What we kind of stumbled into in our context was we found a game, and then we positioned an entire theme of a night around it. 00:00:33:26 - 00:00:56:12 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry We took Loot and Lunacy Times bestselling game from last year, and we made a whole mid eval themed night, complete with jousting and bows and arrows. And we thought about turkey legs, but they were incredibly hard to find in very expensive. And as I think through these different kind of like events and how I might position myself for a fall kickoff, I'm going to be thinking through these kind of five elements, these five frameworks. 00:02:09:22 - 00:02:28:19 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so as we work through these resources, I'll share kind of like one different one in each of those. But in the event guide that I talked about linked down below, I will flesh that out for every single event. So I'm going to be asking questions like, should this event have a dress up component to it? Yes or no? 00:02:28:22 - 00:02:47:12 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Should this event have food? Is so what kind of food to kind of line up or go along with the theming? Number three what might be like an over the top or sort of like a wow or like a memorable element that students and people might remember for years to come? What's a programing pro tip that I might include in this particular event? 00:02:47:12 - 00:03:04:23 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And then finally, what might be a prize that I might give away to the winner of the game or to, you know, the winner of like, someone getting like and winning like a door prize or whatever the case might be. So without any further ado, let's dive in. The first game I want to talk about is the Mystery Mansion Challenge. 00:03:04:23 - 00:03:24:23 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so this game has kind of got like murder mystery vibes. And that might be kind of like the theme or the the way that I sort of lean into that. It's like a dinner party, a clue, you know, a live action clue kind of game. But this game in particular, what it does is it shows four different images from four different rooms inside of a mansion. 00:03:24:24 - 00:03:49:27 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Students then have a timer on the screen to go study each of those rooms, and I like to position those in four different corners. You can put it on four different like TV rolling cards. You can print out the four pictures and have them hanging in each corner. I like to physically get the moving so that they can't just stay in one spot and and look at the screen and study all the images on the screen, though that is also an option that I do include in this in this resource as well. 00:03:49:29 - 00:04:10:00 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry But get them moving. So I have to stand for, say, 30s at the dining room and then move and stand 30s in the living room. And, and then they'll be asked a series of questions, and then after that they'll have to move to the corresponding room, like go to a room with a light bulb visible. And so they'll go to one of the four rooms and hope that their memory remembered it. 00:04:10:00 - 00:04:34:29 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And if they're wrong there eliminated, and if they're still in, they obviously remain still in until the end. And so in this particular one, as we think about like, what about dressing up like I might do like a dress like the roaring 20s pretending you're at like an elaborate like gala or dinner party, think like Great Gatsby vibes and you can almost like then in the middle of it, like, and then we're having a murder mystery. 00:04:34:29 - 00:04:56:13 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so like I said, there's going to be a free graphic as well as a link to this game resource down below in my free Fall Event guide. The second game concept that I kind of have in mind is my emoji phraseology series of games. I have an emoji phraseology game for just about every single possible, like event, season or time frame. 00:04:56:13 - 00:05:16:27 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so for this one, I would probably go with the back to school a Moji phraseology, and I think I might just make it like an emoji night overall. And like as we think through the concept of like food, I don't know, man. I might like get those like sugar cookies, those like decorated sugar cookies, which we order them once a year at our church for like Christmas. 00:05:16:27 - 00:05:42:05 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Or we ordered them in student ministry for like when our fifth graders come across into our into our student ministry. And they are unbelievable, dude. Like I literally like, can't stop eating those sugar cookies. I think this last year I ate over the course of a week, like 20 of those cookies. But what if you got those decked out like emojis and they're just all around your space and students could kind of, you know, partake and participate in those emoji cookies? 00:05:42:05 - 00:06:03:21 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And then I would play the emoji guest game. And it's a pretty simple and straightforward game, like, here's a phrase for back to school themed things and only emojis and have students guess. And you know, you could also maybe do a little bit like men on the street style social media videos where someone's walking around and asking those same questions, and then in post you're just putting those emojis on the screen. 00:06:03:21 - 00:06:31:05 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Those people are thinking and kind of trying to guess and think that one through. But that might be how I might attack a game or a theme night. That's emoji based. Hey, real fast, let me guess that you have neglected social media this week on your social media feed. Not to fret, we've all done it. However, one of the things I found out that is most important for social media is not creativity, not artistic value, not esthetic, not vibe. 00:06:31:06 - 00:06:50:16 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry It's consistency. And I have a social media pack that is in year two, so we've done it for one full year cycle and now we're coming back around. Gimmea number three is I have a game called rank, and it's similar to like the tier rankings one through five, one being best, five being worst. 00:07:30:09 - 00:07:53:01 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry There's a couple different ways to do it. It's like flash all of the five rankings on screen, and then you can just rank them or you can go like blind ranking style. Again, a great social media adaptation option if you want to kind of go that route. But one of my favorite is the Wrangham Fast Food Edition. And so I might make my theme kind of centered around like a fast food night. 00:07:53:01 - 00:08:26:22 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And you could, you know, have students, like, bring their favorite fast food brown bag and save you a lot of money. So hey, everyone, bring your favorite fast food meal and we'll eat them together. And you do a bunch of different fast food things. And you use this game at some point throughout the night. There's a social media adaptation that you can use either before to kind of promote it or afterwards, sort of to recap your night as well as what I would maybe like, think about, or one thing I've seen before is kind of like an over the top, like a wow like memorable element is what if you DoorDash a meal? 00:08:26:22 - 00:08:43:24 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And what if you let everyone in the room select like an overrun or closest amount of time from placing the call till now wins and you start a clock, you got a timer going or something like that. And so soon as the guy comes in like there's a winner and the place is going crazy, and then like, what if? 00:08:43:25 - 00:09:07:17 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry What if as that was happening, what if you're, you know, as you're gathering like times or whatever, you were also gathering like tip money or you even like, like as people like gave money like the more money they gave every dollar they got to add another time guess, you know, to win some sort of elaborate prize. But then at the end, the whole goal is you bring the delivery driver up and you like you. 00:09:07:18 - 00:09:25:02 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Wow them with like an overwhelming tip. One that like your student ministry like supplied. And if you don't think your students would be generous, like maybe you kind of like, you know, have that set up ahead of time, but but then like you pray for the driver or something like that, and it's kind of like a cool moment or opportunity. 00:09:25:02 - 00:09:44:19 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry That's an idea. If you kind of want like a, a fast food themed game and you did this like rank style game somewhere kind of throughout the theme or throughout the layout of your night. The fourth idea is again, I have on dim Called Back to School bingo. And you know, you could go bingo themed. You could go dressed like an old person. 00:09:44:20 - 00:10:06:09 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry My my programing tip for this one might be like, call out your bingo letters in an old person voice, or have a walker or, you know, set up a bingo or old person funeral, not funeral nursing home funeral. That's kind of morbid nursing home backdrop for photo ops and stuff like that. But the the thing of like, back to school bingo. 00:10:06:09 - 00:10:22:25 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And of course, you could throw in like extreme bingo or something along those lines. But the idea of back to school bingo is that essentially it's like a recap of your summer. And so there's like three different categories, and you print out a card for everybody, and they have to get one in each of the three kind of like categories. 00:10:22:25 - 00:10:39:29 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry So like, you know, like church over the summer, family over the summer, miscellaneous over the summer. And you're saying things like, did you go on a mission trip this summer? Did you break an arm over the summer, like different things like that? And as they get those correcting mark off either with chips or with a marker or a bingo blotter on their thing. 00:10:40:00 - 00:11:00:11 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And it's a way to to recap the summer that was as well as look ahead to the school year that is on the horizon in your fall kickoff. And then the fifth and final resource idea is a game I created called Hide and Go Pizza. And this one, like there might not be a theme associated with it. I might just do like a straight up back to school bash. 00:11:00:14 - 00:11:17:23 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Have a party if you wanted to FEMA or like tell people what to wear, you could go with like a school spirit. Kind of nice like where your school colors. And that might be a way to kind of like get some hype going. But but this game essentially is you get people in groups or crews. We sit around tables in our context. 00:11:17:23 - 00:11:37:11 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry So it makes it a little easier because based on whatever table they're sitting at, creates kind of a natural break for each of them. But then they go hide little tokens with their table number on it or their crew number or whatever. However you try to break it up, and then they come back into the room, and then you send everybody out with the timer on the screen to go and collect as many of the tokens as they can find. 00:11:37:11 - 00:11:54:19 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And so, like if you were table one, you had your token or, you know, let's say a token per person or ten tokens per table or whatever, and then table five finds token number one, they'll bring it back to table five. And then you'll see which table has the most tokens at the end. And then the winning table, the winning group, the winning crew, they win pizza. 00:11:54:19 - 00:12:13:28 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry And that's that's the prize option for this one. Right. Like whoever whichever group, whichever crew which ever table wins, they get pizza, you know, and everyone else is stuck with hot dogs or, you know, whatever the other options are for the night. Another optional game that I'll throw in here into the guide down below is Bring Me if you like, the running, the chaos, all that type of stuff. 00:12:13:29 - 00:12:32:17 Nick Clason | Hybrid Ministry Bring me just a fun like easy, low, low hanging fruit style game. I'll throw one of my bring me. I think I've got bring me volume two in there. But like I said, my complete fall event guide. You can literally take any game that you see or find on do I am.
