11:27.58 Dave I'm your host Dave and I am joined tonight by Cameron Cameron has it going. 11:32.43 Cameron Ah, it's going pretty well the sun's starting to come back. My cat has fallen asleep and I've been playing a lot of boldder gate 3 Ah so it does happen eats up the time but yeah, doing pretty well out here. 11:40.24 Dave That happens that happens. Yeah it while it's still hot. There's a thunderstorm on the horizon. So we'll we'll probably keep this one a little bit shorter than normal. 11:48.38 Cameron About on your end of the world. Oh boy oh. 11:59.96 Dave Um I got my I on the radar just in case and yeah, other than that it's been It's been pretty good. Um, it's hopefully trending toward fall. It's it's. Soon to drop below triple digits. Finally, this summer has sucked. Ah, both Leonard and Matthew are out for this week um various obligations outside of their real life sometimes happens and yeah. 12:18.29 Cameron And. 12:24.80 Cameron Yeah, yeah, real life happens out there. 12:35.44 Dave And they're dealing with it so it'll just be us to holding down the fort. But luckily I found the most warm and toasiest film that that I could look up on to be and not feel like I was breaking the the. 12:38.69 Cameron E. 12:46.77 Cameron E. 12:53.82 Dave Strike Picket line. 12:55.50 Cameron Yeah, that's fair, um I feel like Australia has shadow banned to this film because I had to watch this on daily motion. Yeah, it's it just does not exist as far as I can tell and I don't have a vpn because I can't be bothered. Ah. 13:00.46 Dave Really huh. 13:11.91 Dave That's where you went wrong Cameron always protect yourself vpn. Yeah, which is great because you can always change your region where you're at and. 13:13.70 Cameron That's where I made the mistake one day I'll figure that out. 13:25.50 Cameron Mm I'm gonna'm go to be in America for a week so I can watch turkey your gorless. 13:28.60 Dave Yeah, or no I've done the other way I've I've like actually switched over to like I switch over to Japan I'm like I would like to watch strange films on Netflix what's here ha no subtitles. Oh well, that's okay I can understand it. Yeah, speaking of that. So. 13:34.93 Cameron Um, yeah, no, that's fair, get all the get all the strange stuff oop yeah. 13:47.64 Dave Ah, tonight's pick I grabbed this off 2 weeks because we're doing tobi trash. That's our thing for ah actually I think this is the last week of tubi trash kind of yeah yeah, we hit we hit Youtube land. Um, after this. 13:54.57 Cameron Mm is ah sort of yeah. 14:02.75 Cameron Oh yeah, that's true. Oh man this this year is rolling ahead I'm not ready. Yeah, oh yeah. 14:04.95 Dave Because Liza P is next week. Yeah I say that but we're probably recording the week after simply because the the drop date versus like time to record it's too too narrow so we'll. 14:20.53 Cameron Yeah, exactly you guys would have like 6 hours to play the game. 14:22.14 Dave We'll keep you all posted. What's happened I think there's probably ah and it might be your pick I think next week 14:32.50 Cameron Um, we'll see because I might not be here next week. We'll figure that out back to Land Cat toy. Yes, well we'll swing there round see how it goes. 14:36.40 Dave Okay, well then it's back to Leonard I think yeah yeah, because Robots was Matthew okay, well we'll figure it out and y'all know when we know. Ah so yeah. Ah, what I have selected is a I don't a cult classic. Maybe maybe? um, ah it's famous for something? Yeah, ah so I picked tokyo gore police its 2008? um. 14:57.60 Cameron A cult something. 15:07.73 Cameron M. 15:11.16 Dave Blatder film from Japan directed by nishma nishurra. Ah, yoshiro and it stars everyone's favorite Ahi Shina as them are our main protagonist fans might know her from film such as audition where she was the lead. 15:22.22 Cameron Button. Written. Yeah. 15:30.21 Dave The antagonist and then everything else. She's been in has been kind of like me movie. Mostly you know when you see her though. She's. 15:35.17 Cameron She wait she was in oh man I thought she was in skyhig the superhero teen film. But no, she's in sky high the Japanese Supernatural action film Now that's cool. 15:46.80 Dave Yes, completely different and she's in hell divers which is pretty cool. Yeah, so yeah, ah and um, we were discussing this in the the green room. So the the title of the film Tokyo gore please is the. 15:53.29 Cameron Yeah. 16:00.60 Cameron M. 16:06.44 Cameron M. 16:06.53 Dave English translation um with liberties because the ah the original title is tokyo zang coku k satu so it's the the cruel Tokyo police which is more on the nose I think um, there's gore involved in the movie. 16:16.30 Cameron Yeah, yeah I commit goal. 16:26.30 Dave And the police do some gore but it's It's basically hinging on if people are given like no oversight and kind of unlimited power. They do. 16:40.90 Cameron Oh yeah, yeah, so. 16:43.50 Dave Terrible things. Yeah so Tokyo cruel police is more are like what the movie kind of is yeah it ah, it's a yeah, it's pretty much an independent film. Um. 16:50.00 Cameron So yeah, so. 17:00.43 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 17:03.31 Dave And it was released. Ah yeah, and ekatsu distributed it and Sony pictures distributed in the Us. It was one hundred and ten minutes so unlike the last few films we've covered I think this was about the perfect runtime. It did not need to be any longer. 17:09.27 Cameron Yeah. 17:19.73 Cameron No. 17:21.81 Dave And but I don't think it. It could have been shorter I think this is like it's right where it needed to be. Yeah. 17:27.18 Cameron So it's pretty tight and there's not much that is like excessive runtime stuff like there's plenty. That's excessive. Um, it's all excess I Like yeah every scene does do something. 17:37.16 Dave Um, it's all excessive. Um, yeah, it's pushing it forward 1 way or another. 17:42.74 Cameron With the story at least as there's no like no no, 1 ne's walking through the cambodian jungle for three and a half hours ah 17:50.59 Dave No, and then this had fairly high critical reception 82% fresh on Rotten tomatoes. Um, and just internationally it's so I think the big takeaway is. 17:57.92 Cameron Um. 18:01.79 Cameron Here. 18:07.12 Dave It's an a for the genre. It's an average entry because this sort of like it's weird. It led the way into like a bunch of splatter horror kind of films. 18:21.16 Cameron Yeah. 18:25.39 Dave Um, but I think everything they came after was the the tighter movies like they they did it better going forward. 18:31.68 Cameron Yeah, yeah, absolutely this one. It's a little unpolished. Maybe. 18:41.20 Dave Yeah, yeah, the the visual effects. Um, everything is I I don't think there's real I mean if there's I don't think there's see shows I think every it's all practical effects in camera. Um I can't think of any exceptions just maybe editing stuff. 18:52.20 Cameron M. 18:59.80 Dave But um, it was done in a svelte ah two week shoot yeah and we we tried to find the budget. There's no way this was like super high budget. It's like this is squib work or it's it's fantastic. 19:02.21 Cameron Yeah, lean. 19:12.28 Cameron Nah. 19:16.26 Dave Um, a lot of ah prosthetics and um stand-in dummies that get like eviscerated and so what right at the start the whole time and. 19:23.88 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, right from the start they show you where they stand and. 19:35.82 Dave Conceptually, it's horrifying. But I don't remember like if you're a gorehound This isn't the movie that's going to say that like it clearly looks fake. 19:37.67 Cameron E. 19:47.95 Cameron Yeah, it's really yeah, it's really leaning on the nearly orange Jets of spraying blood. Yeah. 19:53.18 Dave Like you can't mistake this and go Oh no, it's a video nasty and we got a ban it. Ah ah yeah, and the bodies are dick. They're very rubber. Um, but it's. 20:05.70 Cameron But yol. Yes, yeah. 20:10.64 Dave It knows what it's doing and it's like it's not the look of it. It's the idea and it's it's azure. You're you're invested in this film because it's horrifying the stuff's happening is not pleasant to watch but it doesn't it's. 20:17.97 Cameron Um. 20:22.15 Cameron Oh yeah, no. 20:29.10 Dave Skirting the line So can't even say it's close. It's as it's skirting it. It's leaning really hard in like the this is hell a fake but it's that makes it charming. 20:41.57 Cameron Mmm yeah, if they had realistic effects. This would just be horrifying and not half as fun. Yeah. 20:49.44 Dave Yeah, you don't want that I think like this needs to be a comic book so something that came out prior to this ah to 2003 maybe is um, itchy the killer maybe it doesn't one. 20:53.76 Cameron M. 21:02.36 Cameron Button 3 21:07.20 Dave Could be off of my dates. Ah so that the effects are like very specific and they're horrific and with the exception of a few little shots. Um, it looks fairly realistic which is. 21:14.58 Cameron So. 21:22.23 Cameron Yeah, oh yeah. 21:24.55 Dave Definitely kind of like gut churning or you take something if you're doing so splatter horror and take something like the Guinea Pig Films Ah subject matter wise they're fantastical but like the actual what's happening on screens like. 21:33.17 Cameron First button. 21:43.58 Cameron Yeah. 21:44.46 Dave Disturbing So this isn't doing that This is like horror sci-fi and it Yeah, it's something that like gets revisited later by this director and um. 21:52.35 Cameron Yeah, yeah, so. 22:02.40 Dave Is collaborators. They're all big I think they're from like the same vfx like University like the school they went to and so they all have a similar vibe in how they do effects for their movies. 22:05.61 Cameron Um. 22:08.90 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 22:18.79 Cameron Who. 22:20.68 Dave It's all it's all practical. They they try really hard I think to stay away from cg stuff so it doesn't date the films but the directive director cinema or not if you're taking them into a festival or direct to video. It looks like that still. So. It's not grainy, but it looks like low budget because it is. There's a Sheen there's it's very wet so it's it's the ah's the troll. 22:40.58 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, it's got that Sheen. The. 22:58.35 Dave Universe of splatter or horror. Yeah, actually it may be less moist and Troll is very moist like uncomfortably so this is like yeah, it's. 22:58.90 Cameron Yeah, yeah, that's a good way to put it if troll was even troll was very moist. That's true. Yeah, it's close, but it's not quite there. 23:16.53 Dave Misty Red perpetually everything like there's a lot of blood rain but not the vampires going on here fountains fountain. Yes, every everyone is full of way more blood than they should be and it's under pressure. 23:18.21 Cameron Um, yeah, like yeah high blood pressure is a significant problem in this universe it's Jojo's universe rules you can lose like fifteen liters of blood as long as you clamp down after that it all comes out and won't go so ah god I was going to say no one has bones but people definitely have bones in this film. 23:34.89 Dave Yeah, yeah, everyone's just like you know, not particularly bendy I think you snap before you before you bend. They have bones but they sometimes they don't and it's really weird. That's probably the worst thing really is people showing where their bones should have been but it's just goop like it's gone now and now said there's a key. 23:52.52 Cameron Yeah, but. 23:57.33 Cameron Mm. There was a bone here. It's gone now. Yeah, oh man. 24:09.29 Dave Yeah, yeah, so ah, what this movie's about and I'll try to do the 3 sentence thing that I've been trying to steer everything into. Ah it's a present future like the 5 minutes into the future future. 24:14.55 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 24:26.80 Cameron So. 24:29.28 Dave Ah, at the time and the the Tokyo Metropolitan police department has been privatized so they're they're they're like a corporation. Yeah, and. 24:42.13 Cameron Yeah, they're a Pmc at this point. 24:48.90 Dave Because of that they don't have the oversight they are battling. They're built up to be able to battle against um these beings called the engineers which are serial killers or just like violent folks and who have been. 24:49.57 Cameron Button. 25:04.48 Cameron Yeah. 25:08.64 Dave Granted Powers to recover from any wound and make that wound a weapon like weaponized self-harm. Ah and the mystery of the film is to figure out why. 25:17.70 Cameron Um, yes, who. 25:26.81 Dave These people are being transformed and what's going on with the blatant corruption in the police force. That's the movie. Yeah, easy one. It's also like a weird I as I was. 25:27.31 Cameron Button. 25:32.80 Cameron Yes, yeah, that's that's it Yeah easy. 25:41.27 Dave Doing the plot I'm like this is also kind of the plot of bubblecomm crisis a little bit. You have a police force that's specifically built around fighting a menace that's above like it sits a super human menace. 25:44.10 Cameron Yeah, a little bit. 25:56.10 Cameron M. 25:58.63 Dave Um, and along the way becomes corrupted by its own power like like like are are we as the police worse than the things that were like tasked to defeat. 26:03.20 Cameron Yeah, yeah I believe it. 26:17.86 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely Um, as an aside, if you're listening and ah self harm is a trigger or anything like that for you don't watch this film. This is the most. 26:18.35 Dave And in this case, Yes, yes, that's what happens. 26:26.30 Dave Um, oh yeah, do not stop farming film. Yeah. 26:34.77 Cameron Yeah, yeah, it's It's pretty rough if if that's if that's something that's particularly bad for you. Yeah, don't watch this don't have to and. 26:45.66 Dave Yeah, it's it's gratuitous in a way that's ridiculous. But I I feel that that can be severely like a trigger like and it's not ah like it wasn't. 26:54.61 Cameron Yeah, yeah, exactly it's treated relatively casually. A lot of the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 27:02.80 Dave Bothering me specifically but I was watching it going. Oh yeah, that's way more intense than I remember it being So yeah, yeah, just as ah as a note self-harm is that's it's It's like the through line of the film. So. 27:12.20 Cameron And yes. 27:19.40 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, that took me off guard. So badly. 27:21.22 Dave It doesn't ever disappear like it's to the point where they make commercials like in universe commercials about it like Joyfully. So. It's maybe a little much. Um, yeah. 27:38.92 Cameron Man. Yeah, yeah, it's just like yeah this this hyper like sadistic masochistic version of yeah like very near future Tokyo where like yeah, it's it's infected the society to a a ludicrous degree where you know. 27:49.16 Dave Yeah. 27:58.87 Cameron This is just what life is like don't kill yourself at work. But if you're feeling stressed at school. We can buy this handy little hook knife to cut yourself with and Relieve stress. Um, yeah, that um, sure. 28:09.80 Dave Yeah, and it makes your blood taste delicious. Always you could not do yeah that was like what yeah as as a complete aside I was going to just host this. 28:22.50 Cameron Ah. 28:26.24 Dave Mostly in japanese and then I realized I I'm tired and I didn't want to do that for more than like a minute mm I know we'll get up earlier. We'll get Matt can Bra Matthew can practice his and yeah. 28:31.33 Cameron Ah, um, and I should be practicing by japanese to be fair, it's very bad and I'm going to Japan next year except yeah, would do. We'll do a whole episode where I speak 3 words very poorly and. 28:45.43 Dave Um, yeah, ah I mean we've done it before like in the very beginning little little little bits. Um, yeah, so we've we've discussed like the general plot of the movie. 28:50.55 Cameron Sugoi true. 29:04.44 Dave Um, and kind of skirted around I watched this when it came out like I was like searching for it avidly because it got a limited release in in the in the states. Ah this is the first time you've seen it and you went in probably pretty blind. 29:07.50 Cameron Yeah. 29:18.16 Cameron Yep yesterday. Ah yeah, like when I when I was looking around to try and find it I got a lot of thumbnails. But ah, they're all just of the main character and then a fountain of blood. So yeah, that. 29:27.70 Dave That doesn't prepare you? Yeah so it does not so what was your like main thought like when because this doesn't it doesn't like ease you in. It's like ha ha here you go. 29:34.34 Cameron That doesn't prepare you. 29:43.87 Cameron No, it just yeah, just throws you right in. 29:47.51 Dave But enjoy explosions of blood. So yeah, so how did how did you experience this movie. 29:56.50 Cameron Ah I watched this on my phone in bed which might not have been the best choice at the end of the day I needed to get up and walk around a couple times. Um, it was really interesting to watch I. I Did really enjoy seeing the practical effects and how they were doing things. Um it. It doesn't it did it doesn't peak my particular oh man that guy should be totally dead interest in a lot of like horror slasher style stuff. Ah, because it's so over the top that you know and and also things are very rubber like ludicrously rubber. Um, ah you know the scene where where um uruka is like harming herself with the Box Carter and it just switches to a rubber forearm and you're like okay yeah. 30:39.83 Dave Um, yeah. 30:49.74 Cameron And we're not disguising this. It's part of the part of the spirit of the thing It is like a celebration of that kind of schlocky Raw edgeged practical effect where they're not trying to make it look real. They're trying to make it give the impression that they want the story. 30:52.90 Dave No. 31:09.63 Cameron Is actually relatively simple. It has this nice easy clear throughline So it was actually pretty easy to keep up with which I liked and then the world and immerses you in is the most confusing and confronting one possible I think no yeah. 31:23.61 Dave Yeah, it's not good. You don't want to be there. 31:28.84 Cameron Yeah, exactly like it. It is just you They really throw you in the deep end of welcome to this world. This is the police force and here's our short little like blonde announcer in a minis skirt going. Okay, go and kill them all. 31:49.17 Dave Yeah, she's she's the dispatcher for the police force and it's it's like bizarro world like what is happening. Yeah, she's very very young gky girl. Um. 31:50.70 Cameron Yeah, shes yeah like a cheerlea. There's a little Marilyn Monroe that thing might have been what they were going for. Yeah. 32:05.28 Dave I will say that no one is going to go into this movie expecting irl with like giant finger quotes Rocket jump. 32:20.30 Cameron So yeah I didn't expect the Rocket jump. Um, no Auto wait wait a second when to team Fortress took. 32:24.49 Dave There's no way you could. It's just like what But what's happening. Yeah now this is like you got to go back further. Um, so when they the director based this movie off of like a student short film. 32:37.61 Cameron I mean I. 32:41.92 Dave That he had done in like 9095 so that would have been right around like the in between that movie and this is quake and quake is the rocket jump thing I'm betting is from that. 32:49.12 Cameron Ah, fair enough that is true. Yeah yeah, as like I say yeah team foes 2 came out three months before this film released I don't think they had quite enough time to wrap it like that. Yeah yeah, original quake. Yeah yeah, yeah. 33:00.80 Dave No no I'm thinking I'm thinking Quake Rocket jumps. 33:07.81 Cameron But that that is that was definitely a way to set the tone is you know have the have a have a swat squat have a swat squad got I can't speak apparently swat squad in fall in full like a feudal Japan Riot Gear it's right gear is just samurai armor which I love like you know they've got the big horns. Um, does anyone in Tokyo gore police gore someone with their helmet I don't think they do it's it's a bit of a mist. Yeah bit bit of a missed opportunity I'd say. 33:35.52 Dave Um, they do not and it's very disappointing particularly like the chief of police. 33:42.40 Cameron Um, but yeah, they they're going. They've got they've got you know bullop rifles and they've got their ride gear they're running in and then our main character once once the swat squad obviously doesn't ah doesn't do so hot. Yeah, she she pulls out a pulls out a rocket launcher and Rocket jumps up into the building. 33:59.36 Dave Yeah, so they're like a skyscraper so she like uses the Rpg to like blast herself quickly from the ground floor to the top. Yeah. 34:01.14 Cameron Which really really sets the time. Yeah. 34:09.25 Cameron And like three hundred feet into the air. Yeah, um, and um, you know it. It starts strong because the the first ah is I don't want to say anime the first antagonistic force here is the engineer. 34:20.20 Dave Engineer. 34:24.79 Cameron Ah, which is just it's just Jack from resin evil Eight seven brain not res like I can't could keep my numbers straight. He's he's just a guy with a chainsaw but in this case, the chainsaw is his arm. Ah eventually yeah, um, yeah. 34:37.66 Dave Eventually Yeah, so a fun part about this is that the the actor portraying that first engineer is um Taxakaguchi and he is a like prolific ah martial artist. 34:46.86 Cameron Written. 34:53.69 Cameron M. 34:55.36 Dave Stunt Man slash sometimes leading man. But um, he he he did all the fight choreography for this movie. Um, but his debut was in the film verses. 35:02.78 Cameron Oh. 35:12.15 Dave Or it's a bunch of people fighting zombies in a forest and he's just punching zombies really hard and it's it's weird because it like this. He's doing the cryography but he didn't like gave himself any showcase of fighting. He's just swinging up. 35:12.18 Cameron Um, okay, yeah, good for him. 35:31.72 Dave Rubber chainsaw around. 35:32.50 Cameron But sometimes sometimes you just want to have an easy job for yourself and make everyone else do all the clips. Oh yeah. 35:35.79 Dave It could have been I mean he he definitely like in the interim between this and now like has made up for that by just going to the wall with the the zaiest martial arts stuff. 35:53.10 Cameron Oh yeah, um yeah. 35:56.57 Dave But yeah, so the the big because this is it's not technically a monster movie but there's monsters um of all sorts. It's the people are the monsters the general thing but there is the engineers and the engineers are um. 36:03.80 Cameron There? Yeah no who button. 36:14.46 Dave Weaponized murderers. There are people that have been like bioengineered like in in in in post I don't know what you'd call it. They've been alive and they've been experimented on kind of. 36:16.49 Cameron Yeah. Yes. 36:32.30 Cameron Sort of yeah like we we get into it later in the film they they've had their they've had their murderous potential unlocked. Ah. 36:32.97 Dave Boosted boosted I don't know what to call it like bio boosted. Um, yes there we go there was there was a master of unlocking is here The the key man to bring back the resident Evil references. Ah yeah, so. 36:45.60 Cameron Um, yeah, yes, excellent. So. 36:53.72 Dave We find out that all of these engineers these murderers that are have like superhuman powers. Um, the 1 thing they have in common aside from their murderous rage is they have a strange tumor somewhere in their body. 36:59.88 Cameron M. 37:06.88 Cameron In the shape of a key. 37:09.43 Dave And the only way to like stop them from regenerating is by like destroying that key shaped tumor which were only given that information afterwards because we're we're graced with um. 37:14.35 Cameron But yeah, yeah, it's. 37:27.38 Dave Ah, Roka like evisser and I slicing and dicing this dude like so much dicing. Yeah like more more can you? Yeah she graph papered this guy. 37:32.72 Cameron Oh yeah, like to to a grid this man. This man looks like an onion that's about ah about to go in set him up is a 5 by 5 battle mat. Yeah. 37:46.54 Dave Yeah, and we don't know why she's just like because she's not gleefully doing it. She's like stoically slicing like no emotion just slicing and you realize afterward? Oh no, she had to like cut that little key. 37:49.14 Cameron Um. 37:55.50 Cameron No oh yeah, yeah, like ah completely. 38:05.60 Dave Tumor that's two inches long and doesn't know where it's at so just have to cut all of them in the cubes. You know. 38:08.82 Cameron Yeah section by section. Yeah yeah, ah yeah, um to it is. 38:22.11 Cameron Because it starts out as just like that sort of generic Body horror- I Slashy so us what is it called Againla Oh God slaughterhouse. No oh God Wasn it splatter Splatter House Flatter Pun Yeah style. 38:33.63 Dave Slaughterhouse The the video game splatterp Punk Splatter Splatter horror. It's not slatter punk Technically I guess just splatter. 38:41.25 Cameron And then and then we get this. It feels like a very supernatural element whereas like now the cause for all of this is a key shapeped tumor like why is it Keys shapeped what's going on and they did they ever explain why it's key shaped was that just the shape that it is I can't remember. 38:58.31 Dave They don't explain that they just it's a key that does unlocking and then then you put it in. It's kind of weird you use the key to unlock the potential to transform and then. 39:09.79 Cameron It's It's very strange. 39:17.97 Cameron Um, yes, and it's the center of the power. 39:18.17 Dave Once you've unlocked, you put the key in because it's it's both. It's both the um, the vessel for change and the thing that allows that change to happen. 39:33.55 Cameron Yeah, yeah, it's an interesting concept. Um, don't know maybe they just thought it was a cool shape or they really wanted to do the unlocking scene with the arm later on this book that one's rough. No, it's gross. But. 39:40.92 Dave Ah, probably. 39:43.90 Dave Yeah, that one's yeah I don't like to look at the key either. It's really gross. 39:51.20 Cameron It's it's all still like Twisty and meat shaped. 39:52.97 Dave Yeah, well, there's like a little metal key and then they like coated it in meat jelly. It's not pleasant to look at and it's wobbly no good. 40:00.42 Cameron Yeah, no, it's not yeah yeah, um, but yeah, so that's why that's why the engineers do what they do and that's how you stop them doing what they do and we get this explained to us by the most mad scientists. 40:16.92 Dave I was gonna yeah that was one thing I meant to say was like cameron. So how do you feel about this Autopsy scene. 40:17.24 Cameron Looking Guy Possible. So. Now Look I'm no professional I did flunk out of the course through to mental health issues but it it yeah should be fair. Yeah it and to be fair I don't actually need to complete the course to do the job I Just need to beat all the applicants who did the course. 40:31.84 Dave I Mean this guy may have two I I. 40:43.21 Dave I Yeah you might have trouble beating this guy though. 40:43.99 Cameron Qualifications not actually necessary to be a mortgage and and oh yeah, no, um, this man has replaced an entire limb with a pizza cutter powered by an electric drill. Um it. It look hey he finds the evidence. He pieces it Together. He's doing his job in this cruel Sadistic universe that he lives in I think by the standards of the of the the Tokyo gore police setting. This man is probably top of his class very professional and he yeah. 41:14.49 Dave I Mean he's got to be because that body was like diced it was. There was not much left and he didn't He didn't have to like try hard to go. Oh it's right here like I'm gonna I'm gonna Buzz saw this little piece here and oh look there. It is. 41:21.92 Cameron Yeah. 41:26.96 Cameron Yeah, he figured it out pretty quick. Yeah yeah, aminent professional. Definitely a bit of a weirdo so he fits in with everyone I knew from my course. Um. 41:33.24 Dave Yeah. 41:41.69 Dave Sands Hunch brack and I patch. 41:43.26 Cameron Yeah, yeah, no, you get those once you get the job and have them installed. Yeah, ah I'd be real I would I would have definitely pushed harder if I knew I got to dress up as an egor. 41:47.29 Dave Yeah, they're they're they're like it's actually part of the uniform. 42:00.44 Cameron Once I got the job. Yes, my master I will perform the ah the file b 17 8 eight c homicide um, ah, but it's all it's. 42:03.66 Dave Ah, yeah. 42:16.46 Dave Ooh. 42:18.83 Cameron It's all fun and games um down in the morgue. Well, it certainly is here to be fair though, the whole police force is here. Um, we have the police chief and then the police commissioner above him I think that's right. 42:37.90 Dave Um, yeah, the police commissioner is the big. The biggest helmet man. Yes. 42:41.21 Cameron He he's cigar man. Yeah yeah, biggest helmet biggest cigar. That's how you know he's in charge and you also know he's in charge I was going to say you know he's in charge because he's got a gimp actually. 42:51.65 Dave Um, and he's got the megaphone. 42:55.40 Dave The yeah. 43:00.47 Cameron Got got your um, partially amputated wearing the rubber gas mask with a weird machine strapped into their back a person on a chain just as ah as a statement of power question Mark. So. 43:11.94 Dave Yeah, and it. So yeah I don't I Maybe it doesn't it doesn't get explained and the weirdest part. So ah, we we meet him in like the weirdest way. 43:17.28 Cameron M. 43:27.78 Cameron M. 43:29.65 Dave I Think you could meet so ruca is told like over the the police channel and when she's coming back from a oh no, she she was she was on patrol and stopped by her. Um. 43:36.85 Cameron Button Patrol button. 43:47.49 Dave Her favorite bar that's run by like her longtime friend and she gets called back to the the um police station headquarters. 43:49.58 Cameron A niceish lady. Yeah, she button the station. The police abandoned apartment building that they live in. 44:04.69 Dave Yeah, it's not like you don't want to go there. Yeah doesn't look like anyone like actually works there and then people do they don't have an office they have like a little chair thing in the middle of a empty floor say what. 44:08.40 Cameron You get tetanus just by looking at this building. 44:15.30 Cameron Well yeah, yeah, you yeah yeah, well they took all the walls out put a bunch of pallets down and said this is good enough for us. We're spending money on the uniform. Yeah, we can't afford a janitor. Ah. 44:24.90 Dave Yeah, what's because they they privatize they have no government funding. So no, they put all their they put all their money into the little hats and then everyone gets equipped with like some sort of laser eye. 44:34.71 Cameron Yeah, all the money in the hats And yeah I got I do love the masks again just that mix of like yeah no. 44:42.63 Dave And a cano eye. It looks really good, but it gives you no like you don't get an eye vision so you don't know what they're seeing like okay oh yeah, so she Luka is told like. 44:53.70 Cameron That would that would have been on that. But yeah. 45:01.80 Dave We're under attack you have to get back to the headquarters and so she comes back and she has her tour and she's stalking around like the horrifying building and it's like every little area is lit by like a little warning like light and that's flickering badly. She gets up to. 45:09.98 Cameron Written. Yeah. 45:20.43 Dave 1 of the floors I guess it's the main office floor where there's it's empty and then there's a dude in the shadows and the fog machine and he's just like so docking toward her with a very clear specific silhouette. 45:23.10 Cameron Mm Yeah, that. 45:29.67 Cameron And. 45:37.40 Cameron Yeah, and. 45:38.97 Dave That you can't mistake for anything like this. It's this dude and then he's like look ah happy birthday and then the lights come on and everyone's like happy birthday and you're like but she would know what he looks like this is ridiculous. 45:47.71 Cameron We got to? yeah. Oh yeah, yeah. 45:58.26 Dave It's not like she doesn't know the commissioner. She was like raised by him specifically and unless he's somehow between then and now had a new hat New hat. Yeah, with my big horns and my my little gamp. 46:03.29 Cameron I mean I guess yeah I guess like new Hat Happy birthday and here's my new helmet. Um I mean I mean I guess you're living in the universe where anyone at any point could turn. 46:20.87 Cameron As sort of an explanation like engineers just sort of happen as far as they're concerned. They don't know why you get this tumor So I guess like there was an attack and no one else is here and he's manacingly walking towards me in the dark. Maybe it's an attack and then happy birthday happens. Um, it's weirdly. 46:26.10 Dave Um, yeah. 46:37.61 Dave Fabric birthday. Yeah and he has his um so he has like like throat cancer um is the impact didn't know his throats like scarred. 46:40.57 Cameron Positive. 46:46.40 Cameron Um, the he's he's infected I think right? Ah maybe I just saw the shot wrong because I was on a tiny screen but it looked to me like it was a key-shaped Scar and I was like oh. 46:58.95 Dave No, it's not. It's like it's a big giant patch like where you would get a tri outtomy so he has that and then instead of having like the little speaking tube his little microphone. He has a full like ah bullhorn. 47:03.83 Cameron Okay, fair enough. Yeah. 47:09.42 Cameron Yes, he's got a megaphone. Yeah, it's like is like gorge it. Yeah, it's like built in as part of the neck armor which is really cool. It's a great design. 47:16.31 Dave Like attached to his uniform. Yeah yeah, so when he talks it just brought booms like broadcasts like his big. Yeah, it's pretty cool. 47:27.92 Cameron It's kind of um, kind of dread e almost it feels like it fits that universe style. Yeah, not what if Judgedre but people also randomly mutated into bio horror serial killers. They probably have that. 47:29.73 Dave Yeah, yeah, this universe is kind of dready I mean it's not good. You don't want to again, you don't also want to be in megacity one. It's bad. 47:45.00 Dave Um, I mean I think they have that in je red. Yeah. 47:47.67 Cameron It seems like something that would happen there. Um, but yeah, weirdly positive and wholesome delightful time in the police office. Ah yeah, terrifying flashback. 47:58.84 Dave Until she has her terrifying flashback like at the same time she is Shes so she's just really dramatized and should not be probably a bleed after there I don't think any of these people are should be please out event. Yeah. 48:08.40 Cameron Yes, oh no, absolutely none of these people should be a police officer. But um, yeah, we yeah, we get the flashbacks. it's it's great but it's not quite right and we Zoom back to the past of. Her dad getting her birthday cake while her mother stoically chops me is that just like a parsnna dycan ay true. Yeah chos a bunch of dcon and yeah, they they seem to have a troubled home life. 48:30.19 Dave No is dicon to britishish. Yeah. 48:39.48 Dave Yeah, there's more stuff going on that it doesn't like it doesn't have the time to get into but clearly these memories are that that's her memory but it's her trauma like informing it like I think the the events that happened aren't how they happened. 48:40.99 Cameron To say the least. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 48:51.88 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 48:59.00 Dave She's conflating a lot of things together. Um, yeah, she's not in a good space like ever just kind of gets worse. 49:03.65 Cameron No I mean yeah, it starts bad. It gets worse I mean like the the first thing we really see in this film is a police officer's head exploding which is later revealed to be her father and so yeah. 49:16.44 Dave Um, yeah. 49:21.26 Cameron Ah, they had They had fun doing that shot too. You can tell the over it switches to the mannequin but it's so fun. 49:23.82 Dave Oh for sure and well and then yeah, well even when she was jumping up to save the swat guy just not saving them. She's jumped up to like defeat the engineer like that's her purpose. She's an engineer hunter Um, Collateral Damage is not her concern at all. 49:29.62 Cameron Yeah, yeah, no, no. 49:40.81 Dave Because she definitely like accidentally murders a bunch of the police officers. She's like deflecting the chains on it's just it's killing people. It just keeps murdering people and she doesn't look. She doesn't care. She's just intent on defeating the engineer. Yeah. 49:43.69 Cameron Oh yeah, and it just keeps going into like people's mouth focused on the job. Yeah, she's goals driven. We got to speak positively. 49:58.95 Dave And then one then the and then the thing is like the the officers don't care they like oh this guy's killing us because our most powerful hunter is like deflecting the chains on it's it's collateral damaging us. 50:02.15 Cameron No, they they signed up for this. 50:13.28 Cameron It feel it feels very like anime style where like the Heroes are trading these enormous blows I'm just sitting back looking like every time this man swings his sword a mountain disappears who was living there. They don't care. 50:30.29 Dave Yeah, nobody not anymore. Well and that's a thing is like this. Yeah, this doesn't um the way they constructed it in the way that it sits in that kind of it's gratuitous, but it's cartoony. Um. 50:32.20 Cameron No one know it? No one's there now. It's a quarry now. 50:48.28 Dave It It needs to be that way. This is a case where you can't go back or not backwards. You can't go sideways and change this media like if you made this in anime like it I don't think I would like it like it. It would be too realistic I don't know how to. 50:58.55 Cameron Oh yeah, no. Well yeah, because you'd you'd be, You'd be in the setting where people looked like anime characters and then you do anime style violence to anime characters. So That's real and real whereas Here. We have live actors and then we have the very obvious plastic. 51:07.31 Dave Phrase that it just it wouldn't work. 51:18.67 Dave With Cartoony violence. Yeah. 51:23.88 Cameron Plastic replacements and cartoon violence done to them it. It gives it that slight distance to make it enjoyable rather than just sickening. Yeah, it's it. It's absurdism. Absolutely um, just amp the violence up until it. 51:30.70 Dave Um, it's like absurd like it's an absurdity. Yeah. 51:42.14 Cameron Becomes clear how like pointless and over the top. It is. 51:45.94 Dave Yeah, this isn't like something So ah, this is in the same wheelhouse as robocopp where it's it's It's literally like the corporate the corporatization and privatization of the police. 51:54.22 Cameron Yes. 52:03.84 Dave Like what that does to a society and that's what this is too but Robocopp is like harder to watch like the violence is it's it's It's equally like ridiculous, but it's done in a way where like it's kind of. 52:04.50 Cameron Yeah, absolutely. 52:11.83 Cameron It feels more real. Click button. 52:23.15 Dave Quickie like it's hard to like Okay, that's bad. This is like this is so messed up but it's rubbery So it's okay, like in that context it's like okay clearly this is really fake. You know. 52:31.52 Cameron So yeah, yeah, no, yeah, absolutely yeah, yeah, yeah, um, but yeah. 52:44.98 Cameron So yeah, we've we've met everyone we know who the chief police is we know who the police commissioner is um and you know the police are necessary in this universe because people are just attacking ah matrons in. Public bathrooms and putting them in boxes. Ah yeah, yeah, um, yeah, we we get ah a very uncomfortable scene of a of a a pro shoot with a client like wrapping up. 53:05.58 Dave After draining all of their blood. Yeah as you do. 53:22.52 Cameron And then we see her manager like is pimp the right term if they're a woman I don't know these things because it's not like a brothel. It's like an escort service style thing. It's not a centralized. 53:29.72 Dave Um, I them. Yeah and I know though I know the words for it but they don't sound great in English So she's just like the the manager will say that owner. 53:40.70 Cameron Yeah that's the the manager. Yeah, um, yeah, she she gets stalked as she's traveling about tokyo at night and goes into a bathroom at the train station and just gets 6 enormous things. Hyperdermic needles jammed into her all of her blood drained and then she gets folded into a cardboard box which is again, it's that absurd level of violence but this one. Yeah well what? because like 7. 54:07.73 Dave Um, it's it's very 7 but not gritty. It's just like horrifyingly rubbery. 54:15.82 Cameron Yeah, because yeah, 7 you'd have extra gore like leaking at the bottom of the box and the head would look super realistic right on top of like a mangled forest of things This looks like they had a full manic a full rubber mannequin of her just took all the supporting infrastructure out of it and literally folded it up and they're like. Put a bit of oil over it to make it look shiny and gross. Yeah, this sheened. Um, yeah, yes. 54:40.60 Dave Yeah, everything like I said everything's moist. Um, so the the the people like the flesh is moist but the setting isn't and I think that's part of what makes it work. 54:53.21 Cameron No yeah again again, they don't gel quite correctly. Things don't merge seamlessly. Yeah yeah. 55:01.99 Dave Um, yeah, but you kind of needed to be that way to to safely navigate mentally this this path. 55:11.28 Cameron Yeah, definitely. Um so yeah, so someone's out here putting folding women up into boxes and we can't have that we're we're the police force. We're here to keep people safe for a better society. Got. They they really push the for a better society line. Um, you know it's a slogan when it's written in like fifteen foot tall letters across their entire building and so ruka goes out on patrol on the train and as is the classic tokyo train trope. She gets. 55:26.70 Dave No yeah, all the time. Yeah. 55:45.74 Cameron Groped and because this is the Tokyo cruel police. She takes the person who groped her by the hand leads him out. Yeah yeah, leads him out to a back alley and cuts his hands off which yeah ball the station is surely a crying like you know what? that's messaging I can get behind. 55:52.31 Dave Um, Molestation is a crime. 55:57.16 Dave Yeah. 56:05.44 Cameron Um, you know it's very. It's very very pushy on that messaging. But yeah, so. 56:08.89 Dave Oh no for sure because the the the dude the whole time is like oh was a mistake it wasn't me I I did they mean to and then she's like yeah you can't do that So juop. 56:20.60 Cameron Yeah, we we had a full on fifteen second shot of you deliberately groping my ass. We know what's up. Yeah, and then again just the most hilarious gorgeettes ever as he just raises his stump up. 56:26.12 Dave Yeah. 56:35.77 Dave It's it's a slow mo like minute long fountain of arm hand blood I think it's actually 1 of the promo shots for the film. Yeah well she has her umbrella so it's like super iconic. 56:39.70 Cameron Yeah, yeah, shout out to the director taking a hard stance. Oh that's great because with no context. Yeah, yeah, because she yeah she doled herself up like an escort which means ah mini shorts. A like a kimono top. Yeah Harry does her hair up does her makeup and then yes she has her catana disguised as the ah the stick of an umbrella which is really cool I love swords disguised as other things. 56:58.62 Dave Um, yeah, it's like a howardie. 57:16.50 Dave Um, yeah. 57:19.97 Cameron But this leads to her encounter with the key man. Um, yeah, So she she gets she gets wind of him stalks him through they have ah they have a quick battle. Where she ends up finally landing a blow on him across the face and then he pulls the top of his head off because he's an engineer. 57:47.86 Cameron Um, and yeah, he's just like yeah well. 57:48.61 Dave Yeah, he's ah he's a dude that has injected him he he is the creator of engineers and yeah because he injected himself with the cells. 57:56.50 Cameron Yeah, he he is engineer prime ah miss miss engineer of Charles Manson yeah Yeah um yeah so this guy's backstory is ah. 58:02.82 Dave Of like multiple serial killers. 58:12.76 Cameron Long ago. There was a very skilled sniper working for the police and wanted to get out of the line of just killing people because at one point his own family was taken hostage. He couldn't take the shot so they fired him ah and one day there was a police officer. Rallying up the people against the privatization of police he wanted them to remain a government entity and so they they went back to the sniperman and said hey snipeman want to kill 1 more guy for a lot of yen and he went well my son wants to go to medical school and become a genetic researcher. So I guess I'll do it. Ah, this is ah this is the man who shot Rucker's father and who was then himself immediately shot in again like absurdism because they hired a sniper and gave him a snub revolver and said stand next to the guy and do it. Yeah. 59:02.60 Dave Yeah, there is in a crowd so it's a weird. It's that whole like it's like if you took the meme of the moon was haunted the whole time or whatever the astronauts. But then like put a third astronaut. 59:07.10 Cameron But he's dressed like a ninja. Yeah, it really does feel like that a little bit. Yeah yeah, um, but yeah, he's he's dressed like a ninja which is kind of fun and ah like I don't know if that's a nod to the actual origin of the Ninja which it was a stage hand who's meant to be unnoticed because they're all in black. 59:30.31 Dave Um, yeah I I think so yeah, they. 59:32.18 Cameron Feels like a little nod to that is like this guy wasn't noticed because he's all in black upie pops bang and then the camera draws we've already seen that shot in ruker's flashbacks and then the camera draws back and we see the police commissioner rise up behind pop pop ah pop out very short range sniper. Ah, directly in the head. Ah and when um, when the key man learned of his father's ultimate demise he went crazy for a bit and mixed all the cells of all the serial killers he was working on into 1 big shot and took took the shot. Ah. Just injected himself with a cocktail of like every famous serial killer of recent memory. Ah and it it turned him into super killer man with like tumors shapeped like key-shaped scarring across his chin. And up onto his face and stuff and sure excellent. He looks so much like a one piece. Yeah, absolutely. 01:00:32.84 Dave Um, it's super weird because he looks like a 1 piece villain. 01:00:37.77 Dave But he's too serious. He's too serious and it's too horrific they they yeah a you to oh that like cut him out of the the 1 piece canon. 01:00:48.17 Cameron I mean I could see it this this is ah this is Sandy's long lost third cousin or something we don't talk about him. Um, but yeah, that's how he became the first engineer and then you know. 01:00:59.94 Dave Yeah. 01:01:07.14 Cameron He figured out he could take this tumor that he has in his head and put it into other people that would turn them into engineers. Yeah yeah, he regrows every time he uses it to to infect someone? Um, but yeah. 01:01:12.75 Dave Um, yeah, well gets is a tumor so it just keeps replicating. 01:01:18.83 Dave Um, yeah. 01:01:22.79 Cameron Ah, so this is key man he pulls off the top of his head after Ruca slashes him across like the bridge of his nose to reveal an exposed brain with his eyes replaced with gun barrels because of course it Yeah, it's it's It's a. 01:01:35.64 Dave Um, yeah, and he shoots out like fleshy arrowheads. Yeah yeah I don't know he just he shoots a lot of them. It's um, unlimited. 01:01:41.93 Cameron 2 tumor arrows or something I don't know. Yeah yeah, um, yeah, he does the carnival classic of pinning someone to a wall with all of his bullets and then goes to ruka's left arm which. Earlier in the film. She had been cutting away out with a box cutter. Ah she obviously selfs harms a lot. She's been through a lot and doesn't have therapy in this universe. Um, and we get the the silliest looking and yet most disturbing to me prosthetic scene which is. He takes the tumor out of his head puts it towards her arm and like a keyhole appears and he unlocks the arm and it just flips open along the middle seam is like waving around with like little jets of blood. It's messed up. It's really. 01:02:27.54 Dave Yeah, it's wiggling and it's horrendous like don't wiggle Please it looks like a zipper. 01:02:36.20 Cameron Really really funny because the the transition from her real arm with really good scar makeup incidentally like on her real arm. The the scars from her self-harm look really good and then we switch to an arm that isn't a completely different skin tone and. 01:02:52.70 Dave Yeah, so the one these are the cgf effects are the few key openings. Yeah, they're not practical I Yeah yeah. 01:02:54.67 Cameron Has like no reflectiveness. Ah yeah, okay, wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh then the actual key insertion bit. Yeah yeah, but like when the the arm itself is clearly rubber at this point and yeah. 01:03:10.90 Dave But yeah, there's no bones in it like any time that the key opens a ah spot to embed itself in it's like hollow and just meaty. So it looks gross. It's like it's worse that there's no bones. 01:03:13.40 Cameron No no. 01:03:17.70 Cameron Yeah, yeah, there's nothing in there. It would have been way better if there were like clearly outlined bones. Absolutely I would have much preferred an owner and a Radius You can't just have no bones. 01:03:26.56 Dave Yeah, they're supposed to be bones. You can't just have this boneless wing. 01:03:35.99 Cameron Um, but yeah, he implants the key in her and then her arm closes back up that's in there and I believe she she just wakes up back at the station right? Yeah like hey we thought we lost you for a minute there but you seem fine doesn't look like you're infectious. 01:03:46.86 Dave Yeah. 01:03:55.80 Cameron Or anything I guess I don't have good tests for that. Yeah yeah. 01:03:56.25 Dave Okay, you don't you don't have a suspicious key shaped like so the the little scar on on the keymate. It looks like a scar like a kioid but on everyone else it looks kind of like a ringworm infection. 01:04:06.31 Cameron Yeah. 01:04:14.18 Cameron Um, yeah, it's just raised under the skin. Yeah, rather than actual scarring. But yeah I Guess that's how you tell and she's not showing signs yet at least um bunch of other people are. 01:04:14.25 Dave But it's just key-shaped instead of a ring. Yeah. 01:04:26.56 Dave Um, but a bunch of other people are like most of the city is is real. Okay, this guy's busy. 01:04:33.49 Cameron Yeah, this guy This guy's out Here. He's changing things up, um, the police chief not the commissioner um goes to a strip club that is just it's one of those old underground shady places. But. Because here all the dancers are engineers and we get a little Jungy eato-ish like I feel like you would know this? Yeah, these are not like girls with some sweet prosthetics Man. You know what? this is. 01:04:54.94 Dave Um, but he doesn't even know their and it's so weird. It's like this is his job. He just doesn't care. 01:05:07.60 Dave There's a snail girl. There's a there's a a teeth teeth boobs. Yeah. 01:05:07.10 Cameron This is yeah like jugieoing it up with the snail girl like go girl with teeth for nipples. Yeah, um, there's another one that I can't remember but then there is the chair. 01:05:25.96 Dave Um, that yeah so I can't even say it's Jugito. You know what it feels like it's feels like um devil man that be I think all of them they're all devil man except the snail. 01:05:28.12 Cameron Oh yeah, that that's a devil man chair. Oh yeah, yeah yeah, the a dronjiido Snail has more dignity than the snail. Yeah. 01:05:41.23 Dave Yeah I yeah yeah know that? yeah the show has a 0 dignity. It's like what. 01:05:49.91 Cameron Was the old the old ah miazaki from soft quote like you should show the degradation of a thing it had dignity once and now it's in this ruined state of mind. There was no dignity to begin with in any of these transformations we we started bad and we've gotten worse. 01:05:58.54 Dave No, it was just this state to begin with now. 01:06:07.10 Cameron Um, yeah Matt the the chair was both hilarious and also deeply disturbing again. It's it's just a person who has been fully transmuted into a into a chair like no head. No nothing. Um, they've got it hooked up to like an ivy and a breathing apparatus. 01:06:23.39 Dave Yeah, because it's breathing and it's like the worst part. Well the second worst part. 01:06:26.93 Cameron Yeah, ah, but the the worst part is probably the flaid vulva. 01:06:34.47 Dave Yeah, and they be like a little leaf on there. So then it looks like a core rock and it's just weird. There was a little leaf there and then no like a little leaf little Modesty leaf and then not ah and then the audience is just like. 01:06:38.84 Cameron Is that a leaf I assumed that was like the internal structure. Okay, never mind. Yeah, um, yeah, the really into it. Yeah yeahp. 01:06:52.70 Dave It's time for water Sports is the shower chair. Unfortunately we can't call the episode the shower chair because I'm not doing that gonna get us some trouble. 01:06:55.78 Cameron There is. It's the shower chair. You don't sit on it. 01:07:03.40 Cameron No, please don't do that. We all get in trouble. Um, but you know the the police Chief's really taken with um the lady with teeth for boobs and apparently this's not just a strip club but also a brothel and so he gets led into the back rooms. She seats him down and straps him down to what is clearly some sort of torture chair. Not even yeah, look I said what I said um yeah, and you know. 01:07:26.52 Dave Um, no, it's like a gynecologist share. 01:07:30.97 Dave Well yeah. 01:07:37.45 Cameron Starts to perform some oral sex and then key man walks in in the background. Ah, and the yeah yeah, that's my cue Chomp ah tears that thing right off God yeah. 01:07:41.97 Dave And she's like that's my key or my you. 01:07:49.80 Dave Oh chop and spit it's like I forgot that was here I'm like whoa. Okay, yeah, they're not playing. 01:07:56.86 Cameron Yeah, just a little extra trauma like look they won't show the penis attached to a person. But once it's being detached. It's fair game to have that thing on screen something something censorship and nudity laws are kind of insane the world round. Um, and then key man's like Cool. We're going to perform surgery to alter the human and just takes a drill to the police commissioner's left ankle and I'm like cool this bit's a bit much that feels horrendously real. 01:08:29.53 Dave It Yeah, it was a lot because he wasn't like it wasn't just okay I made a hole It was like he he I must spin it and like can you stop that please you're digging in there and this is not great. 01:08:36.42 Cameron Yeah, that one that one is like viscerally bad because it's not. It's not like the the funny body horror where things are like morphing and stretching and taking new shapes of like this man is having his ankle sword off with a power drill like. 01:08:52.62 Dave Yeah, no, it's it's like okay I mean it looks. It's like fake as hell but he keeps spinning it and he's not laughing but he might as well be and the other guy's screaming. It's just like okay this is. 01:08:55.57 Cameron I Don't want that that's fucked off right. 01:09:06.42 Cameron Ah, police Chief is selling screams. Yeah, it's yeah you could have stopped at any point um cost course he has no bones in his legs. What's University think this was. 01:09:10.92 Dave Doesn't need to go on for like a minute you could stop this please and he has no bones in his leg so it made it worse. Yeah. 01:09:23.29 Cameron Everyone. Everyone's actually just a really human shaped spider they move by just pumping blood around in there. Um. 01:09:30.54 Dave Um, yeah, once you once you pierce that Exoskeleton It's all it's all fun and games. 01:09:35.92 Cameron Yeah, oh boy. Um, yeah, and ah after after a little bit of foot hacking off torture. He gets a key inserted in him. He like he like escapes and tries to crawl away and. 01:09:50.10 Dave Um, yeah I thought like he was going to get the key put in his ankle because I'm like why else would you be digging a hole in there and then Nope he was just torturing him. 01:09:54.16 Cameron Mm. 01:09:58.85 Cameron But they wanted to they wanted to do a leg prosthetic in a later scene but they didn't have a good excuse for why the leg would have changed now we have one? Yeah um, but ah, the the woman with the with the teeth for boobs. 01:10:04.94 Dave Yeah, don't worry he gets plenty of other prosthetics. 01:10:17.78 Cameron Gets ah cut in half with an oozy this police chief was hat was packing in his back pocket. Ah, yeah, yeah, it's incredible. She didn't notice it earlier. All things considered. Um. 01:10:24.74 Dave Um, there he had in his front. He hit it and it's like shoved down his trousers in the front. 01:10:33.56 Dave Um, yeah. 01:10:35.46 Cameron Yeah, as she's she's like coming after him as he drags he himself away. He cuts her literally in half with the with the gun and then she sprouts a crocodile head from the waist down because Engineers can just do anything. Um, yeah yeah. 01:10:50.27 Dave Um, well so they they they develop. Ah they weaponize their So so the engineers weaponize their trauma. It's it's That's the the text and the subtext. 01:10:56.17 Cameron And yes, oh yeah, absolutely, it's just the very physical trauma. Obviously for the actual text. Um, yeah, so yeah, she. 01:11:07.86 Dave Um, yeah. 01:11:11.95 Cameron She grows a giant crocodile mouth for for legs and just scoots across the ground right? Adam which was very funny to be fair. Yeah it it just needs a little but but but but sound to go along with it. 01:11:18.20 Dave Yeah I mean if you're gonna have dentata just all of it or not it was actually kind of horrifying. 01:11:29.60 Cameron It was also a little horrifying. You know she she bites his other leg off again, but he gets the last laugh as she goes to bite his remaining hand off and he still has the gun which. I Guess I guess her tumor was right in the in the base of that ah crocodile mouth because he he does get her. He gets. He gets the most action movie line in the entire film which is he jams the gun and is like take this. 01:11:52.30 Dave Yep. 01:12:00.67 Dave They do that repeatedly. There's like everyone's final like line is in English and it's delivered in like the most dirty hairy voice you they could try to do but so not only that he. 01:12:04.84 Cameron Being so cool. Yeah yeah, um, yeah, absolutely. 01:12:17.58 Dave She bit his arm off his arm is still comically holding the the um like the MP five or whatever it is and he he grabs his own forearm because it's like death gripped onto the gun puts the gun there and then he can't. 01:12:20.93 Cameron Oh yeah, God right? it leans over. 01:12:30.24 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:12:36.57 Dave Pull his own finger. So he there's There's a tendon just like sticking out of the back of his arm and he just tugs it. 01:12:37.24 Cameron So He pulls the nose. Yeah yeah to to contract his finger and if it's so it's so Dumb. Feels like it should be viscerally upsetting to see someone Tug on their own tenon to fire a gun but the context is so ludicrous that it was great. It was great. It was fantastic. That is probably my favorite moment of the entire just out there. Not massively uncomfortable. 01:12:56.44 Dave They looks like a pole string. It's like not even you're like Okay yeah. 01:13:06.78 Dave Um. 01:13:11.50 Cameron Slightly early in the scene definitely but just like really showing how dumb you can get if you just really lean into I want to make the stupidest gorous thing possible. That's up there on messed up. It's also very funny. Um, but yeah. 01:13:21.33 Dave Um, yeah, um. 01:13:25.60 Dave Yeah, guess what other bones they don't have skulls. There's no skull bones. 01:13:30.54 Cameron They don't have don't have skull bones. Why would you have a skull. Everyone's got teeth but they're actually just ah, a special form of scale. That's really grown into position or without and a. 01:13:39.73 Dave Yeah, because the the key man unlocks the Chief's head and then his head just like splits open to it's just meaty, meaty goodness and then the key gets like yeah, nothing. It's just meat. 01:13:47.97 Cameron But there's nothing in there. No brains either math. 01:13:59.14 Dave And then he puts the little key in there and it um because ah the the tumors are all ostensibly. It's like the urges and Dna of serial killers. Um. So every time that he puts it into somebody. It makes them more violent because it's genetic Lee transmitted I guess yeah so kind of message I don't know that's weird. 01:14:22.30 Cameron Yeah, yeah, killing people is not a choice you just you just destined for it. Um, don't put that on that one feels a little iffy on that messaging. Um. 01:14:38.82 Dave Yeah, is it that that that that's like super hamisted. Do you have this stuff actually is like more on point I I don't I Really just feel like the engineer ah euphemism The um. 01:14:39.93 Cameron Oh yeah. 01:14:52.76 Cameron Metaphor No though the rest of the stuff they're saying with like society. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:14:54.43 Dave Whatever they're trying to say with him is nothing not working like what I understand the weaponized trauma like that makes sense but just like the predilection door like here's a well I guess so if you take the analogy is what I wanted to say that's the word. 01:15:10.90 Cameron Mm fast 1 01:15:11.88 Dave So if you have an analogy and you're using it to say that um ah killers or violence in society is a construct of society. 01:15:29.89 Dave Like it's an outside influence. It's not. It's not your nature. It's something else made you be that way So nature versus nurture and they're siding with the nurture side. 01:15:36.49 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:15:45.90 Dave Meaning that like it's it's instilled in you because of something else then that's then I understand the point they're tried to make whether or not you agree with it. It's like that's I think that's the way to read it. 01:15:47.34 Cameron Yes. 01:15:55.69 Cameron And yeah, but then yeah yeah I think so too but it just also comes in with this natural bit of these other people is the killing bit so it's natural that some people are killers and it's like um. 01:16:09.31 Dave Um, yeah, they've just distilled the essence of of whatever violent tendencies. They developed over time is something you could extract and put into somebody else. 01:16:12.50 Cameron Yeah. 01:16:18.53 Cameron Oh yeah, you know I'm satisfied with that explanation Auto Why would the film give us anything um, gives you goop. 01:16:26.16 Dave We'll have to go with it because I did that the film isn't giving us more than that like that's no, it gives us goop goop and under pressure. 01:16:35.45 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, so the police chief now infected ah returns back to the place he loves most the rundown apartment block that is the police station and he just kills everyone. 01:16:48.18 Dave Um, he kills them with his his his because your your trauma as weaponized. He now has like a Mutant shotgun Phallu and this pokey sword hand. 01:16:52.34 Cameron M. 01:16:59.90 Cameron Yep, he's got a big old Dickck. Yep, yeah yeah, he's got a big hyperdemic hyperdemic needle fan because earlier in the film. He was just chilling out in the station is like man I wish I could have some speed right now. 01:17:04.12 Dave It's a needle. 01:17:13.74 Dave Yeah, he's like I hate I hate night shifts I just want speed and yeah, he took a pen like a little one of those little multicolored pens and he like Drew a hyperdermic needle on his arm and then pretended that it was injecting him. It was like what. 01:17:15.66 Cameron And instead of injecting himself with Drugs. He drew the needle on his arm. Yeah yeah. M. 01:17:31.30 Cameron Um, yeah, who. 01:17:32.50 Dave This dude should not be the police chief who Wow not responsible at all. 01:17:40.33 Cameron The most stable member of the Tokyo police force everyone? Um, yeah yeah, oh yeah, not not the yeah the kul tokyo cruel police man's thesis. Um. 01:17:42.22 Dave Well, it's the prioritized Tokyo police the the cruel Tokyo police. Yeah. 01:17:55.23 Dave Um, okay, that that was it that was our that's our title. 01:17:57.35 Cameron Yeah, there we go. That's the total all right? Um, yeah, ah, yeah, he he murders them all with s lot with amidst laughter and merriment if we're going for a little pigeons in the park style. Um, and this hey. Police commissioner takes his job very seriously. He's very unhappy with this result and the only solution is to genocide the population of Tokyo there's no other way to fix this clearly. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So. 01:18:26.78 Dave Well, anybody could be an engineer. There's no way to tell. 01:18:36.40 Cameron So it's time to form the death squads and March out into the most like emotionally uncomfortable part of the film which is the police just driving down the street in a van jumping out bagging someone and then shooting them just so many people. 01:18:49.41 Dave So many people it's it's horrendous. It's It's very uncomfortable as it should be and unnecessar. It's like the most overreach you could do and the problem The so the problem is. 01:18:56.00 Cameron Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. 01:19:07.19 Dave With this and watching this now in in 2023 to date the podcast because we always forget to do that. Um, more or less current events align with overreach in authority figures. 01:19:09.86 Cameron Mm Oh yeah, yep yep. 01:19:24.57 Cameron Oh yeah, like this is this is a much more upsetting part of the film now than it was fifteen years ago 01:19:26.60 Dave Like globally. 01:19:32.86 Dave Yeah, and in in 2008 I was like okay, that's that kind of sucks and then now watching it going. Yeah, this is not great. Um, wow. 01:19:39.70 Cameron This is like this is like 2 or 3 steps beyond what does happen? Yeah, it's the kajima effect it happens. You know you make you make a game about delivering parcels in an isolated world. 01:19:43.97 Dave Yeah, you shouldn't make this. You're not supposed to make these kind of movies more relevant as they go. There should be less relevant but that's not what happened? Yeah, um. 01:19:58.41 Dave Yeah, a coji occurs. 01:19:58.68 Cameron And next thing you know Covid hits. It's It's a curse. Um, it's a Kohima curse. Um, yeah, no the ah the police force is going hog while they are just bagging and then shooting people they are just driving over random civilians. Um, they they say you know like don't resist Yada Yada Yada But there are also people who are literally completely out of their way. Absolute Bystans who are just getting killed anyway. Um and the the real the real difficult point here is 4 of them in four separate cars. Roll up and find a ruka's friend who runs the bar and we do. We do a modern day drawing and quartering which is really something I didn't ever expect to see in a film. 01:20:46.59 Dave Ah, the last time that I remember seeing this is in um, the hitter with rudger hower. Yeah, but that was like 80 01:20:56.10 Cameron So M oh that makes sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:21:05.89 Dave 7 or something I'm sure that then it again but I mean like this is more a stable of like a western or or a medieval film. 01:21:11.77 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, well yeah, like like it is absolutely something that happened a couple times as a punishment in you know medieval to like early hit earlier early ad. 01:21:29.16 Dave Yeah. 01:21:29.68 Cameron History but we certainly never did it with 4 station wagons. Ah until now. Ah man. Yeah yeah, they they literally just ah attached like the winchroppes. 01:21:36.53 Dave Um, until now. 01:21:39.70 Dave Yeah. 01:21:48.50 Cameron To her and then to their cars and they they they love this ship. These are the most happy I've ever seen 4 police officers in any film they're having a great time and this is super protracted. It takes like 5 minutes to do this scene. 01:22:01.74 Dave Yeah I was like skipping through this part I was like I I know what's happening I don't need to see this. Um yeah I forgot that that part was there and I'm like okay we can just not not this and then yeah because it it turns into like. 01:22:07.27 Cameron Yeah, yeah, exactly um, real rough. Real bad, not this. Ah oh yeah. 01:22:20.79 Dave Gratuitous Um, emotionally manipulative fodder for a roka which isn't necessary because she's already really messed up like she's not having it. 01:22:29.60 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, she she did need this extra motivation. 01:22:37.22 Dave She's mutating like there's a lot of problems going on for everybody like there's societal issues and I don't think they need to make this extra extra personal for her because the whole thing already is very personal. 01:22:39.96 Cameron So yeah. 01:22:53.68 Cameron Um, yeah, she learned that the yeah. 01:22:56.34 Dave Once once she realizes what's going on and that she's she technically has the same ah enemy as the the key man. 01:23:05.34 Cameron Yeah, yeah, exactly like the the police commissioner ordered the killing of her father and also killed key man's father. So like we we got it guys. We. We don't we maybe don't need to do this one scene real rough. 01:23:27.55 Dave Yeah, well I mean guess it's It's not just it's not just the what's the events of what's happening. It's that also Roka gets there like. 01:23:34.15 Cameron Written. 01:23:42.82 Dave If it was gonna happen anyway and she can't do anything to stop it. It's maybe better that it were or if she had gotten there too late rather than while it's happening because she can't She's not stopping them mean she can't if there did it's it's it's. 01:23:54.47 Cameron So. 01:24:01.50 Cameron And. 01:24:02.30 Dave Too late, but it's like as the action the end of the action is occurring is when she shows up so she's witnessing it. It's like though. No let's just not put that in there. This did not need to be in this movie. 01:24:07.92 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, didn't need to be in the film. 01:24:18.39 Dave As ah, as with like several other scenes where like okay, that's a little maybe a little too far. 01:24:20.70 Cameron Yeah, yeah, like that's things like the scenes shouldn't be cut for time. It should just be cut because like man that's rough. It's a bit much. 01:24:29.73 Dave The content. Yeah, it was like they did that is that attitude I don't know that it was some of the hyper violence. Okay, but then it starts to be then it just starts to feel kind of mean like extra like I don't okay. 01:24:36.88 Cameron Yeah. So. 01:24:46.52 Dave You can add like a Gonzos flatter film. But then I feel like some of it's now it's just mean spirited extra. 01:24:52.93 Cameron Yeah, and ah, something something we're all turning into cranky old men over time I'm sure there's I'm sure there's a teen out there watching this going whoa. 01:24:57.50 Dave Um, yeah I'm damn. 01:25:03.20 Cameron But yeah. 01:25:05.55 Dave I mean yeah, like this is this is definitely like ah if this is a first time watch of this kind of genre for someone that's a lot. There's a lot to just step into. 01:25:10.54 Cameron Oh yeah, yeah yeah, I've seen I've I've seen other splatter films before I sort of knew the general vibe we were getting into. But yeah, if if if this is the first hey if you've never watched even just a gory slasher film before. 01:25:19.78 Dave Yeah, yeah, I'm not going to recommend it to me for no reason. 01:25:30.20 Cameron Maybe don't make this your first step into the realm of hyper violenceol The yeah yeah. 01:25:32.10 Dave Yeah, but I I pick this one particularly because it's kind of cartoony. It's like that works in his favor because you can you can watch this and go like yeah, that's not real. 01:25:49.33 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly? Um, yeah there there are a lot of little weirdos to be fair fits really well for that category. Um, so yeah, with with this terrible scene. Ah rucker. 01:25:49.56 Dave Like okay I just remember there being a lot of little weirdos and there's a lot of little weirdos So many little weirdos in this movie. Yeah. 01:26:06.62 Cameron Ruka's engineer powers unlock because of the trauma and her left arm mutates into like a more eel. Basically it's like a little snaky alieny mouth arm. So. 01:26:20.17 Dave With like a little eyeball on it. Yeah. 01:26:24.16 Cameron Yeah, yeah, with a single like central eyeball. It looks pretty cool I'm into it. Ah. 01:26:27.95 Dave Yeah, it's the one I think out of any of the engineers hers is the one that is like so independent like it's it's self sentient. It just does its own thing. 01:26:38.38 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, no just focusing on her sword arm. 01:26:45.37 Dave Because she's really not not controlling it at all or or it's her manifestation of her like anger like like she wasn't able to um, stop her father's death. 01:26:56.35 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 01:27:00.38 Cameron But yeah. 01:27:01.84 Dave Probably prevent. Her mother's death. Ah, she's not able to save her friend like she's it's it's it's a stacking like an exponential stacking of guilt and an agency that she doesn't have she has it outside of. 01:27:12.74 Cameron Yeah. 01:27:20.27 Dave Um, her personal responsibilities. So she's she has the agency to go and stop some of the terrible things that are happening but that also puts her in ah in a position to be complicit in a lot of the terrible things that are happening. 01:27:32.16 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh no, absolutely Um, but yeah, she she starts going on her anti-police rampage good for her. Um, she gets shot in the head. 01:27:36.68 Dave Like she's not solving a problem. She's probably making more problems. 01:27:49.76 Cameron Like almost immediately ah like her right eye blown out and because she's an engineer now she grows a cool cyber eye that does nothing but sit there awkwardly on her face for the rest of the film. 01:28:02.29 Dave Well, she gets like this is the 1 time we get the red machine eye vision and it does like a little terminator like it's it's enhancing her point of view. 01:28:09.90 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, that's true. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:28:19.19 Dave Like it's a, but it's a bonus thing. Definitely even if it has little exhaust ports on it that'll weird. 01:28:26.13 Cameron Yeah feel it almost feels like they were maybe going for a gun style thing because key man's Gun Barrel Eyes have those same exhaust ports for like ventticga on but I guess they just didn't end up using that. So it's just a cool cyber eyee. 01:28:33.67 Dave Yeah. 01:28:40.98 Dave They're like guest on our budget. So there's just little like cool little tubes on the side I mean I mean really, it's just putting her in a position of like you've taken. 01:28:45.83 Cameron Yeah, yeah, ah yeah, she goes? yeah. 01:28:56.69 Dave You've taken the role of the police that is that is you're saying to like protect and serve and help society. Um, you're the 1 doing that so now like the signature helmet is like just your head you're you're you're the. 01:29:01.83 Cameron Yeah, so. 01:29:10.86 Cameron Yeah, actually I can I can vivididly see that. Yeah yeah, and also like showing yeah showing it off in like that uncomfortable mutated way where it's clearly perverse as well like it's not a good thing. 01:29:14.38 Dave You're the poster girl for the police like completely and you get a sword. 01:29:26.69 Dave Um, yeah, no, no, no. 01:29:30.20 Cameron What the police are as so you yes, let's let's be clear. We don't like the police here at Monster to um, um, but yes, like showing yes showing that it's twisted rather than the regular uniform which looks you know, relatively neat and organized and. 01:29:34.97 Dave Yeah. 01:29:49.62 Cameron Um, yeah, and so she off she goes to confront the of the police commissioner Hula Fluffler Hu um and we we get a good old sword fight. 01:30:01.60 Dave Yeah, it's definitely like Annie may. 01:30:05.50 Cameron So. 01:30:08.16 Dave So and I think before she yeah before she battles him she has to fight the sub boss which is his like little gimp pet. Yeah, which is now given probably the coolest thing is that yeah the Ka Tunnel blades. 01:30:15.60 Cameron Oh yes, the the gimp with the with the amputated limbs now having Catana Blade strapped them. It's a great design. Yeah I Really do love it actually. 01:30:27.64 Dave Like attached to the little limbs. 01:30:34.30 Cameron It's very cool. Yeah. 01:30:34.58 Dave It's pretty good. Totally totally like in an unfeasible. Yeah, like. 01:30:37.29 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, we also again, we hey we get a little. We get a little bit of a symbolism because there's a switch on our on our gimps back with one side is manic and the other side is depressive. Yeah goes goes absolutely crazy. 01:30:48.39 Dave Yeah, and it's been flipped Firmly to manic. It's like okay, it's like spid. Yeah spider walking around like the walls and stuff with its little sword feet. 01:30:56.59 Cameron klinglinklinlinkling Clink a spider skittering around. Yeah, it's it's It's a pretty cool design I'm really into it. Oh yeah, we but never work in real life. 01:31:07.89 Dave It's a good design. It's totally like that wouldn't whatever but it works for this bizarro movie. Yeah yeah, so is and it and it's like um, break dancing like. 01:31:14.17 Cameron Works in this setting for sure. Oh yeah, yeah E is real cool. 01:31:21.98 Dave Break Dance dance fighting. It's It's pretty good. 01:31:26.16 Cameron Um, yeah, we we get the good old. We get the good old sword shattering techniques on this as she sort of cuts it down size. Yeah, and no it. 01:31:30.20 Dave Yeah, on all 4 It's a bus battle I mean it's all all 4 limbs. She has to break them in individually kind of or in pairs and she doesn't kill it. She's like I've the switch got turned back to depressive and it's just quiet in the corner. Okay. 01:31:45.89 Cameron It just curls up. Yeah, yeah, yeah I mean yeah yeah, exactly yeah again, he doesn't gore anyone most missed opportunity the film. We just get a sword fight. 01:31:50.20 Dave I Got I got bigger things to worry about the yeah, the commissioner with his big helmet. 01:32:00.70 Dave No disappointing I also wanted him to shoot some kind of beam out of his like um his little megaphone like a sound wave or something but Nope luco. 01:32:05.50 Cameron Which a yeah yeah, who just turned the volume up to 11 so it actually starts hurting people that would be funny actually. Um. 01:32:17.93 Dave Um, yeah. 01:32:25.43 Cameron Yeah, we get we get a good old sword fight. And yeah, he gets cut to pieces slash him up. He he gets. He gets a metalate rising. 01:32:32.20 Dave Um, yeah, Tajo be with that. Do he gets his legs. He gets his leg amputated and he he. 01:32:49.89 Dave Steroid jued himself. We don't even know what this is he he green good himself in the neck with yeah with the good stuff that that the his little Gimp had in like reserve like the bonus. 01:32:50.20 Cameron Yeah, yes, yeah, given gave him all the good stuff. 01:33:04.27 Cameron So yeah, yeah. 01:33:06.74 Dave Potions and his rage became such that it elevated his blood pressure to let him rocket boost through the arteries in his severed legs. 01:33:20.86 Cameron Yep. Yeah, yeah. 01:33:26.00 Dave Like not not flying like he's flying around but he hovers. Yeah, he and he's cackling madly. It's pretty great. 01:33:28.81 Cameron Yeah, yeah, he has sustained sustained positioning. 01:33:40.34 Cameron It's very good to ah and yeah, but there's an attempt I'm sure this is whether or not it's successful and. 01:33:43.20 Dave He did I think he does probably try to gore her I mean he's definitely like flying head first but turn to punch. Yeah, it was not successful. He he gets me gets destroyed. Pretty handily I honestly. 01:34:00.66 Cameron Rightly? So oh yeah, Ruka Ruker is the perfect engineer hunter which means against a mostly normal person. She's yeah, she's fine. 01:34:09.73 Dave Yeah, we did we We missed the? um ah the the coroner fight scene. So it's it's it's igor armed with like a gatling fist gun that shoots like they. 01:34:16.72 Cameron Oh yeah. Yes, galing Fist Gun. He's so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:34:29.48 Dave He had 2 um lackeys that were collecting only left arms and they were separating giant piles of left and right forearms. 01:34:40.94 Cameron This feels. Yeah, oh yeah, the yeah, it feels like he he watched 1 piece like wow I want to do the gum gum gatling but I can't stretch my arm so I'll just build this giant rotary cannon. 01:34:45.79 Dave And then he kept all the left arms and put him in his little gun. 01:34:52.63 Dave Yeah, he is but I can't stretch it I'm just gonna shoot I'm just gonna shoot severed arms at somebody like like but that's that's stuck in a rigor Mortis fist. Yeah I got it I Guess no, it doesn't yeah. 01:35:04.12 Cameron Ah, that makes sense in Universe I'm sure absolutely ludicrous stuff. Very good. 01:35:12.33 Dave It doesn't It's It's what there's no precedent for this and then yeah mean he's like beating up ruca with the little fist gun. But yeah, it can't it can't hold the candle to the weird whip tongue from her mutant arm. 01:35:20.72 Cameron Yeah, yeah, hey it works. 01:35:29.97 Cameron No no mm all or over. Yeah yeah, no. 01:35:31.99 Dave That I thought was going to like reverse scorpion her like just like pull her away. It did not it like it calculated the exact angle using Gun Kata to like reverse the bullet fists. 01:35:49.42 Cameron Yeah, yeah, mm real weird. 01:35:51.60 Dave Back around a little cable like a gross meaty tendon and spun them and launched him back into the little igor dude and just like perforated him with this little own real weird because they're not going that fast and like you definitely could just. 01:36:03.12 Cameron So yep, straight out. Well you see he doesn't have any bones. No one has any bones. Um, ah. 01:36:09.93 Dave Side step that but it isn't no one has bones in this. 01:36:19.20 Cameron But yeah in the end ah ruka defeats the police commissioner quite handily and bringing down the reign of the privatized police force and ah yeah, that's more or less it. Um. 01:36:33.67 Dave So not only that so it it does more commercials at the end and ruka becomes like instead of the um, the poster girl for the place. She's like the new commission. There's no police. It's just her. She's in charge of. 01:36:37.32 Cameron M. 01:36:47.88 Cameron Yeah, she is the law. But. 01:36:51.10 Dave She is the law and if you want to be the law you have to have like multiple guns in this world. So she keeps the little gimp lady and installs. 01:36:59.10 Cameron Yep Yep! okay. 01:37:07.53 Dave Automatic rifles on her stumps instead of swords. So it's like um, that ah what is it. It's like ah death proof and the other Robert Rodriguez um planet terror where. 01:37:08.42 Cameron Yeah, why not? why? not Swords clearly didn't work out. 01:37:19.86 Cameron Yeah machine limbs. Yeah yep. 01:37:25.28 Dave The the main girl has like a machine gun leg. Well forget that 4 4 machine gun limbs yeah, and this movie came out right before machine girl which is similar. Yeah, and then we find out that the um and the key man. 01:37:38.65 Cameron Yeah. 01:37:44.80 Dave We thought was eviscerated was put back together by like one of the um, the well it was the girl that was working in the um brothel. 01:37:48.16 Cameron He us one of his associates. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah, he survived So the engineers are still going to continue. 01:37:57.12 Dave Yeah, yeah, he was sewed back together. Yep and they'll have to battle machine gun girl and sword lady. 01:38:09.30 Cameron Yeah I'm I'm sure there's an excellent sequel coming out any day now. 01:38:15.71 Dave Yep, any day. 01:38:17.46 Cameron Ah, ah so yeah, that that's a Tokyo gore police or the cruel police of Tokyo if we want to translate more fairly and it's definitely you have very cruel. Definitely yeah, lots of police almost all the characters were police. 01:38:24.58 Dave Yeah, pretty cruel Definitely police. 01:38:33.43 Dave Yeah. 01:38:37.12 Cameron Oh man, it is an interesting film. Um, there's a lot going on. Yeah. 01:38:41.65 Dave It had It was a lot going on I mean for ah for a movie that was a little over a hour and a half ah mostly blood but had it had a through line for sure. It had something to say. And it was probably the most heavy handed way you could see it like no bones about it and no bones in it. 01:38:57.94 Cameron Oh absolutely. This was not a subtle film. 01:39:08.30 Cameron Ah, oh man. Yeah, yeah, it's definitely interesting if you're interested in like the practical effects side of thing way worth a watch. They do some pretty crazy stuff while still keeping it obviously effects which. 01:39:22.56 Dave Yeah. 01:39:25.60 Cameron I think is like underappreciated as an art form. Everyone wants to go for the really the really realistic practical effects but like no sometimes you want to do just something weird. It's almost a little thingy. Yeah. 01:39:32.91 Dave Well this director and his assistants or so associates like this is their their style so there's like 4 other 4 or 5 other movies that are specifically just like this and. 01:39:42.24 Cameron M. 01:39:47.93 Cameron Yeah I. 01:39:51.14 Dave They just keep getting weirder because why not like if you're gonna do this just every time just make it a little bit weirder. Oh they gave us a little bit. It did well. So now I gave us a bigger budget for more weird stuff. 01:39:59.38 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 01:40:08.56 Dave But yeah, you don't see too much like this anymore I can't think of too many and not really a lot outside of like Japan. 01:40:22.36 Cameron Yeah. 01:40:26.29 Dave Like it's not specific to it. But um, just based on their film industry and Trends like they've always been like a decade off. 01:40:38.88 Cameron Yeah. 01:40:41.82 Dave And so stuff that was like cool elsewhere made its way to Japan kind of changed a little bit and then you know got a new spin and then put back out and we're like okay that's okay, where that come from and then you go. Okay, this. 01:40:45.33 Cameron Button came back? yeah. 01:40:57.87 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:40:58.67 Dave Influenced by you know these these few things and then it just makes a big cycle because then it's like this influenced other directors and they're like oh yeah I want to do a weird thing like that and then we get other strange movies probably like that terrible. 01:41:11.82 Cameron Oh yeah, look claude was real bad at least at least this was you know a film with a budget. 01:41:17.76 Dave Ah, Claude is bad. It was bad. 01:41:27.77 Dave As a budget. It's intelligible. You understand what's going on. You're not getting whiplash from like 10 different plot threads and like no, it's just a through line to that's that was nice. Yeah. 01:41:31.44 Cameron Yeah. 01:41:38.93 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was good. Yeah, um, yeah, check it out if you want don't expect anything highbrow. Ah otherwise yeah. 01:41:50.38 Dave Now it's low. It's low, low low low. 01:41:55.40 Cameron Yeah, otherwise you know and just watch something else. Ah I mean like I'm I'm I'm not good I'm not going to say don't watch it. It's not. It's not low low down the list. But I'm saying you know if there's anything else you want to watch maybe watch that first. 01:42:00.16 Dave Can't put the recommendations. There's. 01:42:12.32 Cameron Get to this eventually. 01:42:14.22 Dave Yeah, maybe don't watch this with like dinner I'm thinking Well there you go all right? Well we'll wrap this up. We'll take it on home. There's there's no admin anymore. 01:42:17.63 Cameron I Watched it with breakfast which was definitely not a great choice. 01:42:28.54 Cameron So. Yeah, so. 01:42:34.26 Dave Um, this was fun. It's interesting. Weird movie I'm I'm I'm glad to have recommended it and it was fun to watch it again. Definitely feels like a 2008 movie which is now. 01:42:40.49 Cameron Yeah, yes. 01:42:50.33 Dave Her like horrifically relevant and I I didn't want that but I forgot ah I was like oh okay, actually this is harder to watch than it was back then for different reasons. Yeah, but yeah, we'll um, we'll. 01:42:52.54 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:43:03.43 Cameron Absolutely all right? Well, that's that's that with something probably a load to pick. Yeah um, cause yeah I've mean I'll say it now hey guys. 01:43:08.55 Dave We'll be back next week with I think a Leonard pick. Ah. 01:43:17.21 Cameron Um, you remember last year when I got really busy I couldn't be on the podcast for like a month because I got married that was a year ago. So next week's my wedding anniversaries I'm taking that off. Um, yeah, um, wild how time passes like that. 01:43:25.14 Dave As as as need be. I was just thinking about that we're because we're personally planning like anniversary stuff that's already like wait wait that's coming up sooner than I thought. Okay, oh yeah. 01:43:38.30 Cameron That's way too soon. Yeah, the act keeps rolling. Yeah well thank you all for listening I Hope you enjoyed this gauttastic. 01:43:48.64 Dave Time it do fly. 01:43:56.50 Cameron Ah, cruel police journey with us and yeah, we'll see you next week with something time for Pinocchio I'm so looking forward to that. 01:43:59.85 Dave Oh yeah, and then after that it's it's steampunk Pinocchio I'm super excited I can't even wait all right bye bye folks. 01:44:15.58 Cameron Bye everybody.
