Episode 147 — Mark 5:35–43 — Jairus’ Daughter Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s fteamsabulous to be here with you today.
Today is May 27. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down Jesus is here. He’s sitting in your favorite spot, waiting for you to join Him.
You may have a million things on your mind, but for these few moments, set them aside. Relax. Calm your body. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it.
As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, it is not too late.” As you exhale, pray: “Nothing is beyond what You can do.”
Repeat this three times, then rest in His presence. Read While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.” But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John (the brother of James). When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed. Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone what had happened, and then he told them to give her something to eat.  (Mark 5:35–43, NLT) Notice What stands out to you in this passage? Is there a word or phrase that stands out to you? Hold it in your heart for a moment. Reread Hear this story again — and pay close attention to what Jesus says to Jairus the moment the worst news arrives.   Meditate The interruption cost Jairus everything — or so it seemed. While Jesus stopped for the woman in the crowd, word arrived from his house: Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore? In that moment, hope collapsed. The window had closed. It was too late. And Jesus turned to him and said: Don't be afraid. Just have faith. Five words into the most devastating moment of a father's life. Not an explanation. Not a promise of what He was about to do. Just - don't be afraid. Keep trusting. And then Jesus walked into a house full of mourners and said something that made them laugh at Him: The child is not dead - she's only asleep. He put the mockers outside, took the parents and three disciples into the room, took the little girl's hand, and said: Little girl, get up. And she did. Jesus is never too late. That is the quiet thunder of this story. By the time He arrived, by every human measure, the situation was beyond hope. The mourners were already there. The laughing at Jesus wasn't malicious — it was the laughter of people who knew death when they saw it. But Jesus walked past all of it, took her hand, and called her back. Whatever in your life has moved from urgent prayer into what feels like mourning - whatever you have begun to grieve as lost — bring it here. Jesus specializes in arriving after everyone else has given up. Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Is there something I have stopped praying for because it seems too late — that Jesus might be asking me to keep trusting Him about? Respond Jesus, You are never too late. Give me the faith of Jairus — the faith to keep trusting when the worst news comes, when the window seems to have closed, when everyone around me has stopped believing. You are not finished. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Don't Stop Trusting Today's habit is an act of renewed faith: identify one prayer - one situation, one person, one hope - that you have quietly stopped bringing to God because it seemed too late, and pray it again today. You don't have to manufacture confidence. Jairus didn't have it either — he was terrified. Just come honestly: "Lord, I had almost given up on this. But You told Jairus not to be afraid, just to have faith. I choose faith today — not because circumstances look hopeful, but because You are never too late." Pray it. Write it down. And return to it tomorrow. I have one ask of you before you go, could you please share this podcast with one person today? One person at a time will grow this podcast to help more people walk with Jesus. That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
