bridge? Daniel [GM] (00:21:05): Maybe, I don't know. I haven't gotten that far. I'm trying to figure it out. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:09): Okay. Are we on the bridge right now? Daniel [GM] (00:21:13): You are currently in the room with the [Atama 00:21:16] twins, where you guys killed off the [Huriks 00:21:17], but you guys could go back to the bridge from here. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:20): Okay. And where is the teleportation device in relation to where we are right now? Daniel [GM] (00:21:24): It's a different series of corridors, so it's probably two or three chambers away down a different corridor. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:31): Okay. And how far is it back to the bridge from here or are we close to it? Daniel [GM] (00:21:35): It's up the stairs and down a very short corridor. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:40): Okay. I'm going to go run back and check that then. Daniel [GM] (00:21:44): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:44): That would be an easy way to kill them all at once conveniently. Daniel [GM] (00:21:49): Okay. So you come back into the bridge. I assume you're going to be looking for something related to environmental controls or something along those lines. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:59): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:21:59): Okay. So you go over there and you're trying to decipher this. So the other thing to keep in mind here is that you're basically trying to work out something that is an interface that was created in a language that you do not know. Marietta [Atalia] (00:21:59): Great. Daniel [GM] (00:22:15): It was probably used by creatures that were very different than you. So a lot of what you guys have figured out so far is just because you're explorers, because you have knowledge of the Numenera, you're literally like, " This button looks pretty. I bet this combo looks okay." Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:34): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:22:36): But you go over there and give me an understanding Numenera roll. This is kind of complicated, what you're aiming to do, so give me an understanding Numenera roll of 15. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:47): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:22:49): And you're trained, so that's a 12. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:52): Have a book about Numenera. Daniel [GM] (00:22:54): You could spend 30 minutes and use your book about Numenera. Marietta [Atalia] (00:22:57): No, I'll spend two levels of effort. Oh wait, I'll spend one level of effort. Daniel [GM] (00:23:05): That brings it down to a nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:07): Cool. Here we go. That's an 11. Daniel [GM] (00:23:13): Okay. You think there is a way to essentially shift parts of the atmosphere to potentially make it toxic to the Huriks. It's a little tricky because you don't know a lot about the biology of the Huriks per se. Marietta [Atalia] (00:23:29): Could I just flood it with one ... How do the systems work? Could I just use one chemical that composes air? I could just flood it with argon or something. Daniel [GM] (00:23:39): Yeah, you think that would work, that you could do that. One of the other things you notice is that over that blinking alarm around the [AF 00:23:50] containment, while it was blinking before, you do see that there's another series of characters that are blinking there that you don't really understand but the characters there, for whatever word is complaining about, the glyph structure of those characters looks very similar to the characters ... It's not the same words or even close to the same words, but the characters look like they come from the same language as the note that was in Mewin's journal that referenced the Guardians of Night's Hope. Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:30): Okay. I'll look for the ... Oh my gosh. I can't think of the word. It's the little box you use to communicate. Daniel [GM] (00:24:30): The intercom? Marietta [Atalia] (00:24:38): Yes, thank you. I'll use the Intercom and say, "Hey guys, there's some more flashing here, and it looks like the same stuff from the note that we took to Momma Jerrun from Mewin, if any of y'all can decipher that better than I." Alex [ChaCha] (00:24:57): ChaCha does that little [hamtaro 00:25:01] speed waddle to the bridge. Daniel [GM] (00:25:05): Okay. So ChaCha, you reach the bridge. I assume Atalia points it out to you. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:10): Yes. I will point. Daniel [GM] (00:25:13): ChaCha, this part of the language has always been a little fuzzy to you. It's not clear to you whether or not it says ... It is definitely alert of some sort, but then the word after, you're not sure if it says cargo or prisoner. Alex [ChaCha] (00:25:32): So we're either transporting something that's goods or we're transporting people. Marietta [Atalia] (00:25:32): Could be both. Daniel [GM] (00:25:42): Then there's another message that blinks underneath that either cargo or prison, and you look at it closely and it's very strange, but it says something like siphon failure. Alex [ChaCha] (00:25:56): Were we siphoning something? Because it failed. You weren't stealing gas, were you? Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:03): Was there something being stolen from the heart when we were there? Daniel [GM] (00:26:03): Not that you're aware of. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:09): Okay. I didn't find anything strange in that regard when I was checking it out? Daniel [GM] (00:26:14): Mm-mm (negative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:15): When we thought we were going to die, maybe. It's a good time. Can I see if I can help her figure it out, or if there's some way to turn it back on, or that sort of thing, fix whatever it was siphoning? Daniel [GM] (00:26:29): So give me an understanding Numenera roll of nine. With ChaCha's revelation, it'll be a six. And you're trained, so it's a three. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:38): That's a six. Daniel [GM] (00:26:41): The ship was siphoning something that was in that containment and it's complaining because it can't siphon it anymore. Marietta [Atalia] (00:26:51): So you think that was a fuel thing? Alex [ChaCha] (00:26:54): I think ChaCha's going to hamtaro waddle run towards the containment. Daniel [GM] (00:26:59): Okay. So you're just heading after the ship on your own? Alex [ChaCha] (00:27:01): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:02): I did change the atmosphere. You might not be able to breathe very well. I was trying to kill the Huriks, remember. Daniel [GM] (00:27:09): Did you just change the atmosphere without warning anybody to get to the bridge? Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:09): I just [inaudible 00:27:14]. Dili (00:27:19): Hey Nix, is it getting hard to breathe in here? Stace [Nix] (00:27:21): Yeah. Dili (00:27:22): That's weird. Stace [Nix] (00:27:23): I'm never short of breath, Dili. Is that what this is like? Dili (00:27:23): Yeah. I'm just going to take a quick nap, real quick. I'm just going to- Stace [Nix] (00:27:33): No, come on. Let's go. Dili (00:27:33): No, where we're going? No, let's stay right here. Daniel [GM] (00:27:38): [Stannis 00:27:38] grabs Dili's arm and puts it over her shoulder, and she's breathing very shallowly and leading Dili to the bridge. Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:47): Oh yeah, sorry guys. Changed the environment. Might have a hard time breathing, but it will kill the Huriks, hopefully. Dili (00:27:47): Is that God? Marietta [Atalia] (00:27:47): Might be. Dili (00:27:57): I hear the voice of God. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:01): I'm so sorry. Just wanted to see how long you guys could hold your breath. I'm so impressed. Alex [ChaCha] (00:28:09): We need to get to the ass of the ship because there's something really wrong and we need to fix it. You need to reverse it. Dili (00:28:19): Are we back on the bridge? Daniel [GM] (00:28:20): Yeah, the rest of you are back on the bridge now. You can catch your breath. Stace [Nix] (00:28:22): Well, Atalia's not trying to murder us. Dili (00:28:28): Can you put me down, please. Thank you. Stace [Nix] (00:28:28): God, I hated that, Dili. How do you do it? Dili (00:28:32): Just natural talents. Since the day I was born. Daniel [GM] (00:28:38): Meanwhile, he's just rubbing this crystal up against his neck and his armpits. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:45): How long do you think it takes Huriks to strangle to death? Dili (00:28:48): I don't know. Stace [Nix] (00:28:48): They would probably fall asleep first. Dili (00:28:50): I didn't know they existed until a day ago. Marietta [Atalia] (00:28:53): Okay. Well I guess I can reverse it or could I reverse it just on the route to the containment room? Or are there breathing helmets on the bridge in case there's an emergency situation? Alex [ChaCha] (00:29:07): Oh yeah, Nix, Dili, we might have a prisoner or we might have cargo. I'm not sure which it is. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:13): Whatever it was, the ship was siphoning something from it for you, so now it's not doing that anymore. So now it's pissed. And it's also pissed about the hull. I feel like we need to fix this teleportation device. Daniel [GM] (00:29:26): So to be clear, it's pissed about the hull, because the hull is where the cargo/ prisoner was being held for siphoning. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:34): Oh. So we just need to go back to the cargo and do what we were supposed to do there. Cool. Daniel [GM] (00:29:41): If it's there. You didn't see anything though. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:43): Oh great. Dili (00:29:44): So wandering bands of bugs and also a sponsor, and we need to find an item to get a stone. That's cool. Yeah, all right. Marietta [Atalia] (00:29:52): We just need to fix the teleportation thing. We could just get off the ship and not deal with any of it. Dili (00:29:57): We need the battery, and ChaCha wasn't able to find a battery in the robots. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:02): Look, Stannis, I won't let my mom kill you. Daniel [GM] (00:30:05): I won't let your mom kill me. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:06): Plus, a water monster told me that she's waiting for me in Shallamas, so that's not Charmonde. Daniel [GM] (00:30:12): I didn't say when. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:15): Oh, well I don't know. It's just what the water guy told me. Daniel [GM] (00:30:19): You mean the crab monster that tried to kill you? Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:22): Yeah, water monster that tried to kill me. Very truthful, I'm sure. Stace [Nix] (00:30:27): I was just wondering if the air is breathable now, Atalia. Daniel [GM] (00:30:30): It's not. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:31): I wanted to ask if I could make it so just the path to the cargo hold could have correct air, but the ones outside could still be murdering the Huriks. Daniel [GM] (00:30:41): I would say you figure out how to isolate a single chamber. You haven't quite figured out how. That's a very complicated series of maneuvers that would probably require multiple checks. You think you would probably have to do it while a team was on their way back there, trying to do it for them at each stage. Marietta [Atalia] (00:30:59): Okay. So I'll propose that option. And then the other question would be does there happen to be the little dropdown air things like in the airplane for when the oxygen just doesn't work very well and need breathe. Stace [Nix] (00:31:15): When they turn off the air in airplanes. Daniel [GM] (00:31:24): No. Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:25): No, Marietta. No. Sorry. Dili (00:31:29): Captain has turned off the air again. Daniel [GM] (00:31:32): So give me a searching roll of nine. Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:37): Good news, I'm trained in searching. Stace [Nix] (00:31:40): Yay. I guess ChaCha would help because she's trying to complete that part of the mission. Marietta [Atalia] (00:31:46): Okay, well I deserve that. That was a one. Daniel [GM] (00:31:51): Oh my. Stace [Nix] (00:31:51): Are you trying to kill us? Re-roll that shit. Daniel [GM] (00:31:53): Atalia, you find one of these devices on the bridge. It looks like there were compartments for more of them, but they seem to be missing, but there's one of these breathing devices. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:05): Okay look, I can stay here and wear this and change it so as you go through the rooms, it'll have air for you, but that way the Huriks will still be dying. Dili (00:32:15): Why do you get the helmet? Alex [ChaCha] (00:32:16): Wait, what? Yeah. Wait, why do you get the breathing helmet and then we have to run holding our breath? Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:23): You don't have to hold your breath. I'll turn the air ... I will turn the air off in here and turn it on room for room as you go. Alex [ChaCha] (00:32:31): Why are you turning off the air there? Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:34): Because I can only turn on one room at a time. Dili (00:32:37): Daniel, is that what you said? Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:38): At least that's what I thought, was the understanding. Daniel [GM] (00:32:41): Yes, that's the only way she can isolate this argon thing she's doing. Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:44): Yeah, otherwise I have to turn all of it back regular, which means all of the Huriks will suddenly be like, "Oh yay, breathing." Stace [Nix] (00:32:51): I mean are they unconscious yet? Marietta [Atalia] (00:32:55): I don't know how long it takes to strangle them. I asked you guys that and none of you were like, "Oh yes, two minutes, def. That's it." Alex [ChaCha] (00:33:01): I've never strangled one. Stace [Nix] (00:33:03): Can the ship tell? Daniel [GM] (00:33:05): Stannis goes over to one of the controls and taps a couple buttons on it, and brings up a display, and just like, "Okay. So yeah, they are definitely still moving around the ship. They are moving slower, if that helps, but it doesn't look like they've stopped moving yet." Dili (00:33:23): Stannis, are you only able to see the Huriks? Daniel [GM] (00:33:26): I was able to isolate Huriks from you guys. I don't know, I think I'd have to know what I was looking for to isolate something else. Marietta [Atalia] (00:33:37): So you couldn't just search for lifeforms. Daniel [GM] (00:33:40): Oh yeah. I mean I could do that. Dili (00:33:42): Could you do that? Because apparently there's a third party. Alex [ChaCha] (00:33:45): You don't know if it's a party. It might be like a rock or something. Daniel [GM] (00:33:49): "Okay. Give me a second." And she taps a few controls and then things shift. And then once again, because she has an isolated view before, so before you saw these 35 lights roughly throughout the ship, now you see 35 lights throughout the ship, six lights on the bridge, and one light in the room with the teleportation device. Dili (00:34:14): Of course, it's there. That's where it is. Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:16): Wait, there's six on the bridge? Daniel [GM] (00:34:19): You guys, plus Jeskii. Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:21): Oh, Jeskii. Okay. Right, Jeskii. Alex [ChaCha] (00:34:23): She's like, "Oh no, there's an intruder in the room." Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:25): I was like who's the sixth? "Your dog." Daniel [GM] (00:34:28): The call's coming from inside the room. Alex [ChaCha] (00:34:30): It wants bacon strips. Daniel [GM] (00:34:34): It wants the human food. Stace [Nix] (00:34:36): We're our own worst enemy. Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:37): Well, maybe that guy doesn't like to breathe just argon either. Daniel [GM] (00:34:43): "That's odd," Stannis says. "I can't tell what they're doing, but they're interacting with one of the consoles in that room. I'm not sure what they're doing." Alex [ChaCha] (00:34:53): Maybe they're fixing it. Dili (00:34:54): Probably go check that. Stace [Nix] (00:34:55): Atalia, can I borrow that breather? Marietta [Atalia] (00:34:59): Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:34:59): I'm going to go take a look. Marietta [Atalia] (00:35:01): Okay. I don't know how this works though. Do you know how this works? Here, I'll hand it to her. Daniel [GM] (00:35:07): No, Atalia, you're pretty sure you know how it works. You put it on, there's actually a button to trigger it to go on, and then it should function. It just should start shifting air. Marietta [Atalia] (00:35:20): And just call me if you need something. Alex [ChaCha] (00:35:23): But we haven't figured out the other way communication. Marietta [Atalia] (00:35:27): We haven't? Alex [ChaCha] (00:35:28): No. Marietta [Atalia] (00:35:28): That's fine. I'm sure you can just figure it out on the fly. It'll be no big deal, I'm sure. Be really easy. Alex [ChaCha] (00:35:35): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:35:36): So Nix, this mask seems to work. It smells kind of funny, but it seems to be working as far as you can tell. You can breathe in. Marietta [Atalia] (00:35:44): Please don't die. Stace [Nix] (00:35:45): No promises, Atalia. I always have to tell you that. Alex [ChaCha] (00:35:48): Nix, knock on the door if it doesn't work, please. And then we'll open it and get you. Stace [Nix] (00:35:55): All right guys. We're talking a lot. Goodbye. Dili (00:35:58): Good luck. Wait, do you know the way? Stace [Nix] (00:36:00): Dili, yes. There's more than one way. There's more than one journey, Dili. Dili (00:36:06): Do you know the fastest way? Stace [Nix] (00:36:07): Yes. Daniel [GM] (00:36:11): So Nix, you're heading out down the corridor and towards the teleportation room? Stace [Nix] (00:36:15): Yes. Daniel [GM] (00:36:16): Okay. So there are a couple chambers in between where you are and there. So you start moving. It definitely feels better than it did when you were breathing this argon that essentially Atalia was pumping through the whole system. So you reach the first chamber in between there and you see a small table that's got a lot of small, by small, I mean the size of a D6, synth cubes just sitting on it in a particular placement. They're not locked in or anything like that. They seem almost like they're on display. Stace [Nix] (00:36:54): Nix is going to forego any individual exploration of Numenera. Daniel [GM] (00:36:59): Okay. So there's really only one door out of here. So you go to the next one and you see a weird room that does not make sense to you. It's almost religious in nature. It's an eggshell colored room with crystal columns that seem to be embedded with what appear to be skinless, dead, humanoid creatures, roughly about 10 feet tall. And it's organized almost like an alter. There's very strange glyphs on the ground. Everything about this screams a religious area to you. Stace [Nix] (00:37:34): Nix briefly considers that she may have made a mistake, but how many doors? Daniel [GM] (00:37:39): You know that there is one more door to get where you need to go. Stace [Nix] (00:37:44): Yeah, Nix is going to just hedge around the creepy bodies and go to that door. Daniel [GM] (00:37:50): Okay, sounds good. Nix, please make a might defense roll of 21 for me. Stace [Nix] (00:38:01): Might defense, you say. Oh God. Well, I'll spend one level of effort, I suppose, since it only costs one point to make it possible. Daniel [GM] (00:38:12): That's an 18. Stace [Nix] (00:38:14): This is going to be fine. Hope that I don't need to roll a D6. What am I doing? 16. Damn. Daniel [GM] (00:38:22): You have the beginnings of a headache. Please move one step down the damaged track. Stace [Nix] (00:38:26): Sure, anything for you, Daniel. Marietta [Atalia] (00:38:28): I'm so sorry. Daniel [GM] (00:38:31): So you see this door and in there you see a very complex piece of Numenera in there. There is clearly some wires torn loose and there is a figure. They have three legs. They walk like tripod. Tripedal, if you will. Dark purple skin. They are utterly naked, vaguely humanoid, except for the leg situation, and their face is like an elongated snout. If you remember from Beetlejuice, what Mister Maitland's scary face was, where he stretched out of his face and had the elongated mouth with the teeth, that's what this figure looks like except with a deep purple skin. And you don't understand what language it's speaking, but you recognize cursing whenever you hear it, that seems to be relatively universal, as it seems to be trying to get this system to work and unable to do so. And at this point, I would like you to make a stealth check. Your target is a 15. Stace [Nix] (00:39:44): I'm trying to decide if Nix would even try to be sneaky. I suppose, for the first peak. What was my target? Daniel [GM] (00:39:52): It's a 15. And remember that since you are impaired, effort will cost you an additional point. Stace [Nix] (00:39:57): Seems like an unnecessary rule. Ah, gosh, making things hard for ... Well, made them hard for myself, I'll be honest. One level of effort, I suppose, plus one additional point. Yeah, spend an XP to re-roll. Daniel [GM] (00:40:15): Okay. How does that work in game? How does this re-roll work? Stace [Nix] (00:40:18): Oh, I'm going to say that Nix took two steps in too far and skidded to a halt, but the creature was bent down looking at some part of the device, so it was imposed between them, so she was able to back back out. Daniel [GM] (00:40:36): Okay. Stace [Nix] (00:40:36): Maybe. 15. Is that good enough? Daniel [GM] (00:40:38): Yeah, that's enough. So this creature has not spotted you yet. Stace [Nix] (00:40:41): Oh, that's all it means. You said it's using language, right? Daniel [GM] (00:40:46): Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:40:47): But it's clearly breathing the argon as well, somehow. Alex [ChaCha] (00:40:51): But how long does it take for you to get argon poisoning? Stace [Nix] (00:40:56): Well, I think the bigger problem would be suffocation, or the more immediate problem. I guess Dili and Nix will find out how long it takes to get argon poisoning. Marietta [Atalia] (00:40:56): Yeah. Stace [Nix] (00:41:06): Yeah, Nix is just going to be like, "Yo, what's up?" Daniel [GM] (00:41:09): The figure freezes for a moment and then slowly rises to full height. It's about 10 feet tall. Stace [Nix] (00:41:18): Oh wow. Daniel [GM] (00:41:21): And it turns and looks at you. You can barely see it's eyes, they're receded so far back into the skull. They're just little reflections of light in black pools. And it turns, and it looks at you, and you can't really tell what its expression is at first. It looks like it might be looking you up and down, trying to identify you. And then it narrows its eyes, if that's what you could call it. And then it looks like it's about ready to run at you. Stace [Nix] (00:41:56): Oh no. Daniel [GM] (00:41:58): But that's when I need you to make another might defense roll of 21. Stace [Nix] (00:42:02): Oh shit. Daniel [GM] (00:42:00): ... make another might defense roll of 21. Stace [Nix] (00:42:02): Oh shit. Are you guys paying attention? Alex [ChaCha] (00:42:08): Sure, it's fine. I mean, your life sign's still on there. Stace [Nix] (00:42:14): That's good. Alex [ChaCha] (00:42:15): I don't think it gave us full stats. Stace [Nix] (00:42:18): I'm going to save my confident- Alex [ChaCha] (00:42:19): You haven't turned yellow, your icon. It's still green. Stace [Nix] (00:42:26): I should have planted the damn temporal mine. I'm an idiot. Anyway. It's a 21, two levels of effort. No, because that's more expensive than I think it is. Daniel [GM] (00:42:36): Yeah, it is. Because it's one point extra for each level of effort you're going to spend. Stace [Nix] (00:42:40): One level of effort to make it passable. Hmm, 12. Daniel [GM] (00:42:42): Okay. Nix, please move another step down with damage track. Stace [Nix] (00:42:46): Okay. What does debilitated mean? Daniel [GM] (00:42:49): You can only move an immediate distance. Stace [Nix] (00:42:52): Oh shit. Daniel [GM] (00:42:53): Your speed pool isn't down to zero, so you still can move. Stace [Nix] (00:42:56): That's good. Daniel [GM] (00:42:57): You're not unconscious yet, but you are one step down the damage track away from death. Stace [Nix] (00:43:05): I didn't think this was going to happen tonight. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:09): Is there any way that I can tell that anything has gone awry? Daniel [GM] (00:43:15): Well, let's cut back to the bridge actually. Speaker 1 (00:43:17): Nix sends you a letter. Daniel [GM] (00:43:19): Nix, your vision is getting hazy. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:22): Do you think she's okay? Daniel [GM] (00:43:23): The camera like switches just to Nix's POV, with sort of this hazy image as this creature begins walking towards her. And we cut back to the bridge, and you guys can clearly see that Nix has reached the room where this other life sign is. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:40): Do you think she's okay? Speaker 1 (00:43:41): I think so. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:43): She hasn't moved in a second now that she's in the room. Oh, the thing's coming towards her. Daniel [GM] (00:43:48): It is definitely moving towards her, and she does not appear to be running away. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:52): Why isn't she running away? Speaker 1 (00:43:54): Maybe she's getting ready to like kick it? Alex [ChaCha] (00:43:55): It could be a friend. Marietta [Atalia] (00:43:57): I don't know if it's her friend. I'll like [inaudible 00:44:01] aircon. Nix, are you okay? Daniel [GM] (00:44:04): You guys have established there is not a way for somebody to respond yet. Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:07): Right, she can't respond. Shit. Speaker 1 (00:44:10): Quick question. Did- Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:12): Why isn't she moving? Speaker 1 (00:44:14): Can we see them, like what they look like? Or just that there are two dots in the room? Daniel [GM] (00:44:19): They're just like dots. Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:21): That dot is like on top of her, and she's not moving. Maybe they're just hugging. I don't know. Should I turn the air back on? How far away is this? Daniel [GM] (00:44:31): Now there appears to be only one dot there. Speaker 1 (00:44:33): Uh-oh. Yeah maybe turn ... Well. Turn the air back on. We have to go back up. We have to go back down there. Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:40): Okay. I'll turn the air on and I'll just start running for Nix at this point. Daniel [GM] (00:44:45): So it's not going to be instantaneous. So you re going to have to hold your breath for a bit as you're running through the [Argon 00:00:44:50]. Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:45): It's fine. Daniel [GM] (00:44:45): Okay. Marietta [Atalia] (00:44:45): I'm sure. Daniel [GM] (00:44:53): Okay. So Atalia, you are running towards Nix. Since you're running through the Argon and just trying to hold your breath at the same time, give me a might base roll of 12 for now. It will get harder as you go. Marietta [Atalia] (00:45:04): Okay. I'll save the effort then. That's a 16. Daniel [GM] (00:45:10): Okay. So you make your way to that first room with the sort of synth cubes in it no problem. I assume you keep running. Marietta [Atalia] (00:45:19): Yes. Daniel [GM] (00:45:20): Okay. Give me a 15 light defense roll. Marietta [Atalia] (00:45:26): 15 exactly. Daniel [GM] (00:45:28): Okay. You reach that weird religious room with the crystal columns with the embedded skinless dead humanoid creatures. Marietta [Atalia] (00:45:34): I think I like gasp, but then catch myself. So beautiful. I don't have time. Can't breath. Are you guys coming, or were you like, "We can't breathe this yet"? Daniel [GM] (00:45:46): I need you to make an 18 light defense role now. Reach the last room. Marietta [Atalia] (00:45:50): Okay. I guess I'll have to spend a level of effort at least. See if I have anything. Not really. Yeah. Okay. I guess that's it. I'll just spend one level of effort. Daniel [GM] (00:46:02): Okay. Brings it down to a 15. What you get? Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:03): I'm going to spend an XP. Alex [ChaCha] (00:46:06): You spend an XP on this, but you won't do it for searching for more breathing. I'm not going to [inaudible 00:46:14]. Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:10): Do you want me to die? Alex [ChaCha] (00:46:16): Oh no, you can. I just thought that was funny. Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:18): I just rolled with two. Daniel [GM] (00:46:21): Oh man, Atalia. So you are going to ... because of the lack of air at the [inaudible 00:46:30], but air is still being a little bit toxic, it's not as bad as it could have been. You're going to take two intellect damage and move one step down the damage track. Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:36): Great. Daniel [GM] (00:46:36): But you make it to the extra room, and you see this 10 foot tall purplish tripedal humanoid. And they are holding Nix. Nix is breathing mask is now currently lying on the ground next to her. And it looks like that wide, long mouth has opened up and is like holding her head in it. Marietta [Atalia] (00:46:59): Oh. How exciting. Alex [ChaCha] (00:47:01): Aw, mask to mouth, he's so nice. Marietta [Atalia] (00:47:03): Yeah. Is it mouth to mouth, or is he trying to eat her face in an unfortunate sort of way? Daniel [GM] (00:47:10): Well, I don't know if you would know that. This is what you're seeing in the moment. If you would like to try to understand better what's happening, you can try to make some sort of roll for that. I'm just saying Atalia is going to come in and she's going to see this huge creature with a huge mouth, and Nix's head in said mouth. Marietta [Atalia] (00:47:29): Ah, okay. I guess I would roll to see, to make sure that this dude isn't try to save her or something. Daniel [GM] (00:47:36): Okay. So it's going to be kind of difficult. This is more biological than Numenera. Marietta [Atalia] (00:47:44): Definitely not trained in any of that. Daniel [GM] (00:47:46): Yeah. And they're pretty alien from you. So it's probably going to be an 18. Keep in mind that effort will cost you an extra point for each level right now. Alex [ChaCha] (00:47:55): I'm still deciding if ChaCha would have run after. Marietta [Atalia] (00:47:58): Okay. So what would it be for two levels of effort then, if I'm [crosstalk 00:48:04]. Daniel [GM] (00:48:03): Mean two levels of intellect? Marietta [Atalia] (00:48:05): Yeah. Daniel [GM] (00:48:06): So that's five points of intellect. Marietta [Atalia] (00:48:06): Okay. I'll do that. It's a 14. Daniel [GM] (00:48:11): Okay. This figure doesn't seem to be eating Nix. And in fact, as you kind of run in, some kind of like little flicker, like the reflection of light deep within the dark sockets of its eye holes. And it kind of opens its mouth and sets Nix gently down where she curls up or, should I say, coils up on the floor, unconscious. And the figure looks at you somewhat warily. Marietta [Atalia] (00:48:43): I'm going to scan it. Daniel [GM] (00:48:47): Okay. Are you trying to be stealthy about your scan, or not? Marietta [Atalia] (00:48:54): I think I'll kind of hold my hand up and just like really slowly reach out, and then like scan it. Like I was going to attack and then I stopped and thought, and then I'm- Daniel [GM] (00:49:06): Remember you're extruding a mist when you do this. So it's- Marietta [Atalia] (00:49:09): Okay. Well that is what my behavior would be. And then I would let it go. But yeah, I guess however fast the spooky smoke is. Daniel [GM] (00:49:18): Okay. Here's what this tells you. This creature is not human. They are level six. They have some sort of natural armor. They are highly intelligent. And while they are very alien, they appear to be somewhat privacy conscious in the sense that it seems agitated by the fact that you're scanning it. Marietta [Atalia] (00:49:44): Okay. So I can tell that it's agitated from my scan? Daniel [GM] (00:49:47): Yeah. I think you're going to need to roll initiative. Alex [ChaCha] (00:49:51): Oh, Atalia. I think you're going to have to talk about scanning consent. Marietta [Atalia] (00:49:58): I don't want to fight it. I just wanted to see what it was. It's a 15. Daniel [GM] (00:50:05): Okay. So it will go first. Marietta [Atalia] (00:50:07): Great. Daniel [GM] (00:50:07): It is going to raise a hand at you, and there is going to be a blast of light that comes out of its hand. And, in fact that the light has a familiar sheen to it. It looks a lot like the light that glows and ricochets around inside the heart of the ship. Marietta [Atalia] (00:50:25): Da-ding. I wish I had Dili's light bulb. Daniel [GM] (00:50:30): Almost as if this thing was the real power source. So please make an 18 speed defense roll. Alex [ChaCha] (00:50:36): [inaudible 00:50:38], have we decided if our characters followed Atalia or not? Or are we just hanging in the ship's bridge waiting for air to be good? Daniel [GM] (00:50:46): Until he's just crying in the corner. Speaker 1 (00:50:49): [inaudible 00:50:49] a little beat up. So once you got to the Argon, he won't have been able to go any farther. Marietta [Atalia] (00:50:53): Okay. So what am I doing right now? Daniel [GM] (00:50:54): Speed defense of 18. Marietta [Atalia] (00:50:56): A speed defense? All right, [inaudible 00:50:59]. That's on the ground somewhere. That's a four. Daniel [GM] (00:51:05): Okay. This beam is going to hit you. You are going to take six might damage. Marietta [Atalia] (00:51:10): Oh, well that's negative force or? Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:13): Whoa. Daniel [GM] (00:51:13): Okay, so that cuts into your speed then. Marietta [Atalia] (00:51:15): Oh, yay. I didn't already have a somewhat limited speed pool. Daniel [GM] (00:51:19): And you were already down the damage track, so now you go down another step down the damaged tracks. So now you are debilitated. Marietta [Atalia] (00:51:25): Okay. Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:26): How would that show up on the monitor of, "Oh no, there goes another debt. Maybe we should investigate-"? Daniel [GM] (00:51:33): There was a burst of energy ... So now there are two dots for Nix and this creature again, because now they're not like physically connected, so to speak. And there is a surge of energy that's picked up on the beam, and Atalia's flickers for a moment. Alex [ChaCha] (00:51:54): Okay. That would get ChaCha to run through the Argon, be like, "What the fuck?" Daniel [GM] (00:52:03): The problem is that it's going to be, it's six seconds per round. Alex [ChaCha] (00:52:05): Oh yeah. No, that's totally reasonable. Atalia's going to die. She's going to die before ChaCha gets there. Daniel [GM] (00:52:10): Mm-hmm (affirmative). And then the creature, it's going to hold up its other hand at you, Italia. And what is almost, oddly enough, some sort of universal concept, you think, maybe throughout all the worlds, where it holds up its hand with two fingers on the hand, and it just waves it back and forth sort of in a negative like- Alex [ChaCha] (00:52:35): No, no, no. Daniel [GM] (00:52:37): ... "Don't." Marietta [Atalia] (00:52:39): I don't think Atalia is going to do shot, because she can't at this- Daniel [GM] (00:52:43): Yeah. Atalia, you've definitely got ... there's blood trickling from your mouth and out your nose right now. Marietta [Atalia] (00:52:48): She has like no damaged ciphers either, not that that would be a smart move. Daniel [GM] (00:52:53): It is your turn. Marietta [Atalia] (00:52:54): I don't think I have anything. I mean, I could onslaught it, but ... Alex [ChaCha] (00:52:57): I'm like ... Marietta [Atalia] (00:52:57): It's just not going to do anything. I guess I'm just hanging out here. I mean, obviously I'm not going to win against this heart of the ship creature. Stace is nodding her head at me. I'm just going to hold my hands up and be like, "Sorry." And then I'm going to fall over. Daniel [GM] (00:53:26): Okay. So ChaCha, but you're running towards them? Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:30): Yeah, that would have weirded ChaCha out enough. Daniel [GM] (00:53:32): And at this point I'll offer you an XP. Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:35): Sure. Daniel [GM] (00:53:41): Okay. Who would you give the other one too? Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:41): I guess Dili. What other person has to support me in [inaudible 00:53:45]? I'm not sure I would run through Argon for Nix. Speaker 1 (00:53:50): What? Alex [ChaCha] (00:53:51): You get XP because you didn't run through Argon for Nix like me. Speaker 1 (00:53:55): I don't know how I feel about this, but okay. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:00): It made me feel awkward though. I was like, "Oh." Like ChaCha loves Nix, but like that much? Daniel [GM] (00:54:06): So one thing I will do, Marietta, I will also give you an XP for running without consequence to go help Nix, because that is very much her character. And I'll let you award an XP to another player as well. Marietta [Atalia] (00:54:20): Oh, well probably to Nix, sense my one was definitely what got us here. Not that Nix hasn't ever rolled a one before. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:31): Never. Never. Marietta [Atalia] (00:54:34): An opportune time. Daniel [GM] (00:54:35): Okay. So ChaCha, you notice that you have picked up some followers on your way? Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:41): I found some [hirks 00:54:43]? Daniel [GM] (00:54:43): There appear to be about four hirks. They're a short distance behind you, but they have definitely noticed you, and are on their way behind you. They're little clicky things. Mouth clapping, clicking. Alex [ChaCha] (00:54:57): So would ChaCha know if she could outrun them or not? Daniel [GM] (00:55:00): Short distance away. So unless you stop, you can keep pace and keep a short distance away from them. Alex [ChaCha] (00:55:05): Oh, then ChaCha's taking this follow train all the way to that dot. Daniel [GM] (00:55:10): Okay. Okay. So then we cut back briefly to the bridge where Dili is sitting and recovering, and [Stanas 00:55:16] is like toying with one of the controls, and saying like, "They've been gone a while, haven't they?" Speaker 1 (00:55:19): Yeah. I think they have. Daniel [GM] (00:55:23): You hungry at all? I got some stuff in my bag now, if you want. I got some jerky. Speaker 1 (00:55:29): I'm a little stressed to eat at the moment, but thank you. Daniel [GM] (00:55:33): Oh, that's when I eat the most. Alex [ChaCha] (00:55:35): Little stress binge. Speaker 1 (00:55:37): So what am I seeing on the display I've seen? Daniel [GM] (00:55:41): So you are seeing Atalia flicker. There are the three dots in that room now. You can see that ChaCha is on her way, and there are now four other dots following her. Speaker 1 (00:55:51): Oh no. ChaCha is being followed. How's the Argon? Daniel [GM] (00:55:56): The Argon at this point is mostly clear. Speaker 1 (00:56:00): Okay. All right. Oh man. Oh God. Shit. Daniel [GM] (00:56:06): What do you think you want to do, Dili? Stanas is now looking at you with a very interested intensity. Speaker 1 (00:56:12): I go help. I got to go help. Dili runs down to the corridor, and I think Dili will now tear up. Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:20): Ooh. Daniel [GM] (00:56:21): Fucking love it. Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:21): That's a good one. Speaker 1 (00:56:24): Finally. I'll also improve a skill, because I got enough XP to do that. So finally, two levels of effort. Can I improve my illusion [necetaries 00:56:34]? Can that be my improved skill? Daniel [GM] (00:56:36): Sure. Speaker 1 (00:56:37): All right. Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:37): Anybody else hear delusions? I think ... Hmm. Can you hear delusions? Daniel [GM] (00:56:43): Oh yeah. You haven't? Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:45): You have? Speaker 1 (00:56:48): No. Alex [ChaCha] (00:56:49): Should I have? Daniel [GM] (00:56:51): Okay. Speaker 1 (00:56:52): And I'll check what I ... special abilities [inaudible 00:56:54] after the session. Daniel [GM] (00:56:55): Okay. Sounds good. So you are heading in that direction. ChaCha, you reach this room. You see Atalia just like up, I assume, slumped against the wall. Just looking like shit. Alex [ChaCha] (00:57:07): Think she's on her knees, like hands up, like falling over. Daniel [GM] (00:57:11): Yeah. This creature kind of staring at her. Nix is sort of coiled up in a circular pile in the center of the room next to it. Dili, you come running in. No, ChaCha. First you come in. You come in and you see that. The hirks are following. What does ChaCha do? This creature definitely like looks at you immediately. Marietta [Atalia] (00:57:34): I just have a real quick question, because it hasn't come up yet this episode. What about the voice in ChaCha's head. Would they have anything? Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:57:41): It's not talking to her right now. She could try engaging in a conversation. Alex [ChaCha] (00:57:45): It's too late for conversation, only action. Daniel [GM] (00:57:50): Although that's a good point. So I will actually say, ChaCha, you do hear that voice in your head briefly, and it's like a faint whistle. Like, " Ah, young one. I don't know if this is one you can win." Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:05): Okay. So, I need to know the actual layout of the room. So in front of me is the extremely strong creature. To the right or left of it is Nix curled up. Where in position to the door is Atalia? Daniel [GM] (00:58:22): Atalia is probably right next to the door. Because everything she was doing with it is ranged. Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:26): Is she like one side of the door? Daniel [GM] (00:58:29): Yeah. Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:30): Okay. Daniel [GM] (00:58:32): You could say left, because Atalia is all sinistral. Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:38): Can ChaCha kind of yell, "Duck," spin on her keels, and try and wild shot a hirk? Daniel [GM] (00:58:47): Ooh. So you're trying to like grab a hirk and throw it at it? Alex [ChaCha] (00:58:51): No, kind of establish that she's not going to attack the creature, but shoot at a hirk and be like, "This is a threat here." Like kind of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Daniel [GM] (00:59:03): Oh, sure. So that'll be your using your laser gun, I assume? Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:09): Mm-hmm (affirmative). Daniel [GM] (00:59:09): So it's a six to hit a hirk. Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:09): [inaudible 00:59:13]. Daniel [GM] (00:59:10): Okay. Extra damage, or major effect. Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:17): Could I use the major effect that this creature understands that I'm saying, "Oh no, look out"? Daniel [GM] (00:59:23): Sure. Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:24): Okay. Then I'll do that. Daniel [GM] (00:59:25): Okay. So you do that. Go ahead and roll initiative, just so I know where you are on the order. Alex [ChaCha] (00:59:25): Okay. Six. Daniel [GM] (00:59:32): Okay. Go back to the creature. The creature stands there. Notices what you do, ChaCha. It moves one of its hands, and a beam of light shoots out of it. And you see the remaining three hirks just vaporize. And it turns and faces you, ChaCha, with a gaze, like tilts its head a little bit in curiosity about what you'll do next. But now it's Atalia's turn. Marietta [Atalia] (00:59:59): Oh I scanned him and he didn't like it very much. I don't feel very good. I'm worried about Nix. And then she's going to hiccup. She's trying not to cry. Daniel [GM] (01:00:11): Dili, go ahead and roll initiative for me real quick, just so I know. Stace [Nix] (01:00:14): Is Nix unconscious? Daniel [GM] (01:00:15): Nix's unconscious right now. Stace [Nix] (01:00:17): Okay. Daniel [GM] (01:00:18): Otherwise I would have you roll, but ... Stace [Nix] (01:00:20): I just want to make sure. Daniel [GM] (01:00:21): Okay. So Atalia wasn't doing anything with her turn. So ChaCha, what do you want to do with your turn? Alex [ChaCha] (01:00:26): Atalia, we need to talk about consent in scanning. You can't just scan people. And ChaCha kind of gives like a thumbs up to the creature. Like, "Yeah. That's what you wanted. Thank you for the help." Daniel [GM] (01:00:41): It just kind of stares at you. Marietta [Atalia] (01:00:43): Maybe we can just fix this teleportation thing and then he'll be happy, or it'll be happy. They'll be happy. I don't know. Alex [ChaCha] (01:00:51): I'm going to use my ... Hmm. Marietta [Atalia] (01:00:55): Yes, yes, do it. Alex [ChaCha] (01:00:59): Well, we just had an encounter where it's just like, "Consent, please." Marietta [Atalia] (01:01:04): Oh, I thought you were going to smoke the shroom and try to talk to it. Alex [ChaCha] (01:01:07): Oh no, I was going to ask if I could read it to mind. Daniel [GM] (01:01:09): Yeah, she has that ability, to detect surface thought. Alex [ChaCha] (01:01:13): Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cool. I'm into it. And then she's going to kind of look at Atalia, like, "This is how you do this." Then she turns to the creature, is like, "Can I read your mind so we can communicate effectively?" Daniel [GM] (01:01:29): It tilts your head at you, like clearly not understanding the words you're saying. Marietta [Atalia] (01:01:29): See what I mean? Communication barrier. That's why I just kind of went for it. Alex [ChaCha] (01:01:34): Is it still ChaCha's turn. Daniel [GM] (01:01:34): It's still ChaCha's turn. Alex [ChaCha] (01:01:37): Okay. Then she's going to try and go like, she's going to touch her forehead and kind of gesture at his forehead. Like two fingers to her forehead, and then fingers, like points at him. Daniel [GM] (01:01:50): It takes a step back and holds up its hand again with that two finger, like, "No, no, no," thing. And at this point Dili comes running into the room. Marietta [Atalia] (01:01:59): Dili, you're not going to win. Speaker 1 (01:02:04): No. What's happened? She dead? Marietta [Atalia] (01:02:04): No, I don't think so. Speaker 1 (01:02:08): Okay. Are we fighting this? Marietta [Atalia] (01:02:09): I don't think so. Daniel [GM] (01:02:11): The creature has definitely looked at Dili as well, and is pointing its hand at Dili, waiting to see what he'll do. Marietta [Atalia] (01:02:18): Maybe we should just very slowly try to fix the teleportation thing. It seemed like it was trying to make that work. Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:26): That could work. Dili, do you have paper? Speaker 1 (01:02:29): Yeah, I got a notebook here. Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:31): Can you like write out like hi and just show it to him? He doesn't understand my words. Marietta [Atalia] (01:02:42): What if we just hold our hands up and I'll start like walking very slowly on my knees, looking super submissive over to the teleportation device? Alex [ChaCha] (01:02:52): We can fix it. Speaker 1 (01:02:53): ChaCha, I don't think I can write hi. But I think you can, since you know the glyphs, right, that the ship was using? Maybe this creature knows the glyphs. Alex [ChaCha] (01:03:02): Oh yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (01:03:03): Yeah. Do you know how to write- Sampson [Dili] (01:03:00): ... was using. Maybe this creature knows the place. Marietta [Atalia] (01:03:00): Yeah. Do you know how to write hi? Sampson [Dili] (01:03:00): Or at least friend? Daniel [GM] (01:03:06): The creature takes a short step towards Dili. It's not a movement yet. We're still only in initiative order. It's just I'm trying to give you a reflection of what it's thinking physically. Alex [ChaCha] (01:03:17): I don't know because it's Dili's turn, so I'm not sure if ChaCha can write in the notebook. And ChaCha's pretty low in initiative. Daniel [GM] (01:03:23): Yeah. Dili's even lower, so you have a whole round to get back around to you. Alex [ChaCha] (01:03:27): Yeah. I think Dili can try and write, "Hi," in Truth and see if he understands that, and be like, "Writing or pictures" to see what he writes in, if he'll write. Sampson [Dili] (01:03:43): Right, yeah. Dili will pull out a page from his notebook, write, "Hello," on one end, and then just walk up to it a little bit, then just place on the ground between himself and the creature, and then back up. Daniel [GM] (01:03:57): Okay. It keeps tracking you with its fingers while you do that. But it looks down at it, and then looks up at you, tilts its head in confusion. And Dili, it's at that point you hear a voice behind you. And Stan says, "It's not going to understand you." And she walks in and she makes some sort of sound with her mouth that you don't completely understand. It's this barking sound. And this creature takes a step back and then makes us similar barking sound back at her. Alex [ChaCha] (01:04:29): Does ChaCha know this? Daniel [GM] (01:04:31): She doesn't. Marietta [Atalia] (01:04:32): Jeskii barks. Daniel [GM] (01:04:36): And the creature kind of turns its finger towards Stannis. And Stannis holds up a hand with two fingers and goes very slowly. And the creature actually seems worried. Stannis makes a couple other barking sounds and looks around at the rest of you and says, "Is any of you dead?" Marietta [Atalia] (01:04:59): Not to my knowledge, I haven't. Alex [ChaCha] (01:05:01): I don't want to say Nix has died, but I can't tell from here. Daniel [GM] (01:05:04): Nix should start snoring. Marietta [Atalia] (01:05:08): Okay, she's breathing, she's making sounds. Alex [ChaCha] (01:05:11): What if I was dead this whole time and I'm just an animated corpse? Daniel [GM] (01:05:15): Stannis pauses for a moment and looks at you, ChaCha, and says, "Theory worth considering," turns back to the creature, motions at the teleportation, motions at Dili, and makes another barking sound at it. Alex [ChaCha] (01:05:30): I think we're sacrificing Dili to the teleporter. Marietta [Atalia] (01:05:34): I think she's telling him, but he can fix it. Daniel [GM] (01:05:36): And this creature takes a step back for a moment and it seems to be considering. And it's at that point that Stannis' right hand begins to glow again like it did in the cave. And Stannis makes another barking sound. But then under her breath ... But dilly and ChaCha, you're close enough, actually also Atalia, are close enough to hear it. "Don't try me, motherfucker. Not today." And the creature finally takes a couple of steps back, motions with a welcoming gesture to the device, and retreats back to the wall to watch carefully. Stannis waits until it moves there, and then it kind of squats down on its haunches and starts watching the rest of you warily. And Stannis looks at ChaCha and says, " Check Nix, make sure she's okay. Dili, check Atalia." Alex [ChaCha] (01:06:34): ChaCha goes to do it. Daniel [GM] (01:06:36): Be quick about it. We don't have much time. Sampson [Dili] (01:06:39): Dili goes to Atalia. Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:40): It's just I can't really walk very fast and do anything very fast, but I can still scan things if you want me to scan that? Sampson [Dili] (01:06:47): Yeah, all right. Let's get you up and let's get you moving a little bit. We'll try to at least act as a support crutch for- Marietta [Atalia] (01:06:57): When did you get so strong? I don't remember you being so strong? Did you get stronger between now and then? Sampson [Dili] (01:06:57): No, when? Marietta [Atalia] (01:07:03): Okay. Let's go look at this teleportation device, see if we can fix it. Daniel [GM] (01:07:08): ChaCha, you go over to Nix. Nix seems to be unconscious, but she seems to be breathing steadily now. Alex [ChaCha] (01:07:14): Can I use my training and healing to help her? Daniel [GM] (01:07:19): You sure could. I think this will be, with your training, it'll be a six. Alex [ChaCha] (01:07:24): Nat 20, a power of love. Daniel [GM] (01:07:28): Okay. So how does ChaCha used the power of love to bring Nix back to consciousness enough that she can actually do a recovery role of some sort? I would say with your natural 20, you're going to be able to give Nix like ... I think Nix had already expended her action recovery roles and things like that. Stace [Nix] (01:07:43): Up to 10 minutes. An hour is next. Daniel [GM] (01:07:47): Okay. I think with your nat 20, if you can give me a good narrative like power of love, you can give Nix a free action recovery role that she could take right now. Alex [ChaCha] (01:07:57): So Nix is already curled up semi-fetal. Daniel [GM] (01:08:03): Semi-fetal. Alex [ChaCha] (01:08:04): Chacha goes and spoons her, ChaCha is the big spoon, and just kind of hugs her, and does a little backpack spoon. Daniel [GM] (01:08:12): Okay. Nix you start blinking blearily as you're kind of coming to consciousness. You have a terrible headache and your vision still a little hazy, but you do feel warm and safe. Stace [Nix] (01:08:25): ChaCha, is that you? Alex [ChaCha] (01:08:28): It's the power of love. Stace [Nix] (01:08:31): I'm sorry. And if this disrupts the flow of the narrative, I understand if it's removed, but wasn't ChaCha not sure that she loved Nix enough to run through Argon for her? Daniel [GM] (01:08:42): Yeah. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:42): I was also thinking that. Alex [ChaCha] (01:08:46): It's like a [crosstalk 01:08:46] of the power of love. But yeah, this is the second time. Stace [Nix] (01:08:51): Extremely conditional love. Marietta [Atalia] (01:08:53): As long as ChaCha's not in danger, it's the power of love. Alex [ChaCha] (01:08:58): Atalia, you hear her mutter under her breath, "Terms and conditions apply. Not available in all areas." Daniel [GM] (01:09:09): So I assume, Nix, you're going to take that recovery role? Stace [Nix] (01:09:11): Oh, for sure. But she kind of lifts her head up a little and then feels the pounding headache, and she's like, "Thanks, ChaCha." Oh, I rolled a normal D6. What is this life? All right, four points back, but what does that do for my damage track? Daniel [GM] (01:09:28): Because your damage track wasn't caused by any damage to yourself, any damage to your pools, you are now no longer in any of those damage track problems. Stace [Nix] (01:09:40): Really? This was a net gain for Nix, overall. Daniel [GM] (01:09:42): Yeah. Atalia on the other hand is in bad shape. Because even though she did go under, she took serious damage to her pools. Marietta [Atalia] (01:09:50): Yeah, I'm pretty wrecked, not going to lie. I'm going to take my ten minutes if I can, unless Dili needs me to help. Sampson [Dili] (01:09:58): Dili's going to ask for your help, but he's not going to expect your help. So it's just kind of like, "Why don't you help me out, kid? Just sit right there." Daniel [GM] (01:10:11): "Why don't you work on the schematic for me?" And he just hands you a box of Crayola crayons and stuff like that. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:17): Are you sure you don't want me to scan it? Sampson [Dili] (01:10:20): I think I can figure this out. If you want to just hold the Understanding Numenera book for me, that'd be great. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:27): Yeah. You have one of these too? Sampson [Dili] (01:10:30): I do. Marietta [Atalia] (01:10:32): That's cool. I have an understanding Understanding Numenera book. Sampson [Dili] (01:10:35): Yes, you do. Daniel [GM] (01:10:43): Dili, we've got to move. This thing is not going to be patient forever. Congratulations, guys. You appear to have released a prisoner of some sort of conflict that is not good and long-lasting. So we should move soon. Sampson [Dili] (01:11:07): Working on it. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:08): Do you have your crystals? Daniel [GM] (01:11:11): And at that point, you hear klaxons sound in the ship, and Stannis looks around, and the creature kind of looks around and almost makes a sneering expression. Stannis turns. He's like, "Yeah, the ship is hungry, and it's getting cranky about it." And that's where we'll end this episode. Stace [Nix] (01:11:30): Dang. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:32): It's fine, I'm sure. Marietta [Atalia] (01:11:34): I wonder if we can feed the ship Huriks? Daniel [GM] (01:11:37): So I think it's only appropriate that we ask Sampson about something with Dili this episode, because Dili tiered up. Sampson [Dili] (01:11:48): Yeah. I think the coolest thing that happened was that he got a flesh eater cipher. Daniel [GM] (01:11:53): Not that he tiered up? Sampson [Dili] (01:11:54): It was going to happen eventually or he was going to die. But he didn't die yet. Daniel [GM] (01:11:57): Oh, come on, Dili running into danger to help his friends? Sampson [Dili] (01:12:02): Yeah, it was cool, I guess. I'm not going to make a big deal about it, just because I don't think Dili has fully thought about it yet. Marietta [Atalia] (01:12:08): [inaudible 01:12:08] Daniel [GM] (01:12:09): Gotcha, that's fine. Marietta [Atalia] (01:12:10): It might make Atalia cry. Daniel [GM] (01:12:16): Yeah, that's fair. Sampson [Dili] (01:12:17): Yeah, I don't think Dili is consciously aware that he is improving. He just made that step. Daniel [GM] (01:12:23): Okay. So we have a segment that we do each week called Player Intrusions. That's where we offer you, the listener in XP, to check out something we think you would really dig. This week, it is Marietta's turn. Marietta, what would you offer our listeners in XP to check out? Marietta [Atalia] (01:12:38): I really thought about this a lot, and I researched all of the dates, and the timelines, and all of the specific details. So this is going to be really thorough and in depth. But I'm going to talk about Fruits Basket. You may have seen it like a decade ago. Well, it turns out that it was originally a graphic novel, and that was really cool. And then they turned it into an anime, and it was a little dated. And then they were like, "Hey, let's make a new version in 2019," which was amazing. They completely redid all of the original anime of Fruits Basket and followed along with manga a little bit better. And they actually pulled the original English voice cast. So Laura Bailey is still Tohru Honda, which is really amazing for me who is passionately in love with Laura Bailey, in case anyone was wondering. But it's basically, if you're somehow unfamiliar with Fruits Basket, which I'm sure you already know, but it is anime involving Tohru Honda, whose mother has unfortunately passed away, and she's living in her tent on some land in the woods. And it turns out to be the Soma family. It's this whole family, and they're all cursed by Zodiac spirits. So when they're hugged by some of the opposite gender, they turn into their animals spirit. "Oh my gosh, that's so conflicting. It must make high school so awkward. Let's make an entire animate about it." But really it's about like dealing with your inner demons and problems in your life, and how to be healthy, and communicate emotions, and build relationships and friendships. And it's just really wholesome and good, even though it also makes you cry regularly. And I don't know. I think how they redid it for 2019-2020 is just the update I needed. It felt really wholesome and good and forward and positive. I feel like there were some traps that the earlier version kind of fell into that this did not. So that was nice. And there's a second season, which is amazing, because there's only one season of the original anime, which just kind of leaves you hanging and you don't even get into the nitty gritty of the curse. Like, "What is happening here? How is this all work?" And now, it's 2020, and the world is so strange, and we have a second season coming out of Fruits Basket. And at the time that this is released, it should all the way be out. I personally have not seen all of it yet, but it's getting really dark. It's getting in there guys. We're here for the full ride and I would love to hear what you think about it, and who your favorite character is. And who Tohru should love forever, obviously, is the biggest debate. So yeah, anime, it's great. It's great to cry too. And this is one I would recommend the English voice cast, and that's mostly just because of Laura Bailey. Daniel [GM] (01:15:22): Okay. Marietta, are you team Red or team Pat? Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:25): Oh, I don't know. It depends on the day, it depends on the mood. I'm team everyone. Why can't we all just be together? It's fine. Monogamy is overrated, come on. As long as we love each other, it's fine. Stace [Nix] (01:15:43): We can say that. None of our significant others listen to the show. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:47): Yeah, that's probably okay. I could write some great fan fiction about it, I'm sure. So maybe that's what I'll do next. Sampson [Dili] (01:15:55): Yeah, someone's probably beaten you to it. Marietta [Atalia] (01:15:57): You're right. I need to just go look for it. Stace [Nix] (01:16:00): It's already been written. Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:02): Dang it. Daniel [GM] (01:16:03): Cool. Well, if somebody wanted to reach out to us and tell us what they think about the show or about Fruits Basket, how would they do that, Marietta? Marietta [Atalia] (01:16:10): Well, the best place to start would be our website, which is explorerswarranted.fm, and they would find links to all of our social medias. We are particularly active on Twitter, where we're @explorerswanted, and we also have an Instagram where we're @explorerswantedpodcast. And on Facebook, if you just search for explorerswantedpodcast, we'll come up. And then we have a Discord, which is where you should really come to hang out with us. There are links on all of the social medias and on our website. We're very active on there, and we would love to hear from you about your plants, or your animals, or what you think, or what video games you're into. Or show us your minis. We want to see them, actually, please. And if you'd like to support us financially, which would be really amazing because we've got big dreams, you can do that on Patreon. We're Explorers Wanted on there, and have some goals that we are seeking to achieve. That is a way that you are able to support us. We would really appreciate it, yeah. Did I miss anything? Daniel [GM] (01:17:08): No, you got it all. Marietta [Atalia] (01:17:08): Okay, good. Marietta [Atalia] (01:17:08): Nailed it. Daniel [GM] (01:17:13): If you enjoyed the podcast, the best thing that you could do for us is to tell a friend about us, and tell us what you liked and why they should listen to us. The second best thing you could do would be to leave us a five-star review on a podcast directory like Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or Podchaser. And in fact, we have a new five-star review on Apple Podcasts. Tell us about that, Stace. Stace [Nix] (01:17:35): Yeah, AEMT85 from the US of A said, "The kind of Numenera game that I'd like to play. I've purchased the Numenera books and am obsessed, but I have not been able to play yet. I sampled both video recordings and podcasts all over the net, looking for the most engaging GM and the coolest cast to familiarize myself with actual gameplay. I stopped looking when I found Explorers Wanted. I'm coming up on The One That Left, released on July 22nd, 2020, and have had a blast listening. Daniel's creativity and style of co-creation with the crew have been inspiring. It has been decades since I've GM'd, but his sense of humor, facility with what is basically a new system for me, and his ability to smoothly interweave multiple story arcs has made me want to try it too. "I'm more than a little in love with the cast as well. Stace's Nix is fearless, enviably cool, and dripping with confidence and heart. Marietta's Atalia is daring, resourceful, and sometimes the voice of reason. And I always identify with Seskii people. Alex's ChaCha is otherworldly, brutally honest, and hilarious. For lack of scorps, I promised to do a puppet show for myself next time I eat shrimp. Sampson's Dili is slightly broken, angsty with reason, poor guy, funny, and seems to need a hug. I look forward to seeing him develop into a bad-ass. "I've enjoyed the story so far is presented by Daniel and the awesome Explorers Wanted crew. The podcast makes me feel like I'm there with them as they play with enthusiasm and style. You can tell they're having a great time. I had previously been listening to Explorers Wanted on Spotify, but I'm doing it on Apple Podcasts now, only because I wanted to leave a review," thank you, "To let everyone know how much I've enjoyed what they're doing. This is the only review I've ever written. I will listen to anything that these fine human beings do in the future. Keep up the good work." Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:19): Wow. Daniel [GM] (01:19:20): Wow, that's a hell of a review. Thank you so much, AEMT. Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:22): He stole my heart. Do you want to come hang out on our Discord? We would love to hang out with you. Daniel [GM] (01:19:30): Yes, yes. Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:31): Unless they're already there. Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:34): Are you already there? Do we know you already, because we're probably already in love with you then? Marietta [Atalia] (01:19:37): The reviewer's already inside the house. No, but seriously, thank you. That was really nice and very specific, which is great for reviews, because it just lets people know what's up and what we're about. Daniel [GM] (01:19:51): Yeah, thank you so much. Stace [Nix] (01:19:52): Thank you so much. Daniel [GM] (01:19:54): If you didn't like the podcast, or if you thought it was just meh, well then, don't bother with a review. But I do want to go through an exercise with you. So for a moment while you're listening to this, close your eyes. No, seriously, close them for a moment and listen carefully. Imagine yourself standing in the middle of a dark wood on a winter night, no leaves on the trees, and a bed of snow on the ground that crunches quietly underneath your feet. You're utterly alone here. You watch the shadows of branches as they are silhouetted in the Moonlight. They sway naked and chilled in the frigid air, and you feel that same chill against your spine and the back of your neck. Inhaling is a shock of ice against your lungs. And that's when you realize that you can hear the trees groaning in their hunger. And that's when you realize they aren't hibernating at all; they're starving. You see strange movement in the snow as if sinuous roots are stretching in search of new sustenance. Now open your eyes again. You still see the trees, don't you? You're still there in the middle of the forest. I wish you luck finding your way out. But most of all, I'd advise you to hurry. If you want to reach out to us individually on social media, you can. You can find me on Twitter, @andrlik, A-N-D-R-L-I-K. Stace [Nix] (01:21:11): You can find me on Twitter, @stacewindu. Sampson [Dili] (01:21:13): Team Cat, @signpotato. Marietta [Atalia] (01:21:15): If you just imagined a horrible treant situation from Lord of the Rings, and now look at the books funny, you can tweet at me, @realtyunicorn on Twitter. Marietta [Atalia] (01:21:26): Yeah, I'm actually a sea horse person, and you can tell me what kind of psychology issues that is, @Imonahike. Daniel [GM] (01:21:35): Okay, that's it for us. Thank you all for listening. I hope you enjoyed the show. We will be back next week as we will for every week in the foreseeable future. Have a good night, day, afternoon, or whenever you're listening to this. And bye. Marietta [Atalia] (01:21:35): Bye. Stace [Nix] (01:21:35): Bye. Marietta [Atalia] (01:21:35): Bye. Marietta [Atalia] (01:22:23): I am really good at making things work for myself though. In fact, one might say it's a feat. Stace [Nix] (01:22:29): I don't know if anyone would call it a feat. Marietta [Atalia] (01:22:32): I'm winking, by the way. Anyway- Stace [Nix] (01:22:36): Listeners, Marietta is now winking at you. Marietta [Atalia] (01:22:43): Bet I'll get another seltzer. I need some fortification for this. Marietta [Atalia] (01:22:46): They have your nice character rolled up? Marietta [Atalia] (01:22:49): Never. If I have to get a few, I'm sure I could browse.
