Episode 165 — John 6:52–59 — Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood Hey everybody, welcome to the podcast, I’m Nick and it’s awesome to be here with you today.
Today is June 14. Each day, we follow a simple rhythm: Slow Down, Read, Notice, Reread, Meditate, Respond, and Exercise.
Let’s begin. Slow Down We carry so much around every day — financial worries, relational stress, anxiety about the future, and the pressure to succeed.
Now is the time to set those things down for a few minutes and enjoy some time with Jesus. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, then slowly release it. As you inhale, whisper: “Jesus, I take You in.” As you exhale, pray: “Let Your life become my life.” Do this three times, then rest in His presence. Read  Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.” He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.  (John 6:52–59, NLT) Notice What stands out to you in this passage?
Is there a word or phrase that catches your attention?
Hold it in your heart for a moment. Reread Hear these words again — and notice how Jesus responds to the argument of the crowd. He doesn’t soften what He has said. He intensifies it. Meditate Jesus is calling His followers into a union with Him that is as intimate and as total as the body’s relationship with food. Food doesn’t remain separate from you. You take it in, it nourishes you, it becomes part of you. It sustains your life from the inside. That is what Jesus is describing. Not a relationship with Him maintained at a respectful distance. Not an admiration of His teachings from afar. An ingesting. A taking in. A union so complete that His life and your life become intertwined in the most intimate way possible. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in them. Abiding. Remaining. The mutual indwelling of Jesus and His follower. This is the life He is offering — and it is far more than most of us have settled for. Take a few moments to reflect on this question:
Is my relationship with Jesus one of genuine union — His life truly nourishing mine from within — or have I been keeping Him at a more comfortable, less demanding distance? Respond Jesus, live in me. Nourish me from the inside. Let Your life become the source of my life in every way. Exercise The rush of life will meet you again when you leave this sacred place—but you can carry this moment into your day by forming new habits. Habit: Abiding Today’s habit is a practice of conscious union: for one hour today — whatever hour fits your schedule — practice the presence of Jesus. Keep Him in your awareness. Talk to Him as you work. Acknowledge Him in each transition. Return to Him every time your mind wanders. Brother Lawrence called this practicing the presence of God — and he did it in a kitchen, washing pots, for decades. It is not complicated. It is simply the discipline of staying aware that Jesus is with you, in you, and for you — in every ordinary moment of the day. At the end of the hour, reflect: What was it like to stay consciously aware of Jesus? What did I notice? What pulled me away? What drew me back? Before you begin, pray: “Jesus, I want to remain in You today — not just in the quiet of the morning, but in the middle of everything. Teach me to abide.” I have one ask of you before you go, would you please consider supporting this podcast? Click the support the podcast link and give a simple gift. That’s your two minutes with Jesus for today.
Now, take what you’ve heard…share it and live it.
Until next time, keep slowing down, keep listening, and keep walking with Jesus.
