We're going to 0:15 introduce the importance of energy and 0:17 recovery and we're also going to set the 0:19 foundation for simple scope coaching The real issue: It’s not motivation 0:22 conversations. 0:31 Hey there, this is Tiff and welcome to 0:33 the Profitable Sports Coach, the podcast 0:36 for coaches who want simple, actionable 0:38 tools to help their clients feel better, 0:41 perform better, and stay consistent 0:44 without adding more hours to their 0:47 schedule. I'm your host, Tiffany Micer. 0:50 I have spent over 30 years in coaching, 0:52 sport, leadership, communication, and 0:54 performance. The one thing that I've 0:55 learned is this. When energy and 0:57 recovery are off, everything becomes 1:01 harder for the client and for you, the 1:03 coach. So today, what we're doing, we're Why energy & recovery matter more than macros 1:05 going to start right at the heart of it. 1:07 We're going to be looking at why your 1:08 clients are tired and what we can do 1:10 about it. 1:12 So here, what I want you to be focusing 1:14 on is why energy and recovery matter so 1:17 much more than macros. You've got to 1:19 understand that energy is the foundation 1:21 for consistency. So when your client, 1:24 even yourself, you know this, when 1:27 you're experiencing low energy, it 1:29 affects your mood, it affects your 1:30 recovery, affect affects your training 1:33 quality, it affects your decision 1:35 making, it affects the macros. 1:39 And the macros, they're just the 1:41 finetuning because remember, energy is 1:43 the base. Everything else sits on top of 1:45 that. 1:47 Now, here's three of the biggest reasons 1:50 why clients feel flat. Why clients are 1:53 feeling tired, flat or unmotivated. 1:56 Number one is they're definitely under 1:58 fueling. Number two, dehydration. 2:02 And number three, blood sugar 2:04 instability. 2:06 So let's have a look at under fueling. 2:08 That's number one. So what does under How low energy affects client behaviour 2:10 fueling do? Under fueling, it can lead 2:12 to energy crashes. Under fueling can 2:15 cause cravings. Under fueling can cause 2:19 slow recovery. And under fueling creates 2:22 irritability. So clients often think 2:24 that they're eating healthy, but it's 2:26 just that they're not eating enough of 2:28 the right fuel. Under fueling equals 2:31 inconsistent behavior. So remember that 2:34 under fueling is equal to inconsistent 2:36 behavior. 2:39 Now let's have a look at number two, 2:40 dehydration. 2:42 So dehydration, what this does, it 2:45 affects energy, focus, digestion, and 2:47 performance. 2:49 Dehydration can also affect most clients 2:51 because they're dehydrated without 2:53 realizing it. People think that coffee 2:56 is equivalent to hydration, but we know 2:58 that that's not the case. So, coffee is 3:01 not equivalent to hydration. And even The 3 biggest reasons clients feel flat 3:03 mild dehydration can really impact 3:06 training quality. 3:09 Now, look at number three. Blood sugar 3:12 instability explained. Blood sugar 3:14 instability. What this does is it causes 3:17 afternoon slumps. Blood blood sugar Reason 1: Underfueling 3:21 instability causes trigger cravings. 3:24 Blood sugar instability reduces 3:27 motivation. 3:29 Blood sugar instability impacts mood and 3:31 decision making. So remember this stable 3:34 blood sugar equals stable behavior. 3:38 You know this too. We if our blood sugar 3:41 is stable then our behavior is much more 3:43 stable. We make better decisions in 3:45 that. Now, what's the one thing simple 3:48 thing that you could do as a coach 3:50 today? And it's really not about having 3:53 advice. This is really about starting 3:55 the awareness. And it's just asking 3:57 simple questions about like how is your 4:00 energy going? How is your recovery 4:03 going? What is your meal consistency 4:06 like? Are you constantly eating meals 4:10 consistently, steadily over a certain 4:13 period of time? What's going on for you Signs your clients are underfuelled 4:16 there? And remember, this is the kind of 4:18 stuff that we want to start with asking 4:20 our clients is just creating awareness. 4:23 We don't need to advise them in any way. 4:25 We just want to know where they're at. 4:27 Now, here's some simple awareness 4:29 questions that you can ask your clients 4:32 this week. If you're saying that they're 4:34 really struggling with energy or they're 4:36 really struggling with recovery or 4:39 they're inconsistent with their meals, 4:40 these are the types of questions that 4:42 you can ask them. 4:44 How's your energy been this week? 4:48 Another one, how's your recovery this 4:51 week? And here's another one, how 4:54 consistent have you been with your 4:55 meals? So, these are nice, simple, easy, 4:59 actionable steps that you can take with 5:01 your client. You only need to take one. 5:03 It's just discovering what is actually 5:06 going on for them and what is their 5:08 energy like at this point in time. So, Reason 2: Dehydration 5:11 if they're really struggling with 5:12 energy, 5:14 that's the perfect question that you can 5:16 ask them. How is your energy this week? 5:18 If they're really struggling with 5:19 recovery, well, ask them what's going 5:21 on. Are you giving yourself recovery 5:23 time? And the big key to this as we know 5:28 is if there's blood sugar instability 5:30 that means their meals 5:33 their meal eating or the eating of meals 5:37 is inconsistent. So you just ask them 5:40 how consistent have you been with meals? 5:42 Some people will go without. Some people 5:44 will starve themselves and they thinking 5:46 that training on an empty stomach is the 5:48 answer. But we know as professionals, as 5:51 sports coaches, as fitness experts, we 5:54 know that that is not the case. We know 5:56 that we can't, especially with women, we 5:59 cannot train on an empty stomach. We 6:03 cannot train on in a fasted state. It How dehydration impacts performance 6:07 just doesn't respond for the women's 6:09 body. Men, however, are very different 6:12 according to all the research. So just 6:15 all we want to do in this session today 6:17 is just create awareness. Now what I've 6:21 done for you here is I have a five 6:23 minute client fueling assessment. It's a 6:26 very very simple assessment for you. So 6:29 what I have put together is I've put 6:31 together a energy and recovery checkin. 6:34 So it's a series of eight questions and 6:36 it's all you need to do is ask your 6:38 client these eight simple questions. You 6:40 can send it to them um via PDF or you 6:44 can send, you know, the questions to Reason 3: Blood sugar instability 6:46 them. You just want to get them to 6:47 answer them. I've also put together for 6:49 you a client fueling assessment scoring 6:52 sheet so you know and understand what 6:54 zone they are actually in, whether 6:56 they're in the green zone, the yellow 6:58 zone, or the red zone. And also a script 7:02 for sending your energy and recovery 7:04 check-in. So, so you know what to say to 7:06 them in a very simple way. All we're 7:09 wanting to do is just get some feedback, 7:12 just have the client feeling better 7:15 about you coming across that you care 7:18 more for them and which you do. You want 7:20 them to get results because if they get 7:22 results, that's good for you and it's 7:23 good for your business as well. So the 7:25 best thing that you can do right now for 7:27 you to help build your business without 7:29 adding extra hours is just sending 7:34 through a 5minute client fueling 7:36 assessment to your client and get some 7:39 feedback and see what's going on with Why blood sugar affects consistency 7:40 them. I've got some simple tips that'll 7:42 be coming up to show you how they can 7:44 then take steps forward in dealing with 7:47 that and we're going to be working on 7:49 that over the course of these podcast 7:52 episodes. So the fiveinut client feeling 7:56 assessment is simple, it's scope safe, 7:58 it's effective, and it helps clients 8:00 feel better fast.
