So had things go for you for Park, I pulled in another wind, started bogey, bogey on the green regulation first two holes, which is always a huge win for me. 00:00:41:27 - 00:00:58:15 Unknown Three part of them both like a true amateur. So I ended up bogey, bogey those two holes. But then I settled out after that and a half the holes on the day finished poorly. I was six over for the last four holes. Not too happy because I've been chomping at the bit to try to break 80 on tour. 00:00:58:21 - 00:01:15:02 Unknown It didn't happen this time, but there's always next time, as they say. You know, every great golfer says, and and I'm not a great golfer, but I'm still going to say it. But one of the things that you said that was really funny was that you had this same ball until when I had the same ball until 18. 00:01:15:05 - 00:01:42:13 Unknown I'll talk to you folks back home about self-fulfilling prophecies. I got to the 18th hole. I've always struggled with that one, slicing the ball to the right or just straight pushing it. I did a little bit of both on on my drive. There's a million miles left because there's an adjacent fairway. You could hit it as far left as you want and still not have to take a drop or any kind of serious trouble over there, and I chose to do what I always do on that course. 00:01:42:17 - 00:02:06:19 Unknown After telling myself that I always golf that hole poorly, I in turn golf that hole poorly. So if there's lesson learned from that, it's walk up with a positive mindset to every golf shot. I tried that tonight with Jake I. There was a tree in my way on hole 11 I'm sorry. Hole 12. And I it was a big, huge tall tree. 00:02:06:19 - 00:02:30:23 Unknown And I told him, I said I'm going to think positive on this one. And I hit it right dead nuts over the top of the tree. And I had no problems plunking it on the green about pin high, and I ended up with a par on the whole, so I was super happy with that. But as far as fear part goes, I did what I expected to do as far as that final hole, and and I got to get that out of my mindset. 00:02:30:29 - 00:02:53:07 Unknown We all got to get better about that, I suppose top to bottom, whether you're a Tiger flight or or champ fighter, you know, sometimes your mind the six inches, as I say, between your ears, is the toughest distance in golf. Yeah. And it was really interesting to see him back off that shot on 12 tonight and realign his thought process before he hit it. 00:02:53:07 - 00:03:14:13 Unknown And not only did he clear the tree, but he cleared it convincingly and put it on the green. I did house pretty happy with it. I hit a 52 degree wedge up and over the tree. I had 100 and I don't know, 113 yards left or something like that, and plunked it up and over the tree. And I wasn't, you know, convinced of myself when I first walked up. 00:03:14:13 - 00:03:32:08 Unknown And then I said, okay, you got to have a positive mindset. And it does make all the difference in the world. At times. You have negative thoughts, negative things happen. You have positive thoughts, positive things happen. And so going back to Fair Park, you actually got a different trophy this time, not something you can put your change into. 00:03:32:10 - 00:03:53:06 Unknown I did it was a nice very nice trophy wrapped in velvet and you know, it was a glass trophy and it had a case for it and the whole nine yards. I've never been a trophy hunter for that. For that matter. I enjoyed winning another one, don't get me wrong. He instead went to a more, you know, typical, I guess you would call it trophy. And I was happy to come home with the win for the day. How'd you do? So it was really interesting for me, so I felt like I was shooting way better, way better than West Point or or other places I had been recently, and I never really looked at where my score was. 00:04:18:23 - 00:04:42:11 Unknown I just was like, I'm going to keep playing my game, keep my head in the game, and I came in second. But I'm not super upset about coming in second because the guy who beat me beat me only by two strokes, but he was actually in the flight above me. We interviewed all three winners, including you, but we we interviewed Neil and it was really neat to here Neil's perspective how he played. And I'm not upset losing by two to a guy that's a better golfer than me. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, just like it is today, and we were super happy with the temperatures and I walked away with that birdie. I walked away with a bunch of money for that skin and I was super happy about that. I definitely like I said to Brett, I left some shots on the course. I could probably go through the 18 holes and I could probably pick out for at least that. So shooting 90 at for our park was super awesome for me. So I had a great day. I walked away with a pocket full of money and that's a good day for me. Yeah, it's something to be said. 00:06:05:05 - 00:06:26:14 Unknown Jake's a 20 plus handicap golfer. I fear. Park is super sloppy. Greens left. Right, up, down. All all the above. You have to put your approach shot or your chip. If you miss the green in regulation, you have to put it in a really strategic spot to have an opportunity to two. But the greens are always in shape. 00:06:26:14 - 00:06:50:04 Unknown They're they're just absolutely flawless just about and but also super fast. They keep them tight there. So the putts are they roll really smooth but really fast. It was great to see Jake come out with a score like that, because that's one of those courses that can destroy if you're chipping poorly. And there's no way he could have shot a 90 if he was, if his short game wasn't on par. 00:06:50:04 - 00:07:19:15 Unknown So it was good to see it helped me. I know on the day, just having a decent short game, I'd have to you guys all the time. My bones are made in my short game. I'm not the longest driver, you know, on tour by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not the most accurate approach player, but I'm a well above average, probably with my short game, and it helped me immensely on a course like that where it puts a premium on leaving, you know, your wedge below the pin. 00:07:19:16 - 00:07:37:20 Unknown And I'll be honest with you, that's where I think I left some shots on the green. Is making that mistake or not really a mistake? I took a shot that I thought was going to be below the green, hit it a little too hard, got an above the or sorry below the pin, got it above the pin and it really made for some tough putts. 00:07:37:20 - 00:07:56:11 Unknown But you know what? That's what forever parks all about. Especially that front night. The other thing it's awesome out for a park is you kind of do this tiered back and forth with the holes on the front nine. And I think it's hole three that you're looking out over the city. Yes, the hole three. You got this beautiful fairway. 00:07:56:11 - 00:08:22:17 Unknown You walking down the fairway right and down the fairway. And you look out and you see the whole city of Troy. So it's an awesome way to see Troy, which, by the way, you wouldn't expect this to be in the middle of a city. It's impressive where this golf course is. And we talked about this on the last episode when we had Dawn on talking about the US amateur, that one of his favorite courses is this for fear of part course, because it's a municipal course. 00:08:22:17 - 00:08:37:27 Unknown But then he also talked about Schenectady Municipals, another one which we are going to keep talking about until we had the opportunity to play that course, because we're going to keep tagging them, we're going to keep telling Dom we want to play, and eventually we're going to play that course. I don't know what the fees are at Fair Park. 00:08:38:00 - 00:08:57:05 Unknown I'm assuming this course. I'm assuming they're very reasonable. I'm going to guess it's somewhere around, you know, at at most I'm going to guess on a weekend it's probably 60 to $65 range, and you are getting more than what your money is paying for there. They have a temporary the the city of Troy decided they're going to tear down. 00:08:57:08 - 00:09:17:11 Unknown They have a hockey arena there right next to hockey rink. They're right next door. They have a they had an old clubhouse and a restaurant bar area. They're tearing it all down. And from what I've heard through the grapevine, $3.2 million that has already been approved by the city of Troy to rebuild it all. They've shut down said facilities. 00:09:17:14 - 00:09:47:25 Unknown They've got a temporary clubhouse slash restaurant, and it's essentially a big, huge party tent. And they have a mobile food truck that pulls up to the back of it. Food is fantastic. The selection of food is good, the beer selection is great. They have a little storage shed type facility right now for their for their pro shop. It's all going to come together and within a year or two from now, and that's going to be a top notch facility at a minimal price. 00:09:47:28 - 00:10:11:28 Unknown All right. So something else we want to talk about is the fact that we we I hate to say this, but we heard that Scottie Scheffler and Nelly both missed the cut on last weekend's tournament. Can you believe that the number one woman and the number one man the same day, the same weekend, missed the cut? I want to tell you all at home something very important. 00:10:11:29 - 00:10:41:07 Unknown Golf is hard. It's hard to be consistent. It's hard to stay at the top level as those guys do it. It's hard to stay at the bottom level, like someone like myself, where you're just striving for consistency. That's the hardest part of golf. It's a muscle memory game, whether it's bowling or darts or anything else that requires muscle memory to train your body to do the same thing with all those little fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers, it's extremely difficult to do. 00:10:41:07 - 00:11:05:06 Unknown So, guys, don't beat yourself up on a day where you're 20 shots above your handicap or 20 shots below your handicap. You're going to smile, I suppose. But yeah, you know, Bryson DeChambeau, you know, PGA tour golfers said it's so it's so ridiculously easy for an amateur golfer to have a 30 shot swing. So when people say, oh, there's no way you could be, you know, a 12 handicap. 00:11:05:06 - 00:11:31:05 Unknown And then the next day golf like you're a 30 handicap. No, it's absolutely possible and likely taboo that you're going to do that because it is so hard to train yourself. These guys on the PGA tour still have difficulty maintaining consistency from one week to the next, with every club in their bag, despite the fact that they hit hundreds of times more shots than we do as amateurs. 00:11:31:07 - 00:11:55:01 Unknown So it's a crazy game. Don't get down on yourself. Don't beat yourself up about it. Somebody that I know likes to beat themselves up quite a bit, and I hate to see it because he's a good golfer. He's, he's he can be consistent on days. But you know, like the rest of us, he has days where it's just, you know, if the game feels awkward to you I would like to see him, you know, not beat himself up so much. 00:11:55:01 - 00:12:22:06 Unknown But we'll get there with him eventually. Yeah. Yeah. It'll happen. So one of the things I said to Brett about Scotty missing the cut is, is there a kind of psi of relief with it where he's been four years of not missing a cut, that now he's missed a cut or he's like, oh, now that pressure's off. And then he goes into the open this weekend, which just started today because we're recording this on the Thursday, the first day of the open. 00:12:22:06 - 00:12:49:17 Unknown He goes into that with a fresh mindset, thinking about, I think, defending his win, if I remember correctly at the open, I can't remember he won last year or not, but the fact that he now longer no longer has to think about that cut thing and it no longer is over his head. Nelly, on the other hand, I don't know how long she had gone and how long it had been since she missed a cut, but it was really interesting to have this same weekend. 00:12:49:17 - 00:13:05:21 Unknown Both of them miss a cut. So you're right. Like, we have to remember, this game is not easy. We play it because it's fun. We play it because we're a little nuts. I always joke that you got to be a little bipolar to play golf, because you have those good days. And then the next day you go out and you shoot 20 over and you're like, no, I can't. So I definitely struggle with that myself. And it's really interesting to see PGA players have that same struggle. I saw a thing and I hate this. Bring this up. The Shambo has not done really well. 00:13:25:01 - 00:13:47:09 Unknown He's been having a lot of problems making cuts. And one of the guys on the Golf Channel said, hey, maybe he's going for a different grand Slam where he gets cut by four different places in the same year. Awful joke, but kind of understand why he's saying it. But as of this recording, this Shambo is doing really good today, and so I'm really hoping that he pulls it out. 00:13:47:10 - 00:14:04:03 Unknown Yeah, he's on the front page or two of the leaderboard. It'll be interesting to see when it's all one of those shakes out, because tomorrow's the big day. You know, that's the cut line day. I think the cream will rise to the top. I've always said I thought Bryson DeChambeau was a little bit of a robotic golfer. That's my personal take on it. 00:14:04:03 - 00:14:21:18 Unknown I don't think robotic golfers work very well. He's very much into the analytics and the science and the mathematics of hitting a good golf shot, but I think anybody who's golfed is significant. Amount of golf in their life will tell you that their best shots come at the range. And why do they come at the range? Because you feel free. 00:14:21:21 - 00:14:38:22 Unknown You don't feel the tension and the the I guess the pulling of one side or the other of your body where where you feel like you have to hit it here, you have to hit it there. You just go out and hit and you flush a lot more shots on the range. Most people do anyway than they ever would on a golf course. 00:14:38:22 - 00:14:58:12 Unknown So I think that's why the robotic style that he golfs with is, you know, it's going to be hit or miss. He's his highs could be really high. His lows are going to be really low. And at the moment for the last bunch of majors, his lows have been, you know, included missing the cut. Really nice Greens were in gorgeous shape. The whole course is in beautiful condition. Can't say enough good things about it. The staff, they're incredible.
