Episode 32 — John 3:1–8 — Born Again by the Spirit Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it is exciting to be here with you today. Today is February 1.
Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down We carry so much around every day — financial worries, relational stress, anxiety about the future, and the pressure to succeed.
Now is the time to set those things down for a few minutes and enjoy some time with Jesus. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. As you inhale, whisper in your heart: “Lord Jesus Christ.”
As you exhale, pray: “I love You.” Do this three times, then sit in silence for a few moments. Read There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.  So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked. Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. (John 3:1–13, NLT) Notice What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment. Reread Now hear the passage again slowly, being mindful of what God is wanting you to hear from Him. Meditate The phrase that jumps off the page to me is: “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” Before Jesus came, the only way to be part of God’s kingdom was by physical birth into Israel.
But Jesus reveals a new way — through spiritual birth by the Holy Spirit. This new birth is mysterious, like the wind. You can’t see how it happens, but you can see its effects.
When we surrender to God, the Holy Spirit transforms our hearts, making us alive to God’s kingdom. Take a few moments to reflect on this truth:
Once we are born anew, we begin to truly see what God is doing — and join Him in it. Respond Lord, I’m sorry for trying to live in my own strength.
Help me rely fully on Your Spirit so I can see and be part of Your Kingdom. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Prayer in the Moment
Life is full of transitions — moving between tasks, conversations, and moments.
Use those small spaces to whisper a quick prayer. Example:
After finishing a task, say: “God, thank You for helping me complete that.” The goal is to have a continuous conversation with God all day.
