01:32.71 Dave My name is Dave and I'll be your host for this episode tonight I am joined by Cameron Cameron how's it going. 01:39.32 Cameron Hi everyone I'm doing pretty well. It's Erin's birthday tomorrow. So I've been running around this week but apart from being run off my feet I'm doing quite well how about you. 01:52.20 Dave Um, yeah I'm tired. It's ah it's been a long week. A lot of stuff going on here and there but super birthday weekend. It's Matt's birthday today. Ah so that's the birthday weekend. Um, of course that meaning that being the case he is not here and then. 01:56.92 Cameron And yep, yep, it is apparently yes, Yes, yeah, he's doing his thing. 02:09.16 Dave Leonard's off somewhere um, doing nice thing so it'll just be the 2 of us for tonight and we are taking a look at the 1981 property the boogins. 02:19.45 Cameron Yep, yeah. 02:26.95 Cameron Mm. 02:27.10 Dave Ah, film and the so the like attached novelization to it. Yeah, so the the slight background for like how this even came up at all because this is like a niche property. 02:30.11 Cameron Yeah. 02:41.42 Cameron Yeah. 02:46.32 Dave And is that Jalla who has been on the show and is the host of jaless place who is the other part of our network fireart media. Ah, she growing up in I want to say junior high. 02:51.67 Cameron And. 03:05.41 Cameron A. 03:06.18 Dave Maybe high school sometime around there. Um, ah the the mother of her friend um like adores horror films and by association her her friend just loves horror films. 03:17.38 Cameron Okay, yeah. 03:22.97 Dave Not not always jallless cup of tea but she'll watch one every now and then and um, she was like talked up about this the boogins itself. Um because I want to say when this yeah when this came out. 03:27.31 Cameron Yeah. 03:34.61 Cameron So. 03:42.75 Dave Um, her friend's mother was pregnant with her friend and I was watching this and was just utterly terrified of the Boogans and was like trying to jump onto the like onto the bed from the door to like. 03:43.99 Cameron And. 03:57.85 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 04:00.50 Dave Avoid being grabbed by the boogins and so that tale was like told to Jaa and had it built up in her head and then they had to sit down. You know the the the vhs and watch the the movie and she was just not like super impressed. 04:09.53 Cameron And. 04:17.72 Cameron Yeah. 04:19.45 Dave But in relaying the story to me I was like oh I need to know what this bookins is and so I I tracked down the movie. Um, which is available streaming on Amazon and also um has a Blu-ray coming out. Um, but. 04:23.50 Cameron Yeah. 8. 04:34.35 Cameron Yep yep, yes. 04:36.64 Dave Ah, just as important there was a tie-in novelization that came out in like 1981 alongside the movie and that was harder to get I ended up like having the ebay a used copy just because it's not. It's not in um, digital is like print paperback. It's. 04:44.89 Cameron M. 04:52.20 Cameron Yeah. 04:56.28 Dave Super like musty dog-eared copy. It's kind of best. Yeah, someone loved this book because they read and read the crap out of it and so um I read the book and. 04:59.53 Cameron Ah, those are the the yeah those are the best books though, that's that's what I grew up on with books. Yeah. 05:15.20 Dave Got the full boogins effect um through that after having watched like the trailer and the trailer was like the trailers sold me on it I was like Heym I'm here for this. This is weird and um then I kind of just broadcast The here's the trailer guys. Let's take a look at this. 05:15.35 Cameron Yeah, yep. Yeah, so. 05:25.84 Cameron E. 05:33.30 Cameron Um, let's take a look at this thing. 05:34.18 Dave Thing What's going on here and so here we are. We've we've consumed the mood the book and the the movie and like the Bogans are left wanting more of whatever this is. 05:38.31 Cameron Yes, indeed. Yes. 05:49.67 Cameron And yeah, yeah, that sounds about right? I'd be I will get into the contents of the book and film I would be interested in seeing an expansion on the boogins Maybe only because it feels so pair boins in the film. Ah. 06:06.76 Cameron But I feel like there's there could there's something there that could be interesting Beyond What is already shown. Um. 06:08.49 Dave Yeah I mean I I don't I don't care any anymore about what in like any any kind of experience. So the book handles some of it but in a way that's um, it's not. It's it's not. 06:20.62 Cameron Okay. 06:26.99 Dave Expositing upon the Bogans they just exist and that's it's better that way like I don't need to know that they sprung from some crack in the earth and they ah. 06:27.36 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 06:37.96 Cameron Yeah. 06:44.41 Cameron Yeah, yeah, fair enough? yeah. 06:44.78 Dave Government experiment during the cold War I mean like that's the backdrop I but probably spun on it from being an engine engineer one Um, it doesn't really get any of that and I think it's stronger because it didn't lean on like weird tropes. 07:02.70 Cameron Um, not fair enough I can see it. Yeah. 07:03.71 Dave Yeah, so um, bits of the trivia for the movie. Ah when they they filmed this in um, a mine mining town in Utah ah, and. 07:13.94 Cameron So. 07:18.93 Dave They built the interior cave scenes inside of a supermarket but the when the film is being of course when they're making the film. They're not filming everything in order and they were filming like a climactic scene and the set burn down like the supermarket. 07:21.84 Cameron Yes, yeah. 07:28.21 Cameron No. Oh Wow yeah. 07:35.72 Dave Burn down so they had to like go to an actual caved to finish like the interior cave scenes. So that's that's kind of fun. 07:41.93 Cameron Ah, that's really weird that sort of explains why occasionally the caves look better. Yeah yeah, big piles of foam covered in paint. Yeah oh it's definitely like. 07:47.10 Dave Yeah, they look like well they're caves at some points and sometimes they're they're styrofoam or whatever they make foam I think but they yeah that they make yeah and their budget was such that probably because of the the fire. 07:57.76 Cameron Insulation foam or something. 08:02.46 Cameron I. 08:06.47 Dave Um, they had enough like of a budget to create exactly 1 boogin. There's 1 creature for that resists as the standin for any more boogins in the the movie and they just get us 1 There's 1 08:11.90 Cameron Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah, the the film says there's lots but there is definitely one the book. Yes. 08:24.21 Dave Book the Bug um and a lot of the rest of it is ah allah like evil dead camera work like you're getting Pev footage of bougin ah through a camera. 08:33.34 Cameron And oh yeah, yeah, it honestly it honestly almost feels like jaws where they refuse to show you the shark for 9% of the film. But in this case, they were. 08:47.47 Dave Yeah, or alien. 08:50.90 Cameron Yeah, they they or alien. Yeah they they refuse to show you the boogin for so long like it's it's just under an hour and a half I think the film and I was watching it and I I paused to go get a drink of water I'm like I'm an hour 10 minutes into this film and there are. 08:57.93 Dave Yeah. 09:07.75 Cameron About to show the monster properly for the first time. Yeah, it's all it's all implied boaining. Yeah yeah, yeah, exactly yeah, got that little. 09:08.99 Dave Yeah,, there's no,, there's been no no boogin in this movie I mean it's there and it's effective. But it's it's a camera that they may have tied to that log. You know the doggie cam. 09:27.23 Cameron Um, ah ah yeah, yeah so um yeah the the generic plot of the boins is a hundred years ago in the in the old silver mine. Something went very wrong, very terribly wrong and they shut down all the mines. And now it's 1981 and what's hotter than a prospective silver mine and Utah Utah Denver I don't know american places in Colorado. Okay, good I I literally I don't know yeah I confusing the booker. Yeah I'm just saying i. 09:54.70 Dave It's in Colorado um, the movie itself. Yeah, yeah, it's okay, they it's confusing in the book too. Um, yeah, it's it's Colorado it was filmed in Utah they're adjacent. 10:06.22 Cameron I okay, good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, like the the last time I studied where us states were I think I was in like year ten. So I know Texas is near the bottom. 10:17.89 Dave Um, yeah, your' your that's yes, that's okay because if you ask anyone about like australian for like that's Australia. It's a yeah. 10:26.65 Cameron Oh yeah, I mean it also helps you've got like a lot less states to do Oh yeah, similar size just a lot less lot less ah flat. 10:35.66 Dave But sizewise it's commirable. 10:43.90 Cameron Names and numbers to deal with. But yeah, okay, so they're in Colorado up in the mountains they're gonna reopen the silver mine. So we have 4 guys primarily dealing with this There's the two experienced miners. Ah Brian and Dan. And then 2 new guys mark and Roger Mark's been brought in because he's an electrical engineer and they want someone to string the lights and Roger's here because work is work. You know? yeah. 11:11.94 Dave Yeah, he got out of college and he's like I just wanted a job. But if I bills. 11:18.86 Cameron Yeah I don't want to wear a suit and tie I Just want to go get a job. You know it's the eighty s That's fair enough of an attitude to have someone's got to do it. Ah yeah, yeah, so that yeah they they reopen this old Silver mine. They do a little bit of blast and you know Cavens got to got to re re. 11:23.88 Dave No. 11:37.88 Cameron Unstabilize all that rock and it's all totally fine. Um Roger and Mark along with 2 of Roger's friends his girlfriend and 1 one of her friends I should say are going to rent a house up here and the lady who owns it. Goes to open it up crashes her car because she refuses to hit a deer which also fair and understandable and so she has to stay the night hears some mysterious sounds down in the basement and is dragged down the stairs evil Deadty Whoo Chaka the booggans they're already here. Ah, and um, really the rest of the movie progresses pretty steadily from this point on like um'm I personally refuse to do a blow by blow this simply because nothing happens until an hour and 10 minutes in ah, that's massively significant. You know things start happening spooks of camera movements like we mentioned earlier a lot of the camera work is low to the floor point of v shots of ah point of v point of view that would help. Um, it's goodness of of the boogin itself. Grambbolin around an absurdly large amount of the movie is dedicated to the hatred of this 1 dog tiger. This little is like a little pomeranian they hate that dog so much. Um, yeah. 13:04.57 Dave They hate that dog. Yeah, and it's ah it's a um, ah Bichon Frice but but it has a weird haircut. So I think everyone thought it was a poodle. 13:14.42 Cameron Ah, that's what a beach on freeze looks like like a little. Yeah, he's sort of poodle styleled. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right. 13:21.78 Dave But it's it's because it's it's given a weird poodle haircut. But it's yeah it to be shown just doesn't have its round head that it should have. 13:31.74 Cameron That makes more sense because yeah I was looking at like it really looks like my parents' dog but I know it's definitely not is like ah the haircut fair enough. Yeah yeah, the movie is dedicated to the hatred of this dog. Um, no one likes the dog. 13:38.25 Dave Yeah. 13:47.42 Dave The dog is like um, not a garfield. It's It's a smug little dog too is the thing is it. It just like it. 13:54.51 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, it's it is it. It looks like it deserves it. 14:03.28 Dave You're introduced to the dog because it it runs off um in the snow and you think it does and so the two girls that are going to the um retreat like cabin thing. Ah they go tramping through the like the snow. 14:06.63 Cameron Yeah. 14:14.39 Cameron Yeah. 14:22.31 Dave In in not appropriate clothes and they're going to look for the dog and then they get back to the car because they're like well we don't know where it went's we're like we're going to get lost and so they go back to their little Vw bug and the dog is like on the roof like sitting there and like staring at them. 14:22.92 Cameron Um, yeah. 14:27.70 Cameron So yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah dog is dog is a little asshole. Um, and just just continually throughout the film like you know, ah Roger and. 14:40.90 Dave He's like what you to what take you guys so long I've been here the whole time. Ah. 14:51.95 Cameron Jessica his girlfriend they haven't seen each other for eleven days man imagine 11 days yeah they're in their early 20 s um, yeah, they're very yeah, this particular group they're all fresh out of college style basically still horny teenagers. 14:56.23 Dave Um, they're counting hours is for a weird. Yeah, everyone's Ra Young they're least this this group. 15:11.60 Cameron Um, but just slightly older which I guess would be unique for a horror film in the 80 s they're not actual teenagers. Ah that is oh yeah, though, they're in their thirty s yeah yeah. 15:17.81 Dave Um, I mean the actors are definitely like not not 20 years old yeah they're the thirty thirty twenty going on 32 um but yeah, they're like right out of college or finishing him college or whatever. 15:32.49 Cameron Supposed to be. Yeah, yeah, um, but yeah, the the dog is a terror he constantly gets in between people and in their way he lives to destroy shoes and underwear and also to just cause havoc and chaos. And a good half of the film's tension is derived from I think the dog's going to get it and the dog does not get it until like the last fifteen minutes of the film. 16:00.47 Dave Um, but it does provide a bunch of jump scares because you're thinking it's the boin but its that little dog. Yeah. 16:00.53 Cameron It does it does? Yeah well because they're the same size. The Boan has the exact height of this little beach on freeze dog. Um, yeah, a lot of that is yeah like the dog gets chased all very scary and then we're like. We'd never see the dog again and then we get a jump scar and the dog was actually fine. It was just hiding in a cupboard or whatever. It's terrible dog snickering. Yeah yeah. 16:28.28 Dave Um, snickering. It's it's like Muttley or whatever, whatever the yeah. 16:33.62 Cameron Everyone hates it Mark thinks he good his good. Ah, good way of a funny pickup line. We're talking to Trish is a you know what I gave the dog for his birthday this year I'm an electrical engineer I built a little electric chair for a dog really works. Everyone. Everyone hates the dog like he runs out into the snow when the police come by once he's like oh I'll get the dog and everyone simultaneously. No. No, we we let a play outside. Yeah, what? what it was. We're teaching him to play in the road. 16:58.91 Dave No, let him out. We're we're training him to be outside or something. Yeah, it's it's real weird like what it's going on. It's like a reverse Scooby-doo. 17:09.87 Cameron Really why? Why do you have this dog you hate this dog so much. Yeah, ah, ah the dog does eventually bite it in the end. Um which you know ah, honestly at that point I assumed the dog was going to be the the final girl. This movie just the the film ends with the dog running out of an abandoned mine tunnel fluffing itself off but it was not the case. The dog did eventually eat it. Ah basically it turns out running a silver mine is pretty difficult. Hey 8 sorry my catches bit me, you're not meant to get the attitude of the dog I'm talking about baby there. We go um, running a silver of mine is difficult. They they have these terrible maps so roger in the middle of the night needs to drive back to Denver to get updated maps. 17:44.96 Dave No. 18:03.26 Cameron And as he's going to do so he is bougined underneath the pickup truck and all we see of the bougan for most of the film is this tentacle which you know fun fun monster design always love a good tentacle. It's both sharp. And rubbery because it can slash and grab and it's very brown and that's that's most of what we see of the boogin for most of the film. Ah no one notices Roger is gone because they assumed he drove at three M out to Denver and will not be back until tomorrow. 18:39.69 Cameron No one notices that the car is still there until like the next afternoon. Um, and as this sort of all unfolds eventually Roger's body is found floating in a pond back in the mine ah things go crazy. Ah. And old the suspicious old man the the classic horotroppe who has not been warning anyone but it has just been lurking around. He just lurks. That's all he does the closest thing to a warning is he rebordered up the mine painted death over it in big red paint and put three crosses at the front. Um. 18:59.13 Dave But no, he's just creeping on everybody. 19:15.23 Cameron But not not really a direct warning. No ah reveals that you know his father was put in an asylum. He was the only survivor of the initial cave in back in 121 and ever since he's been warning people away from the mines because of the monsters within. And just as we're about to get more Explanation. He Gasps rings up a awareness. The all goes Bogans and is then pulled into the water and dies. Ah that that's that's all we know That's why it's called the boogins. 19:49.33 Cameron It's the it's the name this one old guy has for them I guess that's this oh god ah when when Leonard and I talked about willow the film. We stated that it was allergic to exposition. Ah, this feels similarly like that like we we get a little bit of exposition in. The events of the past you know we get newspaper clippings of mine collapses min is going missing the mine is closed. Yeah, it really is is a lot of newspaper clippings. Um, but apart from that we get nothing the mine exists. 20:13.96 Dave Um, it's like a 5 minute long intro with a lot of newspapers. 20:27.48 Cameron It has tunnels to every house for some reason I guess the miners didn't want to walk outside to go to work and the booins exist. We don't know if they were just in the mine. We don't know if they were introduced. We don't know if they're natural or supernatural or anything they just are the boogans. Um, ah good. Um, you know Jessica is slasher style killed while she's taking a shower by a boogin in the house this is where also where the dog gets got finally um. 21:02.31 Cameron And the the film men's with Mark and Trish the the other girl running out of the mines exploding it behind them with us with a loose bag of dynamite and that's the end of the film. The problem solved forever. There are definitely not 300 other exits to the mine shafts. In this town it just it just sort of ends. It's it feels weird that could be due partly to the we ran out of set when the whole set burned down ah kind of it's kind of deal but it is a very strange film. Overall. I did enjoy it It wasn't fantastic. It's it's just paced really weirdly, you don't see a boogin until like an hour and 10 minutes into an hour and 30 minute film and then it just all sort of happens at once and then it just completely stops ends That's it. That's that's done you know. 22:02.19 Dave Um, yeah, the the pacing on the books a little different Actually it's quite a bit different. So the the book itself opens up with like a prologue of the the. 22:06.15 Cameron Well yeah, tell me the differences please. 22:20.90 Dave Booin Pov of them in the cavern just chilling and eating animals that stumble in and they're hungry and they're they're also um, like jellyfish. 22:20.22 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 22:27.13 Cameron Yeah, okay. 22:35.48 Cameron And okay, yeah, okay yep that that is very different to the film. Okay. 22:38.57 Dave Like just they're but their slimes like a blob with little eyes like little glowing eyes floating in it and then they can like they can extend like pseudopod like tentacles which are yeah and but. 22:52.13 Cameron See these already sound much more interesting. 22:56.84 Dave Budget wise I don't even know how they would have even tried I don't think they did they were like we can't make that and they. 22:59.26 Cameron Yeah, yeah I mean I can just I can describe the film boogin to you if you would like it is a legless Ninja turtle with tentacles. 23:13.18 Dave Yeah, so it's ah it's a turtle shell like ah yeah, they just they just made a Jellyfish but give it a turtle shell. Yeah. 23:15.58 Cameron It's It's not great. Yeah. 23:22.53 Cameron So yeah, that it's It's not like protoplasmic slime stuff because that would be expensive So it's brown and rubbery. Yeah I'm sure. 23:32.26 Dave Yeah, what they wanted to do was like what they had in like the maybe like the blob and the thing like that kind of just jelly that could shoot out ropes of loop. Um. 23:40.27 Cameron Yeah, yeah I mean that the film booin doesn't look bad. It's just weird and kind of meshmash whereas. Yeah, the the slime pseudopods feels a little more put together. 23:58.53 Dave Yeah, and the thing is they're um, individually I So there's different sizes. There's like little ones that are like you can fit a couple of them in your hand and then there's like big ones that are. 23:59.58 Cameron As it were. 24:07.21 Cameron Ok button. 24:17.52 Cameron Yeah, okay so. 24:17.68 Dave The size of a person like big and but the problem is they ah they're the mucus that they use to like locomote and keep themselves moist is acidic and their blood I think is acidic. They're just they're good. They're whatever they're their plasm that they're made of is is is acidic to people or living things. Um and their their pseudopod like appendages are like. 24:37.61 Cameron Um, oh okay, yeah, okay they burn? yeah. 24:53.69 Dave Tensile strength of steel. So even if a little 1 gets you. You can't there's nothing you can do it will give will kill you and in the book. There's not. There's hardly ever just one. There's like a bunch of them. 24:55.60 Cameron Button. No yeah. 25:07.76 Cameron Right? That feels much more threatening. 25:12.62 Dave It's way more threatening. You can't like so the movie does a thing where in the beginning. It's the the the homeowner that's leasing her place or or selling her place kind of going to open it up or maybe she's the realtor. 25:20.55 Cameron Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. 25:30.42 Dave Um, she gets like dragged down the stitch but from a far away like it grabs her from like in the kitchen but you don't see it get her. You just see like her being but but she gets like hauled down and and it's actually pretty horrifying. She's screaming and trying to like. 25:37.25 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she falls and gets yeah pulled down real quick. Yeah, oh yeah, it was a good start or that. 25:50.11 Dave I Kept thinking she was I thought they were going to do the thing where she grabs though the wall and her nails come off. They think they didn't do that but they could have yeah because it was I was also going like did she go down this day like how did they. 25:56.57 Cameron That would have been very gross probably slightly outside their budget I Guess yo. Yeah yeah, yeah. 26:05.26 Dave Want to see that set because I mean they they yanked her down the stairs or at least into a doorway which was supposed to be like the basement stairs they looked it looked rough like that's like oh you know? Yeah, don't We don't want that happening to you. 26:15.67 Cameron Yeah, so. No no. 26:21.44 Dave And then you see the book in and go like well how did it do that. How did it go up the stairs like up upstairs. Yeah, but yeah, so that that instance of it is. 26:23.36 Cameron I Guess it's really strong It slides Clearly, he's got a little hover thing. Yeah I don't know Yeah I. So yeah, okay. 26:38.30 Dave Kind of like what they do in the book but way worse. Um, because it's acidic for 1 thing every time it grabs you. It's like burning you like melting your skin. Um and they're just really strong and they're just um, they. 26:46.94 Cameron Ah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. 26:55.85 Dave Pulled Jessica They pulled The realtor is a dude in the book and they pulled him through like a grate in the floor. 26:59.48 Cameron So. 27:05.36 Cameron Oh okay, yeah oh Wow was. 27:13.70 Dave And they pulled someone else through a grate in the wall and then I think it was Jessica they they grabbed her and a bunch of them. Um, pulled her into a closet but then like. 27:17.20 Cameron So. 27:29.26 Dave Folded her up into pieces because she wouldn't fit so just kept pulling until she just became like wedged in there and then they just they just digest you Yeah, it's It's pretty graphic. Um and they they when they dissolve things always left as bones. 27:32.00 Cameron Wow, That's way more horrifying. Yeah. 27:45.80 Cameron Wow. 27:47.98 Dave Like they'll they'll eat you down to your bones. Um, and there's never just like again. They're not one. It's like they spill out of like the air the the air ducts and stuff and then cabinets and everything they're just everywhere like so just imagine someone just pouring like a bunch of those like. 27:57.70 Cameron Yeah. 28:08.30 Dave Little water orb things. So there's little orbs you can get and you put them in a water obi or something and they they expand. It's like that but Jellyfish or just Jellyfish everywhere. Um, yeah, so it it's it doesn't shy away from like that. 28:08.42 Cameron Yeah, yeah, Okay, yeah, yeah, so. 28:27.00 Dave Side of it like they're like it's a book. We don't have a budget. We can do whatever. Yeah, and yeah in in that way like they they give much more character to them and they don't have like. 28:29.40 Cameron They say whatever you want? Yeah, okay. 28:41.60 Cameron Um. 28:44.75 Dave Just saying that they're hungry. There's no other they're they're a force of nature. Um. 28:45.14 Cameron Yeah I mean at least that eating them in the book in the film I think that' literally just killing people. 28:59.94 Dave Yeah, let me see the other difference is the dog. Um, there's a dog and dies it think this. It's like the second one to die dies immediately unfortunately and it's not an asshole. 29:02.12 Cameron Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a nice dog. Always the way Asshole dogs live the longest true true to real life. 29:11.99 Dave Yeah, yeah, so the setup was a little different. Um, it opens with ah the it's the same thing where the the the dude going to open the house like crashes his car and has to walk but like it's it's. 29:26.66 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 29:30.87 Dave Spends time to sit there and talk about like him having to walk through this and the like the bad weather and it's miles from his car to the house. It's just like it's putting everyone through like a lot of trouble and he gets there and it's it's. 29:34.95 Cameron So. 29:41.31 Cameron Yeah. 29:46.85 Dave Giving you time to like get to know his character and then you just get sucked into great. You're just like okay that was not great that was or that was not good. Um, and then in the book. Mark is his best friend that that. 29:52.13 Cameron Yeah of my. 30:02.24 Cameron Yeah, right? yeah. 30:03.84 Dave The dude's missing and so he comes to the town to go look for him and then runs into the three. It's three kids I mean they're the same same characters the Roger and Jessica and Trish and and. 30:11.43 Cameron So yeah Jesse and Trish here. 30:23.60 Dave But in this one they're not, they're just on a vacation like they doesn't no one works for the mine or anything So what we get like our our big point of view characters like because the the the kids aren't They're just there and it's kind of weird in the book. 30:25.56 Cameron Yeah. 30:39.37 Cameron Button. 30:42.97 Dave Like they just oh we they had to have kids in a cabin like that's this as the sacrifice wherever it's like they're not no one cares about these characters. Um, our main point of view characters are are adults. 30:45.71 Cameron Yeah, yeah, it's classic. Yeah yeah. 30:59.10 Cameron Okay, yeah. 31:01.00 Dave Maybe they're in their thirty s like late late 30 s um and that is um, Mark is not Mark. It's ah Brian Lockett and Chris Hurley and Brian. 31:14.80 Cameron M. 31:18.36 Dave And Chris are in the employ of um Harold Loomis and Harold Loomis is a ah ah Texas um multimillionaire. That's and he he's just buying up like mines all over the country to like look for gold. 31:21.40 Cameron Okay, so. 31:29.13 Cameron Yeah, Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 31:37.21 Dave And so he just buys handfuls of mines and goes there's got to be gold one of these. Um yeah, and his latest acquisition is the hatter mine in Summit Colorado and it's a silver mine. Um, and they could have gold. 31:39.12 Cameron I mean I Guess yeah. Yeah, right? but could have gold though. 31:53.99 Dave And the silver wasn't exhausted because the mine was closed due to some accidents in 1954 31:57.80 Cameron Um, yes, yeah, and this is America who eat to let industrial safety regulations stop the extraction of minerals. 32:06.78 Dave Yeah, well and it's not only that. But it's ah it was specifically a lead mine and they just found um, ah the the hatcher. Whatever the dude is that's had Mr Hatcher um actually he he found a vein of silver and so like. 32:12.48 Cameron Ah, yeah. 32:21.99 Cameron Okay, yeah, okay. 32:24.96 Dave Had a claim on a certain section of the mountain that was that wasn't the lead mine. So um, that's the part that or the the part of the mine that Loomis bought and has sent brianzik um, ah. 32:27.45 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 32:37.33 Cameron Yeah. 32:43.54 Dave Ah, mining consultant he he he goes in his job is to go in and like check um do some initial Surveys and check like if it's worth the investments that's being made and to make sure that it can be mined like like it like safety inspections. 32:58.84 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 33:03.15 Dave Something because the mines close say that to figure out like if if they can if if they're able to reopen it is the thing. Yeah and Chris is the the company like representative. So she's just there to make sure that um. 33:06.93 Cameron Yeah, okay so. 33:19.63 Dave Brian's doing his due diligence and not just like saying oh yeah, the mine can't be open but I'm going to go open it. Whatever you know she's checking the corporate interest. Um, they're the main characters more or less like it's through their point of view. 33:23.52 Cameron Ah, yeah, yeah, totally safe? Yeah yeah, yeah. 33:34.33 Cameron I. 33:39.16 Dave And they end up. Um the the town itself is run by um, a Mr Blanchard Otis Blanchard and he is a um like a robber baron. He. 33:47.30 Cameron E. 33:58.80 Dave He owns he he owns the lead mine side of the mine the mountain or his family does and he's made a lot of money off of the lead side. Ah and he doesn't want like. 34:02.67 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 34:17.65 Dave People poking around in the mine. Do do to some reason and so he has like the sheriff in his pocket and it's just it's a big like he's not like he's cooperating with ah the Loomis company. Um. 34:23.28 Cameron Yep yep. 34:35.31 Cameron Button. Yeah, okay. 34:37.48 Dave Like on the surface level but at the same time trying to like get them out of the town like he's like yo'll, let's you do your thing but like he really doesn't want them there and then we have Mark and. 34:47.57 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 34:57.44 Dave Mark is Ken's buddy and Ken is a dude that owned that little house so in the book the the cabin that there or the little like cabin the the home that their the kids are renting or buying whatever um that is the old. Um foreman's. 34:59.59 Cameron In. 35:06.53 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 35:16.55 Dave House. It's like it's it's on the mountain with the mine and um, an access shaft goes from the ah the basement of the house into the mine but there's only the one. 35:28.72 Cameron Okay, so. 35:33.53 Dave Like that's though, that's the like rear access shaft or something or emergency shaft and then there's like the main mine entrance but the main night mine entrance was like shut down. It's like um, caved in. So. 35:38.60 Cameron Yeah. 35:45.33 Cameron Yeah, okay so. 35:52.53 Dave With the mine entrance being caved in the only other exit is that little grate in like the basement and so the bugins are going through there and going out into like the the local wilderness and like geating and grabbing stuff and pulling it back into the mine. 35:59.83 Cameron Um. 36:09.87 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 36:11.53 Dave Is what's happening. Um, until ah Loomis sends Brian and Chris and they go into the mine even though they're told to not do that by the sheriff or or they need to have like permits and stuff and they're like oh we'll just we'll just fax it over just contact. Um, Denver and Denver the Denver office will have our permits like we just don't have them in my pot I don't have them in my briefcase. They're just their official permits like just contact the company or whatever and so ah because they don't have the. 36:34.28 Cameron Yeah. 36:40.90 Cameron Yeah. 36:50.40 Dave Don't have like authorization like officially I guess by the city wherever I don't know they they have the permits They don't have them on hand so they just hire this kid like he's like a college kid. Um and they hire him to help them like. 36:54.94 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 37:09.60 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 37:09.92 Dave Sneak into the mine because they would they'd need to run their assessments and they don't want to wait like a couple days for them to get back The sheriff to get back to them because they're It's all legal Anyway, so it doesn't really matter so they go digging around in there and they find the um. 37:14.98 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 37:29.10 Dave The caved in section and they I think they dyamiteed open I don't remember honestly because now I watched a movie afterwards on like wall they dmited it. Um, maybe they dmited it I know they were digging. Ah they broke through that section. 37:35.50 Cameron So yeah, yes, yeah, yeah. 37:48.33 Dave And um, they found like 2 ah skeletons in there and it turns out that those 2 skeletons are from missing um miners that the city said. 37:53.23 Cameron M. 37:59.54 Cameron So okay, yeah, so. 38:05.39 Dave Um, got lost in the superstition superstition mountains in Arizona like like they did the g they visited our our mine and they spunked a little bit and then they drove down to go s spunkin to go look for the lost dutchman mine in supersciion mountains in Arizona. 38:07.89 Cameron Martin. 38:21.24 Cameron So yeah, yeah. 38:24.70 Dave And that's where you can find that's where they found their truck. So obviously they're not here but 1 of them was a korean war veteran and like had a false metal leg in the skeleton has like a metal leg to like oh no, this is obviously the dudes and they were just like. 38:27.70 Cameron And. 38:36.99 Cameron Ah, okay, yeah. 38:43.34 Cameron So yeah. 38:43.76 Dave Buried in here like they didn't cause the landslide something else buried them in here so they did the um Chris and the dude are like trying to uncover like what's going on. 38:58.37 Cameron Button. 39:01.00 Dave And she she goes further into the cave and finds like an underground lake. It's but it's it's like in the movie but it's way bigger and there's like the boogins are they're just live in the water but there's like a lot of them. 39:06.32 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 39:13.92 Cameron So yeah. 39:19.59 Dave And it just like a big jelly mass. But then it like separates out and there's like hundred of them and there's like other weird like um cavern nocturnal you know, ah, there's like scorpions and spiders. But they're they're glowing because they're bioluminescent from living. 39:24.61 Cameron Oh okay, yeah, but. And. 39:38.48 Dave Without light. So just like weird things there that she doesn't want to touch because they like could be poisonous or they're just spooky um and she finds a ah backpack and the backpack um the blackpack ends up. 39:40.15 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. 39:57.47 Dave Belonging to Ken who was dragged down into the mine and must have had his back pulled his backpack too because someone later Mark like recognizes it I think I think it's in police custody or something I don't I don't remember the specifics but he finds out that oh Ken went missing. 39:59.88 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 40:09.89 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 40:16.44 Dave And because he's looking for his buddy and he's like oh he's in the mine I mean they don't find his but they just found the backpack. They didn't find his body so everyone's like digging around to see what's going on in the mine and the long and short of it is um. 40:16.61 Cameron Yes, yes. 40:29.58 Cameron So. 40:36.17 Dave And back in the mine collapse that was on purpose to um, stop people from getting the gold because they ah they found gold. But what happened was um to Otis. 40:46.47 Cameron So. 40:53.73 Dave Ah, Blanchard what through famous yeah Otis Blanchard so Blanchard um was doing his own mining operate like he was doing the mining personally like not not all of it but he was there too to oversee it or whatever. 41:02.51 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 41:10.77 Dave And um, there was a bit of a cave in on the lead mining side as they were digging and he got stuck in there for like 7 like nine days and ah the the rocks like um, crushed his legs. 41:21.42 Cameron Oh okay, yeah. 41:29.80 Dave But worse like the little baby Bugans came in and ate all of his body from like the groin down. So I mean I don't think we're eating him and they were just like melting him a little bit so it basically paralyzed him from like the waist down because it it atrophied all of his like muscles. 41:32.79 Cameron Oh okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. 41:48.92 Dave So he's been wheelchair bound um from men on to the last thirty years um but he found gold when they were when they were. That's what collapsed like they were digging and like the tunnel collapsed because they poked through. 41:51.97 Cameron And. 42:04.86 Cameron Ah, yeah, yeah. 42:08.13 Dave Um, the lead mine shaft or they they found a shaft but it it it poked into the um hattra hatche mine mining thing so they were like claim jumping. 42:15.38 Cameron Yeah. Yeah, okay, yeah, snuck their way through. 42:24.33 Dave He like dug into the wrong side of the mountain. Yeah, and I was like oh if Found'm gold and then he's like that must have been on my lead mining side and so it's mine. Um, and then he I think he partially caused the cave in to kill the people that. 42:32.54 Cameron Yeah, yeah, totally. 42:41.70 Dave Um, those 2 dudes that were splunking because they realized that the um the tunnels intersected into the lead side and so that would have undone like the last so many years of him like using gold like digging gold out and then he would have been. 42:41.95 Cameron M. Right? right? right. 42:54.55 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 43:00.64 Dave They would have just taken his gold because it was not his claim. Um, so yeah, it's it's it's ah, there's a lot of a lot of conspiracy but there there's an actual plot going on where yeah where he's for. He's keeping the town. 43:02.64 Cameron Yeah. 43:11.78 Cameron Yeah, yeah, stuff's happening. 43:19.84 Dave The ah the mine on lockdown because there's the dangerous boogin like he he's fully aware that there's monsters in there. But there's also gold so he wants the gold but he can't go in there and get it because of the boens. 43:23.50 Cameron Yeah, yeah, you know gold That's good. No yeah, yeah. 43:36.99 Dave So all he has is like so I think it's like settlement money or something he because he killed the other guys so he like took their um, that's what it was is 3 dudes that were doing all the prospecting like the illegal prospecting. 43:47.42 Cameron Yeah. 43:50.96 Dave And he he engineered it to kill the 2 guys this it's not the spunkas. It's just his 2 partners. He killed them and said it was a big cave in which which he's like obviously this was bad because I'd lost my legs so everyone was in danger and I made it out alive. Um. 43:58.16 Cameron So yeah, ah yeah, yeah. 44:10.65 Dave But that that shut up any questions about the claim so he could get the gold that he had and like spend it or you know invest it or whatever so he built his comp. He built his fortunes from that stolen gold and now there's a dude buying the Hatchet mine. 44:12.87 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 44:23.20 Cameron But fair enough. 44:28.51 Dave Or they had that hacket mine. Um, which would get someone the texan guy like gold and he doesn't want that so he's trying to like get the um inspector and the representative like. 44:34.30 Cameron Yes. 44:47.23 Cameron Yeah. 44:47.98 Dave Killed by the boogins. Um, he's like using the boogins to he's not directing them physically. But he's kind of making it so people are um, vulnerable to the boogins. 44:54.26 Cameron Martin. 45:01.97 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly no one's going to ask questions. 45:04.89 Dave Because that that if they die that's a cleaning up his like mess. So then then it's the you know the dead men tell no tales and then he can just keep his gold. Yeah or it it proves them if they die. Um. 45:22.71 Dave Ah, the Loomis won't dig further because the mine's too dangerous and and will and will have never seen any gold anyway, he's like he'll just write off the mine. He's like oh there was no gold. 45:27.00 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly? Yeah yeah, yeah, people dying don't have that. 45:39.11 Dave And it's it's just a dangerous collapsed mine is is the hope for that um Blanchard has and so all the kids die they allll get killed um the ah. 45:45.52 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 45:50.75 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 45:58.30 Dave Think the sheriff dies Brian and Chris die and Mark dies and the dog dies. The only people that die that better are like left live as Blanchard and his like manervant that's been tricking people. 45:58.16 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, Wow who's less this. 46:14.18 Cameron Um, Wow yeah. 46:17.75 Dave Yeah I was going like this is a eighty this is 9081 and they made it so the corporate like rich guy is he's the villain and he's. 46:20.40 Cameron Yeah, so. 46:34.38 Dave He's He's not directly killing anybody He's indirectly like allowing people to to dig where they shouldn't and get killed and and threaten the entire town because there's like hundreds of Bogans and and they can just get in the water system and wherever they can. 46:35.56 Cameron No yeah to the deaths. Yes. 46:48.64 Cameron Yeah, yeah, so. 46:53.82 Dave Go anywhere once they're freed from the wine and so he's like threatening the whole town and to maybe get gold like there's not a ah real payoff other than like he has no more enemies because everyone's. 47:06.41 Cameron Yeah navy. 47:12.69 Cameron Yeah. 47:12.99 Dave Been melted and and so it's it's you have like the capitalism wins like what? um Nate nature is powerful. 47:23.29 Cameron I Guess I guess. 47:31.64 Dave But greed is stronger like I don't I don't There's not like ah there's a lesson I Guess don't go poke it out a mine but um, like just because you're greedy and want money. 47:31.76 Cameron Boogans Inherit the earth. 47:40.55 Cameron Um, yeah. 47:48.79 Dave Doesn't mean you can buy your way out of it. But you can sure trick your way out of it like like if you're if you're greedy and tricky then you can win. Yeah, like that that was like the moral of the I guess because everyone else died. 47:52.99 Cameron Yeah, yeah, apparently. 48:04.55 Cameron Yeah I guess. 48:07.23 Dave And it's real real weird because it's like the last it's it's it's the same thing where it's like the last like 10 pages. Everyone just dying and I was like what wait like they're escaping the mind they're swimming to to to freedom. The little teenager kid gets killed first and just like what's happening. 48:11.59 Cameron Yeah. 48:24.00 Cameron Um. 48:26.35 Dave And Brian the dude that's like you think is the protagonist because you're you're given his point of view first pretty much and Chris and they they they? um they kind of fell in love. They had like a love scene and. 48:27.98 Cameron M. Yeah. 48:39.19 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah in. 48:44.90 Dave They've been building a like a rapport together and she's like the corporate lackey and he's in but she's interested in geology I mean she she major did it in college and she's just working for this guy because it gives her an excuse to go splunking. Um and it's like what. 48:54.50 Cameron Right? Yeah, yeah, they all die that's wild. 49:03.42 Dave They hell die because he and he's trying to save like the little kid that the kid and she I think is trying to go rescue him because they he got he fell he fell I think through the basement or something like it collapsed. 49:15.64 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 49:19.50 Dave And so she's going try to get him and she brings like the cop and the the sheriff is kind of a good guy. He's like he he's tired of being bought out or whatever he's like I don't He's like I'm one I don't want to be a um I don't know what the the word is he's He's like. 49:26.90 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 49:38.28 Dave He doesn't want to be a a stooge to like this rich dude. He just wants to like do the law so he he comes running up to like he kicks open the door and they see all the bugogins and then he gets like immediately killed like the ah um, a tentacle shoots out of the house and like. 49:38.80 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 49:57.22 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 49:57.78 Dave Naps his neck. You're like what and then she runs off with I think she's running with Mark or something Chris is and and a booins come around the back they run around the back of the house to go hide and there's like boogans there and just immediately die. 50:06.93 Cameron Yeah. 50:15.47 Cameron Okay, yeah, yeah, no you you can't win if it grabs you it's over. So. 50:17.63 Dave You can't you can't like fight them. Yeah and there was like so many of them and then yeah, um, ah Brian is in like the the mine trying to climb up the stairs or to the basement to get out. 50:34.77 Cameron Yeah. 50:36.74 Dave And he just gets pulled under water and his neck snapped or whatever he just gets killed immediately and then the the the book sits there and spends the time to go if Brian Hadn like struggled for 20 seconds longer he would have heard the sheriff's gunshots and knew that help was on the way. 50:39.19 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 50:55.89 Dave But then it it goes like everyone else died immediately and it's like what what? it's like if he had just you know held on a little longer. He would have known that everyone else was dead too like that's not a comforting thought I don't It's better that he just died I mean. 50:56.64 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 51:05.22 Cameron Yeah, yeah, he would no this book. This book is way more brutal than the film is mean yeah. 51:15.90 Dave It's it's like what it's going on. It's real mean and then it gets to the end then it's like it's just the ah broom Blanchard sitting in his little chair with his blanket on his legs and he's just like yes, they're all dead and he's like. 51:25.57 Cameron Mm. 51:31.28 Dave The town could be the next two because now there's like 300 boogins just pouring out of a mountain. Um, but I got my gold. He's like I guess I win. Yeah, the towns are burning down around me. Maybe. 51:34.77 Cameron Yeah, yeah I guess I win. 51:47.21 Dave Ors I think he's just like well just wolf on wolf calling the boys to clean this mess up me I guess you can just shoot the Boogans Oh no I think they burnt they they something happened in like little house is on fire. 51:49.41 Cameron Yeah I mean if you got all that gold I guess you can afford it. Yeah. 51:58.37 Cameron Yeah, okay. 52:02.29 Dave And so it's like it's trapping the boogins maybe back in the mind but the mind's riddled with light holes. At this point. It's like the fire could have killed them but they'll probably be back later but I'll be prepared all. 52:07.58 Cameron Right? right. 52:17.11 Dave Bring the boys with their guns and we'll shoot the Bogans before they can grab us with their tentacles. It's like I don't know what the moral of this. Why is this like this I don't need a happy ending I I was kind of happy that're like ok yeah, this the weird. 52:18.80 Cameron Um. 52:22.25 Cameron Ah, man. 52:28.68 Cameron So yeah, yeah, exactly. 52:35.59 Dave Rich dude just like gets off scot-free like this is ridiculous. It's probably what would happen like this feels very like 2020 it's like people just not getting their come up ands. 52:36.86 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 52:45.52 Cameron Absolutely. 52:52.37 Cameron So yeah, pretty much. 52:53.54 Dave But yeah I was way Warrior than I was like oh yeah and people get mounted and getting their necks snapped and and and getting folded into closets and stuff and and. 52:59.30 Cameron Yeah, no, the it. Yeah no like in in the film. It was just they they got slashed and a bunch of red paint spurted up I'm not not even going to call it blood. It doesn't look very good film. Yeah, ah, that's great I gonna have to read the book now I guess because that sounds like a much more wild ride than the film was. 53:23.77 Dave Yeah I mean you have to track it down I like that I had to ebay I used copy. However I think it came from overseas to you may be able to get it quicker than it took me to get it. It could have been. 53:32.75 Cameron Um, yeah, yeah, my beat might be an Australian copy or 2 floating around. 53:41.55 Dave But um, yeah I mean I I can't recommend the movie. It's very silly. Um the book is like nihilistic. It's what what? it's just like everyone's dead. 53:45.25 Cameron No, it is pretty silly. 53:55.63 Cameron Mm yeah. 53:59.52 Dave Um, and the bad guy wins and the booens are still out there. So yeah, it really feels like if you did aliens and then Burke like wins which I guess are. 54:02.36 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 54:12.63 Cameron And yeah, pretty much I mean yeah, it's the eternal company. Yeah I mean I will say there's nothing wrong with watching the movie because it's free on Youtube which is how I watched it. 54:15.21 Dave Arguably whaling uani kind of wins a lot of times. It's like that. Yeah. 54:29.62 Dave Um, yeah, um, it's on Amazon prime. Yeah I mean I rented it. Ah but I will said that the transfer is very crisp. It's very like they someone for the Blu Rayy or whatever they when they've got the masters for this. They cleaned it up. It looks real crisp. 54:31.71 Cameron Um, don't don't pay to watch the movie. Yeah, um. 54:48.38 Dave Um, unfortunately there's not a whole lot to look at but it does look nice. You see everyone's nice hair very very full of body. There's a lot of volume going on especially with his. 54:52.87 Cameron Yeah there lots of great hair volume voluminous. 55:04.25 Dave Ah, oh I know without that's what made me laugh so hard. Um in the beginning. Ah, um, when yeah, it's the um, the realtor so she goes into the house and yeah, so. 55:15.29 Cameron Yes, yeah. 55:21.87 Dave Not only did she like swerve to not hit a deer and then I think she has like a bumper sticker saying like I break for de or something. Yeah I reckon and then she comes out of her car and she's wearing a fur coat I mean I guess I know it's cold there but you could have had just like. 55:25.74 Cameron Um I break for animals. Yeah oh yeah, absolutely. 55:37.36 Cameron So yeah, yeah. 55:39.84 Dave Ah, synthetic. It's 80 s if if that's what you're about, um, but no so she goes into the house and pulls off her like just like a little ski cap or whatever a little hat and like eight feet of hair comes out. 55:55.30 Cameron Um, oh yeah, woman's got hair. 55:59.28 Dave And it's and it's it's not hat hair. It's like just got out of like the Vidallo sassoon at like it's just waterfall of like this thick hair and I was like that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. 56:03.98 Cameron M. 56:10.70 Cameron Yeah. 56:17.50 Cameron It's pretty crazy. Yeah. 56:18.75 Dave It's like super. It's like fair fauct hair. It's a lot of hair. Yeah yeah I mean it things it's It's a it's a nice looking movie and the scenes that are it's at night but they're not dark which is good. 56:26.36 Cameron Button. No no. 56:35.47 Dave Lately stuff has been like film nineteen s it's like they did not light that setup right. 56:39.70 Cameron No, no, yeah, it's an interesting film but it's not. It's not great. No it is the boogins. 56:51.41 Dave No, it is it is the boogins and so the boogins itself is was supposed to be the the booggieman but there was um, another movie that came out at the same time called Boogieman and. 57:00.72 Cameron Ah. 57:05.50 Cameron Okay, yeah, okay. 57:08.94 Dave There was some legal issues going on so they had they had to like change the name because they did their their movie came out afterwards so they had to be the Boogans and the general conceit for the film like the thing that's supposed to be scary is the the the. 57:12.30 Cameron Button. Yeah. 57:27.61 Dave The director so made everything. Um, he's like showcasing his own fears. So it's not specifically like the actual little turtle thing. It's the situations like um, going down into a dark basement. Um. 57:37.50 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 57:46.36 Dave Getting lost in this like all the the deaths and and the bits that like the the if it wasn't the boogin killing you like if you took that away and then just showcased like the fear that the characters have in that situation is the thing that he's trying to like convey like it doesn't matter. 57:52.38 Cameron Yes, so. 57:59.76 Cameron Yeah, right. 58:05.84 Dave It's like a weird turtle thing like that's beside the point It's more like the situation is is what he's trying to show that like I'm scared of this and like this is an identifiable fear. 58:09.77 Cameron So is what's actually scary. Yeah. Yeah. 58:20.10 Dave Because he's he's trying not to do like it doesn't do like jump scares. Maybe the one with the tiger in the basement because it did it jumps out of like a little cubby hole or wherever and it's like why was it in there. What. 58:29.25 Cameron Um. 58:31.52 Cameron Yeah. 58:40.10 Dave Dog is weird um that that's like a kind of jump scare but it wasn't um, it wasn't a big Mu because it was so it didn't feel like more recent ones are where like a catwa out and it goes it makes a noise. It didn't really do that. 58:41.66 Cameron Um. 58:53.63 Cameron Yeah, yeah, so. 58:59.87 Dave Is more like the you see the character get scared but it doesn't it doesn't transmit to the audience as as ah like a big sting you know trying to scare you with like the sound. It's more like oh you should feel anxiety for the characters because they're they're in a dangerous. 59:07.61 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah. 59:18.30 Cameron Yeah, exactly could be spooky. Definitely dangerous Exactly never safe. 59:18.68 Dave Like situation like it could be a spooky. Yeah yeah, well, there's a boogins there. So there's and there's there is a real and present danger um of of getting mauled by Jelly turtle. 59:34.85 Cameron So. 59:38.18 Dave Just the one the boogin the boogin is there the boogin a bugin the absolute bugin. Yeah. 59:40.28 Cameron Ah, just the one deep in. Absolutely yeah. 59:52.77 Cameron Ah, that yeah this this certainly is a thing. 59:54.90 Dave Ah, it is a thing I Yeah if you can drag down like I wish there was a digital copy of the book because I would say yeah I would recommend everyone check out the book because it's it's interesting. It's it's. 01:00:02.12 Cameron That interesting. Yeah. 01:00:11.23 Dave More approachable than the movie because there's like a plot going on and you don't really care as much about the characters are just they're the same um but they have a little bit more depth to them and it's just it builds up a lot of tension and then. 01:00:13.66 Cameron Yeah, as actually intrigue. Yeah. 01:00:25.12 Cameron And. 01:00:29.42 Dave Payoff is like yes everyone in fact, did die like it's not they're scared for a reason and oh they didn't make it. It's like okay well you created like an enemy that's a monster that's like you can't. 01:00:31.53 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 01:00:47.23 Dave Physically like fight it you can't just pick up and a pickaxe and like oh attack the boin. Um, no, it will it will snap the thing you were swinging I think it does that um, and there's so many of them you can like shoot it with a gun but you're not going to get the 300 of them. They're just going to flood you. 01:00:47.33 Cameron No absolutely not swing away. Yeah, nice. 01:01:02.33 Cameron No yeah. 01:01:07.27 Dave Yeah, and there's yeah, there's some real tense moments where they're um, they're in the um, they're going through the caves in Pat past the um, collapsed area like they cleared it out and they're going through there and that's when they find like the two bodies. 01:01:26.74 Dave Or they go past that part and they find the um, the corridor that goes to the lead mine. So they they discover that there was like ah intersecting um minds which is why they had to die? Um, but they they're. 01:01:32.10 Cameron Yeah, yeah. 01:01:37.49 Cameron Yeah, yeah, but. 01:01:46.30 Dave Run into the Boogans and the Boogans are like flowing out of these cracks in the walls and then they go big one flows out and they have to try to get past it. But it's like the size of a large dog in the tunnel and you can't touch it. It's like it'll mount to you. 01:01:53.22 Cameron And. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no yeah, yeah. 01:02:05.20 Dave And so mean there's a lot of like that where it's like there's very tense. It's not that it's not really playing round because you know there's a very real threat because people keep being in guiltd. So like everyone's our game and in the end. Yes, everyone everyone died except for the bad guy. So. 01:02:18.30 Cameron Absolutely yeah. 01:02:24.28 Cameron Button. 01:02:24.37 Dave Yeah I I mean if you can read it or get a hold of it. Yeah, go ahead because it's it's ah it's so it's not. It's a breezy. It's like I don't even know if it's 200 pages it was pretty short. Um, it's about as brief as the movie like as far as like when you're reading it and the the pacing is about the same. 01:02:33.44 Cameron Yeah. 01:02:42.83 Dave There's just more boogins like the whole time. Yeah. 01:02:43.10 Cameron So yeah, yeah, ah rather than one boogain that is being thrown into the background to imply extra boogining. 01:02:52.16 Dave Ah, quickly do a pan pan left pan right? and then just like it just do it and it's just it's just it keep sliding the the boogin across the floor like to the next camera crew. The. 01:02:55.84 Cameron I. Yeah. 01:03:08.84 Cameron Um, man football boogin and it's across the line touchdown. 01:03:09.37 Dave Football Football bogan. 01:03:14.13 Dave Um, yeah, oh man. Yeah, that was the boogins. It's It's a trip. It's It's a yeah, so the movie. 01:03:17.89 Cameron Well, that's that certainly was the boogins. It's something the book sounds interesting I'm going to look into that and see if I can get a copy. 01:03:32.57 Dave I Um, reading the book. It had the cadence of um, the stuff like the movie the stuff it felt kind of like that. 01:03:35.79 Cameron E. 01:03:41.24 Cameron Yeah, okay. 01:03:48.58 Dave Because that does the same thing or it's like here's the corporation or the evil bad thing and it doesn't like lose really. But I mean that one was specifically like capitalism's terrible and it's it's eating us all from the inside. 01:03:57.99 Cameron Yeah, terrible. Yes, ah yep. 01:04:04.84 Dave Um, and just when you thought you won it came back. So it's kind of like that which is it's a weird. That's a cautionary tale. This is not this is like don't mess with rich old guys I don't know. 01:04:09.66 Cameron Exactly. 01:04:15.84 Cameron No, absolutely not but mind. Yeah. 01:04:24.89 Dave I Don't know they'll kill you. Um, they'll arrange for your demise Creatively Yeah, no of no he didn't kill anybody with his own hands. He wouldn't be bothered by that be bothered with that. 01:04:30.18 Cameron Yes, they won't do it themselves Obviously the have boins for that. Oh none not terrible. This is ah man. 01:04:43.23 Dave Why should he? Yeah yep I think we'll call it there that is the booins. They can be a turtle or a weird terrifying Jelly slime. Um. 01:04:47.95 Cameron Well should we wrap it there. 01:04:56.48 Cameron Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh you should be? Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, exactly it's absolutely a single bugin. 01:04:59.12 Dave I'm more scared of the jelly slime thing than the turtle to be honest because I know there's only one of the turtle like no but you you can you can pluralize it all you like but there's just the one That's right. 01:05:15.79 Cameron Yeah, all right?
