00:00:00:00 - 00:00:08:06 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry 95% of teenagers have a smartphone. 95%. So you could spend the entire youth night fighting phones, or you could use them. 00:00:08:10 - 00:00:19:29 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry I've been doing youth ministry for 16 years, and the QR code is the simplest thing I've used to redeem phones in youth ministry context. I'm going to give you nine ways in which I use them every single 00:00:20:00 - 00:00:20:24 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry week from 00:00:20:27 - 00:00:21:06 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry ups, 00:00:21:09 - 00:00:23:01 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry sermon notes, games, even guests. 00:00:23:01 - 00:00:24:25 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Follow up. And number five is one that my 00:00:24:26 - 00:00:46:04 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry volunteers ask for all the time. Welcome, everybody, to the Hybrid Ministry Show. Welcome, everybody to the Hybrid Ministry Show. And in this episode we are talking about nine ways to use QR codes. And the first way is we use it to reinforce our social media. There's multiple kind of different avenues in which we use them to reinforce our social media. 00:00:46:05 - 00:01:02:26 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry So like number one, by the way, link down below if you want to check any of these products out. But we have like these napkin holders. In our youth ministry and in our space, like in, in our cafe. So as kids use napkins, we have a little graphic that goes inside the napkin holder that says we're social. 00:01:02:26 - 00:01:24:01 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And they just, you know, they can scan them. They can use them. And what it links to the QR code links out to our Linktree so they can follow us on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, any of those places. We've also printed out like stickers that reinforce or put them on like drawstring bags as giveaways, and just throw the QR code on there and as they scan it, it links them to our socials. 00:01:24:01 - 00:01:59:17 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry It helps them be able to engage with us and follow us. We've also used them in like acrylic bathroom signs. If you're not utilizing bathroom signs, you're missing out on an amazing like announcement moment. Like, I can't I don't know how many students are actually, like, going to the bathroom and signing up for events, but having a sign where it's like, perhaps the only thing that they can look at in that moment, is a great way to just continually drip your announcements and at certain times, like the exact moment of which I'm recording this, we use bathroom signs, to promote our social media. 00:01:59:17 - 00:02:15:21 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so we put events, but we also put a QR codes to our social media in those bathroom signs. So if you're interested in either the napkin holder or the science link down below, I have an Amazon link. You can go grab those and try them out in your own ministry. Number two is one. That's amazing. 00:02:15:23 - 00:02:35:14 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Listen, here's the reality. Like, you might not think that you need to do anything with social media. You might not even consider it that important. But here's the good news. Your students, they do. And they live in that world. Like, we just had some students create a bar stool of our student ministry account. It's like a satire account. 00:02:35:14 - 00:02:53:08 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry It's like a it's like a spam account, but it gets incredible traction. And they have incredibly creative ideas. And so my seasonal social media pack is not done by Gen Z or Gen Alpha, right? But it is done with them in mind. And I will help coach you how to start creating a structure and a framework of content. 00:02:53:09 - 00:03:15:17 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Maybe you're not the content creator. That's fine. Hand it over to a student and watch what they can do when you let their creativity be unleashed. And so I will keep you consistent. I'll keep you when. When things get difficult. When your schedule gets busy, my pack will just keep things, moving for you. Okay? And then you hand it over to a student and you see what they can do. 00:03:15:20 - 00:03:38:01 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Go check it out. It's less than the cost of a cup of coffee per month. Actually, if you get the Patreon Hybrid Hero membership to your $4 per month, you get access to all of my social media packs and we are releasing the one for fall. So go check out the fall seasonal social media pack. Even though in this video looks very much like I'm right in the middle of summer. 00:03:38:03 - 00:03:42:13 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Trust me, it's just Texas. Okay, go check it out and back to the rest of the video. 00:03:42:15 - 00:04:01:12 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry So number two is like anytime we have a sign up. So similar bathroom signs or any sort of like slide on the screen will throw a QR code on that. And we download off of a service called QR code generator. And we pay a little bit for it, but you can get free ones off of like Canva or those types of things. 00:04:01:12 - 00:04:20:27 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry But we just put like a little like, blurb beneath the actual QR code. And a lot of times I'll say, text this to your mom or text this to your dad. Especially if it's something like summer camp that we know costs money and the students don't actually have the money to go ahead and, like, pay for that at like a $399 rate or whatever that might be. 00:04:21:00 - 00:04:44:02 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so we'll just put those on all sorts of slides. Send this to your mom. It's an easy way for a student to get their phone out, grab the link, copy it, and text it over to their parents. The third thing that we do is we use it for inventory tracking. And so we have like, closets and storage spaces and so as, like a volunteer or a student, that we've authorized to go grab, like a supply out of one of our closets. 00:04:44:04 - 00:05:06:02 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry There's a QR code sitting right there that says, scan this. You'll scan it and they'll say, what did you take? What closet did you take it from? It fills out a form, and then it goes to one of our team members who gets that and then updates that in a spreadsheet. So for things like, books that we give away for like new believers or baptism, like, she doesn't have to go to that closet and count how many more we have. 00:05:06:03 - 00:05:21:02 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry She can keep track of it. As people scan the QR code, assuming that they do. And then if she updates that on her spreadsheet and then when it gets down to a certain level, like, okay, it's time to reorder more books so that we're never out of, like, the books that we need. Number four, I've used this before. 00:05:21:04 - 00:05:41:16 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry I put it around just like random spots in our space. I printed out. It's a scan for a surprise, and if you scan this QR code, you'll see this video pop up. And then it says, take the screenshot this and take this. Just a simple, real or YouTube short that I created. Take this to our cafe for a free, drink or a gift. 00:05:41:16 - 00:06:12:02 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so, we've put the, we've, we've put that on like we've gone to like FCA's or stuff like that. We've just put that places and just kind of like the goal is to like incite, like a small bit of curiosity. And then through that like event or whatever, where we were out in like the community, if people did actually scan that and they like, heard and knew about us, or a friend invited one of us to speak at like, their FCA, that might promote or prompt like their friend to come with, you know, in the future to one of our like, youth nights or whatever. 00:06:12:04 - 00:06:35:23 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Number five. This is one that my volunteers ask for all the time. It's the dot ICS link. So I see S is like your calendar link, through iCal. It also can link into like a Google calendar. So we put this on all of our calendars actually, we print them out, put a QR code, and so leaders and parents alike can scan a unique QR code. 00:06:35:23 - 00:07:01:22 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry I have a QR code that's for leaders, and I have a QR code that is for, like student ministry, public facing events, the scan that and then it imports into the calendar. So like as we update and adjust events, parents and leaders and students, they all can have that calendar, from the QR code, from the link directly imported into their cell phone, which is just an amazing way, so that it's not always on us to communicate every single little thing. 00:07:01:25 - 00:07:24:26 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Number five. Additionally, we have a Welcome box video. So student gets a welcome box and I have a free like artwork for Not Free. It's $5, I'm sorry over on my Patreon welcome box as well as my calendar design. Both of those two things linked down below. You can go. You can go see what we do. But essentially a student opens a welcome box and on the top of the lid there's a QR code that says welcome video. 00:07:24:26 - 00:08:00:17 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry They scan it and they get a custom welcome video from me and other members of my team welcoming them to our student ministry, and explain to them what what it's like to to be here. You know, what they what they can expect, all those types of things. Number seven, our tech team, we needed to try and level our tech team up to be more active on planning center, accepting and declining their, serving requests, and so on their way into the tech booth, there's a little poster that one of our team members made and then and and he made it funny, but then a QR code that says scan here to download the Planning 00:08:00:17 - 00:08:23:09 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Center app. And he's been trying to get everyone to download the app so that they can, like, approve and decline serving requests. And so it's just a way to, like, get it in their hands. Another one I've talked about this before on a previous podcast. I'll link it right up. Here is Ask Phil AI. It's an AI that was created by, a church member of ours, and it's biblically based and all those types of things, but we've created and handed out a QR code. 00:08:23:09 - 00:08:44:04 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry There's also linked down below, if you want to just grab that free QR code to once you vet it for yourself, distribute it to volunteers or leaders. You can print it on a sticker. I've seen students, take that sticker that we've given to them and put it on their Bible, and they can use it and then scan on their Bible to go to that biblically based AI to ask any question that they might have. 00:08:44:06 - 00:09:08:15 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And then the last thing that we use is we sit around tables in our space. And so like a four by six about this size, acrylic once again little placard. And we put a QR code in there for students to scan along and follow along with digital notes, which we actually build through the you version live events section of the YouVersion app, which is actually part two of redeeming cell phones in youth ministry. 00:09:08:17 - 00:09:27:12 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And that video detailing and explaining how we create digital notes and how we use it and utilize it in our own context, is linked right here on screen if you're watching on YouTube. So tap into that video, go check that one out as we move on into part two of Redeeming Cell Phones in your youth ministry space.
